2024-07-22 |
[GEO.TV] The number of polio![]() virus cases in Pakistain has mounted to nine with the fresh one reported in Balochistan’s Zhob district. The new poliovirus case was confirmed on Saturday in a one and a half years old child hailing from Zhob’s Union Council 2 in Hassanzai (urban) area. Coordinator to Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Malik Mukhtar Ahmad said nine children had been affected of poliovirus in the country this year. Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Ayesha Raza Farooq advised people to get their children administered anti-polio doses. She said the most effective way to prevent the disease was to get multiple polio immunisation doses. Meanwhile, ...back at the dirigible, Jack stuck the cigar in his mouth, stepped onto the gantry, and asked Got a light, Mac? Von Schtinken stopped short, lowering the dagger and trying to control his features. If you light that thing, Herr Armschtröng,he pointed out, his voice tense, we all die!... Coordinator for the National Emergency Operations Center for Polio Eradication Muhammad Anwar Ul Haq said the government had carried out six anti-poliovirus drives this year. "Various strategies are being adopted to protect children from the disease," he said. Pakistain is among a couple of remaining polio-endemic countries in the world. Polio is a highly infectious disease caused by poliovirus, mainly affecting children under the age of five years, who are malnourished and have weak immunity because of being under-vaccinated or not vaccinated for polio and other childhood diseases. The illness invades the nervous system and causes paralysis or even death. While there is no cure for polio, vaccination is the most effective way to protect children from this crippling disease. |

2018-10-12 |
[DAWN] President Arif Alvi has removed Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui as a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), a notification issued by the law ministry said on Thursday. The president took the decision after the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) recommended his removal, the statement added. A letter written by the SJC had emerged earlier in the day, in which the council, comprising five Supreme Court judges, had said it found Justice Siddiqui guilty of misconduct over a speech he delivered in July earlier this year before the Rawalpindi District Bar Association. "The council is unanimously of the opinion that in the matter of making his speech before the District Bar Association, Rawalpindi on [July 21] Mr. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui [...] had displayed conduct unbecoming of a judge of a high court and was, thus, guilty of misconduct and he is, therefore, liable to be removed from his office under Article 209(6) of the Constitution," the communication read. The SJC is a constitutional forum that examines the conduct of superior court judges and then recommends their removal from the top post. While addressing an audience at the Rawalpindi bar, Justice Siddiqui had claimed that personnel of the Inter-Services Intelligence ...the Pak military intelligenceagency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir... (ISI) were manipulating judicial proceedings. He had further claimed that the spy agency had approached IHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi and said: "'We do not want to let Nawaz Sharif ![]() and his daughter come out [of the prison] until elections, do not include Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on the bench [hearing Sharifs' appeals]'." Justice Siddiqui had offered no evidence to support the claims he made. The IHC judge was facing a reference over his controversial speech, the third reference filed against him. |

2016-01-09 |
![]() ...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead... 's self-exiled leader Dr Imran Farooq recorded their confessional statements before the Islamabad deputy commissioner on Thursday, sources said. The FIA had enjugged Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'! three suspects -- Khalid Shamim, Mohsin Ali Syed and Moazzam Ali -- for their alleged role in Dr Farooq's murder. While Shamim and Mohsin Ali confessed to their involvement, Moazzam Ali, said to be the prime suspect, was unwilling to come up with a confession, sources in the prosecution told Dawn. In his statement recorded under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code, Mohsin said that Moazzam had handled the travel documents to live in the United Kingdom. According to private news channel Geo News, Mohsin in his statement gave graphic details of the murder. He said that at a university hostel in London he and his accomplice Kashif Khan Kamran, whose whereabouts are not known and may have died, prepared a plot to kill Dr Farooq. He said they monitored the movement of Dr Farooq in London to know about his routine. On the day of the murder, he said, he grabbed Dr Farooq while Kashif stabbed him and then bludgeoned him with a brick to ensure his death. Shamim said that he had consented to join the murder plot because he was a diehard MQM activist, sources said. Shamim claimed that senior MQM leader Muhammad Anwar gave the order to assassinate Dr Farooq. The JIT constituted to investigate the murder had suggested that MQM chief the increasingly enormousAltaf Hussain ..The head of MQM in Pakistain, who has lived in London and hasn't laid eyes on Pakistain since Caesar made corporal. Judging from the size of him,he may be a Hutt... regarded Dr Farooq as a threat and wanted him eliminated. The JIT report also noted that all three suspects were members of the All Pakistain Muttahida Students Organisation, the MQM's student wing. The suspects were sent to Adiyala jail on 14-day judicial remand by an Islamabad anti-terrorism court. The gruesome murder took place on Sept 16, 2010, near Dr Farooq's London home. The London police had named Mohsin Ali Syed and Mohammad Kashif Khan Kamran as desperados in connection with the murder as they were in the UK when Dr Farooq was murdered. They arrested the three men during the last five years but released them later without filing any charges. However, there's more than one way to stuff a chicken... it was widely reported that both Mohsin and Kamran had been taken into custody by Pak intelligence agents the moment they landed at Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... airport in 2010. The third suspect, Khalid Shamim, was allegedly taken into custody in January 2011 and a petition regarding his 'illegal detention and going missing' was filed by his wife in the Sindh High Court. |
