India's Modi gives army freedom to act as tensions rise with Pakistan after deadly terror attack
2025-04-30 | |
[FoxNews] Pakistani minister claims India 'intends carrying out a military action' against his country 'in the next 24-36 hours' India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is giving the armed forces near complete freedom of action to respond following a deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region on April 22 that saw 26 people killed by terrorists. India and Pakistan have exchanged fire every day since the attack along the Line of Control that separates the Indian and Pakistani areas of Kashmir. The Times of India reported on Tuesday that Modi has given the military the operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets, and timing of the response to the attack in Kashmir. Modi is set to convene another meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday to coordinate India’s next moves. The move comes as Pakistan's Minister for information and broadcasting claimed on X that his country has "credible intelligence that India intends carrying out military action against Pakistan in the next 24-36 hours on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations of involvement in the Pahalgam incident." Modi recently said India will "identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and their backers," in a post on X. "We will pursue them to the ends of the earth," Modi added. India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh told Reuters that the country has mobilized its forces because retaliation is "something which is imminent now." The Resistance Front (TRF), an extremist group linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist organization based in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack in Pahalgam. Lashkar-e-Taiba was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks and is known to have links with the Pakistani military and a partnership with Pakistan’s Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack.
"An Indian military response is likely reflecting the more muscular foreign policy of the Modi government as noted by its actions following previous terrorist attacks," Chietigj Bajpaee, senior research fellow for South Asia at Chatham House, told Fox News Digital. Bajpaee noted that a surgical strike or airstrike is the most likely form of retaliation, and the response will likely take a calibrated approach to limit collateral damage and civilian casualties and to control the escalation ladder in order to keep the conflict below the nuclear threshold. "However, this is easier said than done given the possibility of accidental escalation" and a "broader tit-for-tat military escalation cannot be ruled out," he warned. Although there was limited outreach from Modi in the past, two rounds of escalation in 2016 and 2019 have soured relations. Sadanand Dhume, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told Fox News Digital that Modi is facing pressure to mount a tough response. "The Indian public is outraged by last week’s terrorist attack in Kashmir, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is under immense pressure to respond to the atrocity by striking Pakistan, which has long sponsored attacks on India," Dhume said. Already India has suspended the landmark 1960 Indus Water Treaty, a key water-sharing agreement covering rivers that overlap both countries. Pakistan’s Minister of State for Law and Justice told Reuters that Islamabad plans on challenging India’s suspension of the treaty and is raising the issue with the World Bank. Pakistan said the impediment to the free flow of water would constitute an act of war. The rivalry between India and Pakistan dates back to the partition of the former British colony of India in 1947, with the establishment of Muslim-majority Pakistan and Hindu-majority India. The partition plan also provided the contested regions of Jammu and Kashmir with the opportunity to choose if they wanted to join either newly established nation. Kashmir ultimately decided to join India in exchange for help against invading Pakistani militias, with India and Pakistan fighting three wars over the territory since 1947. India and Pakistan have an estimated combined 342 nuclear warheads, according to the Arms Control Association.

Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively: Indian Army JAMMU AND KASHMIR Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has called one-day special session of Legislative Assembly on Monday to pay homage and discuss the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. As many as 629 Indians, including 13 diplomats and officials, have returned from Pakistan through the international border crossing located in Punjab. Speaking to Russian TV channel, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif sought China and Russia's help in investigating of Pahalgam attack. Terrorists and their backers carried out the Pahalgam attack to destroy Kashmir again as they did not like the return of peace and prosperity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday and vowed the "harshest" response to the "perpetrators and conspirators" At least 54 terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have been killed while trying to infiltrate from Afghanistan into northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military's media wing said on Sunday. Authorities here have demolished the houses of three alleged active terrorists in Bandipora, Pulwama and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir as security forces continued their crackdown on the terror ecosystem following the Pahalgam terror attack. With this, nine houses of suspected terrorists and overground workers of terror outfits have been razed so far since the April 22 attack in the lush meadows of Baisaran that killed 26 people and left the nation grief-stricken and fuming. Security Forces Narrow In On Pahalgam Terrorists 'Four Times' In South Kashmir [OneIndia] Security forces have located the Pahalgam attackers "at least four times" at various locations over the past five days, coming "very close" to cornering them in the forests of South Kashmir - and, on one occasion, even exchanging fire with them, The Indian Express reported. According to sources, the terrorists were tracked using information from local residents, intelligence inputs, and combing operations. "It's a cat and mouse game. There have been instances where they have been visibly located. But by the time they could be engaged, they had escaped. The forests are extremely dense, making it difficult to pursue them even after spotting them. However, we are confident we will capture them; it is only a matter of days," an officer from the military establishment told the newspaper. The Army, in coordination with Central Armed Police Forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has been conducting cordon and search operations in the forests surrounding