Zimbabwe: I have no intention to run for a third term - President Mnangagwa
2024-04-09
[AFRICANEWS] In a video unveiled by leading Zim-bob-wean newspaper The Sunday Mail, president Emmerson Mnangagwa dismissed allegations he would run for an unconstitutional third term.

"There is not an iota of evidence where Zanu PF or I, as President, has ever expressed the violation of our Constitution," the 81-year-old said.

"We in Zanu PF are very democratic and we obey the Constitution."
"We in Zanu PF are very democratic and we obey the Constitution."

Zanu PF, the ruling party has reigned over Zim-bob-we since independence.

Much attention has been drawn to a slogan heard at Zanu PF rallies in recent months ’2030 vaMnangagwa vanenge vachipo’ (loosely translated as ’2030 Mnangagwa will still be president’).

The party secured a supermajority in Parliament last February in disputed by-elections.

Zimbabwe's ruling party secures supermajority in Parliament
2024-02-07
Unexpectedly.
[AFRICANEWS] Zim-bob-we's ruling Zany-PF emerged winner of Saturday's (Feb.03) by-elections held in Mashonaland East province.

The party secured significant victories in several key constituencies, including Seke and Goromonzi South, and even achieved a clean sweep in the Marondera district.

When general elections were last held ZANU-PF was 10 seats short of the two-thirds majority in parliament, now after a series of disputed by-elections it has attained that goal.

Zanu PF now holds 190 seats in the National Assembly.

Securing this supermajority in the 280-member parliament, the party moves closer to changing the constitution if it wishes.

The election came amid a political crisis in the country which has been growing since the group of MPs with the main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) had their seats declared vacant in October.

Just over two years at the helm of the Citizens Coalition for Change, opposition leader Nelson Chamisa announced on January 25 he was leaving the opposition party saying it has been "hijacked" by the ruling party.

Zimbabwe: War Vets Threaten Zanu-PF Bigwigs
2018-10-18
[All Africa] War veterans yesterday petitioned the Zanu PF leadership demanding the removal of former Cabinet ministers from their full-time positions in the party, threatening to remove the bigwigs from their offices if their demands are not met.

According to the petition addressed to Zanu PF chairperson Oppah Muchinguri and obtained by this publication last night, the former fighters want the party's secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, secretary for health David Parirenyatwa, commissar Engelbert Rugeje, secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa and politburo member Sydney Sekeremayi fired.

The war veterans accuse the Zanu PF heavyweights of sabotaging President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Rugeje, who retired from the army after the coup that toppled former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe

in November last year, is being targeted for allegedly failing to campaign for Mnangagwa ahead of the July 30 elections.

Mnangagwa narrowly avoided a run-off against MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa after registering a 50,6 % victory.

Chamisa has refused to concede defeat saying the election result was manipulated in favour of Mnangagwa.

The petition was signed yesterday by war veterans representatives from 10 provinces.

The war veterans claimed it was difficult to restructure the party when there were still some members aligned to the G40 faction, which backed Mugabe at the height of Zanu PF's succession wars.

The former fighters, who supported Mnangagwa during his tussle for control of the ruling party with G40, threatened to storm the Zanu PF headquarters to remove the targeted officials if the party failed to take action.

"Consequently, in pursuit of our constitutional mandate as custodians of the Zim-bob-wean people's revolution, as patriots, loyal and stockholders of Zanu PF, we demand, as we hereby do through the copy of this petition, that the following members relinquish their posts and vacate offices at the Zanu PF headquarters with immediate effect," reads part of the petition.

"Failure to do so, we, as veterans of the liberation struggle, shall force them out of the offices for the good of the people's revolution.

"Cde Obert Mpofu needs to clear the corruption allegations levelled against him before resuming office."

The war veterans said they wanted the Zanu PF commissariat to be overhauled immediately.

"Their involvement in the primary elections affected the president's performance in harmonised elections. It leaves us with more questions than answers where the President gets 50,6% while MPs could get more than 73%. We need an uncompromising team of dedicated cadres to take us to the 2023 elections," the petition added.

