Belgium Jewish museum killer transferred to France over 2013 Syria kidnappings
2019-05-18
[IsraelTimes] French jihadist, who killed four people in 2014 anti-Semitic rampage, is accused of acting as jailer to 4 French journalists taken hostage in Aleppo.

Belgian authorities have transferred Mehdi Nemmouche,
...the fatherless Algerian-Frenchman who spent his childhood between foster homes and jail before turning to radical Islam. He is linked to Salim Benghalem, the leader of the Buttes-Chaumont terrorist network and France’s chief ISIS recruiter, as well as several other significant personages in our archives. Mr. Nemmouche is said to be the first foreign fighter to return to stage a terror attack on European soil for his 2014 attack on the Jewish Museum of Brussels...
the French jihadist who killed four people at a Jewish museum in 2014, to Gay Paree for questioning over his suspected role in the kidnapping of four journalists in Syria in 2013, a legal source said Friday.

Nemmouche, 34, was sentenced to life in prison in March for the anti-Semitic rampage in Brussels, when he bumped off two Israeli tourists, a French volunteer and a young Belgian employee.

The museum attack came after his return from Syria’s battlefields, where Nemmouche is accused of acting as the jailer of four French journalists taken hostage by jihadists in the northern city of Aleppo in 2013.

During his Brussels trial two of the journalists testified they had no doubt Nemmouche was one of their captors.

He was brought to La Belle France on Wednesday and is being held at the Meaux-Chauconin prison east of Gay Paree, the legal source said, confirming a report in French magazine L’Express.

Nemmouche and Nacer Bendrer, his accomplice in the museum attack, were already expected to serve their sentences in La Belle France.

Even before the Brussels trial a French judge had summoned Nemmouche to La Belle France for questioning about the kidnapping, but he had refused to speak.

Brussels Jewish museum killer facing jail says 'life goes on'
2019-03-12
[PULSE.NG] A French jihadist found guilty of shooting dead four people in a terrorist attack at Brussels' Jewish museum joked Monday "life goes on" as prosecutors demanded he be placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for life.

A jury last week convicted Mehdi Nemmouche of "terrorist murder" for the anti-Semitic gun rampage in the Belgian capital on May 24, 2014, a crime committed following his return from Syria's battlefields.

The 33-year-old said "life goes on" with a smirk in his final words before the jury retired to consider his sentence, after prosecutors branded him a "coward" and a "psychopath" and demanded a tough sentence.

"What we ask, without the slightest hesitation, is that you sentence Mehdi Nemmouche to life in prison," prosecutor Yves Moreau told the Brussels criminal court.

After hearing closing statements from prosecution and defence lawyers, the 12 jurors and three judges left to decide what punishment he should face, with an announcement expected by the evening.

Nemmouche was found to have killed the four victims in less than 90 seconds, shooting them with a handgun and a Kalashnikov rifle with what one paramedic who attended the scene called "surgical" precision.

Prosecutors also demanded a minimum 30-year prison sentence for Nacer Bendrer, 30, who was found guilty of being the co-author of the attack because he supplied the weapons Nemmouche used.

"Mr Nemmouche, you are just a coward, you kill people by shooting them from behind, you kill old women by shooting them with an assault rifle, you kill because it gives you pleasure to kill," Moreau said.

Urging the jury to take a firm line, Moreau said: "If you say that in Belgium one can be a terrorist without being punished very severely, then we must not be surprised to see people arrive in this country with bombs or assault rifles in their suitcases."

Bendrer said he was ashamed that he had ever met Nemmouche, saying "he's not even a man, he's a monster".

Prosecutors say the attack was the first carried out in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
by a jihadist returning to the continent after fighting in Syria.

The Brussels killings came 18 months before the November 2015 Gay Paree attacks which left 130 people dead.

Nemmouche denied the charges against him, with his lawyers alleging that the museum shooting was not the work of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group but a possible "targeted execution" aimed at Mossad agents.

