's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egypt's intelligence chief Abbas Kamel in Doha to discuss the latest developments in Gaza.

Talks have so far failed to reach a deal to end the 11-month-old war. Lingering issue include control of the Philadelphi corridor, a narrow stretch of land on Gaza's border with Egypt, persisting.

CIA Director William Burns, who is also the chief US negotiator on Gaza, said on Saturday that a more detailed ceasefire proposal would be made in the next several days.
The Times of Israel:
The Hamas statement said the terror group group remains committed to implementing a ceasefire based on the original US proposal and won’t accept new conditions from any party, an apparent reference to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s insistence on Israeli troops maintaining positions on the Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border.

The statement made no mention of reported new Hamas demands to free prisoners serving life sentences in exchange for the first group of hostages that include, women children, the sick and the elderly.

CIA Director William Burns, who is also the chief US negotiator on Gaza, said on Saturday that a more detailed ceasefire proposal would be made in the next several days.

The original proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden in June laid out a three-phase ceasefire for ending the war sparked by Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught in return for the release of Israeli hostages.

Meanwhile, the Kan public broadcaster reported that Cairo believes Netanyahu’s stance on the Philadelpi route is “a political maneuver that will pass with time,” citing a source familiar with the talks.

The report added that Egypt was therefore not weighing any drastic moves, despite it’s anger at Netanyahu.

Mediators have said that Israel’s deployment in the Philadelphi Corridor is the main remaining obstacles to a deal, along with issues surrounding the release of Palestinian security prisoners.

Further harming the process is Hamas’s recent execution of six Israeli hostages, a US official said last week, explaining that they had been negotiating based on a list of hostages that has since shrunk.

It is believed that 97 of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7 remain in Gaza, including the bodies of at least 33 confirmed dead by the IDF.

German FM says 'purely military approach' not the solution in Gaza; CIA, MI6 urge Israeli ‘compromises’ to get hostages back, detailed ceasefire proposal imminent
2024-09-08
[GEOTV] German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Friday that a military approach alone was not the solution to Israel's war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
It took all-out war to drive out the Nazis, but that’s different somehow.
"The past weekend has dramatically demonstrated that a purely military approach is no solution to the situation in Gaza," she told reporters after meeting with her Israeli counterpart Israel Katz in the coastal Israeli city of Tel Aviv.
That's what they always said about the Tamil Tigers, too. Anybody remember them?

Everybody is full of advice for those stupid juices:
CIA, MI6 chiefs urge truce-hostage deal; Burns calls for ‘hard political compromises’

[IsraelTimes] As new proposal being finalized, spymasters issue unprecedented joint plea for ceasefire to end Gaza civilians’ ‘appalling loss of life’ and hostages’ ‘hellish confinement’.

CIA director says more detailed Gaza ceasefire proposal due in days
[GEOTV] CIA Director William Burns, the chief US negotiator trying to help secure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages by Hamas, said a more detailed proposal on the ceasefire would be made in the coming days.

"We will make this more detailed proposal, I hope in the next several days, and then we'll see," Burns said at an FT event in London on Saturday.

'Cleaning Up the Crypto Market.' Why the US Is Up in arms about Pavel Durov
2024-08-30
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Ivan Lizan

[REGNUM] Telegram founder Pavel Durov was accused in France of failing to counteract the distribution of criminal content via the messenger. He was placed under judicial supervision and ordered to post bail of 5 million euros. In addition, Durov was banned from leaving France and required to report to the police twice a week.

In general, the 12 articles of the criminal code, incriminated to Pavel Durov by the French prosecutor's office, are as severe as they are absurd. Similar charges can be brought against Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk or Sergey Brin and Larry Page together.

It is obvious that in a normal – competitive, fair and impartial – trial the charges against Durov will fall apart. But in this case Paris is acting together with Brussels and Washington, and Durov should not hope for justice. And it is even more obvious to everyone that the matter is clearly not in the lack of desire of the Telegram founder to satisfy the requests of French law enforcement.

In addition to the official reason for Durov's detention, which boils down to maliciously ignoring Telegram requests from law enforcement agencies, there is a whole bunch of complementary unofficial ones. All of them look no less plausible.

Firstly, the US desire to destroy the Toncoin (TON) cryptocurrency, which Durov launched against the will of Washington.

