PTI offers chairman Senate post to JUI-F's Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
2021-03-10
[DAILYTIMES.PK] The PTI government has offered the Senate deputy chairman seat to its staunch opponent Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one that was led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spent more time running his madrassah until his secretary rubbed him out in a jealous rage. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
(JUI).

As per details, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak has confirmed the development, saying that the ruling party has told senior JUI-F leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
that he can be the deputy chairman Senate.

Earlier today, Khattak and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani met Haideri and offered him the position.

Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, whose party is member of opposition alliance Pakistain Democratic Movement (PDM), said that he cannot predict who will become Senate Chairman on March 12 nor has he been informed about PDM’s decision about candidates for the top slots of Senate.

On the other hand, PDM has decided to field JUI-F candidate for slot of Senate Deputy Chairman while Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) will get post of Opposition leader in the upper house of parliament.

A meeting of steering committee was held under the chair of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at his residence. The meeting deliberated on names of candidates for the elections; however an official announcement will be made by PDM head Maulana Fazl-ur Rehman.

The elections for the coveted slots of Senate chairman and deputy chairman are slated to be held on March 12 and the opposition is contesting these polls jointly. It has already nominated Pakistain People’s Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gillani as its candidate for the Senate chairman seat.

Earlier, on March 4, Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality disorders...
announced Sadiq Sanjrani as the party’s candidate for chairman Senate.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
from that total of 49, the PML-N’s Ishaq Dar, who was elected senator in 2018, has yet to take oath and is unlikely to be able to vote for the Senate chairman.

That means the opposition in reality has only 48 senators, and the Senate itself will have 99 members able to vote.

Bear in mind that the the government and opposition’s numbers combined (46+48 = 94) still leave 5 senators to be accounted for.

These are the senators who will be key to determining the final result. More on them below.

Senator announces to boycott in camera meetings to discuss blasphemy law
2018-10-12

...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazal (JUI-F) Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
on Wednesday announced that he will boycott meetings of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology if in camera meetings are held to discuss a proposed law seeking equal punishments for those convicted of blasphemy and those who make false accusations of blasphemy.

The Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill 2018 was moved on the directions of Islamabad High Court after Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui ordered last year during a case that those who make false accusations of blasphemy should be given the same punishment as those convicted of blasphemy.

The bill was later prepared by the government and was referred by the upper house to the committee for discussion.

Chaired by Senator Rubina Khalid, the committee decided not to discuss the bill in the absence of Information Technology Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who tabled the bill in Senate but Senator Haideri still started discussing the issue.

"The matter is being discussed in the religious circles and we are of the view that such kinds of bills should not be passed. Many people register baseless cases of theft, robberies and other crimes and people are killed in the main markets but the aggrieved families cannot prove murder because witnesses refuse to record their statements in the court," Mr Haideri said.

Top IS leadership targeted in Mastung operation
2017-06-05
[DAWN] A number of key commanders of the murderous Moslem Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group have reportedly been killed in a major intelligence-led counterterrorism operation near Mastung in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, security officials told Dawn.

The operation in the hills near Mastung started on Friday and was continuing when this report was filed late Saturday night.

The action was prompted by intelligence reports that two Chinese-language instructors kidnapped from Quetta on May 24 were being held in the area. The security forces are said to have recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the kidnapping of the Chinese duo from the area.

Earlier in the month, about 28 people were killed in a suicide kaboom on the convoy of Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
in Mastung.

The Saturday night operation was kept highly classified, according to a military source, to prevent any leakage of information.

The Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the military, did not immediately comment on the reports about the operation.

According to reports, top 10 commanders of the IS from different parts of the country had assembled in the Mastung area for a meeting when the raid began. It is claimed that at least eight or nine of the commanders were killed and the remaining have been captured. The names of the slain commanders were not immediately available.

At least seven troops were maimed in the operation, including three officers. Two of the injured soldiers are said to be in a critical condition.

The level of the IS leadership claimed to have been taken out, when confirmed, indicates that it could be the biggest operation against the murderous Moslem outfit since Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. in 2015, who were then said to be close to joining the IS.

Security sources say elimination of top leadership would serve a major blow to the IS in Pakistain. Officially the government denies presence of the murderous Moslem organization in the country.

A security source said the terrain of the area was very difficult and the troops had to physically go there because there was no option.

"The battle is going on ... kidnapped Chinese persons are inside a deep cave being used as command base by the IS. Special Services Group commandos are going in," a security source said in a late-night update.

A Senate director staff, Iftikhar Mughal, was reportedly killed in the attack.

It is unclear whether the kaboom was the result of an improvised bomb (IED) or a suicide kaboom. Police say the attack is likely to have been a suicide kaboom.

Haideri had been invited to the seminary for an investiture ceremony, DawnNews reported.
Sounds like an inside job.
An eyewitness present at the event said the guests were leaving for a luncheon when Haideri's convoy came under attack.
Walked right into the setup. Maybe he drove.
The eyewitness told DawnNews that there was an kaboom, followed by sustained firing. "After the air cleared, we saw bodies everywhere."

