Abbas quits PLO leadership ahead of internal election |
2015-08-24 |
[ARABNEWS] Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... resigned Saturday as head of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee in a bid to force new elections for the top body, an official said. Wassel Abu Yussef said that more than half of the 18-member committee had also stepped down. "The resignation of the president of the executive committee Mahmoud Abbas and more than half of its members has created a legal vacuum, and therefore the Paleostine National Council has been asked to meet in one month to elect a new executive committee," Yussef told AFP. Yussef added, however, that the resignations will take effect only when the PNC meets. The PNC, or Paleostinian parliament, has 740 members who live in the Paleostinian territories and in the diaspora. It has not met in nearly 20 years. Yussef said that before the resignations were announced, the executive committee elected chief Paleostinian negotiator Saeb Erakat as its secretary general. That move came after Abbas suspended another key member, ![]() ... Paleostinian politician and a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee. PLO official bashes ‘dictatorial’ Abbas |
2014-12-15 |
[IsraelTimes] A bigwig in the Paleostine Liberation Organization has accused the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... of intentionally undermining the Paleostinian Authority’s UN bid to set a timetable for an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, dubbing the PA president’s political conduct “dictatorial.” The minutes of a meeting between ![]() ... Paleostinian politician and a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee. He holds an M.A. in economics and political science from the American University in Cairo..... , a former negotiator and the secretary of the PLO’s Executive Committee, and committee member Hanna Amira on November 26, were leaked Saturday by the Gazoo-based news agency Safa. The meeting revealed the animosity between Abbas and Abbed Rabbo, who was reportedly relieved of his duties by the Paleostinian Authority president earlier this month. According to Abed Rabbo, Abbas is rushing to bring a Paleostinian draft resolution to the UN Security Council without even securing the nine votes necessary for its adoption, thereby rendering an American veto unnecessary. Chief Paleostinian negotiator Saeb Erekat ...negotiated the Oslo Accords with Israel. He has been chief Paleostinian negotiator since 1995. He is currently negotiating with Israel to establish a de jure Paleostinian state... said on Sunday that the Paleostinian proposal would be submitted to the UN on Monday. “He doesn’t want to embarrass America,” Abed Rabbo reportedly said of Abbas, adding that he does not understand what good a new UN resolution will do after the Paleostinians won recognition as a nonmember observer state in the international body in November 2012. “We’ve already obtained a much more important decision, namely the recognition of Paleostine as a non-member observer state in the UN,” Abed Rabbo said, “but we’ve done nothing to implement that decision.” In recent weeks, Abbas has repeatedly spoken of the Paleostinian imperative to turn to the UN and other international forums in the absence of a credible Israeli peace partner. Abbas told the Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... on November 29 that he would turn to the Security Council immediately “with or without an American blessing.” “We can wait no longer; the status quo is untenable,” he said. In the leaked minutes, Abed Rabbo also accused Abbas of insincerity in seeking to join the ![]() ... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ... “It is impossible for him to turn to the ICC, and he will never carry out such a step,” the PLO official was quoted as saying, citing a promise Abbas made to US Secretary of State John F. Abed Rabbo claimed that Abbas had met secretly with Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen, who asked him to calm the security situation in Jerusalem in return for Israeli confidence-building measures. A source close to Abbas denied on Sunday that such a meeting ever took place, the Ma’an news agency reported. “Abu Mazen [Abbas] wants to consolidate all authorities with his cronies,” Abed Rabbo was quoted as saying, claiming that Abbas was planning to hand over Abed Rabbo’s authorities to Ramzi Khoury, head of the Paleostine National Fund. “He acts in a dictatorial way, wishing to control everything related to money.” |

The PLO is "ready to work hard with the American administration and all regional leaders to develop mechanisms to implement different levels of the strategic direction announced by Kerry," he said. Israeli Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said that "even when a British Moslem beheads a British Christian there will always be someone who blames the Jews." State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf insisted that Kerry "did not make any linkage between Israel and the growth of ISIL (an alternative acronym for the Islamic State group), period." "If we could achieve peace between the Israelis and Paleostinians, that would create a more stable region writ large," she said. For his part, Abed Rabbo said "those who criticise Kerry want the terrorism of the Islamic State organization to continue to use it as an excuse to obstruct a political solution and end to the occupation." "We hope that these balanced American statements will reflect on the Paleostinian resolution in the (UN) Security Council that will be proposed in the coming days" to call for the end of Israel's occupation. |