Secondly, Brussels’ desire to force Telegram to create a pre-moderation system, that is, censoring content in accordance with the wishes of European bureaucrats.

Thirdly, but this reason is almost impossible to prove, there was probably a motive to gain access to encryption keys for secret correspondence in the messenger for the purpose of using them in domestic political struggle or espionage.

Due to Pavel Durov's diverse interests, these reasons should be considered together: they certainly do not contradict each other. Moreover, while French President Emmanuel Macron may indeed be concerned about the fight against crime and, say, the desire to spy on his allies and opponents, Brussels is much more concerned with censorship than maintaining law and order. And the United States has been paying close attention to cryptocurrencies for several years now in order to prevent the erosion of the global financial system.

In general, Durov was “caught” under a combination of articles, and they charged him with whatever they could.

MALICIOUS DISREGARD
Durov's philosophy is based on libertarianism: he does not feel any reverence for the state in principle.

He criticized the Russian past back at the turn of the 2000s and 2010s, and in 2014, if we are to believe Durov, he was asked to provide personal data of the organizers of the Euromaidan groups. Pavel refused, not “wanting to betray millions of Ukrainian users,” and suffered three times: in 2014, he lost control over the social network, in 2017, Petro Poroshenko blocked VKontakte in Ukraine, and from 2018 to 2020, Roskomnadzor blocked Telegram.

In 2017, French intelligence services, together with UAE intelligence (Durov holds passports from these countries), hacked Pavel's iPhone to gain access to the correspondence of ISIS terrorists (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). The countries took this step, as The Wall Street Journal writes, because the messenger administration maliciously ignored requests from law enforcement agencies.

In 2023, Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered Telegram blocked for refusing to provide data on the administrators of neo-Nazi groups accused of attacking a school in Aracruz. And after Pavel’s arrest, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol called for a thorough investigation into digital sex crimes after media reported that Telegram chats were frequently filled with erotic fake images and videos featuring South Korean women.

In general, Durov ignored law enforcement agencies for a long time and systematically. He cooperated only in rare cases, for which he was blocked in China, Iran, India and Brazil, as well as Spain (for three days). The authorities of France (in 2023), the Netherlands and Germany complained about the messenger.

Therefore, no matter how strange it may seem, Durov could have been detained for simply ignoring requests - sooner or later, law enforcement officials would have run out of patience. But this is only true in the case of France, since there are indeed plenty of oddities in the case.

UNCOORDINATED CRYPTO PROJECTS
Durov is also annoying Washington, but he has his own reasons, which may not be connected with ignoring requests and refusing to introduce censorship.

The Durov brothers, Pavel and Nikolai, initially developed Telegram as a messenger, but messengers are extremely difficult to monetize. The subscription model is not suitable because it scares the audience, selling additional features is ineffective, and advertising in Telegram only appeared in the fall of 2021 - 8 years after its launch.

But advertising for the Durov brothers was nothing more than a "crutch". In early 2018, Telegram announced plans to launch the TON blockchain platform. To do this, Telegram Group Inc. and its subsidiary TON Issuer sold 2.9 billion tokens and raised $1.7 billion. The project was initially scheduled to launch in October 2019, but the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) obtained a temporary injunction. It considered Telegram's actions to violate US securities laws.

In the end, Durov promised to return 72% of the attracted money immediately, and promised to give 110% of the invested funds to those who were patient by April 30. Investors, mainly from Russia, agreed to Durov's terms and were satisfied. The brothers found the money, the financial issue was settled. For the time being, the cryptocurrency project was put aside.

But the idea of "marrying" the messenger's nearly billion-strong audience with cryptocurrency was too attractive to refuse. And in September 2023, Durov presented the TON blockchain, in particular the Toncoin cryptocurrency, which, according to him, was planned to be used on a regular basis by businesses and developers in Telegram. The cryptocurrency was created by an open community of developers. As a result, the Durovs gave birth to a monster.

TON is not just a cryptocurrency, but also a set of services: proxy servers and a domain name system, a marketplace, a commission-free blockchain-based payment system, decentralized data storage, and applications for working with the service.

Even after Durov's arrest, TON did not fall out of the top 10 global cryptocurrencies, although it lost a little more than 20% of its value: shortly before the arrest, the coin was worth $6.8, and by the morning of August 29, it was worth $5.3.

