Guns drawn, guards spirit away Israeli envoy to Spain as BDS activists crash lecture
2023-02-12
[IsraelTimes] Video shows protesters trying to enter room where Rodica Radian-Gordon was being guarded, as member of security detail points pistol at them; she later finishes her talk

Israel’s envoy to Spain was spirited to safety by armed guards this week after a group of pro-BDS
... the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, more formally the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC). Its membership includes Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, groups listed as terrorist organizations by the U.S. Founded by Omar Barghouti as an improvement over his previous project, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, as an international effort to pressure Israel after the Intifada failed, it garnered Mr. Barghouti the Gandhi Peace Award for the economic and social ghettoization of any who dare support Israel’s existence...
activist muppets interrupted a speech she was giving at a university in Madrid.

The disturbance occurred Wednesday as Israeli Ambassador Rodica Radian-Gordon spoke at Complutense University of Madrid to mark 30 years since the signing of the Oslo Accords between Israel and the Paleostinians. After the demonstrators broke into the lecture hall, she was escorted to another room by security, which Hebrew media reports said included both Israeli and local guards.

In video from the university, the activist muppets can be seen running toward the room where the ambassador was, as one of the guards at the door draws a pistol and points it toward them. He then enters the room as other members of the security detail block the raucous protesters, who proceed to chant and wave Paleostinian flags outside.

The protesters were later dispersed by police, and Radian-Gordon resumed her address.

In a video statement, the ambassador vowed to continue speaking with students at Spanish universities, "even after the violent mostly peaceful incident."

The Foreign Ministry released a statement saying it was "shocked by the violence of the anti-Israel protesters."

"We thank the dean for determinedly and bravely leading an open and balanced academic discussion," it said.

According to the statement, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen called the ambassador Wednesday evening to laud her for "her stand against the extreme anti-Israel protesters... despite the shocking attempt to violent mostly peacefully prevent [the lecture]."

The incident came the same day that Barcelona’s mayor announced the city was suspending ties with Israel and its twinning with Tel Aviv, accusing Israel of rights abuses against Paleostinians. The next day, Madrid’s mayor offered to twin the Israeli coastal city instead, as he denounced Barcelona’s move as having a "significant stench of antisemitism."

activists to the core. Twenty-plus years into its efforts to single-out Israel and sever its cultural, economic, and academic ties with the rest of the world, BDS has nothing to show for its efforts. Not a single company, bank, or university has joined the effort. Those who have attempted even a semblance of a boycott (like Ben & Jerry’s recent refusal to sell ice cream in the West Bank), faced immediate backlash, hurried to distance themselves from BDS, and eventually walked back their boycotts. Most US states now have anti-BDS laws on their books, as does Congress. As I show below, even on the most politically active campus in the U.S., students are unfamiliar with BDS, are skeptical about the effectiveness of sanctions, and vehemently reject academic boycotts.

Two of his sons murdered Israelis — including an unborn child — in several terror attacks in recent years.

Ramallah protesters demand release of Palestinian BDS activist
2020-08-12
[IsraelTimes] Israeli sources say Mahmoud Nawajaa was arrested for ’security offenses,’ not over his role in boycott movement, but don’t reveal allegations against him.

Paleostinians rallied in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Tuesday, urging EU pressure on Israel to free a local leader of the global campaign to boycott the Jewish state.

Mahmoud Nawajaa, coordinator of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement in the Paleostinian territories, was arrested at his home in Ramallah on July 30.

Several rights groups, including Amnesia Amnesty International, have called for his release.

"He has been detained solely for exercising his rights to freedom of expression and association and is therefore a prisoner of conscience," Amnesty said in an August 7 blurb.

More than 100 protesters gathered outside the German delegation office in Ramallah
...an entire century? Golly.
urging the country, which currently holds the European body’s rotating presidency, to lobby Israel.
Because that will matter? But the EU long since made its preferences clear, and to do more could threaten the lucrative EU-Israel trade.
"Our main message to the European Union

and to Germany is that you need to intervene with the Israelis, force them to uphold human rights

and those who defend them," said Omar Barghouti, a co-founder of BDS.

The movement calls for a wide-ranging embargo of Israel over its treatment of the Paleostinians.