Frenchman Convicted of Jewish Museum Terror Murders
2019-03-08
[AnNahar] Frenchie Mehdi Nemmouche was found guilty Thursday of the "terrorist murders" of four people at Brussels' Jewish museum, the first case of a Syria jihad veteran to stage an attack in Europe.

Nemmouche, 33, sporting a trimmed beard and wearing a navy blue sweater, showed no emotion and stared into space as the verdict was delivered. He now faces a life sentence for the anti-Semitic attack in the Belgian capital on May 24, 2014, following his return from Syria's battlefields.

Sentencing could be as early as Friday.

The 12 jurors, accompanied by the presiding judge and two other magistrates, had deliberated for more than two days in secret at a Brussels hotel before returning their verdict.

Nemmouche was found to have killed the four victims in cold blood in less than 90 seconds, but he denied the accusation telling the court he had been "tricked."

This referred to arguments made by defence lawyers that Nemmouche was not to blame for the cold-blooded slaughter, but that he was caught up in some kind of plot targeting the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. The legal argument had centered around Israeli couple Miriam and Emmanuel Riva, the first two of the four people killed in the attack.

A young Belgian employee, Alexandre Strens, and French volunteer Dominique Sabrier were also murdered.

According to the defense, the museum shooting was not the work of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group but a "targeted execution" aimed at Mossad agents. The defense said the Israeli couple who were killed were in fact Mossad agents murdered by another man who had hunted them down.

The Riva family's lawyers have furiously rejected the theory and said attempts to pass off the tourists as secret agents was "an absolute scandal."

"Let's stop the joking," prosecutor Yves Moreau told the court earlier this week, describing the arguments presented by the defense as "complete nonsense" against compelling evidence.

Miriam Riva worked for Mossad but, as an accountant, she was not operational, said the investigating judges who traveled to Israel during their investigation.
And really, why would anyone deliberately murder an accountant? That’s crazy talk.
- 'DEEPLY CONVINCED' -
Yohan Benizri, the head of Belgium's Coordinating Committee of Jewish Organizations, denounced what he called a "nauseating conspiracy theory."

The 12 jurors also found fellow Frenchie Nacer Bendrer, 30, who was accused of supplying the weapons, to be the co-author of the attack.

The investigation showed that the two men had dozens of telephone conversations in April 2014, when Nemmouche was preparing for the killings.

Six days after the massacre, Nemmouche was placed in durance vile
You have the right to remain silent...
in the French city of Marseille in possession of a revolver and a Kalashnikov-type assault rifle.

At the trial, Bendrer admitted that Nemmouche had asked him for a Kalashnikov when he came to Brussels in early April, but claimed he never delivered it.

Among other personal effects, Nemmouche upon arrest carried a nylon jacket with gunshot residue, as well as a computer in which Sherlocks found six videos claiming the attack with an off-camera voiceover thought to be Nemmouche. In total, the prosecution said it had identified 23 pieces of evidence pointing to Nemmouche, who also physically resembles the shooter seen on the museum's surveillance video.

"We are both deeply convinced that the two accused did indeed commit these acts," one of the two prosecutors said in their indictment.

The prosecutors say the attack was the first carried out in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
by a jihadist returning from fighting in Syria.

The Brussels killings came 18 months before the November 13, 2015, Gay Paree attacks which left 130 dead.
The Times of Israel has background:
Mehdi Nemmouche has been convicted of carrying out Europe’s first terror attack by an Islamist fighter returning from the war in Syria. But his journey from a French foster home to a Brussels court began not in a Middle Eastern desert but in a run-down industrial town.

Separately, he is also accused of acting as the jailer of four French journalists taken hostage by jihadists in Aleppo in 2013.

Nemmouche is already a case study in the radicalization of some young European Moslems. Belgium and La Belle France, in particular, fear the defeat of groups like the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Syria will send more angry young men homewards. But Nemmouche seems to have been on a radical path long before he set off, in early 2013, for the so-called "caliphate" on the Euphrates.