ARREST BY OTHER PEOPLE'S HANDS
Against this background, a reasonable question arises: why is Washington angry with Durov?

Firstly, TON is built on the same libertarian philosophy as Telegram. It is inconvenient for the US and is not controlled by Washington. Pavel Durov reported this back in 2020, stating the world's dependence on the US in matters of finance and technology.

There has long been a legend in the world of cryptocurrency enthusiasts that Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, whose identity is unknown, is in fact nothing more than a cover for the CIA or another American structure that invented cryptocurrency. There is no direct confirmation of this, but in the Western press there are quotes from CIA Director William Burns that he inherited from his predecessors "a number of projects focused on cryptocurrency."

Regardless of whether the CIA invented the “bitcoin” or not, American intelligence agencies would certainly do everything possible and impossible to control any cryptocurrency, at least to understand who pays for what and when.

Secondly, cryptocurrencies - especially after Russia was disconnected from the global financial system with the blocking of banks and the ability to use freely convertible currencies - have become a widely used means of payment for settlements with unfriendly jurisdictions. And recently, they have also been legalized. And while Washington is fighting banks quite successfully (especially after Biden's decree of December 22, 2023), things are not so clear with cryptocurrencies.

The largest crypto exchange Binance left Russia under duress in September 2023 — this is how the US fought against circumventing sanctions through cryptocurrencies. But at the same time, and often unnoticed by the media, the US fought against cryptocurrency projects launched by Russians.

Cryptocurrency consultant Mikhail Zhukhovitsky counted six cases when the US directly or indirectly — through France and the UAE — destroyed Russian cryptocurrency projects, some of those arrested were extradited to the US. For example, the only developer of the Tornado Cash project who remained at large survived only because he was in Russia. And in the Bitzlato project, even coders and marketers were imprisoned, and they have been awaiting trial in pretrial detention for two years.

On August 25, Zhukhovitsky wrote that Pavel's arrest was the beginning of the destruction of his team, and on August 28, Politico reported that Nikolai Durov had been placed on the wanted list and was accused of refusing to cooperate with the Paris prosecutor's office for combating cybercrime in a case of forcing a minor to distribute "self-produced pornography."

Zhukhovitsky claims that the indictment for such cases is always prepared in the United States, and the arrests and detentions are carried out by others.

ONE AGAINST ALL
To put it simply, Durov's fate is unenviable: Paris, Brussels and Washington are against him. And the conclusions that come to mind from this story are extremely simple. Pavel Durov was let down by his own commitment to libertarianism, along with his belief that he could be above the clash of great powers.

One can maneuver between centers of power only for a certain period of time. Sooner or later one would have to make a decision, choosing a side that would allow one to preserve most of one's convictions, in order to live by the principle of "bend, but don't bend." The side is the "roof" in the person of the state.

When Canada detained Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's CFO and daughter of Huawei President Ren Zhengfei, at the request of the United States in 2018, the Chinese government stepped in and secured her release. Russia stood up for Bout, Yaroshenko, and Krasikov and also secured their release.

Durov ignored the "rules of the game" and did not want to choose a "roof". Now there is no one to stand up for him - and this is his personal tragedy.

Stop Israel. Netanyahu rejected Biden's plan and made him look like a liar
2024-06-04
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Gevorg Mirzayan

[REGNUM] On the first day of summer, US President Joe Biden announced details of a plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The head of the White House emphasized that the document was proposed by the Israeli authorities, and they have already transferred it to the Hamas movement through representatives of Qatar.

The plan involves three stages. In the first, within six weeks, all Israeli forces must be withdrawn from the populated areas of Gaza, and 600 trucks with humanitarian aid will enter the Strip itself daily. In addition, Hamas must "release a number of hostages, including women, the elderly and the wounded, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners."

At the second stage, after negotiations held against the backdrop of a ceasefire, no matter how long they last, it is planned to “exchange all living hostages, including male soldiers.” And if Hamas fulfills its obligations, the document states, the temporary truce will turn into a permanent ceasefire.

In the third stage, a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza will be adopted and the bodies of the dead hostages will be returned.

The proposals voiced are not new, explains IA Regnum international political scientist, RIAC expert Elena Suponina. The points that have been discussed for several months under the leadership of CIA Director William Burns together with his colleagues from Egypt, Israel and Palestine are practically repeated, the expert adds.