PA Security Questions Employees Of Abbas Rival
2014-08-27 | |
[IsraelTimes] Two employees at an aid organization run by former Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad were questioned by Palestinian Authority security services, apparently under instructions from PA leader Mahmoud Abbas. The recent questioning of workers at the Future for Palestine fund, which aims to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged Palestinians, was carried out by the Palestinian Preventative Security Service, rather than the regular PA police, Haaretz reported on Tuesday. Western officials noted that the use of the security service rather than the police indicated that Abbas, a long-time rival of Fayyad, was fully aware of the development. "There's no doubt that this process was initiated by orders from above," said a Western diplomat. "Such things don't happen just like that." According to the Jordanian Jafra News website, PA security agents are looking at Fayyad's possible involvement in an alleged coup to overthrow the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.
Last week Abbas ordered his security services to probe Israeli claims that it had uncovered a Hamas plot to topple him and start a third intifada against Israel. Abbas indicated the report could severely impact the national reconciliation deal signed between Fatah and Hamas in June, saying it represents "a grave threat to the unity of the Palestinian people and its future," the Palestinian news Agency Wafa reported at the time. Since resigning his position in 2013 over disagreements with Abbas, Fayyad has put his efforts into social activism that has reinforced his status with Western officials. While the questioning of Fayyad's workers initially looked at the group's funding, much of which is said to come from the United Arab Emirates -- which has poor relations with Abbas -- investigators also grilled the employees about the organization's political aspirations. The Future for Palestine charity fund was formed several months ago and recently launched a public campaign asking West Bank Palestinians to donate drinking water and equipment on behalf of residents of the war-torn Gaza Strip. The donations were to be delivered to Gaza by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. Fayyad played down the significance of the investigation. "There has been no police search of my office or home," Fayyad said in a statement to Haaretz. "There has been some activity which I am told is part of an effort on the part of the PA to verify compliance with rules and regulations. In the case of the organization I head, Future for Palestine, I am perfectly comfortable that we are in full compliance and with substantial margin to spare." The PA declined to comment on the investigation but officials indicated that the move was related to a reports at the beginning of the week of a special committee that has been formed to look into the activities of civic action groups in the West Bank and Gaza.

PLO offers truce as at least 100 killed in Gaza |
2014-07-30 |
[ARABNEWS] A senior PLO official proposed a 24-hour humanitarian cease-fire Tuesday in the Gazoo war, saying he spoke in the name of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, but was contradicted a short while later by a front man of the Islamist movement. In Gazoo, a health official said at least 100 Paleostinians were killed in Israeli There have been several instances in which the daily Gazoo corpse count in more than three weeks of Israel-Hamas fighting has surpassed 100. Israel has lost 53 soldiers, along with two civilians and a Thai national. Tuesday's cease-fire offer was made by the Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO), of which Hamas is not a member. The largest group in the PLO is the Fatah movement of Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... , Hamas' main political rival. However, the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits... the PLO's secretary-general, ![]() ... Paleostinian politician and a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee. He holds an M.A. in economics and political science from the American University in Cairo..... , said the offer came after consultations with Hamas and Islamic Jihad ...created after many members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... , a smaller murderous Moslem group in Gazoo. Paleostinian officials said Abbas has been in touch in recent days with Khaled Meshaal, the top Hamas leader in exile. "The Paleostinian leadership, following consultations with the leadership in Hamas and Islamic Jihad, announces in the name of all of these our readiness for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire for 24 hours," Abed Rabbo said in the West Bank. A Hamas front man in Gazoo, Sami Abu Zuhri ...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest... , said that "the remarks of Mr. Abed Rabbo are not true and have nothing to do with the positions of the factions at the moment." It was not clear if Abu Zuhri reflected the views of the Hamas leadership in exile. In Israel, government front man Mark Regev declined comment. Tuesday's strikes came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday warned of a "prolonged" campaign against Hamas. It was not clear if this meant Israel has decided to go beyond the initial objectives of decimating Hamas' ability to fire rockets and demolishing the group's military tunnels under the Gazoo-Israel border. Already, the intensity and the scope of the current Gazoo operation is on par with an invasion five years ago, which ended with a unilateral Israeli withdrawal after it hit Hamas hard. Gazoo's power plant also was forced to shut down Tuesday after two tank shells hit one of three fuel tanks, said Jamal Dardasawi, a front man for Gazoo's electricity distribution company. He said the damage would take months to repair. Even before the shutdown, Gazoo residents only had electricity for about three hours a day because fighting had damaged power lines. |