Israeli sources familiar with Nawajaa’s case who requested anonymity told AFP that he was arrested for "security offenses," not over his role in BDS.

They did not detail the nature of the allegations against him and Nawajaa has not been charged in court.

Israel sees BDS as a strategic threat and accuses it of anti-Semitism.

Activists strongly deny the charge, comparing the embargo to the economic isolation that helped bring down apartheid in South Africa.

Last year, Israel rejected a visa extension request of the country director of Human Rights Watch, Omar Shakir, after accusing him of supporting BDS — a claim he denied.

Security forces arrest Palestinians terrorist suspects
2020-04-01
Another tale of an entire clan of Palestinian jihadis. There are little Barghoutis busily employed making mischief all through the Rantburg archives.
[Jpost] Troops arrested father of deadly 2018 Givat Assaf, Ofra shooter

Israeli security forces have arrested two Paleostinians in the Ramallah area, including the father of a terrorist responsible for two deadly attacks against soldiers and civilians in 2018.

Border Police officers arrested them on suspicion of involvement in several terrorist incidents in recent months, the Israel Police said Tuesday.

During the operation, hundreds of local residents threw stones, Molotov cocktails, bottles of paint and other objects toward the troops, who responded with riot-dispersal measures, including tear gas and stun grenades.

Security forces raided two Ramallah-area villages and detained Omar Barghouti and his son Mohammed in Kobar and Mahmoud Murrar, a lawyer from Budrus, according to Wafa (Paleostine News Agency).

Omar Barghouti is the father of Asam and Saleh Barghouti, who carried out a shooting attack at Ofra junction in December 2018 that maimed seven Israelis. A newborn child, who was delivered prematurely as a result of the attack, died three days later.

Asam Barghouti is suspected of carrying out another shooting attack days outside the Givat Assaf outpost, south of Ofra, in which two IDF soldiers, St.-Sgt.Yuval Mor Yosef and and Sgt. Yosef Cohen were killed. Two more Israelis were maimed: a female resident of Beit El and another soldier, Netanel Felber, who remains at death's door.

Saleh was rubbed out by soldiers during an arrest attempt on December 12, a day before the Givat Assaf shooting.

Omar Barghouti, a Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, leader in the West Bank, has spent 39 years in Israeli prisons for security-related crimes. He was first arrested by the IDF in 1978 for killing an Israeli citizen. He has been repeatedly held in administrative detention for several years. He entered Israeli prison as a member of Fatah but later became a prominent leader of Hamas.

Hamas’s military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, took credit for the 2018 Ofra attack shortly after Saleh Barghouti was killed by IDF troops, praising it and saying that it proved that the resistance was alive in the West Bank.

Israel’s interior minister moves to deport BDS founder Barghouti
2019-10-07
[Jpost] Interior Minister Arye Deri took the first steps toward revoking the permanent resident status of Omar Barghouti,
...one of a long list of members of the Barghouti clan who have prosecuted the war against Israel for over a generation, both politically and as terrorists for both Fatah and Hamas. This one organizes academic boycotts of Israel as well as BDS...
founder of the antisemitic and anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
...formally the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC). Its multi-partisan membership includes Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, groups listed as terrorist organizations by the US...
"I plan to act quickly to revoke Omar Barghouti’s resident status in Israel," Deri said on Sunday.
Ululululululululu!
"He is a person who is doing everything to hurt the country, and therefore, he cannot enjoy the privilege of being a resident of Israel."

Deri instructed the legal department of the Population, Immigration and Borders Authority to prepare the legal framework to revoke Barghouti’s resident status over breach of trust.

The interior minister’s decision came after Deputy Attorney-General Dina Zilber said he has the authority to do so. A 2018 amendment to the residence law allows the interior minister to cancel resident status over breach of trust, without approval from the Attorney-General’s Office.

In this case, the breach of trust is that Barghouti is promoting boycotts against Israel from within Israel, Deri’s front man explained.
To be fair, he also promotes boycotts against Israel from outside Israel. He’ll be able to do that more easily once he no longer has to get permission for visas from the Israeli government, which should make CAIR and the British Labour Party memberships awfully happy...
Barghouti resides in Acre, having moved to Israel in 1993 after marrying an Israeli-Arab woman. He has a PhD in ethics from Tel Aviv University, despite calling for an academic boycott of Israel.

