[Substack:Don Surber] This time he is a politician who dodged a bullet. Literally. Carmine Sabia reported on Saturday, “Former Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has joined the chorus of Democrats criticizing Senate Minority Leader and New York Senator Charles Schumer for allowing the government to be funded by a Republican crafted continuing resolution. “Pelosi, a California Democrat, did not mention her Senate counterpart by name, but she shredded the legislation and those who supported it in a post on X.” Nancy’s was a lengthy post that is best read in a drunken, sobbing voice: “Democrat senators should listen to the women. Appropriations leaders Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray have eloquently presented the case that we must have a better choice: a four-week funding extension to keep government open and negotiate a bipartisan agreement.” DeLauro is an octogenarian punk rocker who dyes her hair black and blue. Murray’s beautician sticks a bowl over head and cuts whatever hair is sticking out. Say what you want about Jasmine Swivelhead but at least she knows what makeup is.

The change, which went into effect earlier this month, reverses pandemic-era restrictions by King County that kept Seattle police from booking all but the most serious misdemeanors into the slammer. Officials in the Emerald City argued the policy hamstrung prosecutors and cops. But now Seattle’s ne’re-do-wells will face a jail cell if they flaunt the law. The move is a win for local law enforcement, which has long pushed for more tools to fight a four-year crime wave that has continued since the pandemic — despite crime in nearly every other major city declining, an analysis by the Seattle Times showed. “We’ve had people tell us, ‘You can’t arrest me for that.’ Well, that was true but now we can. We’re hoping to get a little bit of accountability back,” the Times quoted Deputy Police Chief Eric Barden as saying. The booking restrictions began in 2020, when King County Jail — which contracts with Seattle — slashed its capacity for social distancing reasons. After that, the county cited staffing issues for the ongoing restrictions. Meanwhile, Seattle officials, including City Attorney Ann Davison, said that the restrictions were a millstone around the necks of city law enforcement and municipal courts, causing many crimes to go entirely unpunished. When the city began negotiating with a different jailhouse in the city of De Moines to hold its low-level thugs, a group of public defenders sent a letter to the city council whining about the long commute they would have to make to the new jail, according to the Urbanist. Finally, the county used hiring bonuses and new overtime incentives to attract more correctional officers, and the city and county were able to strike a new deal that went into effect on Nov. 1, according to the Times. Jewish school in Canada targeted by gunfire during Yom Kippur, in 2nd attack in months |
2024-10-13 |
[IsraelTimes] A Jewish school in Toronto was hit by gunfire Saturday for the second time this year, local police say, amid a rise in antisemitic attacks in Canada in the wake of the war in the Middle East. No one was injured after shots were fired from a vehicle at around 4 a.m. local time at the Bais Chaya Mushka girls school, with the only damage being a broken window, according to authorities. The school in the North York area of Toronto was targeted in a similar incident in May, and police believe the two shootings are connected. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ![]() says he is "very disturbed" by the incident, which comes as Jewish people celebrate Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism. "As we wait for more details, my heart goes out to the students, staff and parents who must be terrified and hurting today," Trudeau says in a post on X. "Antisemitism is a disgusting and dangerous form of hate — and we won’t let it stand," he adds. According to a report published in May by Jewish organization B’nai Brith Canada, antisemitic acts more than doubled in the country between 2022 and 2023. In November 2023, a Jewish school in Montreal was shot at twice in a single week, with no one injured. Toronto man arrested in Seattle after threatening to bomb Sen Patty Murray's car |
2024-09-18 |
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] A Canadian man was arrested in Seattle last week for targeting Senator Patty Murray ... Senator-for-life (D) from Washington state, reputedly not the sharpest intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body. To hear Patty tell it, if we'd built roads and bridges like Osama bin Laden had 9-11 never would have happened... (D-WA) on social media with bomb threats. According to court documents obtained by KOMO News, 29-year-old Louis Bernabe flew from Toronto to Seattle and booked a room at the W Hotel, which is located approximately three blocks from Murray's office. Bernabe does not have a residence or employment in the Seattle area and it remains unclear when he arrived in the Emerald City. On September 10, Bernabe posted a threat to bomb Murray's car on social media that said, ''Senator Murray @senpattymurray, I am warning you ONCE AND FOR ALL. Quit your trashy play of partisan nonsense AT ONCE, or I swear to God, I WILL have you check the undercarriage of your car every single day to ensure you don't get BLOWN UP to pieces. The people of this county have had it with the nonproductive crap from both sides. I have not seen my girlfriend in FIVE YEARS. We have the right to be in couple and reproduce if we choose to. If you deny us this right, you are nothing more than a nasty animal. In this case, I will condone whoever decides to put you down. Rabid creatures should be put to death.'' Sounds reasonable The following day, Bernabe, who has no criminal history or past convictions, went to Murray's Seattle office and asked her staff how to meet her. He then posted a selfie standing on the floor where Murray's office is located. He also posted a picture of a Heckler & Koch UMP submachine gun. According to court documents, Bernabe was booked into the King County jail for two counts of making bomb threats and felony harassment. He was originally held on $50,000 bail before it was increased to $250,000. ‘Outrageous Partisan Poison Pills': Dems Threaten To Torpedo GOP's Gov't Funding Bill Targeting Noncitizen Voting |