Pahalgam in pursuit of the four terrorists - including two from Pakistan - responsible for the killing of 26 people at Baisaran meadow on 21 April. Sources indicated that the terrorists were first sighted near Hapat Nar village in Pahalgam tehsil, Anantnag, but managed to escape by exploiting the dense terrain. Subsequently, they were reportedly spotted in the forests of Kulgam, where a brief exchange of fire occurred with security forces before they fled once more. The group was later located near the Tral ridge and then in Kokernag, where they are currently believed to be operating. Sources said the manhunt has been complicated by the terrorists' extreme caution in securing supplies. "Typically, terrorists need to arrange for food, which often draws them to villages. At times, they use local contacts to bring supplies to them in the forests, generating human intelligence that gives security forces an opportunity to act. However, these individuals are operating with great care," said an officer. "We are aware of an incident where they entered a house at dinner time, seized food, and fled. By the time security forces were alerted and arrived, significant time had passed, allowing the terrorists to escape," he added. Another complication, sources mentioned, is the lighter snowfall in the Kishtwar range this season. "This provides the terrorists with the opportunity to cross towards the Jammu side, where the forests are denser and the terrain more challenging. They have been using the Kishtwar range to manoeuvre, but we believe they are still within South Kashmir," the officer said. "There is a 'front door' to the Kashmir side and a 'back door' leading towards Jammu. Recently, foreign terrorists have increasingly been infiltrating and operating via the Jammu side. Our counter-infiltration grid is not as robust there compared to North Kashmir," he noted. Security forces remain optimistic that the terrorists will eventually make a mistake and be neutralised. For instance, sources revealed that the attackers took two mobile phones from the tourists they killed at Baisaran. "It is anticipated that these phones may be used to establish communication locally or across the border. Our technical intelligence network is closely monitoring these devices for potential leads," they said. Meanwhile, the counter-infiltration grid on both the Jammu and Kashmir sides has been strengthened, and border forces placed on high alert to prevent the terrorists from escaping across. The Jammu and Kashmir Police are also interrogating suspected overground workers linked to terror outfits in South Kashmir to gather intelligence and ascertain whether additional individuals were involved in the attack. The investigation is focusing on the logistical support the terrorists may have received in planning and executing the assault. Turkey Sends Combat Equipment To Pakistan Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions After Pahalgam Attack [OneIndia] Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, Turkey has shown its support for Islamabad by sending combat equipment. A Turkish Air Force C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft arrived in Karachi on Sunday, carrying military supplies. Sources indicate that this move forms part of broader defence cooperation between the two nations. In addition to Karachi, up to six Turkish C-130 aircraft have reportedly landed at a military base in Islamabad, underlining Turkey's backing of Pakistan, particularly as Pakistan struggles to manage growing challenges along its international borders. Both Turkish and Pakistani sources have confirmed the transfer of military cargo, although precise details of the shipments have not been disclosed. Significantly, Turkey is standing by Pakistan at a time of heightened regional instability, especially in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and the renewed conflict between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. Turkey's military assistance complements similar support from China, which has reportedly supplied drones to enhance Pakistan's defensive capabilities. This strategic collaboration underscores the strengthening defence ties among Turkey, Pakistan, and China. Analysts monitoring these developments suggest that these alliances are reshaping South Asia's geopolitical landscape, particularly as military activity across the region continues to intensify. For Pakistan, which is currently mobilising resources along its borders, the arrival of this military equipment is seen as crucial reinforcement amid mounting threats. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has activated several key air bases - including Pensi, Skardu, and Swat - in response to rising regional tensions with India. Fighter jets including F-16s, J-10s, and JF-17s have been deployed at these bases, with combat air patrols (CAP) already underway. This initiative is part of the PAF's broader strategy to bolster its defensive capabilities and ensure swift response readiness. It is noteworthy that Skardu airbase has been upgraded to serve as a critical hub, supporting Pakistan's fighter aircraft in air defence operations, surveillance, and combat readiness. |

Russian shipbuilders hand over missile frigate Tushil to Indian Navy |
2024-12-10 |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. [Regnum] The Baltic shipyard Yantar (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC)) handed over the Project 11 356 guided missile frigate Tushil to the Indian Navy. This was reported on December 9 by the press service of USC. "The ceremonial transfer of the ship took place on December 9, 2024 in Kaliningrad in the presence of Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The acceptance certificate was signed by a representative of JSC Rosoboronexport and the ship's commander," the corporation's website said. Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev called the raising of the Indian flag on the ship another important stage of Russian-Indian cooperation in the military-technical sphere, fully consistent with the principles of the Make in India program. "The frigate built in Russia has 20 Indian-made naval systems installed, and is equipped with the BrahMos supersonic missile system. In addition, today Rosoboronexport and India are implementing about 10 joint projects on naval issues alone and are discussing several new ones," he said. It is noted that Tushil is the seventh frigate of Project 11 356 in the Indian Navy, which testifies to the high efficiency demonstrated by these ships and the great trust of the Indian Navy in the Russian defense industry. Currently, the first six ships of this project are intensively and successfully engaged in the implementation of assigned tasks in various regions of the World Ocean, having received deservedly high praise from the sailors and command of the Indian Navy. During the handover ceremony, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Alexander Moiseyev said that he felt proud that yet another ship created by domestic shipbuilders was part of the Indian Navy. “This is already the seventh frigate in the series, and next spring we plan to hand over another ship of this project to our Indian colleagues – the frigate Tamal,” he said. As reported by Regnum News Agency, at the end of July, the Indian Navy frigate INS Tabar (Battle Axe) took part in the Main Naval Parade in honor of the Russian Navy Day. Before that, the ship took part in the celebration of the 325th anniversary of the Russian fleet, which took place in July 2021 in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt. Equipped with surface-to-air weapons systems and built using stealth technology, the frigate was created in 2004 at the Baltic Shipyard. It was commissioned in April of that year in Kaliningrad. |

