Renowned KP clerics issue fatwa denouncing terrorism, only head of Islamic country may declare jihad |
2023-01-10 |
[Dawn] Amid an uptick in murderous Moslem attacks in the country, renowned holy mans in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa issued a fatwa (religious decree) denouncing terrorism, it emerged on Monday. The development comes as terrorism is again rearing its head in the country, especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... Pakistain has seen a rise in terrorist attacks across the country, believed to have been planned and directed by the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban ![]() Pakistain (TTP) leaders based in Afghanistan. The TTP, which has ideological linkages with the Afghan Taliban, executed more than 100 attacks last year, most of which happened after August when the group’s peace talks with the Pakistain government began to falter. The ceasefire was formally ended last year on Nov 28 by the TTP. The 14-page fatwa, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, has been signed by 16 religious scholars from difference schools of thought, including Maulana Qari Ehsanul Haq, Mufti Subhanallah Jan, Dr Maulana Attaur Rehman, Maulana Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Dr Abdul Nasir, Mufti Mukhtarullah Haqqani, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, Maulana Salmanul Haq Haqqani, Maulana Rehmatullah Qadri, Maulana Umar bin Abdul Aziz, Allama Abid Hussain Shakri, Mufti Mairajul Din Sarkani, Mufti Raza Mohammad Haqqani, Mufti Khalid Usmani, Mufti Sheikh Aijaz and Maulana Abdul Kareem. KP Chief Khateeb Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, one of the signatories, said the Learned Elders of Islam had issued the fatwa to answer some questions related to jihad. Speaking to Dawn.com, he said: "Recently some so-called Learned Elders of Islam tried to create chaos using Islam. After that, it became our responsibility to issue the fatwa." In the decree, the scholars condemned "spreading chaos and riots" in an Islamic state". They also termed those "declaring war and picking up weapons against" authorities to be "perpetrators deserving of punishment". The fatwa also said that "not every person has the right to declare jihad" and that it could only be declared by the head of an Islamic state. It further said that a soldier or police official killed by the enemy during battle was a martyr, adding that there was "no doubt about his martyrdom". Head of an Islamic country alone can declare jihad: edict [Dawn] Only the head of an Islamic country is entitled to declare jihad, and anyone involved in revolt against the state is required to be "crushed" in light of the principles of Islam. Amid a surge in terrorist attacks, the significant announcement came in form of an edict which was issued on Monday with signatures of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 16 religious scholars on it. The holy mans said that the head of the Islamic country will announce jihad since this is one of the basic components of the Islamic country. "According to the teaching[s] of Islam, all the citizens of the Islamic country have to respect the law, and refusing to follow the Constitution [of the Islamic country] is prohibited according to the Shari’ah," read the decree, a copy of which is available with Dawn. Protection of an Islamic country is the responsibility of all its citizens. "Since Pakistain is an Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... , there is no doubt that all, including the military and police deployed to defend the country, when killed in the battle against enemies, are deaders," the decree read. The decree noted that a so-called religious scholar in Islamabad as well as some enemies and some anti-state elements have been issuing provocative and controversial statements. "Obeying [the directions issued by the] head of the State is compulsory under the Islamic principles and those refusing to follow, is [rising in] revolt," the decree read, adding "it is compulsory for all the citizens to follow the head of the state and the Constitution". Anyone who took up arms against the state or the [Pak] armed forces would be considered an bad boy, it said, adding that such an act had been forbidden and anyone involved in revolt is required to be crushed in light of the principles of Islam. According to the scholars, there is no doubt that the Western democracy is against the teachings of Islam. However, man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... they added, ’if someone declares the parliament’s decision submissive to the Holy Koran, he should not be called as misled’. The decree read that shaving the beard was forbidden in Islam but "it does not mean if somebody shaves the beard is a non-Moslem", adding that once there was