Barghouti opposes "a Jewish state in Paleostine in any shape or form," he said in a talk to the Dag Hammarskjold Society in 2013.

He does not speak to Israeli media and therefore was unavailable for comment.

"Barghouti led a determined battle against the occupation and settlements," said Joint List MK Ahmed Tibi. "He received his resident status legally, and did not commit a crime other than expressing clear and determined stances here in Israel and in the world against the occupation and colonialism and used the same methods the blacks used in South Africa.

"Boycott is a legitimate nonviolent mode of struggle," he added. "Deri’s intention is arbitrary, and an attempt to silence all actions against the occupation even if they are nonviolent."
Taqiyyah. Israel recognizes the soft jihad of the law as well as the hard jihad of the sword, so you aren’t fooling anyone, O Joint List MK.

Britain
BDS founder unable to attend UK Labour event due to visa holdup
2019-09-21
[IsraelTimes] Paleostine Solidarity Campaign blames delay in handling of Omar Barghouti’s visa request on ’growing efforts by Israel and its allies to suppress Paleostinian voices’.

A founder of the Paleostinian-led boycott movement against Israel will be unable to speak at an event at the UK Labour Party’s upcoming annual conference due to his visa request being delayed.

The Paleostine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), a pro-BDS group hosting the event on the sidelines of the Labour conference in Brighton, on Friday said Omar Barghouti would instead address the gathering by video due to the UK government’s "unexplained, abnormal delay" in issuing him a visa.

"The unprecedented delay in processing Barghouti’s travel visa application by the British government is part and parcel of the growing efforts by Israel and its allies to suppress Paleostinian voices and the movements for Paleostinian rights," PSC said in a statement.

Barghouti had been set to speak at the "Paleostine in the age of Trump" event alongside Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott and Unite union chief Len McCluskey, both allies of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

"They fear our shining a light of truth that reveals their lies. They dread our tireless quest for freedom, justice and equality," Barghouti said, according to the PSC statement.

There was no immediate comment from the UK Home Office, which handles visa requests.

Corbyn, a strong critic of Israel, has said he doesn’t support the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, though at the Labour conference last year the party passed a motion calling to ban all UK weapons sales to Israel.

Since becoming Labour leader in 2015, Corbyn has come under scrutiny for his criticism of Israel and past contacts with the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, and Hezbollah terror groups, both sworn to Israel’s destruction.

Labour and Corbyn himself have also been rocked by accusations of anti-Semtisim, with fresh scrutiny coming after a number of former party officials accused him and his allies of interfering in efforts to address the issue, in a recent BBC program.

Earlier this year, Barghouti was denied entry to the US for a multi-city speaking tour.

The Arab American Institute said at the time that Barghouti, a resident of Acre who is married to an Arab Israeli and holds Israeli permanent resident status, was not provided an explanation for his denial of entry beyond being told it was an "immigration matter."

James Zogby, the head of the Arab American Institute, called Barghouti’s ban an "arbitrary political decision," and accused the Trump administration of working to "silence Paleostinian voices."

Israel has barred Barghouti from leaving the county a number of times in recent years, by refusing to renew travel documents granted to Paleostinian residents of Israel who do not have full citizenship.

The BDS campaign advocates boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israeli businesses, universities and artists. Supporters say BDS is a nonviolent movement for Paleostinian independence, but Israel claims it aims to delegitimize the Jewish state, and it has been condemned by many as anti-Semitic at its roots.

Drawing the Back the Curtain: Hamas Runs International BDS Campaign From Gaza
2019-05-28
[Jpost] The US and EU classified terrorist organization Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", is waging a Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against the Jewish state, revealing violent structures of a movement that claims to use peaceful tactics.

Dr. Basem Naim described himself as "Head of Boycott Campaign & Hamas Official" in a May 17 statement protesting the German Bundestag’s (parliament) resolution recognizing BDS as an antisemitic campaign.