Poonch Terror Attack Army probe picks up lapses in killing of 3 civilians last December |
2024-04-11 |
[GreaterKashmir![]() Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... ] Apr 5: The Army’s internal inquiries into the killing of three civilians, allegedly during interrogation by Army personnel following a terror attack in J&K’s Poonch in December 2023 that left four soldiers dead, have found serious lapses and operational gaps in the conduct of seven to eight personnel, including officers, at various levels, The Indian Express reported. Sources have told The Indian Express that the findings of the inquiries indicate that the three civilians died of torture, allegedly during interrogation. The terror attack took place on December 21 on the Mughal Road between Dehra Ki Gali and Bufliaz. The next morning, eight civilians were picked up from Topa Pir in Poonch district’s Bufliaz area, and five from Rajouri district’s Thanamandi area. Of the eight taken away from Topa Pir, three died of injuries sustained during the alleged torture. The inquiries are learnt to have found lapses in the overall conduct of the operation as well as the individual conduct of certain personnel. Administrative and disciplinary action have been recommended against two officers and other ranks who were either directly or indirectly responsible for the interrogation. The sources said that the initial findings have indicated administrative lapses and a lack of command and control on the part of the Brigade Commander of 13 Sector RR and the Commanding Officer (CO) of 48 Rashtriya Rifles (RR). While the Brigade Commander was not physically present at the site, the CO was on leave — they have since been moved out. Although they were not directly involved in any misdemeanour, administrative action has been recommended against them. Not necessarily at the spot most times, they are responsible for ensuring the implementation of SoPs and other drills. Suitable disciplinary action, sources said, has also been recommended against two officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other ranks who were present during the interrogation of the civilians who had been rounded up. One of the officers was learnt to have been responsible for the CO’s role in his absence. Sources said while the two officers may not have been directly involved in the physical torture which allegedly led to the deaths, they were responsible for ensuring that interrogation was done in line with rules. Hence, the recommendation for disciplinary action against them. In the military, disciplinary action could mean a court martial. Punishment could include the death penalty ![]() According to the sources, the inquiries have been finalised after being vetted for legal procedures and other details, including invoking Army Rule 180 wherein the accused gets the option to cross-question witnesses to clarify statements. Based on the directions of the inquiry reports, the entire evidence is being collected in the form of a summary of evidence. Based on that, further action such as a General Court Martial would be ordered. Meanwhile, ...back at the Alamo, Davy was counting their remaining cannon balls and not liking the results... 48 RR, the unit involved in the incident, has been made to regroup and retrain under a new Commanding Officer. It has been redeployed in another sector under the Nagrota-based XVI Corps. The Indian Express reported that in response to their queries, the Army said that investigations into the incident are still in progress and it may be premature to arrive at outcomes at this stage. "The Indian Army is committed to conducting a thorough and impartial inquiry to ascertain the facts surrounding this incident. All efforts are in place to ensure that the investigations are fair, comprehensive and conclusive. Further actions will be determined based on the outcome of the investigations," it said. The Army said it is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline, conduct and ethics, by the law besides maintaining zero-tolerance towards any human rights ...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you... violations. "Our protocols and procedures are designed to ensure that all personnel adhere to these principles, even under the most challenging operational conditions," it said. Following the incident, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Army Chief General Manoj Pande visited Rajouri and met the families of the three civilians who died. The families said Singh had assured them justice. Related: Poonch district: 2023-12-27 J&K Govt. India, together with the United States, will make armored vehicles used by Kiev in the Northern Military District |
2023-11-15 |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. by German Polysalov [REGNUM] Washington and New Delhi have agreed to jointly produce American Stryker armored vehicles in India. This was one of the results of the visit to India by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin , accompanied by US State Department chief Antony Blinken. Wheeled armored cars Stryker, note, are among the equipment that the United States supplied to the Ukrainian army. In February, Austin announced, among other things, the transfer of 90 units of these armored vehicles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Kyiv used this technique in the summer-autumn “counter-offensive”. At the end of September , TASS reported that Strykers were among the weapons knocked out in battles near Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region. Stryker “is valued in the US Army for its versatility - there are more than two dozen variants that perform, among other functions, infantry, reconnaissance platforms, medical and engineering support,” The Times of India explained to its readers . The agreement to jointly produce combat systems was announced after a meeting between Blinken and Austin with Indian colleagues Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Rajnath Singh . ARMORED VEHICLES "WITH AN ELEPHANT" Joint production of Strykers can begin quite quickly, but the timing of the start of work will depend on the level of localization of