a time when wearing a tie and pants was considered dress of the Westerners but it had now become common among Moslems. "No religious scholar has termed wearing a tie and pants against Islam and this is the reason why religious scholars have justified wearing pants at offices," the 14-page edict read. The decree has been signed by Sheikhul Hadis Maulana Qari Ehsanul Haq of Darul Uloom Sarhad, Mufti Subhanullah Jan from Madressah Darwesh Imdadul Uloom, Dr Maulana Ataur Rehman from Tafheemul Koran Mardan, Maulana Hussain Ahmad from Wifaqul Madaris Arabia, Maulana Dr Abdul Nasir from Tanzeemul Madaris Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Mufti Mukhtarullah Haqqani and Maulana Salmanul Haq Haqqani from Jamia Daraul Uloom Akora Khattak, Chief Khateeb KP Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, provincial nazim ...small time big shot, the chief elected official of a local government in Pakistan, such as a district, tehsil, union council, or village council... of Tanzeemul Madaris Maulana Rehmatullah Qadri, Maulana Umar Bin Abdul Aziz from Wifaqul Madaris Aslafia, Allama Abid Hussain Shakiri from Jamia Arif-Al-Hussaini Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ![]() , Mufti Mairajuddin Sarkani from Jamia Amania Peshawar, Mufti Raza Muhammad Haqqani from Jamia Taleemul Koran Peshawar, Mufti Khalid Usmani from Jamia Islamia Kohat, Mufti Sheikh Aizaj from Jamia Masjid Ahl-e-Hadis Fawara Chowk Peshawar and Maulana Abdul Karim from KP Ulema Council. |

Rashida Tlaib: ''...the horrible consequences of endless war and failed US policy going back to the 1980s when we backed the Taliban against the Soviets...''
2021-08-18 | |
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
Quick history lesson here for the Congressgirl: The main force of the mujahideen in the war against the Soviets was the Northern Alliance, headquartered in the Pandjir Valley
The south of Afghanistan is Pashtun, who speak the Pashto language. Pashtuns make up (guesstimating, since there hasn't been a census in years) about forty percent of the population. They're the largest population in Afghanistan, but not the majority. The Pashtuns were supported against both the Soviets and the Northern Alliance by the Pak Jamaat-e-Islami, headed by the late lamented Qazi Hussain Ahmed, and Jamaat-e-Ulema Islami, headed by Fazlur Rehman ( Mullah Diesel), and the also late lamented Samiul Haq ( Mullah Sandwich). Mullah Diesel got his name for the large amounts of diesel fuel that he resold at a profit, and Mullah Sandwich got his name from his habit of taking two boys to bed at once. Sami ran a madrassah that churned out little Pashtun fighters by the hundreds. Our friend Gulbuddin Hekmatyar ran his own Hizb, and he was Qazi's favorite. He got lotsa money, as did others like Yunous Kalis, the duke of Jalalabad, whom I kinda liked from my safe distance. Hekmatyar was also a double/triple agent, funneling information -- usually about Masood's forces -- to the KGB and separately to the KhaD, which was the Kabul government's secret police. After getting kicked out of Sudan, Osama bin Laden moved there to fight as well. I recall seeing at least one interview with him, probably on CNN, which did news in those days instead of whatever it does now. There were other Arab muj as well, not all of them virulent. Now, nowhere in that list of names is Mullah Omar mentioned, nor is the word Taliban. To make a long story short, the Soviets left in February 1988, the Northern Alliance kept fighting against the Najibullah regime, the Paks kept trying to control them through their mullahs for that "strategic depth" nonsense. The Northern Alliance eventually took Kabul. Najibullah and his brother took refuge with the UN headquarters. Barnhanuddin Rabanni (Tadjik) became president. Hekmatyar (Pashtun) became PM. Masood became defense minister. Dostum and Ismail Khan got Mazar and Herat, respectively. Hekmatyar wanted to be in charge, which started what was known as "dog eat dog," basically Pashtuns against Northeren Alliance. Rabbani was a nice man, and Hek overlooked his guardian Masood in the background. Hekmatyar rocketed Kabul before finally being run out of town to Iran and earning himself the title "Most Evil Man in the World." Most of Afghanistan came under the control of local warlords. Rabbani and his government remained the legal govt of Afghanistan and remained such until he stepped down in 2001. The net result was a weak and unstable government in Kabul and a lot of Pak pot stirring, courtesy of the thankfully late Hamid Gul and his ISI successors in league with Fazl, Qazi, and especially Samiul Haq. Got all that? Sami and his kindred were still stamping out little murderous Moslems, full of Koranic maxims about killing people and how to strip an AK-47, not so much about how to function