“What is new is that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has finally begun to understand that his goals in the Gaza Strip, including the complete destruction of radical groups, cannot be completely achieved, as opposition representatives, former prime ministers Ehud Barak and Ehud initially said Olmert,” says Suponina.

At the same time, Biden is positioning the plan as a victory for Israel, since, in his opinion, Tel Aviv has already achieved “realistic goals” during the military operation.

“At the moment, Hamas is no longer capable of organizing another October 7th, and depriving it of such opportunities was one of Israel’s main goals in this war. Fair goals, in general,” said the American president.

The Palestinians, however, do not think so - but agreed with the plan.

“The Biden plan is generally beneficial to Hamas: the movement proposed approximately the same scheme,” international political scientist Abbas Juma told IA Regnum in a commentary.

"ISRAEL DOESN'T WANT TO STOP, BUT IT CAN BE STOPPED"
Hamas officials said the movement is "ready to work constructively with any proposal that is based on a permanent truce, complete withdrawal of troops from Gaza, reconstruction of the strip and the return of temporarily displaced persons." Hamas is also ready to “complete a serious prisoner exchange” if Israel agrees to it.

At the same time, in Israel itself, despite Netanyahu’s supposed consent, fermentation began. At first, the prime minister's aides said that the plan was creaky, but they accepted it. Then the Prime Minister actually rejected him.

“The war will not end until we achieve all our goals, including the return of all our hostages, as well as the destruction of Hamas’s military and administrative capabilities,” the prime minister said, casting doubt on Biden’s words that Israel proposed the plan.

Because of this, Biden is being called a liar.

“ Biden is already accustomed to Netanyahu’s humiliation. In early May, he warned that if the IDF entered Rafah, it would not supply weapons to the Israelis.

Three weeks later, Israeli tanks entered central and western Rafah. After this, Biden administration officials decided to define what it means to “enter Rafah,” writes the British publication The Guardian.

There are also opinions that Netanyahu may pay for what he said.

“Israel has already said it has accepted the deal. If he abandons it now, it will be a death sentence for the hostages and will cause a crisis of confidence in relations with the Americans and intermediary countries,” says Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid.

At the same time, stopping now for Israel is tantamount to defeat and shame, followed by irreversible political processes, Abbas Juma believes.

“Israel is not capable of stopping, but it can be stopped. The Americans can do this - by force, by blackmail. But all this will turn out to be meaningless if the United States does not take a number of real steps, letting Israeli politicians understand that tomorrow Washington may no longer help,” says the international political scientist.

Biden, the expert recalled, openly called on the Israelis to disobey Netanyahu.

"I need your help. “Everyone who wants peace must speak out about it now and convince your leaders to accept the deal,” the head of the White House said.

New coalition as Netanyahu's salvation
The Israeli prime minister with his ambitions has long been considered the main obstacle to peace. But by “leaders,” Biden now means not only Netanyahu, but also the far-right members of his cabinet.

“The Israeli prime minister's political career is in the hands of far-right coalition members who say they will quit if Netanyahu agrees to a ceasefire,” writes The Guardian.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir have already announced their readiness to leave the cabinet - in their understanding, the war should continue until Hamas is destroyed.

The possible withdrawal of ministers from the coalition is a big problem for Netanyahu.

Smotrich’s party has 7 seats in the Knesset, Ben Gvir’s has 6. In general, the government coalition has 64 seats out of 120. Yes, Yair Lapid (who has 17 seats in the Knesset) has already made it clear that he is theoretically ready to compensate for the 13 who drop out of the coalition far-right mandates. But first, it will make Netanyahu dependent on his political rival. Secondly, Lapid may change his mind.

“Netanyahu is now discussing with other Israeli politicians the possibility of creating a new coalition. However, the negotiations are not easy: many Israeli politicians have previously worked with Netanyahu, and some do not want to repeat this experience. They just don't trust him. But Netanyahu will not implement the plan alone,” Elena Suponina is convinced.

BIDEN IS NOT A DECREE
Thus, the fate of the “Biden peace plan” depends not only on American pressure, but also on the outcome of internal political negotiations in Israel. Netanyahu cannot remain without a coalition majority under any circumstances—his resignation will inevitably entail criminal prosecution. Therefore, it is possible that if negotiations with Lapid and other opposition leaders do not succeed, Netanyahu will continue the war.

