JUI-S not part of APDM, says Qari Gul Rehman
2007-09-19 | |
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Senior (JUI-S) of Pir Abdur Rahim Naqshbandi has refused to make an alliance with the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), indicating differences in Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA). We will not follow the instructions and agenda of the APDM as our party is not part of the alliance, said JUI-S General Secretary MNA Qari Gul Rehman while talking to Daily Times.
Rehman also criticised the MMA leadership for casting doubts on JUI-S members because of their support for President General Pervez Musharraf. However, Rehman added that neither he nor his party was ready to support Musharraf in current political scenario. Asked about his request to the MMA for fielding a presidential candidate from his party, Rehman said the request was pending with MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed.

JUI-S to contest presidential elections |
2007-09-07 |
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Senior (JUI-S) leader Pir Abdur Rahim Naqshbandi announced on Wednesday that he would contest the upcoming presidential elections, with JUI-S MNA Qari Gul Rehman as his covering candidate. We will contest the presidential elections, since General Pervez Musharraf is a liberal man and we are representatives of mosques and madrassas, Gul told Daily Times. He said if all opposition parties, particularly the Muttahida Majlise-Amal (MMA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, united against Musharraf, he would not stand a chance. We will defeat Musharrafs pride with our humility, Qari said. I have also written a letter to MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad seeking his support and permission to contest the election, he said. |

JUI-S divided on resignations |
2006-12-08 |
The resignations issue dividing the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal has also created a rift within the JUI-S after its chief Pir Abdur Rahim Naqshbandi on Thursday disagreed with his party MNA Qari Gul Rehman and demanded the MMA resign from the National Assembly immediately. The MMA should immediately resign from parliament now that the ulema have unanimously declared the Womens Protection Bill repugnant to Quran and Sunnah, he said, adding that Qari Gul Rehman had violated the partys policy by opposing the resignations during the MMA parliamentary party meeting. Naqshbandi said that the MMA Supreme Council had decided to quit the National Assembly therefore Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, must follow the decision. |

MMA leaders split over issue of resignations |
2006-12-07 |
![]() The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl), JUI (Senior) led by Pir Abdur Rahim Naqshbandi, and Jamiat Ahle Hadith led by Professor Sajid Mir said at an MMA parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday that they would not resign from the National Assembly. Qazi Hussain Ahmed, MMA president and chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami, is the biggest proponent of resignations. He said at the meeting that the MMA should resign because that was what the Supreme Council had decided. He said it was right to resign because parliament had just passed an un-Islamic bill. However, other MMA leaders disagreed. The decision to resign from the assembly was not taken unanimously. It was a decision which was imposed by the alliance president (Qazi) on all of us, the sources quoted Mir as saying. We should not leave the parliament open for PPPP by resigning, he added. |