in any but the most primitive kind of society. As soon as they were out of the pretty dancing boy stage they were off to Kandahar or someplace. Mullah Omar was a graduate of Sami's and he was a minor warlord around Kandahar. He may have fought against the Soviets. I have no idea what led to his dispute with Gul Agha Sherzai, the governor of Nangarhar; I read that it was defending a maiden's honor, but that's probably Pak bull droppings. Maidens don't have any honor in Pashtunistan. Omar ran Gul Agha out of town, and the Taliban was founded in 1994. With Pak support, they took more and more territory, though they never did control quite the whole country. Al-Qaeda assassinated Masood on September 9th, 2001, using two "journalists" from Belgium with exploding cameras. Probably twenty four hours later, not counting time zone shuffles, and the September 11th attacks were underway. Now, why kill Masood? Perhaps if bin Laden knew, without doubt, that the U.S. was going to retaliate against Afghanistan, he wanted the most able -- and Pak-free -- commander in the country neutralized. There were a number of fumbles and bumbles that took place in that period. Rather than nuke Kabul, or land six combat divisions and shoot the place up and put it under occupation, we worked with the Northern Alliance to toss the Talibs -- they're called Taliban because they were Sami's students -- but also put together a stupid "Southern Alliance" made up of Pashtuns. The Talibs had made a show of wanting to hang Karzai, so we held a conference in Berlin, gave him a cape, and made him president. That's how the decisions of December, 2001, led to this week's debacle. The moral of this story is: Never trust a Pak or a holy man and never put your full weight down on anything a politician tells you. I can't attest to the absolute correctness in detail of the above. I'm an old man now. While my memory's not as bad as Joe Biden's, it's not infallible, and I've been writing off the cuff.

Madressahs body asks govt to stop data collection of students |

![]() Lil' Martyrs For Allan™ This was announced by ITMP provincial representatives, including Maulana Hussain Ahmed, Dr Attaur Rehman, Mufti Fazal Jamil Rizvi, Allama Nazir Hussain Mathhari, Maulana Abdul Aziz ...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is... and Mufti Sirajul Hassan, while addressing a presser here on Friday. Sharing details of the agreement signed between the ITMP and government on May 6, 2019, they accused the federal government of failing to set up regional centres for registration of the religious seminaries with ministry of federal education and professional training. They asked for early implementation of the decision to avoid any possible complication. They said as per the agreement both the parties, the education ministry and heads of religious boards/seminaries, had decided registration of all 30,000 seminaries operating in the country, but the government was yet to fulfill its responsibilities. The government, they said had assured to facilitate the seminaries in getting registered with vocational training institutions so that their students could acquire vocational/technical education as well. We expected that government will fulfill its promises to provide all necessary patronage to seminaries so that our students could also get maximum chances to get contemporary education besides religious education but no such steps were taken so far, they said. The ITMP leaders said instead of materialising the agreement the personnel of various law enforcement agencies had started collecting details regarding the students and teachers, saying that visiting the female seminaries and that also at night was not only violation of the agreement but intolerable for ITMP. Only Madrassah heads can do that, for individual, "hands on" instruction They said the ITMP was a joint organization of five boards of religious seminaries which was fully determined to work as per the agreement and urged the government to set up the promised regional centres so that the process of seminaries’ registration could be started forthwith. The ITMP representatives said they were ready to share data of students of all Madaris to ministry of education as per agreement, but won’t allow sharing data, especially of female students, to cop shoppes and other organizations. |

Monitoring sermons |