And he will even try to enlist the support of pro-Israeli forces in the United States (Netanyahu is due to speak before Congress in the near future). That is, says Abbas Juma, he will hope for a favorable outcome of the elections in the United States and that he will be able to finish off the Palestinians.

Simply because he has no other choice.

“Yes, the Netanyahu government in Gaza has driven itself into a strategic impasse, and the Americans are offering at least some way out. However, it is very difficult for Netanyahu to exit through this door. This is largely due to his personal ambitions and the future of his government,” summarizes Elena Suponina.

What is Hamas Hiding in Rafah, and Why Doesn't Biden Want the IDF to Find It?
2024-06-02
[Townhall] In the lead up to the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) operation to destroy Hamas and secure the release of over 100 hostages — including 8 Americas — believed to be in and around Rafah, leaders around the world from Joe Biden to the collective leftist leaders of the European Union to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi panicked and ordered Israel to forestall its necessary means to end the war.

Why did world leaders clamor for Israel to do nothing?

What are they hiding?

It turns out they are hiding a lot.

...Meanwhile, Israel continued to negotiate through the "good" offices of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar for the release of hostages. Out of thin air, on May 6 Hamas agreed to the ceasefire terms. Only, what actually happened was that the terms they agreed to were not the negotiated terms that the US, Qatar, and Israel had seen. Indeed, Egypt edited the ceasefire terms in such a way that Hamas would get a "win" and say they accepted the terms, but the terms, as edited, were outrageous. Even the even-keeled US negotiator, CIA Chief William Burns, was mystified and outraged. What kind of nonsense game was Egypt playing? Cairo pulled a bait-and-switch on the Israelis and the other negotiators ensuring that, needless to say, negotiations broke down.

On the IDF’s first day of entry into Rafah in mid-May they discovered hundreds of tunnels with over 50 two-way underground tunnels between Rafah and Egypt. Dozens more cross-border tunnels have been discovered since, along the Rafah-Egypt border. Some tunnels were paved and wide enough for passage of full-sized cargo trucks.

...Egypt built a formidable border wall, something Donald Trump could not even imagine in a fever dream for America. It is impenetrable, militarized, and closely guarded with Egyptian troops and security forces. The way through it for Gazans seeking to get out of Gaza? Baksheesh. Upwards of $5,000 per person. It has also been a gateway for international aid and smuggling into Gaza resulting in over $88 million in profit to the holder of the border keys.

The holder of those keys is a Bedouin tribal leader named Ibrahim al-Organi, now the wealthiest man in northern Sinai. But how could an ex-con smuggler rise to a position of border control prince? Through connections to the Egyptian government, Organi has cultivated extremely close ties with Egyptian President al-Sisi, and more significantly, with al-Sisi’s son, Mahmoud. General Mahmoud al-Sisi is the Deputy Chief of Egyptian intelligence and he sits on Organi’s board. It’s good to have friends in high places, and in the case of Organi, it has made him, and those in his network, very wealthy.
And, just like Hunter, Mahmoud splits with the big guy?
Every day there is additional evidence of Egyptian smuggling in Gaza. Intelligence on May 31, 2024 uncovered surface to air missiles smuggled into Rafah from Egypt. The large cache purportedly would have been used to take down IDF helicopters. How much money changed hands for Egypt to have turned a blind eye (or been complicit) in these types of smuggling operations?

...Recently, following Israel’s successful surgical strike in Rafah to eliminate two terrorist masterminds, a humanitarian safe area caught fire and several civilians were killed. Hamas’s publicity hacks blamed Israel's strike. The IDF undertook an investigation which uncovered that the fire ignited over 1.7 kilometers from the IDF strike and was not caused by their action. Rather there was an ordnance storage facility in Rafah abutting the humanitarian zone and there were explosions in the stockpile that caused the fire. Hamas purposely stored highly combustible ammunition alongside a humanitarian zone for civilians.

The ordnance themselves were quite interesting. It turns out many were US-manufactured munitions that had been sold to Egypt. With Israel now in control over the entire Gaza-Egypt border area, it is all but certain that more evidence of Egyptian smuggling of American-made weapons and possible collusion with Hamas will unfold. What will happen to the US-Egypt relationship as a result?

