Taliban Opposed to Turkey's Running of Airport Security

[ToloNews] The Taliban

International Airport, with a front man of the group saying that they are against the presence of any foreign troops after the given deadline for their withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The US and coalition forces are expected to fully leave by August 31. Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. has said that an agreement has been reached over the post-withdrawal Kabul airport security.

"If they remain within the framework of NATO

or Turkey or any other country, it will not be acceptable both for the people of Afghanistan and for the Taliban," former Taliban commander Sayed Akbar Agha said.

Erdogan announced the agreement on July 9.

"Our defense minister met with the US defense secretary, and we had a meeting with US and NATO to discuss the future of the Hamid Karzai International Airport," Erdogan said on July 9. "We decided on what we accept in this respect and which conditions we don’t agree upon."

The Afghan government welcomed the move. The Civil Aviation Authority on Sunday said that a new defense system has been activated at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

"We welcome friendly countries for their cooperation in strengthening the capacity and management of the control of airports," Defense Ministry’s front man Rohullah Ahmadzai said.

The new defense system at the Kabul airport has been established with the help of Afghanistan’s allies, a government front man said.

"Right now, our foreign allies are cooperating with us so that we can find the capacity to use the weapon (defense system)," said Gen. Ajmal Shinwari, a front man for the government forces.

Turkey has been helping in Hamid Karzai Airport’s security since 2013, officials said.

"It creates some type of concern--why are they trying to secure their route? For fleeing? On the other hand, it is a type of hope as it gives a feeling of the international community’s presence," said retired general Zahir Azimi.

Afghan forces clear 2 districts off from Taliban in northern Faryab province: MOD
2021-06-18
[KhaamaPress] The Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced that 45 members of Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
members were killed and 67 members were maimed in the Dawlatabad and Shrintagab districts of Faryab Province.

The statement by the ministry said that there was heavy fighting in recent days between the security forces and the Taliban in this province.

The latest tweet from Fawad Aman, Deputy Spokesperson of Ministry of National Defense stated that the Taliban suffered heavy causalities during the military operations in Faryab province.

He added that the the two districts have been cleared off from Taliban.

So far, it has been the third attack that the Taliban failed to capture the districts, according to Fawad Aman.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the Taliban have not yet commented about this operation so far.

23 Commandos Killed Attempting to Hold Dawlat Abad Center: Source

[ToloNews] At least 23 members of an Afghan Army’s special forces unit were killed while fighting the Taliban in the northern province of Faryab on Wednesday, a security official who wished not to be named said on Thursday.

The clash started in Dawlat Abad district after commandos and local troops launched a clearing operation, according to the source.

“At least 23 commandos were killed and six policemen were wounded in the clashes,” the source said.

The security forces retreated from the center of the district after heavy clashes and are stationed in Qaramqol district in Faryab following the clashes, the source said.

One of those killed, Sohrab Azimi, 27, was a special forces officer who had received military training in the US as well as in Turkey. He was the son of retired Gen. Zahir Azimi, a former spokesman for the Ministry of Defense.

In a social media post, Azimi confirmed his son’s death in the fighting and said he is “proud of his martyrdom.”

Azimi said that his son and his son's colleagues did their duty proudly and courageously and sacrificed their lives to defend the country.

He also blamed officials for not providing support during the operation.

“His blood is not more than the other sons of this nation. I am proud that he performed the duty given to him until the end. He took the district and raised Afghanistan’s flag, and to keep it he fought until he died,” Zahir Azimi said.

“It was expected that reinforcements would be sent to the area for their support, but unfortunately it didn't happen,” he said. “The clashes escalated and they were surrounded at the place where he was killed with some of his friends and others who were injured--they were shot and killed by the Taliban.”

Sohrab worked in the support section of the special forces, but when the district fell to the Taliban he took charge of a group of 35 commandos to fight the Taliban in the district on Tuesday morning, local sources and security sources said.

“They were pushing back the Taliban from the center of the district but the Taliban was attacking the security forces and security force members were killed,” according to sources.

“The commandos sent their vehicles outside the area to bring army soldiers, and in the meantime, the Taliban attacked the commandos,” the sources added.

The center of Dawlat Abad district has fell to the Taliban a week ago following heavy clashes.

