Elahi's arrest bid: 'Illegal action' won't be allowed, says Punjab caretaker CM |
2023-05-01 |
[GEO.TV] Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that he was "appalled" to know that the police stormed into Pakistain Moslem League Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain's house during the operation to arrest Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... (PTI) Parvez Elahi. A heavy contingent of Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard 2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers 3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... Police had raided the residence of the former PML-Q leader to arrest him. PTI strongly criticised the police's actions, voicing concerns regarding arrests of its workers and leaders. Taking note of a tweet by Shujaat's son, Chaudhry Saalik Hussain, the caretaker CM said that "no illegal action will be allowed by anyone". Saalik, sharing a video of the police party trying to break in his house during the raid to arrest Elahi, expressed dismay over what had happened. "Appalled to know that team went to arrest Ch Pervaiz Elahi but stormed Ch Shaujaat’s House in which Ch Salik Hussain got injured. The law should take it’s course," Naqvi wrote on the microblogging site in response. The interim chief minister shared that he was in Madina but receiving all the details about the matter. Earlier, Saalik had revealed that his paternal aunt (Shujaat's sister), who is also Elahi's sister-in-law (wife's sister) had told the police party that the PTI leader was at the PML-Q leader's house. "The police did what they did but what our people did not do less," the PML-Q leader had written in the Tweet that contained a video showing police party trying to break in his house. It may be noted that Naqvi's statement came after the Centre distanced itself from the raid, blaming the Punjab caretaker set-up for the incident. On Saturday night, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar held an important meeting with PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood WormtongueQureshi ![]() , and said that the federal government had nothing to do with the raid. Dar expressed regret over the raid on the PTI president’s house and violation of the sanctity of "chadar and char dewari" — a phrase used to describe family’s dignity. During the meeting, Qureshi apprised Dar of the sentiments of the family of Elahi regarding the "illegal attack" at their residence. "The federal government has nothing to do with the attack on the house of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi," Dar was quoted as saying in the meeting. The finance minister added that the raid was conducted by the Punjab caretaker government. Dar said he would inform the ruling alliance's leadership about the reservations of the PTI regarding the police action and would get back to the opposition party on the matter soon. Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, Butch shot Black Bart's other gun out of his other hand...... Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal criticised the PTI leaders for "using women and kiddies" as a shield to evade arrest. Speaking on Geo News' programme "Naya Pakistain", the federal minister said both PTI Chairman Imran Khan ...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree... and Elahi were not arrested when police conducted a raid at their residence. "We never used wheelchairs or cried on TV," he said while criticising the PTI’s leaders for raising hue and cry over arrests. |

2018-08-20 |
[ARABNEWS] Ending the decade-long dominance of the Sharif family, Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... ’s (PTI) nominee, Sardar Usman Buzdar, has been elected chief minister of Punjab, the biggest province in the country. In the election on Sunday in the Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard 2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers 3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... Assembly, Usman Buzdar secured 186 votes ‐ the minimum required number to become the leader of the House consisting of 371 members. His rival, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif ![]() , son of former three-time Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, could bag only 159 votes. The seven members of the Pakistain People’s Party (PPP) abstained from the process. The PML-Q politicians and Rah-e-Haq party members also voted for the PTI candidate. The win of the PTI nominee, Sardar Usman Buzdar, has ended the 30-year supremacy of the Pakistain Moslem League - Nawaz (PML-N) in the political realm of the province. The PML-N ruled the province from 1988 to 1990 when the elder Sharif, Mian Nawaz Sharif ![]() , served as the chief minister and gave a tough time to his political rival, the late Benazir Bhutto ... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in... , who was then prime minister. The PML-N then formed the government in the province in 1993 and Ghulam Hyder Wyne was the party nominee for the slot of chief minister. The PML-N again gained power in 1997 and the younger Sharif, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, became chief minister of the province. The ruled continued until the bloodless coup of Gen. ![]() PervMusharraf ... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ... . During Gen. Musharraf’s regime, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi served as the chief minister from 2002 to 2007. PML-N regained its glory in the 2008 elections and Mian Shahbaz Sharif became the chief minister. The rule continued for two consecutive terms (2008-20013 and 2013-18) ‐ 10 years. In the 2018 election, though, the PML-N emerged as the single largest party in the province by securing 129 seats but the number was not enough to form the government and on Sunday PTI candidate Buzdar ended their supremacy in Punjab politics. |