Israel hits symbols of Hamas rule; scores killed |
2014-07-29 |
![]() A nice start. Make over half of them cry and they'll kill Hamass for you. Thick black smoke from the plant's burning fuel tank rose for hours. The station's shutdown further disrupted the supply of electricity and water to the 1.7 million people packed into the narrow Palestinian coastal territory. On Tuesday evening, residents of the sprawling Jebaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza reported intense tank shelling. Ten members of an extended family were killed and 50 other people wounded in the area, Palestinian health officials said. Two brothers driving in a car with markings of a U.N. aid agency were killed by shrapnel, an area resident said. "It was like an earthquake," Moussa al-Mabhouh, a volunteer for Gaza's Civil Defense, said of the scene. "Roofs collapsed, walls cracked and wounded people everywhere." The heavy strikes which came a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday warned of a "prolonged" campaign against Hamas were a new blow to international efforts to reach a sustainable truce in the fighting. Israel has vowed to stop the Hamas rocket and mortar fire that has reached increasingly deeper into its territory and to destroy a sophisticated network of tunnels that have been used by the militants to infiltrate the Jewish state. For its part, Hamas has so far rejected cease-fire efforts unless its demands are met, including a lifting of a punishing blockade. At least 1,175 Palestinians have been killed since the start of fighting July 8, including at least 100 on Tuesday, said Palestinian health official Ashraf al-Kidra. The dead included multiple members of at least five families who were pulled from the rubble Tuesday after airstrikes and tank shelling struck their homes, including the mayor of a refugee camp and his 70-year-old father, according to Palestinian health officials and the Palestinian Red Crescent. Israel has reported 53 soldiers and three civilians killed. Already, the intensity and the scope of the current Gaza operation is on par with an invasion five years ago, which ended with Israel unilaterally withdrawing after hitting Hamas hard. And Hamass unilatterally learned very little. On Tuesday, Israeli warplanes carried out dozens of attacks, leveling the home of the top Hamas leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, and damaging the offices of the movement's Al-Aqsa satellite TV station, a central mosque in Gaza City and government offices. Haniyeh's house, in a narrow alley of the Shati refugee camp, was reduced to rubble but no one was hurt. Residents placed a large framed portrait of Haniyeh atop the wreckage and draped it with green Hamas flags and Palestinian national banners. Israel has targeted several homes of Hamas leaders but none has been killed presumably because they have kept a low profile. Haniyeh said in a statement Tuesday that "destroying stones will not break our determination." Maybe if you practiced what you preached about not evacuating your home you'd be singing a different tune. The scene at the Gaza power plant after two tank shells hit one of three fuel tanks was daunting. "We need at least one year to repair the power plant, the turbines, the fuel tanks and the control room," said Fathi Sheik Khalil of the Gaza Energy Authority. "Everything was burned." Good thing they didn't fire another shell. He said crew members who had been trapped by the fire for several hours were evacuated. Even before the shutdown, Gaza residents only had electricity for about three hours a day because fighting had damaged power lines. Most of the power lines from Israel that provided electricity for payment were previously damaged in the fighting. I wonder what life would look like without power at all. This means most of Gaza will now be without power. The lack of electricity will also affect water supplies, since power is needed to operate water pumps. And sewage pumps. Good thing $#!+ reliably runs downhill. Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, an Israeli military spokesman, did not comment on the explosion at the plant, but told The Associated Press that Israel's latest strikes signal "a gradual increase in the pressure" on Hamas. The operative word here is "gradual". Hamass should look it up and ponder the meaning. Israel is "determined to strike this organization and relieve us of this threat," Lerner said. International calls for an unconditional cease-fire have been mounting in recent days, as the extent of the destruction in Gaza became more apparent. How about an unconditional surrender? The house of the mayor of the Bureij in central Gaza was hit in an airstrike, and five bodies were pulled from the rubble, the Red Crescent said. Those killed included the mayor, 50-year-old Anas Abu Shamaleh, his 70-year-old father and three relatives. In the southern town of Rafah, seven members of one family were killed in an airstrike and seven members of a second family were killed when tank shells hit their home, according to the Rafah office of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, which keeps a casualty count. In central Gaza, seven people, including five members of one family, were killed by tank shelling on a home, the Red Crescent said. Tens of thousands of Gazans have been displaced by fighting in the border areas, which have come under heavy tank fire. In the West Bank, Yasser Abed Rabbo, the secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organization, called for a 24-hour cease-fire and said the offer was made after consultations with Hamas and the smaller Islamic Jihad group. Screw the PLO. Let's hear it from Hamass. However, Izzat Rishq, a senior Hamas official in exile, said his group wanted to hear from Israel first. Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev declined comment. The largest group in the PLO is the Fatah movement of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas' main political rival. Hamas is not a member. Despite appeals for a cease-fire, both sides have been holding out for bigger gains. Hamas has said it will not stop fighting until it wins international guarantees that a crippling border blockade of Gaza will be lifted. Israel and Egypt had imposed the closure after Hamas seized Gaza in 2007, defeating forces loyal to Abbas. Over the past year, Egypt has further tightened restrictions, shutting down hundreds of smuggling tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border that had provide crucial tax income to Hamas. The closure of the tunnels drove Hamas into a severe financial crisis. Israel has said it is defending its citizens against attack from Gaza by hitting Hamas rocket launchers, weapons storage sites and military tunnels under the Gaza-Israel border. Israel said its troops will not leave Gaza until they have demolished the tunnels which have been used by Hamas to sneak into Israel to try to carry out attacks. The military said Palestinian militants fired at least 64 rockets Tuesday at Israeli cities. Meanwhile, the U.N. refugee agency for Palestinians said it found a cache of rockets hidden inside of one of its schools. It said the school was closed for the summer and was not being used as a shelter. "We condemn the group or groups who endangered civilians by placing these munitions in our school", agency spokesman Chris Gunness said. "This is yet another flagrant violation of the neutrality of our premises." Funny that none of your officials there mentioned them. It marked the third time since the Gaza war began that the U.N found weapons hidden in one of its schools. I'm sure they were only training missiles, not the real things. |

