Parties affirm solidarity with Kashmiris
2013-02-07
[Dawn] Political and religious parties held rallies and other events to mark Kashmir Day, with a significant show of strength displayed by the Jamaat-ud-Dawa,
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
here on Tuesday.
"Here" refers to Karachi.
The JuD rally was also addressed by leaders from Indian-held Kashmir over the phone, who vowed to continue their struggle and lauded the moral support being extended by the people of Pakistan to the Kashmir cause.
They tried to call leaders from Pak-occupied Kashmir but the line was busy.
Hundreds of JuD workers took out a procession from the Safari Park and marched to the Karachi Press Club in the second half of the day. At the KPC, those who addressed the rally included party leaders and such veterans from Indian-held Kashmir as Syed Ali Geelani of the Tehreek-i-Hurriyat, Shabbir Shah of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and Asiya Andrabi of Dukhtaran-i-Millat.

"It's not time to open trade with India but to get Kashmir freed from it," a JuD statement quoted Mr Geelani as having told the rally. "The spirit in the Pakistanis for the Kashmir cause is phenomenal and the people here expect that Pakistan will continue its moral, diplomatic and political efforts for Kashmir freedom."

The rally was also addressed by JuD Karachi chief Eng Naveed Qamar and leaders from other political parties, including the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the People's Youth Organisation. Another rally was organised by the Jamaat-i-Islami, which was taken out from the Jail Chowrangi to the Mazar-i-Quaid.

A large number of JI workers, including women and children, attended the rally addressed by JI Sindh chief Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, acting JI Karachi chief Barjees Ahmed and JI Karachi general secretary Naseem Siddiqui.

"We do not accept the United Nations which cannot stop the barbarism in Kashmir, Syria, Burma and other parts of the Muslim world," said Dr Siddiqui while speaking at the rally. "Over 100,000 Kashmiri youngsters have been killed and thousands of
women raped by Indian troops over a decade, but the brutality has failed to inspire the UN to move."

The two rallies also caused gridlock on M.A. Jinnah Road that stretched to Saddar and other adjoining areas. Officials said traffic flow normalised after traffic police presence was increased.

Showing solidarity with the Kashmiri people, Millat-i-Islamia Council Pakistan also organised a symposium to discuss challenges faced by the people struggling for freedom and a possible solution to the conflict between the two countries.

Chairman of the Anjuman Faizan-i-Raza Shah Turab-ul-Haq Qadri and Allama Shariq Adnan Rizvi also spoke.

Provincial MMA Leader Killed
2005-05-31
In Karachi, unknown assailants killed a provincial leader from the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Islamic opposition alliance, police said. Aslam Mujahid, deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami in Karachi, was kidnapped early in the day and his bullet-riddled body was later found in an abandoned car in the east of the city. Mairaj-ul-Huda, head of Jamaat-e-Islami's Karachi wing, said Mujahid was kidnapped after the funeral of a party member. "Two hours later we received a phone call from the area Nazim that his body has been in a car."

Huda said the party suspected the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, a rival regional party that is a member of the governing national coalition, was behind the killing. "The city has been put on high alert," Rauf Siddiqui, home minister for the southern province of Sindh, of which Karachi is the capital, told Reuters. "We have ordered all police stations to remain on high alert and have asked the police and rangers to increase patrolling. The blast, and the killing of Aslam Mujahid earlier in the day show that all these activities are planned," he said, adding that a reward of 2.5 million rupees ($42,000) had been offered for information about Mujahid's assassins. More than 100 people have been killed in tit-for-tat attacks by majority Sunni and Shi'ite militants in the past year. Most of the attacks have been blamed on Sunni militant groups with links to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network which have been angered by Pakistan's support for Washington's war on terrorism.

'MMA won't allow Perv to address joint session'
2005-04-21
The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has warned that parliament will not be allowed to function nor will President Musharraf be allowed to address a joint session of parliament if the government fails to release detained MNAs Qazi Hameedullah and Javed Hashmi. MMA leaders issued this warning while speaking at a general workers meeting late on Tuesday night in Karachi. Prominent among those who spoke were Hafiz Hussain Ahmad, Liaquat Baloch, Allama Hassan Turabi, Dr Mairaj ul Huda Siddiqui, Hafiz Mohamamd Taqi, Khan Mohammad Rabbani, Qari Sher Afzal, and Qazi Ahmad Noorani.

Liquat Baloch, MNA and leader of the MMA, said that the alliance would continue its efforts to eliminate what he called the "armed forces' intervention in the political affairs of the country". He termed the PPP a major deterrent factor stopping major political forces from gathering on one platform to coordinate their efforts against the government. The PPP had sabotaged all decisions taken by the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) under the leadership of its late president, Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, and was following "a similar line of action even today", he alleged. He remarked that Asif Ali Zardari, PPP leader, had recently said that the party was holding negotiations with the establishment and the army, which, Mr Baloch said, would have negative repercussions not only for the party but also for the national politics.

Another Mullah Harps his tune
2004-09-11
US manipulated 9/11 tragedy as pretext for global invasions
Senator Professor Ghafoor Ahmed, central leader of the MMA, termed the September 11 incident a pre-planned drama staged by the United States itself to manipulate an excuse for invading Muslim countries. He accused Israel and its Intelligence agency, the Mossad, of being involved in the twin towers incident in New York. He was addressing a protest demonstration held at the Empress Market on Saturday. The countrywide protest call was given by the MMA to mark the third anniversary of the twin towers incident as a protest day. The demonstration was held in connection with the continued intervention, aggression and invasion by the US in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Palestine and what they referred to as the unnecessary interference in Pakistan's internal affairs.