Qadri claims Sharifs trying to flee country |
2014-08-09 |
[DAWN] LAHORE: As the PML-N government is taking 'administrative' measures to curtail the Pakistain Awami Tehrik's protest plans, the latter's chief has claimed that the Sharifs are trying to flee the country and have applied for US visas. The administration erected barricades and placed containers around Model Town, which houses the central offices of PAT and its sister organization Minhajul Koran, adjacent Faisal Town and a portion of Garden Town. It caused hardship for the residents, including those wishing to visit nearby Jinnah Hospital, one of the city's main health facilities. Even PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervaiz Elahi and leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly Mahmoodur Rashid were not allowed to enter Model Town. The Chaudhrys were, however, allowed to go to the PAT offices on foot. A crackdown on PAT activists has also been launched across Punjab and vehicles, particularly cycle of violences, are being impounded. The measures have been taken to prevent PAT workers from attending a Koran Khwani programme scheduled for Aug 10 to pay homage to the victims of the June 17 Model Town incident. However, Switzerland makes more than cheese... hundreds of PAT workers both men and women have already made it to Model Town. Women are camping in a small ground facing the PAT chief's residence, while tents have been erected for men in the main ground outside the offices of Minhajul Koran. Their number is growing day by day as the party is providing them three meals every day. Talking to news hounds, PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri ...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him... alleged that the government had asked the private agency providing him security to withdraw its guards at the earliest. He claimed that Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf... and other members of his family were trying to escape from the country and had applied for US visas for their personal attendants and cooks since the Sharifs had already got their own visas. Copies of a covering letter written to the US embassy on July 15 on the letterhead of MNA Hamza Shahbaz were also distributed among the journalists. Comments and signatures of the embassy officials on the letter have been smudged to protect privacy. However, Switzerland makes more than cheese... the leakage of the letter from the US embassy gives credence to the reservations Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had expressed at a meeting of his close friends the other day that the Americans were also playing a role against the government in the current political crisis. Dr Qadri claimed the embassy had invited the Sharif family's staff for interview on Aug 18, but the rulers approached the Foreign Office for an early appointment. He said the UK and Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... had already refused to give 'asylum' to the Sharifs. He urged people to reach his Model Town offices so that the Sharifs could not escape accountability and said he would soon announce his next step. In reply to a question about Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif ...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab... 's statement that doors for talks were open, Dr Qadri said he had shut all such doors. He said he did not believe that his movement would lead to imposition of martial law in the country. Meanwhile, ...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin... PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat said a civilian martial law had been imposed in Lahore and asked Shahbaz Sharif not to try to name Model Town as 'Jallianwala' Town, a reference to the massacre in an Amritsar (India) park by the British in 1919. |

'PTI and PAT on board for joint march' |
2014-08-07 |
[DAWN] LAHORE: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Husain has hinted that both Pakistain Tahreek-e-Insaf and Pakistain Awami Tahreek are on board and their workers will be on the road together. "Whether it is Inqilab march or Azadi march⦠all are on board and all will be on road. Democracy has not come in a proper manner in the country. Real democracy will come only after the revolution," Shujaat said at a joint presser here on Tuesday. He said the prevailing situation in the country was discussed during a telephonic conversation with former president Asif Ali Zardari as he did not ask him to review the decision to participate in the march. Pervaiz Elahi said the PML-N government was responsible for the present crisis." The future line of action will be announced after Aug 10," he said. He said the 'third force' that would play its role in acceptance of demands of the opposition would be known after Aug 14 and 15. Dr Tahirul Qadri ...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him... reiterated that the PML-N government would be sent packing before the end of this month. He said if the government tried to stop the participants of the 'deaders day' in Lahore they would march on the Jati Umera. Majlis-e-Wahdatul Mohammedaneen leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said it would fully support PAT's revolution march. |

Qadri takes a U-turn to 'allies' surprise |
2014-06-27 |
![]() "Forming any alliance or a grand alliance had never been my agenda," Dr Qadri told the media after meeting leaders of various political and religious parties at PAT headquarters here on Thursday. "I'm not too sure what was..." PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervaiz Elahi, who had signed a 10-point agenda and worked on forming an anti-government alliance for materialising the agenda along with PAT leadership in London on May 31, were also present during the media talk. Section 4 of the agreement as accessed by Dawn on PAT's official website after the media talk on Thursday reads: "In these circumstances, there is a dire need that all patriotic political forces and segments agree on a broader revolutionary agenda and wage a joint struggle for establishment of transparent and participatory democracy in Pakistan in the real sense." |