"Sekeramayi, Parirenyatwa and Chinamasa's unrepentant behaviour towards the new dispensation: Though we are not opposed to their ideas of having permanent appointments, these elements are known for factionalism and cannot be entrusted with such responsibility."

Three dead in Harare violence; police keen to speak to Tendai Biti
2018-08-02
[NEWZIMBABWE] POLICE have confirmed that three people died as violence rocked Harare Wednesday afternoon after results of Monday’s elections showed that the ruling Zanu PF party had won the parliamentary vote.

ZRP spokesperson Charity Charamba confirmed the fatalities Wednesday evening while also revealing that police were keen to interview MDC Alliance leaders Tendai Biti and Happison Chidziva in connection with the violence.

Dozens of suspected MDC Alliance supporters streamed into the city centre after the parliamentary result was confirmed with some trying to storm the Zim-bob-we Electoral Commission (ZEC) Harare head offices as well as the elections command centre at Rainbow Towers hotel.

Riot police and the military then moved in to disperse the crowds with the latter reportedly firing live ammunition at the protestors.

Charamba said police had yet to identify the three people who died in the festivities and urged members of the public to desist from being coerced into committing acts of violence and vandalism.

ZEC Says to Investigate Zanu-PF Bindura Rally Mayhem
2018-07-11
[All Africa] The Zim-bob-we Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it is investigating skirmishes that broke out during President Emmerson Mnangagwa's Bindura rally weekend resulting in scores beaten up and injured by police.

The embarrassing incident happened in the middle of Mnangagwa's rally address when some party followers started trooping out of Chipadze Stadium, inviting the wrath of the police, army and some Border Gezi youths who could not stomach seeing scores walk out on the President.

The stampede was reportedly triggered by a Zanu PF supporter who had shouted that buses that brought them to the venue were about to leave Chipadze stadium, according to state media.

Some independent media reports however, pointed to disturbances caused by people who had had enough of Mnangagwa's long address under chilly weather conditions.

Gays Sing ED Praises, Say President More Engaging Than Mugabe, Opposition
2018-07-11
[All Africa] Gays and Lesbians Association (GALZ) director Chester Samba has showered praises on President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom he said understood them better than his predecessor and the opposition.

"We started talking to Mnangagwa when he was Justice Minister and he is a reasonable man and is not new to LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual, intersex and queer) issues compared to the hostile reception of the former president Mugabe," he said at a media briefing by community groups on Monday.

"We have also seen a decline in abuse in campaigning by Zanu PF of our members and harassment just in the recent past and this may see our members voting."

's regime, gays were subjected to insults and victimisation by the country's security establishments.

Mugabe described them as "worse than dogs and pigs".

Galvanised by Mugabe's ouster and his replacement by Mnangagwa November last year, gays and lesbians have moved to gauge the new rulers' position on their situation.

This culminated in a surprise meeting with Zanu PF officials which was later described as successful by the group.

Samba said they also attempted to engage the opposition MDC-T led by Nelson Chamisa but were ignored.

"Yes we met Zanu PF officials and we had a fruitful meeting after writing a letter to them but we did not even get a response from other political parties that have a chance of forming the next government," said Samba.

Blacks doomed without whites; Bob anti-white stance ‘dangerous’, says Zanu PF MP
2018-07-10
[NEWZIMBABWE] OUTGOING Zanu PF MP for Mpopoma-Pelandaba, Joseph Tshuma has made astounding claims Zim-bob-weans were doomed without the involvement of whites in their affairs.
A bit of diversity ain't gonna hurt 'em. It can't make things worse, anyway.
Tshuma, who is also party central committee member, was speaking at a political parties discussion forum in Bulawayo Saturday.

The event was hosted by the Zim-bob-we Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and the Bulawayo Media Centre.

Relations between the country and the West took a knock at the turn of the century when then President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
seized productive land which was in the hands of white Zim-bob-weans of European descent for redistribution to black locals.

Mugabe went on to introduce laws which compelled foreign businesses in Zim-bob-we to surrender at least 51 percent equity to blacks.

He followed his policies with repeated public rants against whites on alleged attempts to recolonise his country through financial support to his opponents as well as attempts to prescribe solutions to the country’s myriad problems.