![]() Indeed, the MYC ...Milli Yakjehti Council: an alliance of Pak religious parties including the Jamaat-e-Islami and the JUI-F. Somehow this is considered to be a good way to promote sectarian and religious harmony in Pakistain despite their habit of sponsoring terrorist groups both at home and abroad... has in the past also made attempts to promote religious and sectarian harmony -- most memorably under the stewardship of the late Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. He was also head of the MMA, a coalition of religious parties formed after 2001 that eventually collapsed under the weight of the holy egos involved. Qazi was the patron of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar during the Afghan mujaheddin's war against the Soviets. His sermons are described as fiery, which means they rely heavily on gospel and not at all on logic. Qazi once recommended drinking camel pee for good health, but that was before his kidneys went... -- with mixed results. And everybody was just so surprised. In the current atmosphere, where the mosque loudspeaker has far too often been misused to stir up hatred against different religious communities as well as various Moslem sects, the initiative is timely. But as always the question remains: how effective will it be? For example, over the past months the state has claimed to arrest a number of individuals for generating hate material. Yet we must ask if these efforts have genuinely succeeded in sending a strong message to hate-mongers that their actions will not be tolerated. In the latest initiative, will the clergy's effort to police their own deliver better results? History would suggest otherwise as in the past, well-meaning initiatives -- launched with fanfare and similar promises of cracking down on divisive ...politicians call things divisivewhen when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled... elements -- have fallen through as mainstream religious parties have failed to isolate hate-mongers. For example, whenever exigencies have demanded it, some of the MYC's constituent parties have shared the stage with outfits that make no bones about demonising other sects and religious groups. Will the holy mans, this time around, have the wherewithal to both publicly and privately condemn such elements? Well-meaning statements are fine, but religious parties will have to practically show they will not tolerate hate speech and will condemn rabble-rousing holy mans. |

JUI-F distances from counterterrorism legislation |
2015-01-06 |
Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Pakistan-Fazal (JUI-F) has startled its coalition partners by announcing that it will not support the amendments in the Constitution and the Army Act the PML-N-led government has tabled in the National Assembly to fight terrorism. “This is an action targeting the religious-minded of a single sect. We were neither informed about the amendments nor was our input (in drafting them) taken,” declared the party chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, at a press conference here. His statement came on the day the assembly started debating the bill amending the Army Act to allow military courts to try civilians too in terrorism cases. JUI-F chief was also critical of linking madaris (Islamic schools) and seminaries with the spread of terrorism in the country. His grievances were shared by the chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, the only other Islamic party represented in the parliament. Mr Sirajul Haq separately told a party gathering that the target of those decrying terrorism was Islam and the madaris. Both the leaders spoke of ‘consequences’ if their fears became the truth in the guise of counterterrorism under the National Action Plan (NAP) that their parties had agreed to in the aftermath of the Peshawar carnage of schoolchildren last month. However, Jamaat-i-Islami Emir sounded more specific. “If there is any large scale action against the madaris,” he said, Maulana Fazlur Rehman confined himself to saying that there is no distinction between terrorists. “A terrorist is a terrorist. How can one say this is religious terrorism? And what about killing in the name of ethnicity and tribes? Is that not terrorism?” he asked. Incidentally, neither the Maulana neither his party ever hinted at any of the known terrorist groups being behind the terror attacks the JUI-F have suffered over the years. Senior party leaders say the government’s approach to the issue is not directed to end terrorism, but to sidetrack the public sentiments from the root causes of terrorism. “This is a flawed policy,” spokesperson and former JUI-F MNA, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed told Dawn. “Who cut deals with Baitullah Mehsud?” he pointedly asked referring to the ferocious leader of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, killed in a US drone attack in August 2009. |

Five-member police team to probe JUI-F office-bearer's murder |
2014-11-30 |