The demonstrators carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans like, "War against terrorism, or blood for oil?" and "Twin Towers blast a drama", said that it was the US which was a global terrorist, not Islam. However, the venue chosen for the protest itself is a place which is terribly crowded with all kinds of traffic going helter-skelter and the already narrow roads and lanes constricted further by purveyors of all kinds of eatables and other items who have encroached upon the thoroughfares. This deprived the occasion of its exclusivity.

Condemning attack on Wana, he said government of Pakistan had crossed the limits of genocide at the behest of US for which the nation will never ever forgive the rulers, he said Innocent women and children were attacked. These tribal people, he said, had sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country. He said they are being punished for their loyalty. The army was targeting these innocent people who have defended the boundaries of Pakistan. The patriotic people of tribal areas had always sacrificed their lives for the sake and integrity of Pakistan, he said.

Taking a swipe at General Musharaf, he said that the general was constantly announcing that he would not doff his uniform till 2007 and would continue to hold both the offices. However, he said, time would come when he would have to part with both the uniform and the office of the president when he no longer is in power after 2010.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Moulana Abdul Karim Abid, Hafiz Muhammed Taqi, Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, Muhammed Aslam Ghori, Shabbir Abu Talib, Shaikh Rafiq Ahmed. Member, National Assembly, Muhammad Hussain Mehnti, said the September 11 incident had sent a message to the entire Muslim Ummah to stand against Zionist and Imperialist forces

Pakistanis side by side with Iraqi, Palestinian and Kashmiri people
2003-02-06
Central Leader of Muttahida Mujlis-e-Amal and Naib [deputy] Amir Jamat-e-Islami, Professor Ghafoor Ahmed has reaffirmed that every Pakistani is shoulder to shoulder with the innocent people of Iraq, Palestine and Kashmir.
That means they're opposed to us, in case you missed it...
He urged US to take on impartial conduct by preventing its visible and secret support to Israel and India, otherwise, he warned, that its name would cease to exist on the soil like Pharaoh. Professor Ghaffor said that innocent Muslims were being subjected to atrocities around the world specially in Kashmir and Palestine. India and Israel are the major hubs of terrorism in the world, while US is playing the roll of a guardian, he added.
Got it. Quit supporting regimes with which we have something in common, like human freedom and dignity. Better to side with Pakistan or Paleostine, because... ummm... he said so.
MMA leader said that US must have to quit its ways so as to play due role in maintaining peace in the world. He said, days are not far way when Kashmir would secure independence and become component of Pakistan.
"Just a few more beheadings, just a few more temples wiped out, and we'll have it!"
On the occasion, Dr. Mairaj-ul-Huda termed the possible US attack on Iraq as against of Muslims instead of terrorism.
When we've conquered Iraq, there won't be any Muslims left there, will there?
Maulana Abdul Karim Abid of Jamiat Ulema Islam cautioned that US was hatching conspiracies against Pakistan.
Hell, I've got six or seven of them going myself!

Pak referendum maneuvering...
2002-04-11
  • The Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) is close to strike a deal with the military government over its outright support to the referendum which would elect Gen Pervez Musharraf as President for the next five years. The MQM leadership has already announced its partial support to the referendum by allowing its voters to vote if they want to in favour of Gen Musharraf's election.
Perv needs some sort of organized support, so this is probably the best he can buy...
  • Pakistan Muslim League leaders on Wednesday regretted the language used by President Gen Pervez Musharraf in his speech on Tuesday. Party's central vice-president Tehmina Daultana said it was unbecoming an army chief to solicit votes while in uniform. "It is also a violation of service rules," she said. She said Gen Musharraf was aware that he was so unpopular among the masses that he would not be elected through a constitutional process and had adopted an "unconstitutional" and "illegal" way to perpetuate himself in power.
A switch to a presidential system vice parliamentary changes the dynamic of getting one's hand into the till. The Nawaz and Bhutto factions'll be against it.
  • The Pakistan People's Party has refuted President Gen Pervez Musharraf's assertions against its chairperson Benazir Bhutto at a public meeting held here on Tuesday to launch his referendum campaign. "This is the last time we are going to answer the allegations levelled by the regime to tarnish Ms Bhutto's image. We understand that the (military) regime is trying to distract us through the mudslinging campaign against politicians and divert public attention away from the real problems," PPP acting secretary-general Raza Rabbani told a news conference here on Wednesday.
Same problem as PML-N. Perv should have tied for an alliance with them - they seem (at least to us outsiders) to be his natural, middle of the road allies.
  • Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Sindh, has termed the holding of referendum in support of the presidency of Gen Pervez Musharraf as unconstitutional and illegal, and said that no government functionary can assume public office. A delegation of MMA, comprising Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid, Maulana Arshad Zahid, Maulana Yusuf Qasuri and Qari Muhammad Usman, that called on Sindh Governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, informed him about their stand and pointed him out that if Gen Musharraf wants to become the President of Pakistan, he should resign from the office of the Chief of Army Staff and wait for two years before seeking election to public office.
We knew Qazi's guys would be against it. Perv is Religious Enemy Numbah 1, even after he springs the Biggies to try and make up.
  • Anti-Islamic forces particularly the US are employing every tactics to enslave the Muslims around the world. This was stated by World Islamic Mission chairman and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) chief Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani while speaking to a gathering at Pasrur late Tuesday night. He charged that the Musharraf government was playing in the hands of the US and the slogan of liberal Muslims was raised at its beck and call to crush the religious parties. "The foreign interference in our internal affairs has increased alarmingly as several airports have been handed over to them at their discretion", he said.
Not a surprise there. JUP is in the tank with the MML, so he's just another Qazi mouthpiece.