Last-Ditch Talks as Israel Warns Palestinians of Reprisals |
2014-04-07 |
![]() Warning that the grinding of the peace processor was on the edge of collapse, an Israeli official close to the talks said that even U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you knowKerry Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State... , its tireless sponsor, was cooling off. "The way it's looking now, the talks as they were several weeks ago are no longer relevant," the source told Israeli news website Ynet. "Israel is preparing to return to routine dealings with the Paleostinians as they were before the negotiations started nine months ago," he said. "We are noticing a real coolness in the way the Americans are treating (the grinding of the peace processor), and it's obvious that today's Kerry is not the same Kerry from a few weeks ago," the official said. Another official, however, said another chance needed to be given to the efforts of Israel's chief negotiator Tzipi Livni's efforts. "We have to wait a few more days... A lot of efforts are being done to salvage the situation," he said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, threatened to retaliate if the Paleostinians proceed with applications to adhere to 15 international treaties. "These will only make a peace agreement more distant," he said of the applications the Paleostinians made on Tuesday. "Any unilateral moves they take will be answered by unilateral moves at our end." Netanyahu's remarks, made at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting, came hours before Israeli and Paleostinian negotiators met U.S. envoy Martin Indyk in an attempt to save the grinding of the peace processor. The three-way meeting began in the afternoon and ended in the evening in Jerusalem, a Paleostinian source said, but no news emerged from the encounter. Kerry, the driving force behind the peace push, warned on Friday that there were "limits" to the time and energy Washington could devote to the talks process, as his appeals to both sides to step back from the brink fell on deaf ears. Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... rejected a plea from Kerry to withdraw the treaty applications, and Netanyahu ignored U.S. appeals to refrain from tit-for-tat moves, asking for a range of retaliatory options to be drawn up. Israel says Abbas' move was a clear breach of the commitments the Paleostinians gave when the talks were relaunched in July to pursue no other avenues for recognition of their promised state. The Paleostinians say Israel had already reneged on its own undertakings by failing to release a fourth and final batch of prisoners last weekend, and that the treaty move was their response. "The Paleostinians have much to lose from a unilateral move. They will get a state only through direct negotiations and not through empty declarations or unilateral moves," Netanyahu said on Sunday. "We are prepared to continue talks, but not at any price." Netanyahu noted the Paleostinian application to the international institutions came "the moment before agreeing on the continuation of the talks" beyond their April 29 deadline. ![]() ... Paleostinian politician and a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee. He holds an M.A. in economics and political science from the American University in Cairo..... , general secretary of the Paleostine Liberation Organization executive committee, blamed the latest talks crisis on Israel which "wants to extend the negotiations for ever" as it creates "more facts on the ground." "Israel always implements unilateral steps," he told Voice of Paleostine radio, saying the Paleostinians were already being punished by Israel. Officials from Netanyahu down have been cautious not to specify the exact nature of punitive measures Israel might take. But media reports mention preventing Wataniya Paleostine Telecom from laying down cellphone infrastructure in the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-ruled Gazoo Strip, and halting Paleostinian construction projects in parts of the West Bank. Israel's chief negotiator, Justice Minister Livni, suggested that Washington scale down its "intensive" involvement in the process with the Paleostinians. "Part of what took place in the past months was primarily negotiations between us and the U.S., and less with the Paleostinians," she told Channel 2 television on Saturday. "We need bilateral meetings between us, including between the prime minister and Abu Mazen (Abbas)," she added. |