production, Vasily Kashin , senior researcher at the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, expert at the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, explained to IA Regnum . If we are talking about the production of complex elements in India - engines, electronic components and remotely controlled weapons systems, it may take more time. If India produces low-tech elements of armored vehicles, it will be able to set up production faster. New Delhi's interest in producing its Strykers is understandable. These are modern and relatively good wheeled armored personnel carriers that will surpass the Soviet-type vehicles used by India in armor protection, communications and surveillance equipment. The way these vehicles were used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces - as ordinary transport to transport soldiers to the line of contact or to attack them - “is strange,” Kashin notes. But it is unlikely that in the foreseeable future we should expect the appearance of “Strykers” with the “made in India” mark in the Northwestern Military District zone. And the reason is not only politics. Although in it: Delhi distances itself from any form of support for the Kyiv regime and in contrast to neighboring Pakistan. The main reason: from the moment the contract is signed until the production of armored vehicles begins, years will pass in any case, Kashin pointed out. The fact is that the state program Make in India, which was approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , involves abandoning “screwdriver production” (in this case, simple welding of armored hulls) in favor of deeper localization. This implies the construction of factories with full-fledged production lines and the training of qualified personnel - and this is a matter of more than one year. Thus, there is no need to fear that Indian-assembled American cars will fall into the possession of Kyiv. Another concern is the very growing pace of military cooperation between India and the United States. “WE PLEDGED TO DEEPEN TIES BETWEEN THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX” On November 8, the American and Indian sides held a meeting to mobilize private capital for defense startups, Nikkei reported. These agreements are a logical continuation of the June agreements. Then Prime Minister Modi visited Washington to benefit the national military-industrial complex. The Indian Prime Minister and US President Joe Biden then agreed on a “road map” for cooperation between the two defense complexes. For example, as part of the “map”, the aerospace division of the American General Electric signed an agreement with the Indian state-owned company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd on the production of American F414 turbofan “engines” for promising Indian fighters - the fourth generation Tejas machines. During Modi's top-level state visit, the two countries not only strengthened cooperation on aircraft engines and munitions, but also " committed to deepening defense industry ties, including intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance technologies," The Times of India noted. In addition to cooperation on aircraft engines and ammunition, the parties are “working to streamline regulation, licensing and export controls, as well as deepen ties between defense companies . ” This, among other things, implies contacts through military intelligence and underwater communications projects. The Indian Army (4th in the ranking of the strongest armed forces according to Global Firepower) is planning to update its helicopter fleet: by 2027 it is planned to abandon the old Cheetah and Chetak aircraft. Yes, New Delhi expects to partially replace it with its own LUH light multipurpose helicopters. But it is also planned to turn to an external supplier - which, again, turns out to be the United States. Open sources reported that in July of this year, the US Army received a request to lease twenty light helicopters for reconnaissance and surveillance. WHY INDIA IS INTERESTED IN AMERICAN SUPPLIES American arms exports to India are indeed growing, but this is mainly due to sectors where Russia has nothing special to offer, says Vasily Kashin. These are basic patrol aircraft, heavy transport aircraft and armored personnel carriers. Our own program of the newest armored personnel carrier "Boomerang" is still delayed, and we continue to mass-produce the BTR-82, which is essentially a deep modernization of the BTR-80. In these conditions, the Indians are looking for other modern models of armored fighting vehicles, which are in great need, and the same Stryker is not the worst option for them. The lack of armored vehicles in the Indian army is also confirmed by researcher at IMEMO RAS, Indologist Alexey Kupriyanov . The interlocutor points out that for obvious reasons we cannot compete with the United States in the export of modern models of armored transport and combat vehicles: armored vehicles are occupied on other fronts, in other directions. At the same time, when the SVO is completed and its goals are achieved, a functioning industry churning out tanks, armored personnel carriers, shells and cartridges will obviously allow us to win back part of the market, Kupriyanov told IA Regnum . RUSSIAN DEVELOPMENTS IN INDIAN DESIGN At the same time, Kashin believes, joint Russian-Indian military projects are continuing now. But we cannot see many of them due to their closed nature due to sanctions. But we can talk about joint projects in the field of air and missile defense. In addition, India clearly intends to continue strengthening its air force - on November 7 it became known about the creation of additional air brigades on the borders with China and Pakistan. Each brigade is expected to be equipped with 50–60 helicopters. This circumstance opens a window of opportunity for continued contacts between India and Russia, despite the objective military rapprochement between New Delhi and Washington. It is necessary to work out mechanisms for financing all these projects under conditions of extreme sanctions pressure. And at the same time take into account the mentioned Make in India program and the emphasis on the national military-industrial complex. In this case, Moscow can integrate into joint production chains: R&D (research and development work) is carried out in Russia, production in India, and arms exports are carried out jointly. Moscow and Delhi already have accumulated experience, including relatively recent ones: in the mid-1990s, the parties quickly agreed to create a joint aerospace venture, BrahMos Aerospace, which also produces missile weapons. Russia's role was in development, technology and R&D, while the Indian side was assigned the creation of the ground part of all systems. However, the same Make in India project also involves cooperation of a similar format between the Indian military-industrial complex and the Americans or other Western gunsmiths. It is necessary to understand the percentage of localization of production and the markets where weapons will be exported, notes Kupriyanov. It should be taken into account that India has been professing the principle of “multi-vector” weapons for quite a long time. Despite all the disadvantages (in terms of the interchangeability of parts and the difficulty of training military personnel to operate equipment), there are obvious advantages: this allows the Indians not to be left without spare parts and with outdated equipment in the event that something happens to the supplier - as happened with the Soviet Union. Russia, obviously, has to come to terms with the fact that our traditional partner will continue to diversify its arms purchases without clinging to one exporter. |

