CAIR fires leader for working with anti-Muslim group
2021-12-16
[IsraelTimes] An Ohio chapter of the nation’s largest Moslem civil liberties and advocacy organization fires its leader for ethical and professional breaches that it says include a years-long secret association with an anti-Moslem group.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations
... the Moslem Brüderbund's American arm ...
-Ohio says executive and legal director Romin Iqbal was informed of his termination yesterday, following the conclusion of an investigation by an independent forensic expert ordered by its national headquarters. Iqbal had been suspended since last week.

The probe found "conclusive evidence that Iqbal had spent years recording CAIR network meetings and passing information regarding CAIR’s national advocacy work to a known anti-Moslem hate group," a release says.

During a briefing, spokesperson Whitney Siddiqi identifies the group as the Investigative Project on Terrorism, led by Steve Emerson.

CAIR-Ohio says that "after being confronted with clear evidence of misconduct," Iqbal admitted to secretly working for the group. Iqbal declines comment through his attorney, Dave Thomas.

The Columbus Dispatch has more about longtime CAIR employee, Romin Iqbal, esq.

Greenfield: Carol Swain smeared as White Supremacist (!)
2017-09-14
A reminder from Carol Swain, an African-American conservative, of just how malicious and dishonest the leftist hate group known as the Southern Poverty Law Center really is.

What landed me in the SPLC’s crosshairs was a Sept. 10, 2009, Huffington Post blog entry titled “Mission Creep and the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Misguided Focus.” I pointed out the SPLC’s silence about video footage released after the 2008 elections showing members of the New Black Panther Party, decked out in full paramilitary regalia, patrolling a polling precinct in Philadelphia where they were clearly intimidating white voters...

I ended my post with a one-liner that raised the ire of the organization and had a devastating effect on my life. I wrote: “Rather than monitoring hate groups, the Southern Poverty Law Center has become one.”

The SPLC’s retaliation was vicious and effective. On Oct. 17, 2009, my photo appeared on the front page of my local newspaper, the Tennessean, with the headline “ Carol Swain is an apologist for white supremacists.”

Like others targeted by the SPLC, Carol Swain experienced the consequences of the blacklist.

Being targeted by the SPLC has had a lasting impact on my life and career. Offers from other universities ended and speaking opportunities declined. Once you’ve been smeared in this way, mainstream news outlets are less likely to cite you as an expert of any kind.

Yet today I wear the SPLC’s mud as a badge of honor because I know I am in the company of many good men and women who have been similarly vilified for standing for righteousness and truth. Other SPLC targets have included Ben Carson (who eventually received an apology and retraction), Somali refugee Ayaan Hirsi Ali, terrorism expert Steve Emerson, political scientist Guenter Lewy (who successfully sued the SPLC), attorney Robert Muise, Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, and Princeton professor Robert P. George...

Some of those vilified by the SPLC have been subjected to even worse treatment. The Family Research Council and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise have been violently attacked by individuals inspired by the propaganda the SPLC regularly dishes out.

The SPLC is an ugly, hateful and sloppy organization that cashes in by claiming to fight extremism even as it practices it.

Obama White House Hosts Sheikh Who Called for Killing American Troops in Iraq
2013-06-26
President Obama’s top national security advisers have just hosted Sheikh Abdulla bin Bayyah at the White House. As vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) in 2004, bin Bayyah endorsed a fatwa calling for the killing of American troops and other personnel serving in Iraq.

Bin Bayyah is the principal deputy to Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s chief sharia jurist and the driving force of the IUMS. In addition to being behind the 2004 fatwa, Qaradawi also promotes suicide bombing against Israel. The IUMS strongly supports the Brotherhood’s Palestinian branch, Hamas, the terrorist organization designated as such under American law. Indeed, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh – a close ally of both Qaradawi and Turkey’s Islamic supremacist prime minister (and Obama fave) Recep Tayyip Erdogan – was welcomed into the IUMS as a member in 2004. As detailed here on other occasions (see, e.g., here), Hamas’s charter explains that the group’s imperative to destroy Israel is an Islamic obligation, and it cites authoritative scripture – frequently repeated by Qaradawi – stating that the world will not end “until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: ‘O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!’”

News of the White House meeting with bin Bayyah was broken last night by Steve Emerson and John Rossomando of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. The meeting took place at the Obama administration’s request, according to an account of it posted – along with a photo – on bin Bayyah’s website. Since its original posting, the account has been edited to omit mention of Obama National Security Adviser Tom Donilon’s participation.

Islamophobes Downfall Delights US Muslims
2012-11-09
CAIRO -- American Mohammedans have hailed the downfall of candidates known for their hostile tone against the sizable minority and their religion in Congressional elections this week.

"These encouraging results clearly show that mainstream Americans reject anti-Mohammedan bigotry by candidates for public office and will demonstrate that rejection at the polls," Nihad Awad, National Executive Director of the umbrella Council on American-Islamic Relations
... the Moslem Brüderbund's American arm ...
(CAIR) said in a statement obtained by OnIslam.net.

Congressional election on Tuesday, November 6, saw the fall of candidates known for their hostile rhetoric against Mohammedans.

In Florida, Republican Representative Allen West lost to his Democrat challenger Patrick Murphy.

West has once described Islam as a "totalitarian theocratic political ideology" that is a "very vile and very vicious enemy".

Another Islamophobic politician, Republican Adam Hasner, was voted down by voters in Florida.

Hasner is known for championing events to taint the image of Mohammedans.

In 2009, he sought to block a day, "Florida Mohammedan Capitol Day", that marks Mohammedan achievements.

Two years earlier, he sponsored the screening of a documentary that scares Americans away from Islam and Mohammedans for state politicians.