...What is becoming obvious is that there were a lot of reasons for Egypt and America to want Israel to remain outside of Rafah. The secrets that will be revealed through the IDF’s operations may well surprise the civilized world as Israel fights to defeat the barbarians.

Trading With the Enemy
2024-04-23
[HERSH] The Ukraine government, headed by Volodymyr Zelensky, has been using American taxpayers’ funds to pay dearly for the vitally needed diesel fuel that is keeping the Ukrainian army on the move in its war with Russia. It is unknown how much the Zelensky government is paying per gallon for the fuel, but the Pentagon was paying as much as $400 per gallon to transport gasoline from a port in Pakistan, via truck or parachute, into Afghanistan during the decades-long American war there.

What also is unknown is that Zelensky has been buying the fuel from Russia, the country with which it, and Washington, are at war, and the Ukrainian president and many in his entourage have been skimming untold millions from the American dollars earmarked for diesel fuel payments. One estimate by analysts from the Central Intelligence Agency put the embezzled funds at $400 million last year, at least; another expert compared the level of corruption in Kiev as approaching that of the Afghan war, "although there will be no professional audit reports emerging from the Ukraine."

"Zelensky’s been buying discount diesel from the Russians," one knowledgeable American intelligence official told me. "And who’s paying for the gas and oil? We are. Putin and his oligarchs are making millions" on it.

Many government ministries in Kiev have been literally "competing," I was told, to set up front companies for export contracts for weapons and ammunition with private arms dealers around the world, all of which provide kickbacks. Many of those companies are in Poland and Czechia, but others are thought to exist in the Persian Gulf and Israel. "I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are others in places like the Cayman Islands and Panama, and there are lots of Americans involved," an American expert on international trade told me.

The issue of corruption was directly raised with Zelensky in a meeting last January in Kiev with CIA Director William Burns. His message to the Ukrainian president, I was told by an intelligence official with direct knowledge of the meeting, was out of a 1950s mob movie. The senior generals and government officials in Kiev were angry at what they saw as Zelensky’s greed, so Burns told the Ukrainian president, because "he was taking a larger share of the skim money than was going to the generals."

Joe Biden Approved Iran's Assault on Israel 'Within Certain Limits'
2024-04-15
[Jpost] Iran informed Turkey in advance of its planned operation against Israel, conveyed through diplomatic channels, aiming to limit escalation in the Middle East.

Iran informed Turkey in advance of its planned operation against Israel, a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters on Sunday, adding that Washington had conveyed to Tehran via Ankara that any action it took had to be "within certain limits."

Turkey, which has denounced Israel for its campaign on Gaza, said earlier on Sunday that it did not want a further escalation of tensions in the region.

The Turkish source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had spoken to both his US and Iranian counterparts in the past week to discuss the planned Iranian operation, adding Ankara had been made aware of possible developments.

MIDDLE EAST DE-ESCALATION EFFORTS
Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to Fidan to make clear that escalation in the Middle East was not in anyone's interest.

"Iran informed us in advance of what would happen. Possible developments also came up during the meeting with Blinken, and they (the US) conveyed to Iran through us that this reaction must be within certain limits," the source said.

"In response, Iran said the reaction would be a response to Israel's attack on its embassy in Damascus and that it would not go beyond this."

Iran, which neighbours Turkey, had vowed retaliation for what it called an alleged Israeli strike on its Damascus consulate on April 1 that killed seven officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Turkey's foreign ministry later confirmed the contacts in a statement, saying Ankara had called for restraint and warned of a regional war if tensions escalated further.

It said Ankara would continue efforts to prevent further conflict and escalation in the region.

A Turkish security source said CIA chief William Burns had spoken to Ibrahim Kalin, head of Turkey's MIT intelligence agency, over the Eid al-Fitr holidays and asked him to act as a "mediator" in the Israel-Iran tensions.

The two discussed ceasefire efforts in Gaza as well, the source said, without elaborating.

Federalist update: House Republicans Probe CIA Interference In Hunter Biden Investigation
2024-03-25
[Federalist] House Republicans are demanding answers from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after a whistleblower came forward with allegations of agency interference to thwart investigations into Hunter Biden.

On Thursday, the GOP chairmen of the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees sent CIA Director William Burns a letter seeking records related to claims the CIA acted with the Department of Justice to protect President Joe Biden and his son.