Calls for probe into Indian soldiers allegedly forcing villagers to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in occupied Kashmir mosque |

[Dawn] Two former chief ministers of India-held Kashmir![]() Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... have demanded an investigation into an alleged incident of Indian soldiers forcing Moslem worshippers in a mosque in the valley’s Pulwama area to chant Hindu slogans, the Indian media has reported. "Shocked to hear about army troops from 50 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) storming into a mosque at Pulwama and forcing Moslems inside to chant ’Jai Shree Ram’. Such a move when [Home Minister] Amit Shah is here and that too ahead of yatra (a Hindu pilgrimage) is simply an act of provocation," said former CM Mehbooba Mufti in reaction to the reports. She requested Indian Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, who recently took command of India’s Chinar Corps in the area, to "immediately set up a probe" into the reported incident. Similarly, former CM Omar Abdullah termed the reports "deeply distressing". "It’s bad enough they entered but then forcing people to chant slogans like ’Jai Shree Ram’ as reported by the locals there, is unacceptable," he said, referring to a Hindu religious slogan. He expressed hope that Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would issue instructions for the reports to be investigated in a "timely and transparent manner". THE INCIDENT According to Indian news website The Wire, the residents of Zadoora — a village in occupied Kashmir’s Pulwama area — said the alleged incident took place on June 24 around 1:30am when soldiers of Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency force, arrived at the village, reportedly along with an unidentified officer. "While the officer was sitting on the bonnet of one of the vehicles, the soldiers asked me to come out," Mohammad Altaf Bhat, a Zadoora local and chairman of the Zadoora Civil Society group, told The Wire. "I thought that they were looking for some suspects in the village," he said, adding that the soldiers told him that a new team was being posted in the area and it was conducting a mock drill in the village to teach recruits how to carry out counter-insurgency operations. "I told them that the operation could have been carried out during the day also and it was wrong to disturb villagers in the middle of the night," the report quoted Bhat as saying, who said the villagers were kept awake till dawn. Then around dawn, Bhat told The Wire, Indian army soldiers followed the muezzin (one who makes call for prayers). "In the middle of the azaan (call to prayer), the soldiers forced him to chant ’Jai Shree Ram’ slogans," he alleged. According to the report, area residents alleged that Indian army soldiers detained at least 10 villagers during their exercise and five of them were beaten up, including Bhat’s son. "They (soldiers) forced the detained youngsters to chant ’Jai Shree Ram’ slogans in chorus behind him also," Bhat further claimed. Moreover, The Wire quoted local sources as alleging that the army also vandalised the Jamia Masjid Zadoora. Meanwhile, ...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again... Indian news website Scroll.in reported that a similar incident reportedly took place in at least one other mosque in the area. The Wire quoted a senior army officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, as saying that the incident had "come into their notice". "We are ascertaining the facts. Once we have clarity about what has happened, we will share the details," the report quoted the officer as saying. Meanwhile, ...back at the Council of Boskone, Kinnison began his slow infiltration of the sewer system... The Telegraph quoted Bhat as saying that high-ranking army officials had apologised to the villagers on Sunday, adding that the officials had said that an army major involved in the incident was also removed. "We are satisfied with the army’s action but we don’t want a repeat of such incidents," he said. |

Day 3: Searches continue, no fresh contact with terrorists in J&K’s Rajouri |
2023-05-07 |
[OneIndia] No fresh contact was established with holed up turbans in the forested Kandi area of Jammu and Kashmir![]() Azad (Free) Kashmir. ’s Rajouri district, where a massive search operation to track ultras entered the third day on Sunday, officials said. Five Army personnel and a terrorist, who is said to be part of the group that carried out an attack on civilians in Dhangri village of Rajouri early this year, were killed, while a major-rank officer was injured in the operation so far. While the five soldiers bit the dust in a kaboom triggered by the turbans when the forces moved in to flush out ultras in the Kesari hill forest on Friday morning, the terrorist was bumped off the next morning after he along with his another associate was confronted shortly after midnight. The other terrorist was believed to have been injured in the exchange of fire which lasted for several hours but managed to slip away, the officials said, adding the operation code named "Trinetra" was continuing when last reports were received. "There was no fresh contact with the turbans after Saturday’s encounter. The area witnessed heavy rains in the evening (Saturday) but the operation is on and the area remains under tight security cordon with all escape routes plugged," a security bigshot said. He said Army, police and CRPF personnel are deployed in the operation area and are engaged in a massive combing operation to track down the terrorists. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh along with Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Ace of Spades Division headquarters in Rajouri on Saturday. Northern Army commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi also visited the encounter site before the arrival of the defence minister and was briefed about the developments in the 'Operation Trinetra'. Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu, which were declared terrorism-free more than a decade ago, have been rocked by a series of deadly attacks since October 2021, resulting in the killing of 35 people, including 26 soldiers.