Taliban Conducts 2,162 Attacks after RIV Week
2020-04-14
[ToloNews] TOLOnews findings show that the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
has carried out 2,162 attacks against government forces following the one-week reduction in violence (RIV) that started on February 22 and led to the signing of a peace agreement between the US and the Taliban.

The findings show that the Afghan forces — who now claim to be in an active but defensive mode against the Taliban — have conducted 302 operations in response to the Taliban during this period — March 3 to April 7.

Before the RIV week, the Taliban conducted over 70 attacks a day, according to sources, while TOLOnews findings show that during the reduction in violence period, the security incidents dropped to as low as 12 to 15 per day. But the findings also show that after the RIV period, the Taliban conducted 31 to 96 attacks on Afghan forces per day while government forces responded with between 1 to 17 operations a day.

"They (the Taliban) do not have full control over their fighters for two reasons: First, some of their fighters are foreign nationals, and, second, they are faced with an internal rift," said Zahir Azimi, a retired Army general.
TOLOnews findings show that the Taliban conducted 195 attacks on an Afghan forces outpost and their convoys from February 22 to March 11, a time period that includes the reduction in violence week and another 10 days in which the group pledged to keep its attacks low. During this period, the group conducted 11 to 27 attacks on Afghan forces in a day.

During the RIV week, Afghan forces conducted 74 attacks — 1 to 20 attacks a day, the findings show.

The findings also reveal that the Taliban conducted 45 attacks on the first day after the end of the RIV week — on March 1 — a day after the signing of the US-Taliban agreement.

"Taliban attacks have dramatically increased after the reduction in violence week, and it still continues," Defense Ministry front man Fawad Aman said. "The security and defense forces thwarted Taliban attacks within the framework of the defensive status," said Aman.

The Taliban has said that some of their attacks in some provinces have been in response to night raids and operations by Afghan forces.

Analysts question the independence of the Taliban’s leadership to make own their decisions, and they also doubt their control over their fighters on the battlefields

"They (the Taliban) are not independent in their decisions," said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, former deputy minister of interior affairs, who called the US-Taliban agreement incomplete.

"They (the Taliban) do not have full control over their fighters for two reasons: First, some of their fighters are foreign nationals, and, second, they are faced with an internal rift," said Zahir Azimi, a retired Army general.
Then there is no point in negotiating peace with them. Even if they intended to abide by anything they signed, their people can be trusted to break it.

Peace Agreement Between US and Taliban 'Finalized': Abdullah
2020-02-18
[ToloNews] Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
at the Council of Ministers on Monday said that the peace agreement between the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and US has been "finalized."

"The agreement between the Taliban and US has been finalized and the signing of the agreement is based on the reduction in violence over seven-days and then it will continue," Abdullah said.

"It also an opportunity for the opposite side to show that they want peace in the country," Abdullah said.

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan’s Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, tweeted updates about progress in the grinding of the peace processor, noting the reduction in violence agreement between the US and Taliban, but stressed that "success cannot be guaranteed."

Khalilzad reported on Twitter that he had met with President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
in Munich on Friday and held a series of meetings with leaders and representatives from different countries.

Khalilzad also mentioned a "prolonged and fruitful" trip to Doha before attending the Munich Security Conference.

During a meeting with President Ghani, Khalilzad said the two "spoke about the opportunity of this reduction in violence and the imperative of preparing for an inclusive Afghan grinding of the peace processor."

"We urge all Afghans to seize the moment and end the misery of more than four decades of war," Khalilzad said.

Khalilzad said he briefed leaders at the Munich Security Conference about the grinding of the peace processor and "also discussed next steps and committed to working together on the difficult and complicated road ahead."

Abdullah meanwhile called on the Afghan forces to demonstrate their will for the implementation of a reduction in violence, about which the US and the Taliban have agreed in principle.

And the Taliban also, he said, should use this opportunity to show their willingness to implement a reduction in violence.

"The implantation and proof of our will for peace is so important when it comes to working on the details of a reduction in violence," Abdullah said.

But some security force members interviewed by TOLOnews said they do not have any details about a reduction in violence, so far.

"Whenever our elders order, as always, we are ready to stay firm in our duty. We have given sacrifices in this way and we will succeed," said Raz Mohammad, a policeman in Kandahar.

