Djibouti pledges cooperation in Al-Shabaab war in Somalia |
2022-10-26 |
[Garowe] The government of Djibouti has pledged close cooperation in the fight against al-Shabaab![]() within the federal republic of Somalia, which could help the country permanently annihilate the krazed killers, who control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia. On Monday, Abdulqadir Mohammed Noor, the Defense Minister of the federal government of Somalia, held a meeting with his Djiboutian counterpart Hassan Omar Mohammed where the enhanced bilateral relationship between the two countries was extensively discussed. Also in the meeting was Djibouti’s Armed Forces boss Sakarie Sheikh Ibrahim, a close supporter of the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], in which Djibouti has close to 3,500 soldiers serving, and who has been instrumental in operations against the group in Hiiraan region. During the meeting, state media reported, Nor thanked the government of Djibouti for the support they have given the federal republic of Somalia in the fight against terrorism. Djibouti's army has often been attacked by al-Shabaab on several fronts. Although Djibouti has not been lately facing threats from the al-Shabaab, the government of Omar Ismail Guelleh has been working closely with other security stakeholders to completely eliminate the al-Shabaab. The United States army has a base in Djibouti. For his part, Mr. Burhan said that the government and the people of Djibouti are fully supporting the struggle of the people and the forces of the Somali National Army are clearing out al-Shabaab holy warriors from the country, state media reported. "Therefore, Djibouti State is committed to helping the government of Somalia in ensuring security and fighting terrorism," he asserted in reference to the fight against al-Shabaab, who have lately lost strategic towns in the Horn of Africa nation. Somalia has been calling for military assistance in the fight against al-Shabaab, with the government also resorting to shaking the ideological narrative by dismembering the group's propaganda network which had previously capitalized on the ignorance of the people. |

Amid Al-Shabaab crackdown, Somalia president makes changes in military Court |
2022-10-14 |
[Garowe] The president of the federal government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has made radical changes in the Supreme Court![]() of the Armed Forces, a strategic move that would see more prosecution in cases related to In his appointment on Wednesday, Hassan Sheikh recalled Liban Ali Yarow to the Supreme Court, about three years after his unceremonious removal by the former President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo, whose fight against al-Shabaab ...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them... was always termed as "underwhelming". Hassan Sheikh, who has intensified the fight against the snuffies across the country, is said to be keen on eliminating the snuffies through both the military and ideologies, a strategy which he says will be rewarding in the long run. While confirming the changes, Defense Minister Abduqadir Mohammed Noor, who spoke to state media, wished Liban success and an effective role in the war against al-Shabaab terrorists. The court has been instrumental in dispensing high-profile terrorism cases in the Horn of Africa nation. Throughout his career in the military, Brigadier General Liban served the nation in different positions at the Court of the Armed Forces of Somalia. During Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's first term, he was created for efficiently running the court-martial, which tried many al-Shabaab criminals. Minister Noor noted Liban was named "to accelerate the role of the Armed Forces Court which is more important in the nationwide anti-terror offensives". The new Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Armed Forces comes at the time the country is confronting al-Shabaab turbans. For several weeks now, the country has been confronting al-Shabaab in several parts especially within Galgaduud, Hiiraan and Bay regions, with the Somali National Army alongside local militia recording dozens of victories, which left over 200 snuffies dead. The United States which has been instrumental in the fight against al-Shabaab has been providing aerial surveillance with the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Noor was convicted this past April after he shot and killed Damond, a 40-year-old dual citizen of the U.S. and Australia, in July 2017. She had been engaged to be married a month after the shooting unfolded. Noor shot Damond when she approached his squad car with his partner in it as they were parked in the alley behind her home. The officers said they heard a loud bang and saw Damond raise her hands on the partner's side of the car before Noor fired his weapon. Damond's death fueled a racially charged debate after a series of incidents across the U.S. involving black people being shot by white officers. In this case, Noor, a Somali American, shot Damond, who is white, and whose family received a $20 million settlement from the city.

