Egypt begins security operation against ‘terrorists’, closes Gaza border
2018-02-10 | |
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egypt on Friday launched a major security operation involving the army and police against "terrorist and criminal elements and organizations" across the country, the army front man said. The army front man said the operation covers areas in Sinai, the Delta and the Western Desert and it follows a three-month deadline set by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi to crush a years-long Islamist insurgency. "The law enforcement forces began this morning implementing the comprehensive confrontation against the terrorist and criminal elements and organizations in northern and central Sinai," an army front man said in a televised statement. Operational and training maneuvers The army front man said the operation will involve operational and training maneuvers to tighten state control on the country's crossing points with neighboring countries, and urged full cooperation with the law enforcement forces involved in the operation. Residents reported hearing extensive air activities above the Suez Canal city of Ismailia, which is close to the area of operations in northern and central Sinai. Security forces have for years battled an ISIS insurgency in North Sinai that has killed hundreds of soldiers and police. The gunnies have expanded their targets to include civilians over the last year or so. Closing the Gazoo border Egypt closed its border on Friday with the Gazoo Strip, Paleostinian officials said, after Cairo launched a major operation against jihadists in the Sinai Peninsula. The head of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, the Islamist group which runs Gazoo, was however permitted to travel to Cairo for talks before the border was closed a day earlier than planned. Friday was supposed to be the final of a three-day border opening for humanitarian cases from Gazoo, the first time the Rafah border crossing with Egypt had been open in 2018. "The Rafah border was closed today due to the security situation in Sinai, we were informed by the Egyptian authorities," said Saleh al-Zaq, head of the civil affairs committee which controls the borders. Hamas leader Ismail Haniya crossed the border to Cairo for talks with Egyptian leaders before Rafah was closed, Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum said. He said the talks would include an Egyptian-brokered reconciliation deal between Hamas and rival Paleostinian movement Fatah that has faltered, with multiple deadlines missed. It was believed to be Haniya’s first trip outside Gazoo since the United States included him on its terror blacklist last month.
17:15 Hours after the Egyptian army started Operation Sinai 2018 to fight terrorism this morning, the interior ministry said it killed three members of the banned Hasm terrorist group in a shootout in an under-construction residential building in Cairo. The ministry said its comprehensive security plan to curb the group’s actions in Qalioubiya, Daqahliya, Beheira, Menoufiya, Sharqiya, Assiut, and Fayoum led to the arrest of 14 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood following raids on their hideouts on Friday, the ministry said.

Israel Says Not Seeking Gaza 'Adventures' after Killing Claim |
2017-04-03 |
[An Nahar] Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Sunday Israel did not seek "adventures" in Gazoo after Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, accused it of assassinating an official, and suggested the group itself could have killed him. Hamas, which runs the Gazoo Strip, has blamed Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and its "collaborators" for the March 24 killing of Mazen Faqha in the Paleostinian territory. Israeli officials had previously not commented on the killing. "We are not looking for adventures," Lieberman said during a visit to the Israeli city of Sderot near the Gazoo border, according to his office. "We are conducting security policy with responsibility and determination. "It does not matter what Hamas says, it's important what the Jews do." He added: "Let Hamas do what it wants and we will do what we need to do. Hamas is known for internal liquidations, for settling accounts. I suggest that they look there for it." In response, both Hamas and its armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, accused Lieberman of seeking to evade responsibility for the killing. "The Israeli occupier bears all responsibility for the liquidation of Mazen Faqha and the ensuing results," Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum said in a statement. The killing has raised the possibility of a response from Hamas and a fresh escalation of violence. On Saturday, Hamas vowed "radical measures" against Paleostinians who "collaborated" with Israel, with interior ministry front man Iyad al-Bozum saying that could mean arrests, trials and even executions. |