Rajouri, Poonch attacks both handiwork of Lashkar: Intel [OneIndia] The Intelligence agencies have learnt that the horrific attack that was carried out in Rajouri in which five soldiers of the Indian Army died was orchestrated by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The Indian Army has launched a full-scale counter-terror operation in the Kandi Forest in Bhata Dhurian, Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir to avenge the killing of the soldiers. Informed sources tell OneIndia that the attack was carried out by the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. The group led by Habibullah Malik alias Sajjid Jutt alias Sajjid Langda along with Reyaz Ahmed alias Qasim had planned the attack. The same group is said to be involved in the Poonch attack, the source cited above said. This particular group is being controlled by the team that is based out of Pakistain occupied Kashmir. Sajjid Jutt, a resident of Kashur in Pakistain's Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard 2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers 3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... is operating out of Pakistain occupied Kashmir. He is also the operational commander for the Lashkar-e-Tayiba in Jammu and Kashmir, the source added. With two back-to-back attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in which five Army personnel have died, the Indian Army is revamping its strategy, another official said. There has been a lot of focus on Kashmir as a result of which the holy warriors decided to ramp operations in the Jammu region. The Indian security mechanism is now revamping the strategy in the Jammu region, the source also said. Top Indian security officials along with the commanders of the Indian Army are on their way to Srinagar to review the entire scenario. We will overcome this and ensure that the holy warriors are wiped out in this region as well. The same strategy applied to Kashmir would be done in Jammu. There are setbacks no doubt, but the game by Pakistain will not last too long another official said. It would also not be wrong to say that the attacks in Poonch and Rajouri coincide with the visit by Pakistain's foreign minister, Bilawal BabyBhutto Zardari ...Pak dynastic politician, son of Benazir Bhutto and grandon of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. As far as is known, Bilawal has no particular talents other than being pretty and being able to memorize political slogans, but he had the good luck to be born into the right family and he hasn't been assassinated yet... . The day the announcement of his visit was made, the Poonch attack took place. On the day he visited India for the SCO summit, the attack in Rajouri happened. This is hardly even a coincidence, a top security expert said. LAC row between India-China enters fourth year |
2023-05-02 |
[OneOndia] New Delhi is no mood to toe the line of the Chinese that everything along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh is normal as the stand-off enters its fourth year. The border continues to remain unstable with tensions between the two sides high. The border row erupted in the open with a skirmish between the troops at Pinging Lake. Bilateral ties further dipped when a brutal clash took place at the Galwan Valley in which resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers. China maintains that the casualties on its side as four, although some reports say that the toll was much higher. There have been several rounds of military talks that had been held since the border row began. But many issues are yet to be resolved. The last round of talks held on April 23 yielded no results. China on the other hand has sought to build a narrative that the situation in Ladakh is generally stable and both nations should move towards normalisation of ties. During the last meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart, General Li Shangfu, it was made clear that there cannot be normal ties until there is complete disengagement along the LAC. China however said after the meeting that the border is 'generally stable.' The Chinese defence minister also said that the two sides should place the border issue in an appropriate position and promote the transition of the border situation to the normalised management. India however holds the position that the ties can never be normal until the border row is resolved. In recent times, China has been also upping the ante at the borders along the northeastern states. The recent clash at Tawang is an example of this. The last known development along the LAAC was when the People's Liberation Army (PLA) pulled back troops from Patrolling Point-15 in September 2022. This was the fourth disengagement since the border row erupted in May 2020. There has been disengagement at Galwan Valley, Gogra and Hot Springs and Pangong Lake. Despite this both sides still have over 60,000 troops each and advanced weaponry deployed in Ladakh. The two sides are still negotiating a pull back at Depsang in Daulet Beg Old sector and Charding Nullah junction. At the last military commanders meeting, two sides only agreed on maintaining security and stability along the LAC, while continuing dialogue through both military and diplomatic channels. During his meeting with Li, Rajnath Singh had raised the issue and pressed that the violation of the border management agreements has eroded bilateral ties. Singh also said that all issues at the LAC need to be resolved in line with bilateral agreements and commitments. Another prediction of Vladimir Zhirinovsky came true |
2023-05-01 |
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. by Kirill Strelnikov [RIA] At a meeting with his colleague, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, Sergei Shoigu said that all Russian-Indian projects in the field of military-technical cooperation (MTC) are being successfully implemented, none of them has been curtailed. Rajnath Singh himself wrote on his social networks that the negotiations with Shoigu "were excellent." Against the backdrop of the rapidly developing political and economic cooperation between Russia and China, which is in the center of the painfully hysterical attention of the West, the Russia-India axis in the global media space is not so noticeable, although in fact Russia is systematically and actively moving both east and south, expanding its own room for maneuver and strategic expansion. After the start of the NWO, many Western analysts tried to put on a good face on a bad game, commenting on the multiple growth in trade between Russia and China. For example, Iikka Korhonen, head of the Institute for Countries in Transition at the Bank of Finland, noted with satisfaction that "Russia is now, if not the most dependent country on