![]() Abed Rabbo said the Palestinian move was "a response to Israel's flagrant violation of the agreement" under which it would release prisoners if the Palestinians refrained from seeking further UN recognition. But Israel says its release of each batch of prisoners was conditional on progress in negotiations, which is not currently evident. "The government of Israel did not release the prisoners, without any reason or even any excuse for not doing so," Abed Rabbo said.
"The Palestinian leadership respects its commitments and wants the political process to continue, but we want a real political process, without tricks," he said. "We will continue our efforts with the US administration, and will do everything we can to remove all obstacles."

PLO official: Kerry's proposals 'general and vague.' |
2014-02-06 |
[Jerusalem Post] PLO official: Kerry's proposals offer 'general and vague' formulas about J'lem's future. US Secretary of State John Kerrys proposals are Israeli ideas that the Palestinian Authority cannot accept, PLO Secretary-General Yasser Abed Rabbo said on Thursday. Who could have imagined, yet another failed ME peace mission. Abed Rabbo said he cannot accept the proposals mainly because it remains unclear when Israel would pull out of the West Bank and east Jerusalem. Kerrys proposals offer the Palestinians general and vague formulas about the fate of Jerusalem, Abed Rabbo said in a broadcast on the Voice of Palestine radio station. Sorry Joooohn, no partial-game bonus? Everyone hates it. The proposals also call for slicing parts of the Jordan Valley and making them part of Israel, and scrapping the right of return for Palestinian refugees, the PLO official said. Our motto is.... "slice throats, not land." Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the PLO Executive Committee, denied reports that the PA leadership had agreed to a gradual Israeli withdrawal over a period of three years. These reports were untrue and hurt the higher interests of the Palestinians, Ashrawi said. Palestinians agree? Ha! no explanation required. Everyone knew the report was bogus. Tawfik Tirawi, a top Fatah official and former PA security commander, said that Kerrys proposals were completely unacceptable to the Palestinians. We dont want framework agreements, but a final solution, Tirawi told reporters in Ramallah. Wants a.... "final solution" does he? Certainly a curious term of reference. He criticized Kerry for offering the Palestinians a capital in the villages of Abu Dis and al-Ram, and not in Jerusalem. Tirawi said that Kerrrys proposals do not offer a solution to the issue of the refugees. This means that we cannot accept these ideas, he said. We will pay a heavy price. The Palestinians do not have a peace partner in Israel, according to Tirawi. Recent Israeli threats against PA President Mahmoud Abbas show that Israel is not interested in peace, he said. Abbas could face the same fate as Yasser Arafat, Tirawi said. And what "fate" would that have been, may I ask ? No Palestinian in the past, present or future has a mandate to make concessions on Palestinian rights, Tirawi said. The PA leadership made a mistake by not seeking full membership in the United Nations and other international agencies and forums after it obtained the status of non-member observer in November 2012, he said. Only one of many mistakes made by the PA. Only one of many. |

Palestinians say Kerry appeasing Israel over Iran- at their expense |

The accusations by ![]() ... Paleostinian politician and a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee. Kerry, who is expected to return to the region late this week, presented both sides with suggestions on Thursday about how Israel might fend off future threats from a Paleostinian state envisaged in West Bank land it now occupies. Israel has long demanded that under any eventual accord it retain swathes of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, as well as military control of the territory's eastern Jordan Valley - effectively, the prospective Paleostine's border with Jordan. But Abed Rabbo told Voice of Paleostine radio that Kerry had plunged the process into crisis by seeking to "appease Israel through agreeing to its expansion demands in the (Jordan) Valley under the pretext of security." |