Israel snubs Cairo talks, Hamas vows to continue fighting
2014-08-03 | ||
Netanyahu said Israel will keep up its military campaign in the Gaza Strip for as long as needed and with as much force as necessary. Hamas vowed on Saturday to continue its fight against Israel that has cost more than 1,670 Palestinian lives until the group has achieved its objectives.
Earlier, Netanyahu said Israel will keep up its military campaign in the Gaza Strip for as long as needed and with as much force as necessary. And he said that all options were “on the table” to achieve that mission. “From the beginning, we promised to return the quiet to Israel’s citizens and we will continue to act until that aim is achieved. We will take as much time as necessary, and will exert as much force as needed,” he said in a public address. “All options are on the table to return peace to the citizens of Israel.”
“Israel will continue to make every effort to bring its missing sons home,” he pledged in remarks made just after the missing soldier’s mother made an emotional appeal demanding there be no troop withdrawal until her son is found. He said troops would complete the mission of destroying a complex network of tunnels used by militants to infiltrate southern Israel before deciding on its next security objectives. “After the completion of our activity against the tunnels, the IDF (army) will prepare to continue our activities according to security needs, and only according to our security needs, until we achieve the objective of returning security to the citizens of Israel,” he said. Netanyahu warned Hamas that it will “pay an intolerable price” if it continues to fire rockets at Israel. Earlier Saturday, an Israeli official said Israel would not engage in Egypt-hosted truce talks with Hamas for the time being.

Israel will pay 'high price' for Gaza ground operation: Hamas
2014-07-18 | ||
[Al Ahram] Israel will pay a "high price" for launching a ground invasion of the Gazoo Strip, the Paleostinian Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, movement said on Thursday night. "The start of the Israeli ground attack on Gazoo is a dangerous step, the consequences of which have not been calculated," said Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum in a statement. "Israel will pay a high price and Hamas is ready for the confrontation." Israel launched a ground offensive in Gazoo late Thursday to stamp out rocket attacks, the Israeli army and the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. "Following 10 days of Hamas attacks by land, air and sea, and after repeated rejections of offers to de-escalate the situation, the Israel Defence Forces (army) has initiated a ground operation within the Gazoo Strip," the army said in a statement. Netanyahu's office said the "prime minister and the defence minister ordered the army to begin a ground operation and enter Gazoo to strike at the terrorist tunnels from the Gazoo Strip into Israeli territory." At least 240 Paleostinians have been killed in Israeli air strikes since July 8, many of them children, medics in Gazoo said, with a NGO based in the coastal enclave saying 80 percent of the deaths are civilians.

Israel says truce deal reached, Hamas doesn't confirm |
2014-07-18 |
[Al Ahram] An Israeli official said Thursday Tel Aviv had agreed on a ceasefire with Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, that will begin at 0300 GMT Friday, but the Islamist movement said it had "no information" on a deal. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the Israeli official told AFP that Israel and Hamas "have agreed upon a ceasefire that will begin at 6:00am Gazoo local time tomorrow." Hamas refused to confirm the report, with front man Fawzi Barhum telling AFP: "We have no information about this agreement." The potential breakthrough came as a major confrontation between Israel and Hamas murderous Moslems entered its tenth day, with the fighting to far claiming 231 lives in Gazoo and one in Israel in the worst fighting in and around the enclave in five years. A fragile five-hour humanitarian ceasefire, called for by the UN, went into effect at 0700 GMT, but three mortars fired from Gazoo hit Israel two hours later, the army said. Hamas denied any projectiles had been fired. Minutes before the five-hour truce went into effect, Israeli tank fire hit a house in southern Gazoo on Thursday, killing three people, medics said. Gazoo murderous Moslems have fired nearly 1,400 rockets at Israel during the Israeli offensive, which began July 8, well over 1,000 of which have hit Israel, the Israeli army says. Israel has launched more than 1,750 raids on Gazoo. |