China, then the second after North Korea." However, blinded by the desire to wishful thinking, Western "specialists" frankly missed the real state of affairs, where Russia stands firmly on not one, but at least two legs, making leaps and bounds. Russia's interest in developing relations with Beijing is obvious: China has the most developed economy in the world, its population is almost one and a half billion people, and our strategic vision of a new world without hegemons is practically the same. Not surprisingly, in the first three months of 2023, trade between China and Russia reached $53.84 billion, up 38.7 percent from the same period in 2022. At the same time, Russia, successfully laying its eggs in different baskets, has comparable success in relations with India, which has already overtaken China in terms of population and is in fifth place in the world in terms of GDP: on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi it was planned to increase the trade turnover to $30 billion a year, and in fact, following the results of ten months of the financial year, which began in April 2022 and ended in March 2023, the trade turnover reached a record $39.8 billion, and for the first time in history Russia entered the top 5 largest trading partners of India. One of the main vectors in the Indian direction is military-technical cooperation, the extremely favorable state of which was reported by the defense ministers of the two countries. This auspiciousness, in addition to smiles, handshakes, tropical fruits and exclamations of "Hindi rusi bhai bhai" is reflected in specific numbers. In particular, as of 2022, India has become the main buyer of Russian weapons with more than $14 billion in orders. Over the past three decades, India has acquired about $70 billion worth of arsenals from Russia. At the moment, a major contract is being implemented for the supply of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to New Delhi. Under the terms of the agreement, India will receive five regimental air defense systems worth more than $5 billion. India steadily acquires from Russia a wide range of military equipment and weapons, as well as spare parts of equipment and components for the licensed production of military equipment and weapons. By some estimates, Russia provides about 50 percent of the military products required by India. At the beginning of this year, a joint venture in India began producing AK-203 Kalashnikov assault rifles, with which the Indians plan to re-equip their entire multimillion-strong army. The project for the joint production of BrahMos cruise missiles is actively developingdesigned to destroy surface or ground targets. In addition, Russia supplies India with tanks, combat aircraft and ships, in particular, it is building project 11356 multi-purpose frigates for the Indian Navy. In the fall of 2021, the Yantar Baltic Shipyard launched the first such ship called Tushil. In 2023, the second frigate of this project, Tamala, is expected to be launched. Licensed production of Russian Igla-S man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems has been launched in India, and a number of contracts for the supply of large batches of missiles and ammunition for military air and ground forces equipment are also underway. Negotiations are underway to produce drones and supersonic fighters in India. By and large, the heads of the defense departments of Russia and India characterize their relationship with an "unprecedented level of trust" and "deep military-technical ties." Thus, it can be safely assumed that many Russian military specialists (including active military personnel) have already been able to repeatedly swim and get their shoes wet at various points on the ocean coast of India, which Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who is credited with the corresponding prediction, could rejoice at. Of course, growing economic ties with India are not limited to weapons. Joint projects in energy, agriculture, electronics, chemistry, transport and logistics are developing dynamically. The North-South transport corridor, which connects Russia, Iran and India, is actively developing. The Chennai - Vladivostok transport corridor (Vostochny port) with a length of 10.3 thousand kilometers, which will connect the Northern Sea Route, the Russian Far East and India, will soon begin to function. It must be understood that China is also closely following the development of Russian-Indian relations, and the stronger and larger they are, the less temptation there will be to dictate their terms in the status of a hypothetical "main partner and supplier." And China is well aware that this gives us weighty arguments in the negotiations, which greatly strengthen the official statements of eternal friendship. Eternal friendship is very good. But it is even better if it is built on healthy political pragmatism that benefits both sides. |

Poonch terror attack: Around 30 people detained for questioning, hunt on for terrorists [OneIndia] Around 30 people have been detained for questioning so far as security forces conducted a massive search operation to track down the holy warriors who ambushed an Army truck in Jammu and Kashmir ![]() Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. 's Poonch killing five personnel last week, officials said on Sunday. Necessary action is being taken against the holy warriors responsible for the deadly attack, the Army's Northern Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi said during an interaction with the personnel who survived the ambush in the dense forest area of Bhata Dhurian on Thursday. A stretch of the Jammu-Poonch national highway which was closed following the ambush was reopened for vehicular traffic on Sunday. In a tweet on its official handle, the Army's Northern Command shared Lt Gen Dwivedi's visit to the Command Hospital in Udhampur and interaction with the survivor. "Dwivedi interacted with the survivor...and assured that necessary action is underway," it tweeted along with two pictures of the soldier. Five soldiers were killed and one was injured after the holy warriors attacked the lone Army truck, which was carrying eatables for iftar to a nearby village. The Army's northern commander visited the attack site on Saturday. The Bhata Dhurian forest area has for long remained a preferred infiltration route for holy warriors from across the Line of Control because of its topography, dense forest cover and natural caves. Dwivedi reviewed the security in the border area and the ongoing combing operation to track down the terrorists. "Among those rounded up are two couples from Degwar in Poonch -- Iqbal and his wife Mudifa and Salam Din and his wife Rashida," an official source said, adding further investigation was underway. The slain