[DAWN] HYDERABAD: IG Police Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Saturday formed a five member team to investigate the murder of Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, general secretary of the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam ...the political wing of the Pak Taliban... -Fazl (JUI-F) Sindh chapter. The team, which has started its investigation, is headed by DIG Larkana Saeen Rakhio Mirani with DIG Special Branch Sukkur Sharjeel Karim Kharal, SSP Sukkur Tanvir Tunio and SSPs of Shikarpur and Khairpur as members. Soomro was rubbed out in Sukkur early Saturday morning when he was leaving a mosque attached to a madrassah after offering Fajr prayers. Authorities are looking at a number of probabilities relating to Soomro's liquidation. They have recovered six bullet empties and got an eyewitness account claiming there were three to four assailants who arrived in a white car and left in a hurry. "We have got an eyewitness account of a mason who was present in the seminary-cum-mosque," said DIG Mirani, who holds the additional charge of DIG Sukkur Range police as well. According to Mirani, the assailants struck just before the morning Fajr prayers. "Gunmen sprayed Soomro with bullets while prayer was about to start," added Mirani from Larkana. Soomro had addressed a 'Payam-e-Amn' conference in Qasim Bagh Sukkur and had stayed in Jamia Haqania which is an under-construction seminary-cum-mosque located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Site area. Soomro, who was known for his fiery ...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob... speeches, had been vocal on issues of Sindh and had worked with nationalist parties and the PPP over issues such as Kalabagh Dam, Greater Thal Canal and missing persons. There were around seven to eight other people who had gathered to offer morning prayers. With serious bullet wounds, Soomro was taken to a nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead. He's dead, Jim! His family did not allow medico legal officers to conduct post-mortem. "We [the authorities] have not yet been able to find those responsible for the suicide kaboom on our emir, Maulana Fazalur Rehman. Authorities are in a habit of issuing a cyclostyle statement through Twitter and Facebook to condemn something. But in the present case, even such a statement has not been issued," reacted Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, a central leader of JUI-F, who had reached Larkana from Punjab. Funeral proceedings of Soomro will be held in Larkana at his seminary and he will be laid to rest after Maghrib prayers at a nearby space available adjacent to his seminary. Party leaders from across Sindh have started reaching Larkana to offer condolences. |

Stop it, for God's sake -- Shumaila Raja |
2013-11-15 |
[Pak Daily Times] In the debate, 'Who is a shaheed (martyr) and who is not', we have gone too far, much to the amusement of our enemy. What the Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... (JI) Ameer said was unfortunate, and it really hurt the sentiments of people, the army and the polity. But most of all unfortunate is the JI's opting to stick to its Ameer's stance, probably to gain political mileage. The JI was not in the mainstream. The blurb only served to retrieve its 'lost glory'. This tiny issue has itself helped to distract the nation's attention from more pressing issues. The Pakistain intelligence agencies have issued reports indicating a rise in sectarian strife in Punjab during the month of Muharram. Two banned ...the word bannedseems to have a different meaning in Pakistain than it does in most other places. Or maybe it simply lacks any meaning at all... organizations will assail opponents during the last three days of Muharrum on the dates of 8th, 9th and 10th respectively. Terrorists will carry out targeted attacks on Shia gatherings, majaalis (commemorative gatherings) and mourning processions, as well as assassinating specific and prominent personalities in order to accomplish their ulterior motives. This news came amidst reports that the US Senate Intelligence Committee has quietly approved a plan to step up both public and internal government oversight of the use of armed drones to kill suspected gunnies overseas, including US citizens. According to Rooters, the committee voted in closed session earlier this week to approve legislative language that would require the US spy agencies to make public statistics on how many people were killed or injured in missile strikes launched from US-operated drones. The committee also approved language intended to bolster scrutiny of spy agency deliberations over decisions about targeting US citizens or residents for lethal drone strikes overseas. The B.O. regime has been under pressure from foreign governments, the UN and human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... groups to be more transparent and rigorous in accounting for the civilian casualties caused by drone strikes. Though the committee did not release full details of its deliberations on the