Analysts said the Afghan government does not have a specific plan for a reduction in violence and that it does not have a clear, practical definition for Afghan security force members.

"An Afghan soldier should know that what his duty is, and if he sees a Taliban should he open fire on him or should he welcome him?" said Zahir Azimi, a military analyst.

"Our elders should sit and talk with Americans about the reduction in violence term and they should get a clear definition," said Zalmay Zabuli, an Afghan Senator.

Afghan government says US withdrawal will not affect security
2018-12-22
[Al Jazeera] The possible withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan will not affect the security situation of the country, senior Afghan officials have said, following numerous media reports that President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
was planning such a move.

"If the few thousand foreign troops that advise, train & assist, leave it will not affect our security," Fazel Fazly, chief adviser to the Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
, said on Twitter on Friday.

"In the past four & half years our security is completely in the hands of Afghans and the final goal is that ANDSF [the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces] will stand on their feet to protect & defend soil on their own."

Presidential spokesperson Haroon Chakhansuri also said on social media that a US withdrawal will not have a security impact.

Various US media outlets reported on Thursday that Trump planned to withdraw some 7,000 of 14,000 US troops from Afghanistan.

The news followed a two-day meeting in Abu Dhabi between US special peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban
...Arabic for students...
representatives at which the two sides discussed the withdrawal of international forces.

In 2002, some 130,000 international troops entered Afghanistan following the military intervention of US forces to topple the Taliban government. Since then, close to 2,500 US troops have bit the dust in the war.

Former Ministry of Defense front man Zahir Azimi said on Friday that a possible withdrawal could affect the capabilities of Afghan troops in conducting effective night raids. US aerial support is also critical to Afghan ground forces.

60 Taliban, 7 soldiers killed in Afghanistan clashes
2015-05-20
[AA.TR] Afghan cops killed 60 suspected Death Eaters, wounding 46 others in operations across 12 provinces in Afghanistan over the last 24 hours, Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

"The operations were conducted in collaboration with Afghan national army and intelligence service forces in the north and southern provinces of Afghanistan," the statement said.

It also said that several suspects were detained while a large cache of weapons and ammunition were seized.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again...
Defense Ministry Spokesman Gen. Zahir Azimi said at least seven army troops were killed during counter-terrorism operations.

"Seven soldiers lost their precious lives in direct firing and IED [Improvised Explosive Devices] kabooms during fight against terrorists," Azimi said. "We offer condolences to their families."

He further added that 27 rounds of IEDs and huge amount of ammunitions were discovered.

Talibs have intensified their attacks in city centers and on Afghan cops' outposts as part of their spring offensive which kicked off in April.

In 2015, Afghanistan has seen unprecedented violence. The Afghan Ministry of Defense terms it as Taliban's attempt to gain greater leverage in peace talks with the Afghan government expected to resume this summer.

4 Afghan soldiers martyred in IED attack in past 24 hours
2015-02-11
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were martyred following roadside Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the incident took place during the past 24 hours.

No further details were given regarding the exact location where the four Afghan army soldiers bit the dust.

Talibs and Death Eaters from the other myrmidon groups frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces.

According to security officials, the Afghan army deaths stands at 4 service members daily on average which is mainly caused due to improvised bomb (IED) attacks.

IED attacks are also the major contributor to civilian casualties in Afghanistan, as civilians are mostly targeted in roadside kaboomings.

In the meantime, MoD front man Gen. Zahir Azimi said at least 48 Death Eaters were killed and 3 other were detained during operations led by Afghan army soldiers in the past 24 hours.

Gen. Azimi further added that the Afghan army soldiers also confiscated 31 rounds of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during the same operations.

Two Blasts Hit Kabul, Seven Afghan Soldiers Wounded
2014-11-26
[Ynet] Two kabooms shook the Afghan capital on Tuesday, leaving seven army officers maimed after a kaboom on their bus, while a grenade blast in the diplomatic quarter caused no casualties but led to the arrest of a suspect, officials said. Kabul has suffered a growing number of bombings by the Taliban and other jihadist gunnies as foreign combat troops withdraw from a 13-year-long war, leaving behind a smaller support mission.