Scenes of chaos |
2014-06-24 |
![]() ...Pak politician, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him... 's return to Pakistain was marked by scenes of chaos, violence, near-comical grandstanding by Mr Qadri and a thorough overreaction by the PML-N. Mr Qadri is back in Pakistain and, while his true political relevance is still minimal, he and his supporters have taken centre stage and seem determined to milk their second round in the limelight for everything it is worth. Even now, with his purported and so-called 'revolution' seemingly under way, it is difficult to make sense of Mr Qadri's politics or his demands. In essence, it appears to boil down to the following: remove Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf... and his government and replace them with a pro-establishment, undemocratic set-up simply so the real decision-makers in this country remain unelected, anti-democratic forces. Beyond that, there is little on grounds of policy that appears to so agitate Mr Qadri against the PML-N. ![]() ...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab... attempted to return to Pakistain after years in exile in 2004. Like yesterday, much of Lahore was shut down and barricaded and an overwhelming show of force by the Punjab administration and police forced the younger Sharif brother to leave Pakistain a couple of hours after returning. What apparently was perfectly acceptable for Shahbaz Sharif in 2004 is not palatable for Mr Qadri in 2014, at least if Mr Elahi's claims are to be paid any attention to. Somehow, while farce repeats itself in Pakistain every few years, the principals who once stood on one side of history try to wriggle across to the other side of history with a scurrilous disregard for propriety and consistency. Yet, for all the patent self-serving theatre and faux threats individuals like Mr Qadri would like to serve up, there is also a separate fundamental reality that cannot and should not be forgotten: if anti-democrats are out to destabilise the country's politics, it is really the government that should rise above such challenges and reinforce its democratic credentials and regard for the democratic project. Unhappily, the PML-N appears to have failed spectacularly in this area thus far. Prime Minister Sharif and the PML-N are not just the country's elected leadership in present times, they are also the principal custodians of the democratic project and transition to democracy. Condemnable as the anti-democrats' assault on democracy may be, democracy will only be strengthened if democracy's custodians demonstrate restraint and unflinchingly adhere to the law and the Constitution. |

Punjab promises foolproof security |

![]() He said police would also ensure security check of all the participants and their vehicles. There were confirmed reports about the possible attack on the long march through a vehicle. And, therefore, police would affix stickers on all vehicles included in the march in order to check intrusion of terrorists' vehicle on the way. He criticized the TMQ leadership for not cooperating with the government on maintaining law and order during the long march. "For the last five days the Lahore commissioner and the police chief have been visiting the TMQ secretariat to coordinate with its leadership on security issues. We had asked its leaders to provide details about the participating vehicles but they have not responded to date," he deplored. Sanaullah said the government wouldn't stop the long march until it remained peaceful. He said Mr Qadri wanted a suicide kaboom on Pakistain through his long march. He also blamed him for accomplishing the agenda of anti-state elements in the name of electoral reforms, and by risking the lives of his followers during the march. He said Dr Qadri should not do so as the nation knew all about his past. The law minister also criticized the PPP for showing double standards on the issue of long march. "First the President Zardari pushed the MQM to join Qadri and then forced it to withdraw. In the meanwhile, he (Mr Zardari) sent Rehman Malik Pak politician, Interior Minister under the Gilani government. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Nawaz Sharif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men. He had to give up the interior ministry job because he held dual Brit citizenship. who also endorsed Qadri's agenda in a presser. Finally the PML-Q leadership also began talks with Qadri on the instructions of Mr Zardari," he said. He termed Mr Qadri's demand of dissolution of the Election Commission of Pakistain a mischief by the younger Chaudhry (Pervaiz Elahi). CPO: Police will provide full security to Dr Tahirul Qadri's long march. This decision was taken during a high-level meeting, presided over by acting inspector general of Punjab Police Khan Baig at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Saturday. Senior police officials attended the meeting and finalised a strategy to provide security to the long march. According to an announcement, DIG (Operations) Sohail Ahmed Khan was nominated as coordinator to ensure and supervise the security arrangements for the long march. Inspector Zeegham of the Elite Force will liaison with the police of various districts to ensure security to the march from beginning to the end. The Elite Force will escort Dr Qadri's convoy from Lahore while additional police will also be deployed on sensitive parts of the route. Similarly, district police concerned will provide security to the long march in their respective regions as per the plan given by Dr Qadri. A control room has also been established at the CPO where a team of senior coppers will monitor security of the march. |

Qadri refuses to meet Malik Riaz; persists with long march |
2013-01-13 |
[Dawn] In a theatrical twist of events, Tehrik-e-Minhajul Koran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Saturday evening refused to meet the top leadership of PML-Q because controversial property tycoon Malik Riaz came along with them to woo him to cancel the Jan 14 long march. Qadri later decided to hold the meeting with Chaudhry brothers when Riaz announced to leave the venue. Malik Riaz along with Pakistain Mohammedan League-Quaid leaders, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, had arrived at Qadri's residence to try to convince him to delay or cancel the protest. Speaking to media representatives later, Qadri said that there is an impression that Malik Riaz is used to 'purchase people' and said that, "no one in the world can buy even his shoe." Qadri categorically refused to postpone his protest and said his long march could not be purchased. He reaffirmed his resolve three times that the march would be carried out at any cost, adding that Malik Riaz was not a stakeholder. Commenting on terrorist threats for his long march, Qadri said that threat of any terror attack could be decreased by 75 per cent if only 'two individuals' were sent to prison. He refused to name the persons. Speaking to news hounds, Elahi clarified that they had brought Malik Riaz with them as his 'speedy wisdom' had previously worked under this sort of circumstances. |