2024-09-04 |
[DC] Let them die on that hill. "Bipartisan" = letting Democrats get their way Democrats are already pushing back against a Republican-led plan that would temporarily fund the federal government until March, decrying a separate bill attached to the measure that requires proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration. Speaker Mike Johnson is planning to introduce the continuing resolution (CR) next week with the hotly-contested SAVE Act tethered to it, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, Punchbowl reported Tuesday. At the same time, a number of Democrats have called the effort a nonstarter and encouraged Republican lawmakers to be more "bipartisan." "As we have said each time we’ve had a CR, the only way to get things done is in a bipartisan way and that is what has happened every time," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told Punchbowl. The SAVE Act was spearheaded by Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas with five Democrats joining 216 Republicans to pass the bill in July. Roy preemptively claimed that Democrats playing "pure politics" would cause the bill to fail. "Recall — the "SAVE" Act (I introduced it — HR8281) passed with 5 Democrats voting for it (and others privately wanting to)," Roy said in a Monday post on X. "If they vote "no" with it attached to a funding bill that funds government to March — it’s pure politics." “Demanding outrageous partisan poison pills is a nonstarter — we’ve seen this movie before and we know how it ends,” Democratic Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Patty Murray of Washington told Punchbowl. “Senate Democrats will continue to work in a bipartisan way to ensure we can keep the government funded and deliver responsible, bipartisan spending bills that can actually be signed into law before the end of the year.” Meanwhile, Roy’s Democratic colleagues are aiming to pin the blame on Republicans if the funding bill doesn’t go through. |

House votes to impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas over border crisis | |
2024-02-14 | |
[FoxNews] Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been impeached by the House of Representatives. A Cabinet secretary has not been impeached by the U.S. Congress since 1876. The office of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Mayorkas' impeachment trial will begin later this month. "The House impeachment managers will present the articles of impeachment to the Senate following the state work period," Schumer's office said in a statement. "Senators will be sworn in as jurors in the trial the next day. Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray will preside." Tuesday evening’s vote marked House Republicans’ second attempt at impeaching Mayorkas. GOP lawmakers targeted the Biden official over the ongoing migrant crisis at the U.S. southern border, accusing him of deliberately flaunting existing immigration law and worsening the situation. The 214-213 vote was always expected to be tight; Mayorkas narrowly escaped impeachment last week when every single House Democrat showed up to shield him, including Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who temporarily left the hospital where he was recovering from surgery to cast his vote. Three Republicans also voted down the effort: Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., Ken Buck, R-Colo., and Tom McClintock, R-Calif. Each criticized Mayorkas’ handling of the border but had reservations over whether it rose to the level of impeachment. McClintock warned it could set a precedent for political impeachments that could harm GOP officials in the future. "Swapping one leftist for another is a fantasy, solves nothing, excuses Biden’s culpability, and unconstitutionally expands impeachment that someday will bite Republicans," McClintock said last week. However, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., dismissed any concerns about precedent in comments to reporters hours before the vote on Tuesday. "Mayorkas is an exceptional case in U.S. history," Johnson said, accusing him of having done more "damage on the country than any Cabinet secretary that's ever been." He also addressed the very likely scenario that the impeachment would go nowhere in the Democrat-held Senate. "The House has a constitutional responsibility, as I've said many times. It's probably the heaviest next to a declaration of war. And we have to do our job regardless of what the other chamber does," Johnson said. Two impeachment articles were approved against Mayorkas by the House Homeland Security Committee. One accused him of having "refused to comply with Federal immigration laws" and the other of having violated "public trust." The Department of Homeland Security criticized House Republicans for holding a second Mayorkas impeachment vote on Tuesday, citing comments by GOP lawmakers who have called the effort a waste of time.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein's voting flub draws attention in US Senate |
2023-07-28 |
