Iraqi security forces thwart terrorist Plot in Kirkuk, capture two prominent ISIS members |
2023-04-23 |
[Shafaq News] Iraq's National Security Agency has foiled a "terrorist scheme targeting markets in Kirkuk" and apprehended two prominent ISIS murderous Moslems, an official statement said on Saturday. The Agency's operatives, in collaboration with the advanced joint operations headquarters and the provincial police, arrested a notorious terrorist, identified as "Abu Dujana", and his accomplice, in a complex intelligence and field operation. The detainees confessed to their sinister intentions of targeting civilians and security forces in the province via a series of explosions in crowded markets in a bid to destabilize the security and spread chaos. "However, death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate... the vigilance of the security forces prevented the realization of these nefarious plans," the statement said. Notably, "Abu Dujana," who recently renewed his allegiance to ISIS, had previously carried a kaboom targeting police patrols, killing an officer. He was also responsible for establishing a hideout for a terrorist cell in the Leilan sub-district of Kirkuk. Colonel Jalil Mam Faiq, commander of the 3rd battalion of the 3rd Peshmerga brigade, revealed that the turbans are forced to move through the outskirts, and some neighborhoods of, Jalawla and the periphery of Qara Tapa in the northeast of the Diyala province in order to escape the aerial and missile bombardment of the security forces. The commander said that ISIS members leave their strongholds in northern Jalawla and roam the areas and neighborhoods of Jalawla, 70 km northeast of Baqubah, and the peripheries of Qara Tapa (113 km northeast of Baqubah) during the night to avoid any ![]() KABOOM!... s or missile attacks targeting their hideouts. Mam Faiq confirmed to Shafaq News Agency that security authorities are aware of the movements but are yet to address them. The commander attributed "the lack of reporting on them by locals to fears of threats and the existence of some enclaves that collaborate or sympathize with terrorists." The territory northern Jalawla, including al-Islah basin, Sheikh Baba, the Jalawla border, and Qara Tapa, continue to harbor ISIS strongholds and hideouts due to the rugged geographical terrain and vast agricultural extensions. Since the Peshmerga's withdrawal from their sectors following the October 2017 events, the areas between Jalawla, Qara Tapa, and the Khanaqin outskirts bordering the Kurdistan region have witnessed continuous attacks and incidents. |

Vienna terror attack: Police investigating 21 potential accomplices

On November 2, the assailant, named as dual Austrian-Macedonian national Kujtim Fejzulai, ... who ran around a few blocks of Jewish Vienna in a fake bomb vest shooting at people for nine whole minutes before the police shot him down like a rabid dog, all for love of ISIS jihad. His ISIS nom de guerre was Abu Dujana al-Albani... rubbed out four people and injured more than 20 others in the city center before he was killed by police.Michael Lohnegger, the police official leading the investigation, told a presser that the 20-year-old was the sole perpetrator of the shooting spree. But he added that it was not yet possible to say "to what extent accomplices provided support before the act." A spokeswoman for the Vienna prosecutor's office, Nina Bussek, told news hounds that 21 people between the ages of 16 and 28 were under investigation, with 10 of them in jug. "They are essentially suspected of having contributed to the crime before the terrorist attack, and of being members of a terrorist group and a criminal organization," Bussek said. UNANSWERED QUESTIONS Fejzulai carried out the attack with a Serbian assault rifle, a Soviet-type handgun, a machete, as well as ammunition made in Serbia and China. Goodness. How very international. And even if he got the cheap versions, there is some money tied up in that equipment — who fronted him the funding, since it won’t have been wired from Syria... But Lohnegger said police were still investigating how the weapons reached Austria, and how Fejzulai managed to travel with them into the city center on the night of the attack.I believe gym bags are considered traditional. "What we can currently actually rule out here is that the perpetrator arrived at the scene of the crime by public transport," he said, adding that police were looking into other options, including taxis. "Whether it is also possible that he walked to the scene of the crime, I cannot say. That means I also cannot rule it out."Austrian authorities have acknowledged there were a number of security lapses in the months before the attack. For example, they failed to properly relay information that Fejzulai had tried to buy ammunition in Slovakia in July, and that he met with known Islamists from Germany and Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... that same month in Vienna. Fejzulai was sentence to jail in April 2019 for trying to join the "Islamic State ![]() Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... " holy warrior group in Syria but was released on parole last December. Despite attempting to buy ammunition and holding a meeting with Islamists, he remained free on probation because the relevant information was never passed on to the justice system. In an attempt to reconstruct this story, The Times has spoken to several people who tried to help Fejzulai or knew the Death Eater circles in which he had moved. Fejzulai