Naim wrote that "We condemn passing this unfair resolution by the German Bundestag that is against the Paleostinian people’s right to resist the Israeli occupation, which is the most terrible occupation in history, with all means possible, given that boycott is a peaceful means of resistance against the Israeli occupation."

Israel’s government does not occupy the Hamas-controlled Gazoo Strip. In 2005, the Israeli government withdrew from Gazoo.

Naim added "On the other hand, we call on Germany to reverse this resolution for it provides support for the Israeli occupation and protects it from being held accountable for crimes committed against the Paleostinian people. Moreover, this move does not serve security and stability in the region. We expect Germany to provide support for the Paleostinian people until they restore their freedom and establish their independent state."

The non-binding German Bundestag resolution said the BDS campaign, including its "Don’t Buy" stickers, recalled "the most terrible chapter in German history" and revived memories of the Nazi movement’s slogan "Don’t buy from Jews."

"The pattern of argument and methods of the BDS movement are antisemitic," the resolution noted.

The parliament’s resolution said the government should not finance organizations that support BDS or question the existence of the Jewish state. Neo-Nazi parties in Germany such as The Third Way and the National Democratic Party (NPD) advocate BDS against Israel.

The role of the violent jihadi organization Hamas in BDS raises question marks over claims of non-violence from Omar Barghouti, a Paleostinian activist and the cofounder of the BDS movement. After Barghouti was denied entry into the United States in April, he told the Russia state-controlled outlet: "The US administration has been mobilized now to do Israel’s bidding in trying to silence Paleostinian, Israeli and international human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
defenders, who are active in this extremely effective and very important non-violent BDS movement." Russia Today, or RT, frequently promotes a sympathetic view of BDS activists and the economic warfare campaign against Israel.

BDS activists disrupted a talk in May in Aurich, Germany held by the Israeli author Arye Sharuz Shalicar. In 2017, BDS activists stormed a panel discussion with the Israeli Holocaust survivor Deborah Weinstein in Berlin.

Former Miss Iraq lashes out against Pink Floyd's Roger Waters
2019-05-13
[Jpost] Ex-Pink Floyd member Roger Waters has been one of Israel's strongest critics. Now, less than a week before the Eurovision song contest is meant to take place in Tel Aviv, he has vamped up his anti-Israel efforts, calling on the world to boycott the Eurovision contest this year.

Former Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan, took to Twitter to speak out against Waters' recent rhetoric, condemning his support of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

"An artist has power to inspire, wrote Idan. "Make sure you use your power for good and to bring people together. I never understood artists who boycott an entire country, you’re singing for people not for governments."

Roger Waters took to social media on Thursday afternoon to express his pride in a Swiss petition that demanded Eurovision "pull out of the finals in Tel Aviv," during which he compared Israelis to aliens, although "it's giving aliens a bad name."

Waters spoke of a conversation he had with BDS founder Omar Barghouti, who told him about the petition, which was signed by 136,000 Swiss people.

Two years ago, Idan's family left Iraq due to threats to their lives, some allegedly from Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, over her modeling in a bikini and posting photos taken with Miss Israel on social media.

Idan now lives in the United States and the rest of her family has now fled the country, Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman, told Channel 13 news. Gandelsman said she has been in touch with Idan since the pageant and that the two women have a special relationship.

"She did it to so that people can understand that it’s possible to live together," Gandelsman said. "In order for people to see that we can connect, in the end we are both human beings."

Idan has not removed the photo from her Instagram account and has defended the photo in a post written in Arabic on Instagram.

"I want to stress that the purpose of the picture was only to express hope and desire for peace between the two countries," she wrote in her post. She said the photo does not signal support for the Israeli government and apologized if the photo was harmful to the Paleostinian cause.

Waters has been vocal about his anti-Israel stances, having told Madonna not to come to Israel when it was announced that she would be making an appearance at Eurovision. "If you believe in human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
... don't play in Tel Aviv," he published in a statement directed at Madonna.

Last December, Waters, responded to a Jerusalem Post article reporting that the UK Pink Floyd Experience will be performing in Israel, despite having previously canceled.

"I'm sorry you buckled boys, I could, and would, have helped you resist had you asked," Waters wrote on his Facebook page. He further explained that Israeli media is "trying to paint [him] as a wicked bully rather than a concerned human rights activist."