Hamas Says Egypt Closing Gaza Border 'Crime against Humanity' |
2014-03-19 |
[An Nahar] Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers on Tuesday sharply criticized Egypt's closure of the Rafah border crossing, saying Cairo's tightening of restrictions against the Paleostinian territory was a "crime against humanity." "The Egyptian authorities' insistence on closing the Rafah crossing and tightening the Gazoo blockade... is a crime against humanity by all standards and a crime against the Paleostinian people," Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum said in a statement. He condemned "the continuation of this blockade and closing the crossing, all whilst Israel escalates and (increases) aggression." "We hold all parties to the blockade of Gazoo completely responsible for the consequences of this crime," he said. Egypt's military said on Wednesday that it had destroyed 1,370 smuggling tunnels under its border with the Gazoo Strip, as Cairo's ties remain sour with Hamas. Ties took a turn for the worse after the military's July ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi ...the former president of Egypt. A proponent of the One Man, One Vote, One Timeprinciple, Morsi won election after the deposal of Hosni Mubarak and jumped to the conclusion it was his turn to be dictator... , who belongs to the Moslem Brüderbund, with which Hamas is affiliated. The tunnels, under the town of Rafah, are used to transfer food, fuel and consumer products into the densely populated Paleostinian enclave. But Hamas and other turban groups reportedly use their own more secret tunnels to bring in arms and money. Egypt has also severely restricted access through the border town of Rafah -- Gazoo's only gate to the world that is not controlled by Israel -- ostensibly for security reasons. |

Hamas Condemns Anti-Islam Film, Gazans Protest |
2012-09-13 |
[An Nahar] ![]() The low-budget film, "Innocence of Moslems," portrays Moslems as immoral and gratuitously violent. It sparked protests in Egypt and Libya, where rioters attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, killing the ambassador and three others. In a statement on his Facebook page, Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum condemned the film as "disgraceful, racist and an insult to the feeling of every Moslem in the world." "We want to stop all disregard of principles and human values, to put an end to all these misguided policies, and we want respect for Moslem rights." Tens of Paleostinians gathered outside the United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... headquarters in Gazoo City to protest against the film on Wednesday afternoon, burning American flags and pictures of a U.S. pastor who has reportedly backed the movie. The demonstration was called by a small Salafist group called the Popular Resistance Movement. "This anti-Islam movie is proof of a clear Western Zionist policy intended to insult Islam in every possible way," a front man for the group, Khaled al-Azzbat, told AFP. "There must be clear responses to the Zionist enemy and the West and we will not stand and watch." |

Angry Protests, Transport Strike Grip West Bank |
2012-09-11 |
[An Nahar] Some 2,000 Paleostinians angry at the rising cost of living flooded the streets of Hebron on Monday, as a general strike halted public transport across the West Bank. Clouds of black smoke poured into the air across the Israeli-occupied territory as furious demonstrators set light to tires, kicking off a second week of protests against the spiraling cost of living, high petrol prices and unemployment. In the southern city of Hebron, demonstrators erupted into the streets in the early morning, blocking main roads with boulders and burning tires, which later degenerated into mass stone throwing at cars and the municipal building, an AFP correspondent reported. They also hurled stones at Paleostinian police and Israeli troops in the area. "We demand that President (Mahmoud) Abbas and Prime Minister (Salam) Fayyad resign and all of the Paleostinian Authority because they have been unable to carry out their political and economic duties," said 28-year-old Hebron resident Khaled Idriss told AFP. Another man had come to protest with his donkey -- the only form of affordable transport following the petrol price hikes. "I didn't come alone, I came with my donkey to show I am protesting against the rise in (petrol) prices," said 32-year-old Fawaz al-Ragabi. Public transport was at a complete halt throughout the West Bank as union bosses called a mass strike over the rising cost of petrol which has risen from six to eight shekels per liter in the past two months (from $1.50 to $2.00/1.18 to 1.57 euros). With no buses, minibuses or taxis in operation, the streets were empty, and private cars were also barred from entering towns and cities by makeshift roadblocks. At the Qalandia crossing between Ramallah and Jerusalem, small groups of bus and taxi drivers were on the lookout for any strike breakers. "People need to appreciate what we are doing and they should support us because you shouldn't be paying seven shekels ($1.8/1.4 euros) to get here from Ramallah," one driver told AFP, without giving his name, saying the current price of 3.5 shekels was set to double. So far, the police have looked on passively as thousands of demonstrators have protested over the past week, with front man Adnan Damiri saying they were not planning to intervene unless things got out of hand. "We completely understand these protests, the president and the leadership's instructions were clear and affirmed the peaceful nature of these protests," he told AFP. "We are not interested in clashing with the people because we don't want to complicate things, but at the same time we are seeking to maintain the peace." However the protests triggered sharp criticism of the Ramallah-based Paleostinian Authority from the rival Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers of the Gazoo Strip, with front man Fawzi Barhum saying they were a "natural reaction" to its "political and economic failure". "Abu Mazen (Abbas) has to respond quickly to the fair demands of the protesters and make them a priority, because responding to their daily needs is an act of nationalism," he told AFP. |