was born in Mödling, a town on the southern fringe of Vienna. His parents were North Macedonian, his father a gardener and his mother worked in sales. In his mid-teens he began training as a telecoms engineer at a college a few minutes’ walk away from the Melit Ibrahim mosque. Here he appears to have fallen into a radical Salafist circle whose members included the "boy bomber" Lorenz K, sentenced to nine years in prison for grooming a German 12-year-old for a suicide kaboom, and Mirsad Omerovic, a prolific Islamic State recruiter. One expert on Islamist extremism who visited the mosque said that it should have been shut down by the state — as it was yesterday, though at least two years too late. In the summer of 2018, a few weeks after turning 18, Fejzulai tried to join an Islamist militia in Afghanistan but was turned back at the airport because he did not have a visa. A fortnight later he flew to ...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor... in an attempt to join Isis in Syria but was captured by the "My first impression of my client was a good one," Mr Rast said. "As I got to know him he showed no signs of being radicalised. I had no way of understanding the background [to what he had done]. My client was not even able to explain to me why he had really set off on the journey to Syria." ![]() Ouch! But clearly he was well beyond responding to a time out or Mom’s wooden spoon... the Austrian media reported. He was sentenced to 22 months in prison but granted conditional early release for good behaviour and referred to Derad, the deradicalisation scheme.Fejzulai’s Derad case worker was not deceived, however. "He venerated jihadist groups and wanted to join them," Moussa al-Hassan Diaw, Derad’s director, said. "And he practised takfir [declaring other Moslems to be infidels] and began to apply takfir to himself — he had doubts about himself, which can sometimes lead people to do things to themselves, perhaps because they are in a state of sadness. "In religious terms, he had some very naive views, for example the belief that if you make a prayer it will be fulfilled, as though by a fairy godmother. These views point towards a literalist kind of fundamentalism." As was seen with ISIS recruits, jihadi cannon fodder tend to be abysmally ignorant about all the things they claim to care most deeply about. Fejzulai moved into a council house, living on unemployment benefits ...the Western version of jizya... and began seeking new friends. His handlers were under no illusions, though.Mr Diaw said that it would have been nonsense to describe him as deradicalised. "There were positive aspects," he said. "But all that could not hide the fact that he had only changed outwardly: that his radicalisation continued and that he still clung on to the beliefs he had held before."
Prior to his November 2015 arrest, Omerovic had reportedly led a Vienna-based Bosnian terrorist cell through which he had recruited Europeans to join jihadist groups abroad. Omerovic was allegedly responsible for radicalizing Austrian teens Samra Kesinovic, then 17, and Sabina Selimovic, then 15, who joined ISIS in April 2014, becoming worldwide poster girls for the group. In November 2015, news reports emerged that Kesinovic had been beaten to death by ISIS after trying to escape from the group’s stronghold in Raqqa, Syria. These two high-profile recruits were among the more than 160 Europeans believed to have joined ISIS after being radicalized by Omerovic, who preached radicalizing messages in local mosques, as well as through his YouTube videos. Before his arrest, Omerovic was believed to maintain a direct line of communication with ISIS’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Omerovic was reportedly is believed to have been deeply connected to other jihadist operations in Europe. According to one Austrian newspaper, there is was “scarcely a single recruit in Europe for jihad in which [Omerovic] and his group were not involved.” Related: Kujtim Fejzulai: 2020-11-09 Two men arrested in Switzerland over possible links to a deadly attack in Vienna on November 2 Kujtim Fejzulai: 2020-11-07 Vienna anti-terror chief suspended after failure to prevent Islamist shooting Kujtim Fejzulai: 2020-11-03 Vienna Austria Terror attack UPDATE: Lone killer was released early from prison

Vienna Austria Terror attack UPDATE: Lone killer was released early from prison
2020-11-03 | ||
A huge manhunt was underway for multiple attackers armed with rifles following the horrific shootings, with the first near the synagogue reported at 8pm local time. As of 2am in Vienna, one terrorist remains at large with police cordons in place throughout the city and strict border checks. Children in the city will not be required to attend school on Tuesday. One attacker was shot dead by police with two civilians, one of them a woman, killed in the rampage. A police officer is also thought to have been shot and seriously injured. Vienna mayor Michael Ludwig said 15 people were admitted to hospital, seven with serious injuries. The rampage came on the final evening before Austria went into lockdown amid rising coronavirus rates, with bars and restaurants in the country closed from midnight and people flocking to enjoy one last night of freedom. Shocking footage showing a man carrying an assault rifle and sprinting through the streets of Vienna and firing off shots was shared on social media, shortly after reports of the attack. More distressing footage shared only appeared to show the moment a man is shot by an attacker.