Mohamed Noor, cop who killed bride-to-be, expresses regret over joining force |
2019-04-27 |
![]() "If I knew this would happen, I never would have become a cop," Mohammed Noor said while being questioned by his lawyer, Tom Plunkett, in Hennepin County District Court on Thursday. The former officer testified that he thought Justine Damond ‐ a 40-year-old yoga teacher who called 911 to report a disturbance at her home ‐ was "a threat" when she approached his police vehicle in her pink pajamas in July 2017, local NBC affiliate KARE 11 reported. Noor, 32, told jurors he fired his gun because he heard a loud bang on the driver’s door and thought his partner Matthew Harrity’s life was in danger. When he realized she was not armed, he became frozen with grief, he testified. "I felt like my whole world came crashing down. Great anguish. Couldn’t breathe. [I had] slight paralysis," Noor said ‐ and then began crying, according to Twincities.com. He later told a lawyer for the prosecution, "I had to make a split-second decision." Noor shot Damond in the stomach after he was called to her home around 11:30 p.m. July 15, 2017, to investigate a possible assault. He has claimed he saw a man on a bike riding toward Damond’s house right before the shooting ‐ and that he acted in self-defense. |

Sydney man pleads with Australian gov’t to return home from Syria |
2019-04-02 |
[ALMASDARNEWS] A Sydney man is pleading to the Australian government to allow him to return home with his wife and three children after spending several years living in the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) occupied areas of Syria. Mohammed Noor Masri, 26, told the Australian media on Sunday that he’s prepared to face a lengthy jail sentence in Australia for his "mistake" but wants his pregnant wife, who is also Australian, and their three young children, brought out of Syria. Masri surrendered himself to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) last month after the latter besieged the Baghouz Camp inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate of eastern Syria. The Australian national claimed that he never hurt anyone while living inside the ISIS-occupied areas, adding that he was misled when he moved to Syria a few years ago. "[I feel] remorseful, regretful. I mean, people make mistakes. And you have to pay the price for your mistake," Masri said. "What do I think should happen to me now? Whatever God decrees. I’m accepting of that." "I would prefer to be prosecuted in Australia or under international law because you have things such as human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... and ... justice, so that would be the preferred option." Masri insisted he traveled to Syria in January 2015 not as a terrorist but as a misguided devotee of a pure observance of Islam. "I didn’t see the heads on spikes," he said, referring to the well-known practice in al-Raqqa’s main square. "I didn’t see any heads or severed bodies and stuff like that. I wasn’t the type of person to be running around the shops too much ... and I don’t like to see beheadings. I don’t like to see those sort of scenes. Nor do I agree with it." Masri said he worked in a hospital where his trade skills as a fridge and air-conditioning electrician were put to use. Should Masri return to Australia, he will face at least ten years in prison for supporting a terrorist organization. |

Trial Begins for ex-U.S. Cop who Fatally Shot Australian Woman
2019-04-02 | |||
[AnNahar] Jury selection began Monday in the murder trial of a former Minnesota police officer who fatally shot an unarmed Australian woman in 2017, provoking outrage in the United States and in the victim's home country. Police say Mohammed Noor shot Justine Damond in Minneapolis in July 2017 while in the passenger seat of his police car. She had approached the cruiser after calling police to report a possible rape in the dark alley behind her home. Damond was shot once in the abdomen and died at the scene.
He has pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." The murder charges carry sentences of up to 25 years for the second-degree charge and up to 10 years for the third-degree. The prosecution has claimed Noor acted unreasonably -- shooting at someone he did not clearly see, while his partner was in the line of fire. Noor's attorneys have indicated they plan to mount a self-defense argument. Attorney Tom Plunkett has said his client "acted as he has been trained and consistent with established departmental policy." - NOOR'S WORK HISTORY BARRED - Dozens of prospective jurors were given initial instructions Monday and handed questionnaires. Court proceedings ended by late morning and were scheduled to resume Wednesday. The presiding judge, Kathryn Quaintance, has barred prosecutors from presenting evidence of Noor's past work history. That history includes an incident in which Noor allegedly pointed a gun at a motorist during a traffic stop, and occasionally refused to respond to police calls,
Minnesota Public Radio reported that Noor was deemed "asocial and socially introverted" in his pre-employment psychological test, but that there were no signs of disqualifying mental illness. Damond's killing caused international outrage. The 40-year-old Australian had moved to the United States to marry her American fiance, Don Damond, whose name she had already legally adopted, changing from her maiden name Ruszczyk. Her Australian relatives and the country's government demanded an explanation, while protests in Minneapolis led to the resignation of the city's police chief. Across the country, prosecutors have had difficulty securing convictions against officers accused of wrongful shootings that often include racial overtones. Trials have mostly resulted in hung juries or acquittals, which at times have caused civil unrest in American cities. Another Minnesota officer, Jeronimo Yanez, was fired from his job but acquitted after fatally shooting black motorist Philando Castile in 2016. There were several days of protests in Saint Louis, Missouri in 2017, after a judge concluded there was not enough evidence to convict former officer Jason Stockley for shooting Anthony Lamar Smith after a 2011 car chase. In reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown ... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,... , Jason Van Dyke was convicted of murder for killing black teen Laquan McDonald. The 17-year-old was shot 16 times, with most of those bullets striking him after he fell to the ground.