"The information we recently received from the whistleblower seems to corroborate our concerns about DOJ’s deviations from standard process to provide Hunter Biden with preferential treatment," lawmakers wrote. "According to the whistleblower, in August 2021, when IRS investigators were preparing to interview Patrick Kevin Morris, an associate of Hunter Biden, the CIA intervened to stop the interview."

"Two DOJ officials were allegedly summoned to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia for a briefing regarding Mr. Morris," lawmakers added. "At that meeting, it was communicated that Mr. Morris could not be a witness during the investigation."

Over 170 gunmen killed, 800 suspects captured in ongoing Shifa Hospital raid — IDF

[IsraelTimes] Troops locate terror infrastructure, weapons at medical center; WHO chair says facility has become inaccessible; IAF strikes 35 sites across Strip over past day

City’s Shifa Hospital.
The IDF first cleared the hospital a month ago or more, then waited for it to fill up again with bad guys before hitting it a second time. Kind of like setting up a deer stand overlooking a salt lick…
In the raid, which began early Monday and is being led by the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit and the 401st Armored Brigade, the IDF said troops located infrastructure belonging to terror groups and caches of weapons.

According to World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the medical site has become inaccessible due to the fighting.

On social media, he shared a harrowing account from a doctor there, who said two patients on life support had died from lack of electricity, while others at death's door were lying on the floor.

"These conditions are utterly inhumane," Tedros wrote. "We call for an immediate end to the siege."

International law stipulates that while a medical facility is a protected site, it loses that status if it is used for military activity, as Israel alleges Hamas has done on a large scale.

The question of a ground offensive on the city has become a matter of dispute between Israel and Washington.

"We have no way to defeat Hamas without getting into Rafah and eliminating the battalions that are left there," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday.

Netanyahu has said the IDF will evacuate the civilians to areas north of Rafah before beginning the operation and has approved the military’s plans for the offensive.

argued an invasion of Rafah was "not the way to achieve" that aim, and warned starkly that it would risk more civilian fatalities, undermine aid assistance, risk greater isolation for Israel and endanger its security and international standing.

US officials say the number of aid deliveries via land needs to increase fast and that aid needs to be sustained over a long period. Israel says it is not restricting aid, and has blamed the deteriorating humanitarian situation on aid agencies’ failure to distribute supplies.

"We have the same goals as Israel: the defeat of Hamas," the top American diplomat wrote on X, after meeting with Netanyahu on Friday. "Next week I will meet again with Israeli officials in Washington to discuss a different way we can achieve this objective."

"Hard disagree," wrote Democratic Senator John Fetterman on X, in response to Blinken’s charge that Israel would become isolated. "Israel shouldn’t face isolation when Hamas snuffies are still present and hiding behind civilians.

"Hamas owns this humanitarian catastrophe and must surrender, release the hostages NOW, or be eliminated," added Fetterman, who has been a vocal supporter of Israel since the war erupted.

CIA blocked feds from interviewing Hunter Biden's ‘sugar brother' Kevin Morris during five-year tax probe
2024-03-22
[NY Post] The CIA blocked federal investigators from interviewing Hunter Biden’s “sugar brother” Kevin Morris during a five-year probe into the first son’s alleged tax crimes, a whistleblower has told House impeachment leaders.
Hunter's 60 trips abroad on USG aircraft, sans bags check. What does it all mean ?
House Oversight and Judiciary Committee chairmen say the whistleblower informed them the intelligence agency stopped IRS and Justice Department investigators from interviewing Morris in August 2021, a Hollywood lawyer and patron of the first son, according to a Thursday letter addressed to CIA Director William Burns.

The whistleblower informed Oversight chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Judiciary chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) that two DOJ officials were summoned to CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. — and told Morris “could not be a witness” for their investigation into Hunter Biden.
You can't talk to them. If fact, we'd rather you not talk to anyone. Do I make myself clear ?
“It is unknown why or on what basis the CIA allegedly intervened to prevent investigators from interviewing Mr. Morris,” Comer and Jordan wrote in the letter, which was obtained by The Post.
“However, these allegations track with other evidence showing how the DOJ deviated from its standard investigative practices during the investigation of Hunter Biden.”
Epstein-Maxwell project 'termination.' Yet another deviation ?
The Republican lawmakers added that the account “seems to corroborate our concerns about DOJ’s deviations from standard process to provide Hunter Biden with preferential treatment,” which have been unearthed as evidence during their impeachment inquiry into his father, President Biden.