Witnesses described dozens of screaming people fleeing the sounds of gunshots Monday night in a nightlife district crowded with revelers enjoying the last hours before a coronavirus lockdown. Others barricaded themselves inside restaurants for hours until they were sure the danger had passed. Video that appeared to be from the scene showed a gunman, dressed in white coveralls, firing off bursts seemingly at random as he ran down the Austrian capital’s dark cobblestone streets. While the attack lasted just minutes, authorities said only on Tuesday afternoon that there was no indication of a second attacker — adding to tension in the capital as residents were urged to stay home. Two men and two women died from their injuries in the attack — including one German woman, according to Germany’s foreign minister. Authorities said a police officer who tried to get in the way of the attacker was shot and wounded, along with 21 other people. The suspect was identified as a 20-year-old Austrian-North Macedonian dual citizen with a previous terror conviction for attempting to join the Islamic State group in Syria. Police searched 18 properties as well as the suspect’s apartment, detaining 14 people associated with the assailant who are being questioned, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said. “Yesterday’s attack was clearly an Islamist terror attack,” Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said. “It was an attack out of hatred — hatred for our fundamental values, hatred for our way of life, hatred for our democracy in which all people have equal rights and dignity.” The attacker, identified as Kujtim Fejzulai, was armed with a fake explosive vest, an automatic rifle, a handgun and a machete, according to Nehammer. Before the attack he posted a photograph on a social media account showing him posing with the rifle and machete, Nehammer said. Fejzulai was sentenced to 22 months in prison in April 2019 but was granted early release in December. “The fact is that the terrorist managed to deceive the judicial system’s deradicalization program” to secure his release, Nehammer said, adding that the system should be reevaluated. He also said that an attempt to strip Fejzulai of his Austrian citizenship had failed for lack of enough evidence. The Islamic State group on Tuesday claimed credit for the Vienna attack, calling the perpetrator a “soldier of the Caliphate.” The claim of responsibility was published through the militant group’s media arm, Aamaq. It didn’t elaborate on the attacker’s ties to IS and had similar wording to past, opportunistic claims by the group. IS also released a video through Aamaq of what is said was the attacker, Fejzulai, whom it called Abu Dujana al-Albani — apparently a nom de guerre — showing him pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group. It wasn’t clear when the video was filmed. In North Macedonia, police said a list of suspects sent by Austria included two others with dual Austrian and North Macedonian citizenship. In Switzerland, police in the city of Winterthur said an 18-year-old and a 24-year-old were arrested in consultation with Austrian authorities. Investigators are now trying to determine the nature of the two men’s contact with the Vienna suspect. Some of the circumstances of the Vienna shooting are reminiscent of the case of Usman Khan, who stabbed two people to death in 2019 in central London. Khan had been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted for his role in a plot to bomb the London Stock Exchange. He was released in December 2018 after serving half his sentence, as are most prisoners in Britain. While in prison, Khan had begun working with a program that seeks to rehabilitate criminals through storytelling and workshops. Nikolaus Rast, Fejzulai’s lawyer in the 2019 case, told public broadcaster ORF that his client had seemed “completely harmless” at the time. “He was a young man who was searching for his place in society, who apparently went to the wrong mosque, ended up in the wrong circles,” Rast said. Fejzulai’s family “wasn’t radical,” Rast added. “I still remember that the family couldn’t believe what had happened with their son.” Authorities worked well into Tuesday to determine whether there were any other attackers, with some 1,000 police officers on duty in the city. People in Vienna were urged to stay at home if possible on Tuesday, and children did not have to go to school. By mid-afternoon, investigators sifting through copious video evidence had found “no indication of a second perpetrator,” Nehammer said. “But because the evaluation is not yet concluded, we cannot yet say conclusively how many perpetrators are responsible for the crime.” For the time being, an elevated security level will remain in place in Vienna, he said. The country held a minute of silence at midday Tuesday, accompanied by the tolling of bells in the capital, and the government ordered three days of official mourning, with flags on public buildings to be flown at half-staff. The shooting began shortly after 8 p.m. Monday near Vienna’s main synagogue as many people were enjoying a last night of open restaurants and bars before a monthlong coronavirus lockdown, which started at midnight. Nine minutes later, it was over, Nehammer said.