Early on Tuesday, a remote-controlled bomb went kaboom! on the city's outskirts as a bus carrying Afghan army personnel passed by, said Zahir Azimi, a front man for the Afghan defence ministry. Seven of the bus passengers were maimed.

Militant Threat in Badakhshan, Kunduz Grows
2014-10-28
[Tolo News] Hundreds of Taliban gunnies attacked police outposts in northeastern Badakhshan province, clashing with Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and killing four coppers in over the past two days, local officials said on Monday.

"About 300 Taliban gunnies attacked a number of police outposts in the Warduj district of the province," said Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, a front man for Badakhshan Police Chief. "The gunnies killed four coppers and took a number of ANSF soldiers captive; we do not have details yet."

Ahmadzai said that additional troops have been deployed to the area to reinforce those under siege and free those who have been taken captive. He reported the gunnies had suffered heavy casualties.

In contrast to the reports from the Badakhsan police, however, a security source who spoke to TOLOnews on condition of anonymity said eight coppers have been killed in the attacks.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the offensive.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Kinnison began his slow infiltration of the sewer system...
in Badakhshan's neighboring province, Kunduz, there have also been major festivities between the Taliban and the ANSF. According to reports, the Taliban have taken control of 30 villages in Kunduz, including Gor Tapa and Imam Saheb.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has taken up the fight in Kunduz as a top national priority. "We are working with full force and with the cooperation of the elders to clean the area," MoI front man Sediq Sediqi said. "We also want to find out how the gunnies infiltrated the area and launched the attacks on us."

Kunduz is a strategically important province, being often viewed as a gateway to the northern provinces of Afghanistan. Thus Parliament has given a lot of attention to the security crisis there.

"If the government fails to focus on the security situation in Kunduz and doesn't establish more check posts in areas cleaned of armed opponents, there is the possibility that more districts would collapse," Kunduz MP Fatima Aziz said.

Security officials have assured they are doing all that they can, but have said the Lion of Islams' tactics have made things difficult. "The war tactic is the same; they attack and escape upon resistance from our forces," MoD front man General Zahir Azimi said. "That becomes easier because the area is mountainous and they can also go to the other side of border with the help of Pak intelligence."

Insurgent attacks have intensified over the past month, after an especially bloody summer fighting season. A recent ramp up in Lion of Islam activity followed the signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) between Kabul and Washington, which has extended military cooperation between Afghanistan and its NATO

ANSF Regain Control of Sangin. Again.
2014-10-13
[Tolo News] Reports indicate that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have regained the control of Sangin district of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

After four months of on-going festivities with krazed killers, the ANSF was finally able to drive out the alleged Pak-backed Death Eaters out of the district. The forces are currently conducting operations to tackle the roots of insurgency in the district.

"Sangin faced a lot of hardships, but the fighting is over now," front man for the Ministry of Defense (MoD) Gen. Zahir Azimi told TOLOnews. "Our forces are conducting military operations to maintain long-lasting peace and security in the district."

Gen. Azimi deems the air support of foreign forces to the ANSF essential in driving out the Death Eaters out of district.

Former President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
's lack of support for air attacks is considered one of the main reasons for the prolongation of the festivities in Sangin. However,

the support of foreign forces has reportedly increased since President Ashraf Ghani

and the new administration took office.

"After the political transition and the signing of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA), the spirit of cooperation among the ANSF and international forces in all aspects, especially in air support, has increased," Azimi added.

The front man for the Ministry of Interior (MoI) Sediq Sediqqi expressed a similar outlook of optimism about further cooperation between the national and international forces.

"When we request the support of the international forces, they show flexibility and provide us with prompt support," he added.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Bert was realizing to his horror that he'd had only one bottle for one message, and he'd forgotten to include a return address...
the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), in a statement, expressed appreciation for the performance of the ANSF in Sangin, emphasizing that if needed, ISAF will provide air support to the Afghan forces after 2015.

"As Regional Command Southwest ends its mission and ISAF transitions to Resolute Support in 2015, we will link ANSF in Helmand to an advisor team in Kabul that will continue to support institutional development and sustainment," the statement read. "This will include continued aviation support by ISAF, upon request of the ANSF, and the further development of the Afghan Air Force."