soldiers were from a Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for counter-terror operations. Sources earlier said the attack was suspected to have been carried out by a group of three to four terrorists. The attackers possibly spent more than a year in Rajouri and Poonch and had adequate knowledge of the terrain, they added. The Jammu and Kashmir Gaznavi Force (JKGF) is said to be active in the area and its "commander", Rafiq Ahmed alias Rafiq Nayi, hails from the region. Currently, three-four terrorist groups are active in the region of Rajouri and Poonch, the sources said. The holy warriors who ambushed the Army truck used steel core bullets, capable of piercing an armoured shield, and decamped with the soldiers' weapons, officials said on Sunday. They said a sniper is believed to have targeted the truck from the front before the other holy warriors sprayed bullets and lobbed grenades on it. Experts from various agencies, including the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), have visited the site of the attack over the past two days and have managed to get a clear picture of the bushwhack which was laid by the terrorists, the officials said. Meanwhile, ...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact... members of the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities on Sunday visited an Army unit in the Akhnoor sector here to express their solidarity with the forces. Mohd Akram, who was leading the 113-member-strong community delegation, appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to provide free hand to the Army in tackling the threat of cross-border terrorism. "We moved from Banihal tehsil in Ramban district to Akhnoor some 25 years back when militancy was at its peak and it was the Army which provided relief to us and ensured that we did not face any problem. We strongly condemn the attack on the troops and our community stands with our soldiers," Akram told news hounds. He said the holy warriors are working at the behest of Pakistain to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir and should be dealt with sternly. "We request the defence minister to provide a free hand to the Army to tackle with terrorism," he said. A defence front man thanked the community for its concern and said the Gujjars and Bakkarwals are one of the most victimised communities of Pakistain's state-sponsored terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir since the early 90s. "The community has suffered at length, frequently at the cost of precious lives and property at the hands of holy warriors supported from across the border. These valiant nomadic people have supported the Indian Army in counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations with great courage and conviction," the front man said. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf bannedthe group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat... , investigations have found that the Lashkar-e-Tayiba was behind the Poonch attack in which five soldiers of the Indian Army were killed. The security agencies are finding it hard to find the seven hard boyz of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba as they may have escaped through the dense forests. The attack site is 7 kilometres from the Bhimber Ghali at the Line of Control (LoC), which is a thickly forested belt on the Indian side of the LoC. Sources tell OneIndia that this was a well planned attack and the hard boyz were aware that post the hit, they would easily escape into the forest area. The intent, the source said was to create panic and unrest ahead of the G20 meetings slated to be held in Jammu and Kashmir ![]() Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. The investigations have also shown that the Army vehicle was attacked from three sides. The Intelligence Bureau has learnt that of the seven terrorists, 3 were from Pakistain. They had crossed over from Pakistain and had hidden in the dense forests, the Intelligence had also found. A bigwig said that this is a deliberate attack planned by Pakistain. This has been done to instigate violence in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistain has been plotting several such strikes since the abrogation of Article 370, which removed the special status granted to J&K. The third G20 tourism meet is scheduled to be held in the third week of of May in Srinagar. Pakistain has objected to this. Furthermore the attack came on a day when Pakistain had announced that its foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto would be visiting India to attend the summit. The hard boyz used rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles against the Rashtriya Rifle jawans who were travelling in a truck. The initial probe suggests that the truck caught fire due to a direct rocket-propelled grenade hit. The probe is also ascertaining if the hard boyz had set the truck ablaze. Probe agencies ascertain original source of bullets used in Poonch attack [OneIndia] The bullets that were used by the terrorists to attack an Army vehicle in Poonch, in which five jawans were killed, were left behind by the US troops in Afghanistan following the fall of the US-backed government in August 2021. According to the investigation, a sniper is said to have targeted the truck from the front before two other terrorists sprayed bullets and lobbed grenades. The probe is also trying to ascertain if the steel core bullets used by the terrorists in targeting the Army truck were made in China or in the United States. Such bullets were left by the US troops in Afghanistan while leaving Kabul. They are said to have fallen into the hands of the Taliban, which in turn could have been diverted to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. According to additional DGP, Jammu, Mukesh Singh, the use of Chinese made-steep core bullets used in the attack is under investigation. Probe finds Lashkar carried out Poonch strike which killed 5 jawansProbe finds Lashkar carried out Poonch strike which killed 5 jawans "The attack was carried out by two to three terrorists who are believed to be Pakistanis. We can't speak about the involvement of locals at this stage," Singh also said. "Massive search operations are on in Bhatta Durrian forests backed by the intelligence agencies, to track down the terrorists involved in the attack. The operations are being coordinated regularly by top officials," Singh said. A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is camping in Poonch. The forensics team is also looking into the issue. In all probability the NIA will take over the probe soon. Sources tell OneIndia that while the investigation is underway, a majority of the resources are being used to track down the terrorists who may have escaped into the dense forests. |