Mugabe once stunned the world during an international summit attended by world leaders when he confronted then British Prime Minister Tony Blair and telling him to "keep your England and I will keep my Zim-bob-we".

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible...
his anti-white stance Saturday invited strong rebuke from one of his former allies, Tshuma who described it as "dangerous".

"We are coming from the era of Robert Mugabe. An era which closed us out from the rest of the world," Tshuma said.

"We began to leave in a vacuum. That was the most dangerous thing that was ever experienced by this country other than the bombings during the liberation struggle."

The Zanu PF politician said no other country was capable of developing without the involvement of whites.

"We made a mistake as a party through our (former) president when we said’ Blair keep your England and we keep our Zim-bob-we’.

"Yes, we kept our Zim-bob-we but what kind of Zim-bob-we did we keep? One thing that I have been made to understand and agree strongly whether painful or not, we cannot do away with that person called umkhiwa (white).

"When you do that, it is at your own peril. You need the white man to be there somewhere."

Incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa has moved to try and mend the country’s relations with the West through an engagement process that has seen Western business delegations visit the country to explore opportunities.

Chamisa Denies Grace VP Pact, Scorns Zanu-PF for Tormenting Mugabe
2018-07-10
[All Africa] MDC Alliance presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa has rubbished continued State media claims he has promised former First Lady Grace Mugabe a Vice President post in exchange for her support in his bid to form the country's next government.

The State-owned Sunday Mail ran a story claiming the Presidential hopeful had "jumped into bed" with former President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. 's wife.

Grace is said to be the brains behind the National Patriotic Front (NPF), a political opposition formed by disgruntled G40 politicians who were elbowed out of the ruling party when President Emmersn Mnangagwa took over the country following Mugabe's shock ouster November last year.

Addressing thousands of party supporters at campaign rally at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Sunday, Chamisa accused Zanu PF and the State-controlled media of misleading the public ahead of this year's elections July 30.

"I have not run out of options that I would resort to appointing Grace Mugabe as my vice president. Don't listen to the Sunday Mail.

"The Herald and Sunday Mail now have an editorial policy to misinform the people," Chamisa said.

The opposition leader said he found it strange that after working with Mugabe for 56 years, Mnangagwa and Zanu PF now found everything so wrong about anyone cutting deals with the former first family.

"As the MDC Alliance, we respect Mugabe's legacy but he is now history and like everyone, we are also happy that he has retired," Chamisa said, adding, "Why is Zanu PF tormenting him? I have never met him since he retired but I have heard from sources that he said Chamisa had a clear agenda and he would vote for me. If Mugabe wants to vote for me, he is welcome.

has fired six security details provided by the state because he suspected they were spying on him on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government, it has been revealed.

According to insiders, Mugabe took the drastic action last week soon after his return from Singapore where he spent over two weeks seeking medical treatment.

The long-time Zanu PF leader, who was ousted through a coup in November last year, is said to be now considering recruiting his own security details.

During Mugabe's absence, the government allegedly withdrew three of the former president's security details without his knowledge.

The 94-year-old politician was reportedly infuriated by the move and ordered the remaining six aides to stop reporting for duty.

"Three aides were withdrawn on June 23," a source said. "No explanation was given to Mugabe, who was told by the other aides that the three had been withdrawn by government."

The dumped workers included a receptionist and members of the kitchen staff.

Mugabe is said to have complained that the security details spent most of their time at State House where they would have been summoned by their bosses.

"Mugabe has dumped the workers. He found three withdrawn when he was away and he dismissed the remaining six," the source said.

The sources said Mugabe was not happy that his workers were regularly quizzed about visitors to his Harare mansion.

is ready to endorse MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa ahead of the July 30 elections as prospects of him reconciling with his successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa continue to diminish, it has been revealed.

According to multiple sources, Mugabe recently sent emissaries to Chamisa seeking dialogue ahead of the polls and indicated that he was willing to back the leading opposition candidate because he was not happy with the treatment he was receiving from Mnangagwa's government.

Mugabe revealed in March that he would back the National Patriotic Front (NPF), a party formed by former Zanu PF members who were not happy with the coup that toppled the 94-year-old ruler in November last year.