measures, sources familiar with the discussions said that some committee Republicans were opposed to the drone-related clauses in the bill, which would authorise intelligence activities for the current government fiscal year that began on October 1. With this in mind, some saner elements have stepped forward and started creating an environment of rapprochement, urging the JI to offer an apology and asking the military leadership to ignore it. One of the leading analysts, Ehsan Mahmood Khan, who recently authored a book, Human Security in Pakistain, said: "Syed Munawwar Hasan's statement looks to be an isolated and personal opinion. Consider a while that Liaquat Baloch, Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General, visited the native town of Major-General Sanaullah Khan Niazi in Daud Khel, Mianwali, on September 18, 2013. He offered condolences with the martyr's younger brothers, Rehmatullah Khan Niazi, DIG, and Ameenullah Khan, ex-Nazim, and paid rich tribute to the dear departed. The JI's local leadership was also accompanying him. Addressing a conference there he told the media that the Pakistain army's sacrifices in the defence of the country were matchless and unprecedented. 'The whole nation is proud of its brave soldiers and officers.' He said that the external involvement in this tragic act could not be unattended, as it has been traced in many cases in the past. This is the time that the Pakistain army, people, political government and media are on one page, which is good omen indeed. Does it mean that Munawwar Hasan and Liaquat Baloch have different views or their point of view is not that of the Jamaat-e-Islami?"Addressing a presser on the spot, he said that the sacrifices of Pakistain army to curb extremism are matchless, and that the entire nation is proud of its army men. However, man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... another analyst, Hussain Naqi, has a different opinion. He said, "Howsoever belated, the ISPR retort to JI Amir Munawwar Hasan is interesting but one is surprised that the ISPR spokesperson was unaware that Munawwar's mentor Maulana Maudoodi, whom the ISPR spokesperson mentioned with admiration, had exactly similar views about the shuhada of Pakistain army's 1948 Kashmire war, and what Maulana Maudoodi had said about the creation of Pakistain is also well known. For almost half a century, the army top brass has been collaborating with the Jamaat-e-Islami and its political philosophy in violation of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's secular standpoint about Pakistain's polity." In Shahbaz Thuttal's view, the Indians and CIA must be enjoying the outburst of the JI Ameer, as what they have been trying for the last over 60 years to divide the Pakistain nation in two groups and spread hatred against the army is now being actively done by the JI, who were the great supporters of Zia ul Haq ![]() and even became ministers under him. The Nawaz government should take a firm and strong stand. Now, otherwise, they will continue to be blackmailed by the JI. It is very strange that the PML-N is the only party that has not given any response so far, except for its Sindh Assembly minority that joined the resolution against the JI Amir's salvo. All other parties have supported the blurb. In his view, Riaz Jafri said, "I think we should bury the hatchet right here. The JI Ameer said something and the army and the general public gave their own point of view. That should be the end of it instead of insisting upon an 'unconditional apology' and the Ameer sticking to his own guns. Any further digging into the issue is likely to widen the chasm within the nation. Who is a shaheed and who is not, is not for them to decide. As a general belief all soldiers laying down their lives for their country and cause are assumed to be shaheed. Even in the Indian army any soldier dying on the front is called shaheed -- irrespective of his being a Mohammedan or non-Mohammedan. Muhammad Rafi's famous song has become immortal in this context and he is not addressing only the Indian Mohammedans in it: "Watan ki raah me watan ke naujavan shaheed ho/Pukarate hai ye zamin-o-aasama'an shaheed ho/Shaheed teri maut hi tere watan ki zindagi/Tere lahu se jaag uthegi is chaman ki zindagi." However, man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... he said, Syed Munawwar Hasan should have refrained from giving his opinion on such a sensitive matter and his utterances can only be termed as most untimely, immature and thoughtless to the extent of being reckless on his part. Professor Alya Alvi has, however, raised very pertinent questions. She says that the former JI Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed ...the absolutely humorless, xenophobic former head of the Pak Jamaat-e-Islami. (late) twice