Hamas Says Does Not Plan to Quit Syria |
2012-01-29 |
[An Nahar] The Paleostinian Islamist movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, said on Saturday it does not plan to move its headquarters out of unrest-hit Syria. "There is no change, and Hamas has not taken any decision to leave Syria, and we are still there," front man Fawzi Barhum told Agence La Belle France Presse. He said the constant travels to Arab states of the movement's Damascus ...Home to a staggering array of terrorist organizations... -based chief Khaled Meshaal and other officials were aimed at consolidating Arab support for the Paleostinian cause and inter-Paleostinian reconciliation. On Sunday, Meshaal is to make his first visit to Amman since he was expelled from the kingdom in 1999. Hamas leaders will "keep Syria as their base even if they are obliged to stay away from the country a little more than before," said a Paleostinian official in Gazoo City, on condition of anonymity. "Hamas will not close its offices in Damascus and will not leave the country," he said, although "for reasons of security some leaders may feel obliged at times to leave the country." Syria, a firm supporter of the Islamist movement, has been hit by more than 10 months of deadly anti-regime protests. |

Hamas Considers Ramp Closure as 'War on Jerusalem Muslim Holy Sites' |
2011-12-13 |
![]() "This is a serious step that shows the Zionist scheme of aggression again the al-Aqsa mosque," Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum told Agence La Belle France Presse. "This is a violent act that amounts to a declaration of religious war on the Moslem holy places in Jerusalem," he said, calling for "Arab and Moslem mobilization to stop this serious event." Israel on Sunday night closed the Mughrabi ramp leading to the mosque compound in the Old City over public safety concerns in a move which was immediately condemned by Paleostinians officials and Jordan, which is the custodian of Moslem holy sites in Jerusalem. Jerusalem city council says the ramp poses a fire hazard and could collapse onto the women's prayer section by the Western Wall. |

Abbas asks Fayyad to form new Cabinet |
2011-02-15 |
[Arab News] Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas on Monday reappointed Salam Fayyad as prime minister and asked him to form a new government, in an apparent attempt to stave off any unrest in the Paleostinian territories. Earlier on Monday, Fayyad resigned and dissolved his cabinet in a major political shake-up ahead of Paleostinian elections to be held by September. However, The infamous However... Abbas immediately reinstated him as premier and tasked him with forming the new government. "Abbas reappointed Fayyad and asked him to form a new government," an official said. Sources said that the new government will be formed within two weeks. The sources added that Fayyad will hold consultations with the majority of Paleostinian political factions to include them in his new Cabinet. The new government will also have to tackle plans for holding presidential and parliamentary elections by September -- a deadline which was announced on Saturday by the executive committee of the Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO). Last week, the cabinet also approved plans to hold local elections on July 9, in what will be the first time Paleostinians have gone to the polls since 2006. But both announcements were firmly rejected by Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers, who have been locked in years of bitter rivalry with the Ramallah-based Paleostinian Authority of Abbas, which is dominated by the Fatah movement. "This procedure is invalid because president Abbas has no legitimacy and is not fit to organize such elections," Hamas front man Fawzi Barhum said. Ahmad Al-Majdalani, the outgoing labor minister, said the reshuffle will target at least half of the ministries. Al-Majdalani added that most of the key portfolios would be under the reshuffle, including the foreign, health, economy, labor, justice, finance and information ministries. Other Paleostinian sources said that the new government would focus on implementing a series of recent decisions by the Paleostinian leadership aimed at ending internal split and promoting national unity with Hamas movement. |