The NPF has been negotiating a coalition with the MDC Alliance, but the talks suffered a severe blow last week after the Chamisa- led group allegedly reneged on its promise to give the Mugabe-linked party a significant number of constituencies.

"Mugabe sent two prominent holy mans with a message that he was willing to assist Chamisa gain an electoral advantage over Mnangagwa in the forthcoming elections. He says he is prepared to endorse Chamisa," said a source. "He is mainly concerned about the future of his family and says he believes Chamisa has the potential to become the next president."

Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa Admits Internal Party Polls Rigged
2018-06-11
[All Africa] President Emmerson "Crocodile" Mnangagwa has admitted his Zanu PF party's primary elections were rigged.

In rare frank talk by a Zanu PF leader, Mnangagwa told his party's central committee meeting in the capital Friday that he wanted to chart a new course henceforth.

"With regards to the recently held primary elections and our internal democratic process we were exposed to gross shortcomings within our party systems, cadre orientation and grounding.

"The primary election process therefore brought to the fore conduct which is alien to the character and personality of our revolutionary party," said Mnangagwa.

Zanu PF has been accused of rigging national elections and in 2013 the opposition claimed the ruling party used an Israeli company to manipulate the results of the elections won by the former liberation movement with a landslide.

"This includes alleged vote buying, outright manipulation of party procedures, rules and regulations and disregard to the letter and spirit of the constitution of our party," said Mnangagwa.

"We noted with concern the unbridled ambition demonstrated by some cadres of the party who were prepared to win no matter the costs."

Mnangagwa promised to reform Zanu PF's internal systems including creating a new structure to run the affairs of the party full-time.

"Ours is a revolutionary party; things go according to the rules. We also recognise the need to modernize our party systems in general. While we cannot change the past, we must indeed learn from," he said.

He pleaded with his lieutenants to project a new face of the ruling party.

"Let the people see a new face of our party through our good deeds, language and positive energy as we inspire them towards a better tomorrow.

"In the new Zim-bob-we everyone is free to campaign, to speak their mind and to express themselves, however they choose," he said adding Zanu PF should not be distracted "from our ultimate goal of of putting food in every Zim-bob-wean's plate."

Mugabe’s party fingers Zanu PF as machete wars kill, maim many in Midlands

[NEWZIMBABWE] Escalating pie fights caused by machetes in Midlands which have resulted in numerous deaths and life threatening injuries are to be blamed on Zanu PF heavy weights in the province, the former President Bob Muggsy Mugabe

backed National Patriotic Front (NPF) party has said.

"We are saddened by the loss of lives especially here in Kwekwe. The deaths were avoidable," NPF president Ambrose Mutinhiri said at the party launch in Kwekwe over the weekend.

Mutinhiri said Zanu PF bigwigs are the ones who are controlling gold mining activities in Kwekwe.

He, however, lamented the continued penury on ordinary citizens in the mineral rich province.

"Midlands is a mineral rich province but people are living in poverty regardless of the resources in the province. Only a few individuals from the ruling party are benefitting," he said.

Zanu PF politicians in the province, in March, seized a foreign-owned gold mine and allowed party youths to mass into the property in what has been seen as a vote buying gimmick ahead of the polls this year.

Gaika gold mine is owned by Jersey-based and privately owned Duration Gold.

The seizure of the company’s Kwekwe property was reportedly facilitated by known Zanu PF politicians and is understood to have the backing of senior party officials in the province.

Giaka Mine has since been shut down after the company owners sought a High Court interdict to stop operations.

Illegal mining activities have, however, continued unabated.

In recent months, Kwekwe has seen a rise injuries and death by machete.

"The obtaining situation is very disturbing. The situation has now completely gone out of hand but it’s difficult to control since there are powerful figures behind the operations," Mutinhiri told the gathering.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter awoke groggily, his hand still stuck in the Ming vase...
Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube has said police must arrest anyone found in possession of a machete.

"I am calling on the police to arrest anyone they are going to find in possession of a machete. We want a peaceful society-a society which is free from machetes," Ncube recently said.