[GEO.TV] Senator Dianne Feinstein ...Dem Senator-for-Life from Caliphornica. She has been a politician since about the time she was weaned. Feinstein was the author of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, and tried it a second time in 2012. Feinstein has chaired the Select Committee on Intelligence since 2009. At age 90, Feinstein is the oldest currently serving United States Senator.... , a Democratic representative from Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, faced confusion during a Senate vote on a defense appropriations bill. Instead of saying a simple "aye" or "nay," she started giving a speech expressing her support for the measure, prompting Senate Appropriations Chairwoman Patty Murray ... Senator-for-life (D) from Washington state, reputedly not the sharpest intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body. To hear Patty tell it, if we'd built roads and bridges like Osama bin Laden had 9-11 never would have happened... to intervene and repeatedly urge her to "just say aye." After some back-and-forth, Feinstein finally cast her vote with an "aye." A spokesperson for Senator Feinstein attributed the confusion to the chaotic nature of the hearing, saying, "The senator was preoccupied, didn't realise debate had just ended and a vote was called. She started to give a statement, was informed it was a vote and then cast her vote." The incident has raised further questions about the senator's ability to continue serving in office, given her age and previous health complications. Feinstein, who is 90 years old, missed several votes earlier in the year due to a severe case of shingles, leading to concerns about delays in advancing President Joe The Big GuyBiden ![]() We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing... 's judicial nominees. Despite calls from some California Democrats for her to step down, Feinstein has remained steadfast in her decision to continue serving. However, if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning... her voting mishap and other instances of confusion during Senate hearings have put her ability to fulfill her responsibilities under scrutiny. Feinstein has previously announced that she will not seek reelection and plans to retire from Congress at the end of 2024, after serving in the Senate for three decades. It is essential to consider the senator's health and fitness for office, especially given her crucial role on the Senate Appropriations Committee, where legislation providing funding for major federal departments and agencies is discussed. In light of these recent incidents, concerns about Feinstein's ability to effectively carry out her duties as the oldest member of the Senate are likely to remain a topic of discussion among both Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill. Biden officially notifies Congress of Syria airstrike |
2023-03-27 |
[Shafaq News] US President Joe The Big GuyBiden ![]() You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier... on Saturday notified Congress of his decision to authorize an ... KABOOM!... in Syria this week against what the US said were Iranian-affiliated facilities. The US airstrike came after a suspected Iranian drone struck a facility housing US personnel in the country, killing an American contractor and wounding five US service members. The strikes, Biden said in his letter to Congress, were made, "in order to protect and defend the safety of our personnel, to degrade and disrupt the ongoing series of attacks against the United States and our partners, and to deter the Islamic Theocratic Republicof Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneouslytaking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militiasto extend the regime's influence. The word Iranis a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGCis the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA).The term Supreme Guideis a the modern version form of either Duceor Führeror maybe both. They hate and Iran backed militia groups from conducting or supporting further attacks on United States personnel and facilities." The president added that the US strikes "were conducted in a manner intended to establish deterrence, limit the risk of escalation, and avoid civilian casualties." Saturday's notification is a routine part of the War Powers Act, which requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of military actions. The letter was sent to both House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ...the GOP house majority whip. He replaces Eric Cantor, who got whupped because his politix are like Kevin McCarthy's... and President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Sen. Patty Murray ... Senator-for-life (D) from Washington state, reputedly not the sharpest intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body. To hear Patty tell it, if we'd built roads and bridges like Osama bin Laden had 9-11 never would have happened... The strikes are likely to increase tensions with Iran, with which the proxy groups are aligned, though Tehran isn't always involved in directing attacks that they conduct. The US has already sanctioned Tehran for providing attack drones to Russia to use in the war in Ukraine. And on Thursday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley reiterated US concerns that Iran has the potential to produce enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon in less than two weeks and manufacture one within months. Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon front man, emphasized to news hounds Friday that the US is not seeking conflict with Iran, but said the strikes "were intended to send a very clear message that we will take the protection of our personnel seriously and that we will respond quickly and decisively if they're threatened." |

GOP Path to Win the Senate Widens With Several Previously Unlikely Scenarios in Play |
2022-11-07 |
[PJ] When the story of the 2022 midterm elections is written, there will probably be considerable space devoted to the unlikely way in which Republicans were able to win their majority. As it stands now — the Saturday before election day — the Democrat’s road to a Senate majority is extremely narrow. Best case scenario: they may be able to lose two seats while still retaining their 50-50 advantage with Vice President Harris casting the deciding vote. The current board shows 6 toss-up races. Two of those seats are currently in the GOP’s hands — Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Two other Republican-held seats in Ohio and Florida were toss-ups at one time but have moved into the "lean GOP" category. If Democrats manage to win in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Republicans will have to win at least three of the remaining Democratic-held toss-up seats to win a one-seat majority. It would be a challenge but certainly not impossible. But in a truly tsunami-like election, the wave becomes a destructive force for Democrats, meaning that even seats that "lean Democratic" may be in play. This means that Sen. Maggie Hassan’s New Hampshire seat is up for grabs as well as Sen. Patty Murray’s Washington Senate seat. |