They asked the CIA to provide all records in its possession relating to the DOJ and IRS investigation of Hunter Biden or to Kevin Morris.
Laughable, if it were not so obviously insane.
“CIA does not comment on specific investigations,” a spokesperson told The Post in a statement. “We can say that CIA cooperates with law enforcement partners and does not obstruct investigations. CIA also fully and routinely cooperates with our oversight committees and will continue to do so.”

'You Already Work for the CIA' or the Case of Seductress Xiao Ming
2024-03-21
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Dmitry Kosyrev

[RIA] The technology here is this : they “offer a job to a client” or start an affair with one. Both are on the Internet, of course, not in person. And this is done in good Chinese, since we are talking about the subversive activities of the CIA on the territory of this particular country. True, exactly the same methods (but in Russian) are used by people from the same agency in Russia and in many other countries.

The option is romantic: a girl named Xiao Ming contacts a person on the Internet and, among other things, asks him to take a photo of the port with yachts and the embankment (since the young man lives by the sea). Then - a photograph of the same embankment every other day, when warships come there. Or it could be simpler - a person, again online, is trying to get a job, and the “employer” tests his ability to take completely ordinary photos, without warships, just the view from the window.

After which the unfortunate man receives a message: you have just entered into cooperation with the CIA, and it is easy to verify this fact, it is included in our files. It doesn’t matter that the street in the picture contains no military installations, what matters is that the foreign intelligence service needed it for some reason, and you fulfilled its task. You can go and confess, hoping that competent police officers work in your county and will not do anything to you. Or you can continue to be hooked, even for the rest of your life.
Something about Chinese wimmin...
And let us note - everything is so simple and stupid. No spies trample your land and risk their lives, but sit behind a keyboard somewhere far across the sea.

The facts described above are taken from a recent document from the Chinese Ministry of State Security. The agency is not just warning, it recognizes the need to launch a broad public education campaign. The campaign has been conducted before (in schools and beyond), but now it emphasizes the need to create primitive videos for the most stubborn inhabitants of the Internet and make sure that these videos are literally everywhere. A good initiative, by the way. In our country, something similar would also not hurt at a time when calls from Ukrainian Internet saboteurs are already overwhelming.

There have been warning stories from the Beijing ministry for two weeks now. And the other day it received a continuation - an unexpected leak of information to Reuters from a “former US government employee with access to highly confidential information.” It turns out that President Donald Trump instructed the CIA to conduct secret operations on Chinese social networks in order to “turn public opinion in the country against its government.” Sending romantic photos to Langley is apparently a small part of the story.

And now there is a scandal with US officials refusing to comment on this information and everything else. Additional details are being discussed, including that the same secret unit of internet warriors was distributing fake news to news outlets around the world. First of all, about the Chinese economy, but also about “dissatisfaction with the regime” too. And especially about the “corruption of Beijing officials” related to foreign investments of the PRC. Where the facts come from is a funny question, there are those who have been recruited for that, they will tell you anything.

What conclusions can be drawn from this story? Not that new. Without a declaration of war, the US government and its official agencies carry out subversive activities against foreign countries. Is this a sensation? Clearly not. The aforementioned Reuters report nostalgically recalls that during the Cold War against the USSR, the same company published 80-90 anti-Soviet information or articles per day in the world media. And the current revelations, says one of the authors of the Hong Kong South China Morning Post, are just sunflower seeds. And he begins to list much more serious facts from recent history.

In general, there seems to be nothing new, but the methods of today’s hybrid warfare - yes, there is something to notice here. In both cases, when recruiting and sending out fakes, anonymous people work. And here there is something petty and not respectable. It’s okay to use lies to recruit agents. Intelligence, in general, exists to identify real threats to your state, sometimes it works harshly... In general, anything can happen here.

But to officially and purposefully create a false information picture, that is, to secretly spread slander about a foreign state, somehow does not fit into normal ideas about a world living “by the rules,” or even more so by international law. Some might even say that decent people and countries should not do such things. This is supposed to be punished or at least demanded the resignation of extreme officials such as CIA Director William Burns. In any case, a strong and self-respecting power should not stoop to petty scams and anonymous accounts. This, in fact, is the result of the current “Chinese” revelations of American methods.