A police car was part of Haideri's security detail and police officials are among those injured in the blast, another eyewitness said.

Press Club on Tuesday, he warned that no one would be allowed to use NAP as a tool against the religious institutions in the country. He claimed that NAP was not being implemented in its true sense rather it was misused.

Maulana Haideri, who is also deputy chairman of the Senate, said that his party had also supported NAP and establishment of military courts in the larger national interest, but they could not remain silent if anything was done wrong. He alleged that NAP was used as a tool against madressahs and for the arrest of religious scholars under the fourth schedule.

The religious seminaries, he said, were the places of Islamic teaching which had nothing to do with terrorism. He said that such policies would create unrest in the country and its entire responsibility would rest with the government.

FWO refuses to reconstruct seminary
2014-02-24
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: In yet another blow to the timely reconstruction of the damaged seminary and mosque building at Raja Bazaar, the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has decided to leave the project, it has been learnt.

The exit of the FWO citing controversies involved in the project has prompted the provincial government to hire a private contractor to complete the work, said sources.

It has been learnt that the seminary holy mans and the Evacuee Trust Property Board are still at loggerheads over the ownership of the land.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
Punjab Labour Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar on Saturday laid the foundation of the complex.

The madressah along with a mosque and the Madina Market housing 130 shops was burnt during the sectarian violence on Ashura.

The provincial government announced to reconstruct the building and released Rs340 million.

It also awarded the contract to the FWO for pulling down the dilapidated structure and reconstructing it.

The FWO razed the building and was ready to reconstruct it. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
two days back the FWO informed the city government that it would not reconstruct the building.

Upon this, the Punjab government asked the Communication and Works Department to invite bids from the private contractors. According to rules, it will take 20 more days to select the contractors.

When contacted, District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar Dall admitted that the FWO had left the project due to "some important development works in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
and other parts of the country."

He said the development had been shared with all the stakeholders, including the seminary holy mans and traders.

The process for the selection of the construction company will take two weeks and the work will be started after this.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
the foundation-laying ceremony was held at the site in Raja Bazaar.

Khalil, Commissioner Zahid Saeed, DCO Sajid Zafar Dall, former MNAs Malik Shakeel Awan, Hanif Abbasi and traders' representatives attended the function.

The minister on the occasion said the government had fulfilled its promise to start the reconstruction of the building.

He directed the commissioner and the DCO to take personal interest to complete the work as soon as possible, so that traders can start their business and the seminary continue imparting religious education to the students.

He praised the religious leaders for maintaining sectarian harmony after the Ashura violence.

Maulana Ghafoor Haideri said the credit went to the people in general and traders and religious leaders in particular to convince the citizens that the sectarian issue was created by anti-Islam powers to divide the Moslem Ummah.

"Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in coordination with Maulana Fazlur Rehman controlled the situation amicably," he said.

Rawalpindi Traders Association president Sharjeel Mir thanked the government for starting the reconstruction of the building.

He also requested the government to complete the work within a month and pay compensation to the traders so that they would start their business again.

"We have sent the assessment of losses worth Rs2.4 billion instead of the Rs9 billion and the government should provide the amount to the traders as soon as possible as they are suffering from financial crisis," he said.

Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
on Saturday

Rehman visited Mansoora- the JI headquarters in Lahore- to invite the JI leadership at the All Parties Conference (APC) scheduled for Feb 28 in Islamabad.

Speaking to media representatives, Syed Munawar Hassan said the prevailing law and order situation called for a decisive dialogue with the Pak Taliban for restoration of peace. He said the government's attitude of ignoring the offer of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and taking it as a sign of weakness was the worst example of indifference.

The JI chief said the federal as well as the provincial governments have failed to discharge their duties, therefore, the national leadership should step forward for restoration of peace in the country.

He said the country was facing terrorism and lawlessness, adding the whole nation wanted to get rid of terrorism at the earliest. The menace of terrorism had also given rise to the problems of price hike, energy crisis, unemployment and more, he said.

Hassan appreciated Fazlur Rehman's peace efforts and accepted the Islamabad moot invitation.

To a question, he said the JI had recommended the name of justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid as caretaker prime minister and added that now it was for Leader of the Opposition in NA Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to meet the prime minister and ensure the formation of caretaker setup.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman informed that the FATA tribes have formed a "Grand Jirga" for restoration of peace, and the Jirga had expressed the desire to meet national leaders for putting forth their proposals.

He said law and order was the biggest issue in the country. Houses are being demolished and innocent people are being killed in drone attacks, said the JUI-F chief. If the national leadership did not step forward, someone else might take the lead for selfish interests, he added.

The JUI-F delegation also included Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri
...Central Secretary General of JUI-F, member of the Pak senate, formerly provincial minister of Balochistan. He has a master's degree in Islam and runs a madrassah...
, Maulana Attaur Rahman, Maulana Amjad Khan and Riaz Durrani.

JI deputy chiefs Dr Muhammad Kamal, Sirajul Haq, JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch, and JI KP chief Prof Muhammad Ibrahim Khan were also present on the occasion.