survived murder attempts. If he were killed, what would then Munawwar Hasan call him: shaheed or killed? If, God forbid, Munawwar Hasan is killed in a kaboom, what would the JI call him: a martyr or just killed? The TTP forces of Evil killed namazis while offering Juma prayers in the Parade Lane mosque, and many other mosques and Imambargah ...since they're religiously correct™, Shia Moslems in Pakistain can't call their houses of worship 'mosques,' which are reserved for Sunnis. It's not clear if imambargahs are used for explosives storage like mosques are... s. Were those innocent Mohammedans not shaheed?" In fact, the JI and ![]() Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Dieselduring the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ... 's statements have tried to damage the national cause and create confusion among the people, particularly the soldiers of our armed forces who are ever ready to sacrifice their lives as and when the nation calls for it. |

Bouquets & brickbats for police over arrest of four 'hit men' |
2013-03-03 |
[Dawn] Police earned the ire and appreciation of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Moslemeen and the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat ...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous bannedextremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wingof Lashkar-e-Jhangvi... , respectively, when they claimed on Friday to have tossed in the clink Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! four suspects associated with a political party and also involved in assassinations carried out on sectarian grounds. The police said that they arrested four men -- Syed Naeem Haider Najafi, Syed Hussain Ahmed Jafri, Rais Jafri and Syed Azhar Hussain Rizvi -- in the Gulbahar and Rizvia areas and seized pistols and a rifle from them. Speaking at a presser, DIG-West Javed Odho claimed that the held suspects were allegedly involved in 31 murders, including those of ASWJ workers. He said that the suspects had been associated with a political party, for which they had also killed several people, but now they were affiliated with a sectarian outfit and killing their rivals. However, some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... he did not name the political party to which they belonged. The DIG said that suspect Najafi confessed to his involvement in 11 murders, suspect Rizvi to 15 murders, suspect Jafri to four killings and suspect Rais Jafri to having killed one person. MWM demands DIG's dismissal After the announcement of the arrests, the MWM's Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... chapter held a presser at the Karachi Press Club and demanded immediate dismissal of DIG Odho for 'implicating innocent Shia men in the killings'. MWM leader Asghar Abbas Zaidi warned that his party would launch countrywide protests if the innocent Shia youths were not released. Accompanied by Maulana Mohammad Hussain Karimi, Maulana Ali Anwar Jafri and Mohammad Hussain Jafri, Mr Zaidi said that Rangers had taken 19 youths into their 'illegal' custody on the morning of Feb 25 from their houses without any warrant in Gulbahar's Jafria Colony. He said that 15 of them had been released, while the remaining four men were handed over to the DIG-West, who levelled baseless allegations against them in his presser. Referring to the presser of the police, Mr Zaidi said that the DIG-West claimed that the held persons had previously belonged to a political party and they recently quit it and joined a Shia party.Terming the DIG a biased officer, the MWM leader said that he did not name the political party but had no qualms about naming the Shia party in an attempt to bring the latter into disrepute. ASWJ praises arrests Appreciating the presser of the DIG-West, a front man for the ASWJ said that his party wanted a free and transparent trial of the held suspects. "Today's presser of the DIG west to show arrest of four suspected killers should be appreciated," he told Dawn. "We have credible information that law-enforcement agencies picked up some 20 suspects mainly in the Nazimabad, Gulbahar and Rizvia areas and they should not be released under any pressure." Referring to the Gulbahar and Rizvia areas, where he said his party had lost more than a dozen workers in recent weeks, the front man claimed that ASWJ leaders had informed authorities in their meetings about the presence of bully boyz in the two localities. He said that the police had time and again claimed the arrests of a number of members of banned parties, but this trend was never witnessed when it came to the arrest of the killers of ASWJ holy mans and activists. "The law-enforcement agencies should not set them free on personal guarantees or under any pressure and the held suspects must face transparent trial." |