The documentary "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against The West", which presents what it describes as radical Islam's campaign against Christians, America and the West, was shown on college campuses across the country.

It features interviews with commentators famed for their notorious anti-Islam views, including Martin Gilbert, Daniel Pipes and Steve Emerson

A third Islamophobic candidate, Terry Kemple, was also defeated in his bid for the Hillsborough County School Board.

Kemple's main issue in the race was seeking to keep Mohammedan speakers out of local schools.

State Department bars Customs from inspecting Muslim Brotherhood delegation
2012-04-11
This despite the fact, according to Steve Emerson at the Investigative Project on Terrorism, that one of the members of the Muslim Brotherhood delegation that visited the White House last week, was being investigated for child pornography when he lived in the US a few years ago.

The State Department broke with normal procedures last week when it ordered the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) not to conduct a secondary inspection on members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) on their way to visit government officials and think tanks in the United States.

This happened despite the fact that one member of the delegation had been implicated - though not charged - in a U.S. child pornography investigation, the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) has learned.

According to senior enforcement sources and documents reviewed by the IPT, investigators had information tying Abdul Mawgoud Dardery to the pornography investigation that was based in Pennsylvania. He was the senior member in the four-person FJP delegation which held court with academic groups and met with senior officials at the White House and State Department last week. (For more on what they said, click here.)

Before returning to Egypt, Dardery lived in the United States long enough to attain legal permanent residency, known as a green card. That status lapsed after he left the country for more than six months. The child pornography investigation took place during Dardery's time here and was noted in his immigration file. It surfaced when CBP officials learned of his pending visit.

A U.S. official familiar with immigration procedures told the IPT that extra inspection is standard operating procedure when a foreign visitor has been tied to criminal or terrorist activities. "Secondary inspections" involve going through the visitor's baggage and viewing the contents of computers and other electronic devices to search for evidence of illicit activity. Agents would typically search other members of the party to ensure Dardery did not hand off his computer equipment to an associate to avoid detection.

The delegation's ties to Hamas alone should have kicked off the extra inspection. Instead, the State Department bent over backwards to accommodate our visitors, making them feel right at home.

Hearings on radical Islam snub top experts
2011-01-23
King caves.
Rep. Peter King says he won't be calling what Politico calls "Muslim community critics" such as Steve Emerson and Robert Spencer. Politico unveils King's white flag over the witness list by calling it "a move that will come as a relief to Muslim leaders."
which should be a red flag, no?
So why bother to hold hearings on "radical Islam" at all, if self-censorship prevents a full discussion of sharia and jihad?

Illinois state police revoke Muslim chaplain appointee
2010-06-23
The Illinois State Police has revoked the appointment of a prominent Chicago-area cleric to be its first Muslim chaplain after questions about his connection to a charity with ties to the militant Palestinian group Hamas. In a statement, state police officials said Sheikh Kifah Mustapha, the associate director of the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview, could not serve as a volunteer chaplain "due to information revealed during the background investigation." State police declined to be more specific.

In December, Mustapha was one of seven religious leaders trained in Springfield to become volunteer state police chaplains. State police said they discovered after all seven volunteers completed the training that detailed background checks had not been done. Shortly after Mustapha's appointment, Steve Emerson, executive director of the Washington-based Investigative Project on Terrorism, criticized Illinois law enforcement for ignoring Mustapha's history as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in the case against the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, once the nation's largest Muslim charity.

The foundation's two founding members were sentenced last year to 65 years in prison each for funneling millions of dollars to Hamas, which the U.S. has labeled as a terrorist organization. Mustapha helped raise money for the group in Chicago but was never charged with any crime.

On Wednesday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations will hold a news conference to protest the revocation of Mustapha's appointment.

Amnesty International defends "defensive jihad"
2010-04-04
Amnesty International's Secretary-General Claudio Cordone is defending jihad when it occurs in "self-defence." The issue arose after Amesty International suspended Gita Sahgal, one of its senior officials in London, for expressing the view that Amnesty's collaboration with former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzem Begg "fundamentally damages" the group's reputation. Sahgal pointed out that "to be appearing on platforms with Britain's most famous supporter of the Taliban, whom we treat as a human rights defender, is a gross error of judgment." (And worse, I would have thought)

Begg isn't just Britain's most famous Taliban supporter. According to Steve Emerson and Tom Joscelyn, he is also a friend and supporter of Anwar al-Awlaki, imam to some of the 9/11 hijackers, and an inspiration to both the Christmas Day bomber and the Fort Hood mass-murderer.

Following Sahgal's suspension for criticizing Amnesty International's alliance with Begg, supporters petitioned the organization on her behalf. That led to Cardone's spirited defense of Begg. He argued that Begg advocates detainees' due process rights within "the same framework of universal human rights standards that we are promoting," Attempting to reconcile this extraordinary claim with Begg's association with violent jihad, Cardone asserted that advocacy of "jihad in self defence" is not antithetical to human rights.

Sahgal's supporters promptly pointed out that the concept of defensive jihad "is a thread running through many fundamentalist and specifically 'salafi-jihadi' texts." For example,

it is mentioned by Abdullah Azzam, mentor of Osama bin Laden, and founder of Lashkar e Tayyaba. It is the argument of 'defensive jihad' that the Taleban uses to legitimize its anti human rights actions such as the beheading of dissidents, including members of minority communities, and the public lashing of women.

There are, then, "human rights" activists who fairly can be said to share al Qaeda's values, and the head of Amnesty International is one of them. Fortunately, as Sahgal and her supporters illustrate, there are human rights activists, including harsh critics of the U.S., who are as appalled by those values as we are.