Lefty Washington State Is Now 'Ground Zero for Wave Election Upset' in Senate Race |
2022-10-31 |
[PJMedia] Things are getting more interesting in the U.S. Senate race between that barnacle-encrusted boat anchor, Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), and veterans’ activist and nurse Tiffany Smiley, the Republican. RealClearPolitics has moved the race from “leans Democrat” to “toss-up.” One poll predicts that “right now, the Washington Senate race has become ground zero for a wave election upset.” We’ll see. That requires voters to actually turn in their ballots in this mail-in ballot state. Smiley has been ascendant in recent weeks and has received key aid from Mitch McConnell and his Senate PAC money. She has acquitted herself well on the campaign trail and during debates. A recent poll put Murray up by eight points, but she’s lost that edge recently because of the horrible conditions on the ground in Washington: record gas prices with the intent to raise them even more because of the Democrats’ religious obsession with the weather. Truck drivers need diesel fuel to get goods to customers, and there’s a Democrat-policy-induced shortage. Food is more expensive. Everything is more expensive. Why is America funding both sides of the Ukraine-Russian war? Nobody knows but even Ukraine-flag virtue-signalers in Washington know this makes no sense. And RealClearPolitics has now listed the race as a toss-up and a statistical tie. After three decades of doing nothing in the Senate, Patty Murray may have to find a real job. The toss-up designation was prompted by a new Trafalgar poll showing that Murray’s support is at 49.4% with Smiley just a shade back at 48.2% with 2.4% of the voters still undecided. |

Amazon, Facebook Spend Millions Lobbying Congress for More Legal Immigration, Amnesty for Illegal Aliens |
2022-01-25 |
[Breitbart] Two of the nation’s largest tech conglomerates, Amazon and Facebook, spent millions last year lobbying members of Congress to back legislation expanding legal immigration levels and amnesty for illegal aliens, records show. In all of last year, Amazon spent $20.3 million on lobbying lawmakers — including on bills that would have benefited the multinational corporation’s reliance on cheap foreign labor. Facebook, similarly, spent $20.1 million on lobbying lawmakers. Specifically, lobbying reports show, both Amazon and Facebook lobbied members of Congress to pass a huge green card giveaway scheme that would reward tech corporations for years of outsourcing American jobs to imported foreign visa workers while also allowing Indian and Chinese nationals to monopolize the employment-based green card system for at least a decade. Amazon and Facebook also lobbied Congress to increase the process known as “chain migration” whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the United States. Already, 7-in-10 legal immigrants arrive via chain migration among the roughly 1.2 million legal immigrants that are rewarded green cards every year. Most significantly, Washington, D.C. lobbyists for Amazon and Facebook were vital in the push for President Joe Biden’s failed “Build Back Better Act” which would have provided amnesty to most of the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens as well as limitless immigration for corporations. Tech lobbyists have enjoyed a close financial relationship with elected Republicans and Democrats in recent decades. For instance, a review of Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that Amazon’s top lobbyist has recently donated to the Buckeye Victory Fund — which has transferred thousands in donations to the National Republican Congressional Committee — along with Reps. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Liz Cheney (R-WY), and Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). Other lobbyists for Amazon have recently donated to Reps. Patty Murray (D-WA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Angie Craig (D-MN), among others. Meanwhile, lobbyists for Facebook have recently thrown cash at Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), the National Republican Study Committee (NRSC) which is chaired by Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) |

Activists Crash Wedding Officiated by Sen. Sinema |
2021-11-01 |
[TOWNHALL] Progressive activists showed up to an Arizona wedding officiated by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema![]() (D) to protest her opposition to Democrats' massive spending plans, prompting the bride and her mother to plead with demonstrators to stop 'ruining' the event. I don't think she's following the logic of their arguments. Sinema was officiating the wedding for her personal friend last weekend when protesters arrived at the venue and began chanting while holding signs that included phrases like, "Sinema Betrays Democrats" and, "We voted for you — shouldn't you vote for us?" according to a video of the event posted to YouTube on Oct. 24. Sinema spokesperson Hannah Hurley told Tuscon.com in a statement that the senator "officiated a personal friend’s wedding at which a small group of activists protested during the private ceremony." The bride confronted the group of protesters at one point, expressing frustration over the disruption of her wedding. "Thanks for ruining my wedding. I really appreciate it," she said sarcastically. "It's just my wedding. I really wish I could enjoy my wedding without you ruining it." Later on, the bride's mother appeared in tears to plead with protesters to let her daughter enjoy her wedding day. "It's my daughter's wedding. Just for an hour — just let her get married, please. This person is not my daughter," she said of Sinema. She requested that the protesters leave for an hour during the ceremony. Some agreed to protest in silence, while one continued to shout toward the venue. |