Noor blames inner circles behind the assassination of Gen. Abdul Raziq |
2018-10-19 |
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive of Jamiat Islami Ata Mohammad Noor reacted to the assassination of Kandahar Police Chief and prominent Afghan security official Gen. Abdul Raziq. In a statement posted online, Noor claimed that Gen. Raziq’s assassination in a safe place and under strict security measures prove that he has been due to the conspiracies of his rivals and inner circles having links with the top government officials. The Taliban militants group in Afghanistan claimed responsibility behind the attack in southern Kandahar province that left the prominent Afghan security official and Police Chief of Kandahar Gen. Abdul Raziq dead. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in a statement claimed responsibility behind the attack and said the attack was carried out an infiltrator of the group Abu Dujana. Mujahid went on to claim that the attack was carried out during a meeting in the provincial government compound and as a result a number of other senior officials have sustained injuries. The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in a statement confirmed the incident and said two Americans have sustained injuries but the RS and U.S. forces Commander Gen. Scott Miller has escaped the attack unhurt. “At Kandahar palace today: Afghan-on-Afghan incident, as initial reports indicate. 2 Americans wounded. Gen. Miller uninjured, attacker reportedly dead,” the Resolute Support Mission said in a statement. In the meantime, reports indicate that provincial intelligence chief Abdul Momin Hussain Khel has also been killed and provincial governor Zalmai Weesa and the commander of 404 Maiwand Zone Abdul Nabi Elham have sustained injuries. |

Jahannum' (Hell) She Called Him. And Ensured He Was Caught In Kashmir |
2017-10-10 |
[NDTV] Srinagar: It was a visit to a girlfriend that allowed security forces to kill Kashmir terrorist Umer Khalid today, said sources. Khalid, a senior commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, was shot in Ladoora in North Kashmir; security forces first identified him and asked him to surrender; when he fired on them along with other terrorists, more troops were rushed in. Khalid was injured and managed to escape briefly before he was cordoned off and shot. A woman who he was romantically involved with told the police that he was likely to visit her this morning. She angrily referred to him as "Jahannum" (Hell). They were not in an exclusive relationship. "He had about 17 girlfriends - some new, some old. A few who he had ditched became vengeful and even started giving information about his whereabouts to us," revealed a senior police officer who was involved in this morning's encounter. Intelligence officials and the police believe that Khalid helped prepare and execute last week's attack on a huge base of the Border Security Force beside the Srinagar airport. Security agencies say that many terrorists like Khalid who come from across the border in Pakistan fall for better-educated Kashmiri women and manage to intimidate or coerce some of them into relationships. Sources said the affairs are fecund material for detailed information that can be used to track down wanted terrorists, some of whom are told on by wives or girlfriends who have been ditched. "When they go to meet women, they go alone and we launch an operation then only," revealed a senior official. In August, another terrorist, Abu Dujana of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, was killed when he was visiting a young woman. In that case too, his jilted lover had informed the police about his coordinates. |