The investigation into the May 2014 massacre in the museum has pieced together elements of his background.

TROUBLED AND ANGRY YOUTH
Nemmouche was born on April 17, 1985, in the northern French town of Roubaix, to a family of Algerian origin. He never knew his father and his mother was judged not "capable" of raising him, Sherlocks say.

Aged only three months, he was moved to a foster family in the northern industrial city of Lille, where he would stay ‐ off and on ‐ until he was 16. But his upbringing was not stable. He would make difficult trips to stay with his grandparents, and sometimes to care homes or a Gay Pareeian orphanage.

His foster parents, in documents seen by AFP, describe him as an “angry” youth, “capable of the worst as well as the most kindly” acts.

He committed his first known crime at 13, then at 16, he spent three weeks in a juvenile prison for a hold-up with an air pistol after being convicted by a children’s court. His criminal record grew ever longer in his late teens, with traffic offenses and muggings, and his grandmother lost track of him after his second jail term.

In 2007, aged 22, he headed to Provence in southern France after gaining a vocational qualification as an electrician, but soon fell back into trouble.

‘SADISTIC AND NARCISSISTIC’
Between December 2007 and December 2012, he spent five years in custody — and investigators believe this is when his ideas hardened. In prison, he was known as an “extremist proselytizer” who tried to organize group prayer and spoke of jihad and the 1995 “genocide of Muslims in Bosnia.” This linked him to the “Roubaix gang” — French Islamists who returned from the Bosnian war and carried out robberies to fund Al-Qaeda, some of whom he knew.

When his grandmother saw him in Tourcoing in December 2012, he had a long beard and was praying daily, something she had not seen before.

Less is known about his experiences in Syria, but three former French hostages have identified him as their “strict and violent” overseer. They say he did not hide his admiration for Mohammed Merah, who murdered three French soldiers, a Jewish teacher and three young children in Toulouse in 2012. Former hostage Nicolas Henin told the trial last month that he had “absolutely no doubt” that Nemmouche was his jailer and torturer in Syria. Henin described him as a “sadistic, playful and narcissistic” man.

Nemmouche, who was extradited to Belgium over the museum shooting after being arrested in Marseille, will go on trial in France over the hostages at a later date.

Held under tight security at a prison in Leuze-en-Hainaut, his lawyers describe him as a man of “steely will” who was bearing up well under the pressure of incarceration.

Belgian prosecutors probe intimidation Jewish Museum attack lawyer
2019-01-31
[IsraelTimes] Belgian prosecutors say they are investigating an apparent attempt to intimidate a lawyer in the trial of a suspect in the 2014 shooting attack at the Brussels Jewish Museum.

The Brussels prosecutor’s office say that a baseball bat and false Kalashnikov assault rifle were left on the lawyer’s desk after a theft at his office yesterday . A laptop computer containing the case file of Mehdi Nemmouche, who stands accused of shooting dead four people at the museum, was stolen from the lawyer’s office.

State broadcaster RTBF names the lawyer as Vincent Lurquin, who was representing a woman at the museum when the attack happened.

Prosecutors say they are investigating the theft and intimidation, described as "threat by symbols."

The trial is scheduled to run until March 1.

Jewish museum attack victims shot with 'surgical' precision
2019-01-22
[PULSE.NG] Victims of the Jewish museum attack in Brussels were shot with "surgical" precision, first responders said Monday at the trial of French national Mehdi Nemmouche.

Nemmouche, 33, the alleged jihadist gunman, faces life in prison if convicted of the charges of murdering four people during the anti-Semitic attack on May 24, 2014.

Paramedics who attended the scene told the Brussels criminal court they first found a man and women dead in the museum's entrance hall. Each had been shot in the head at point blank range.

Inside the museum reception they then found a third victim who was "unconscious and shaking violently" before sedating him in order to provide first aid.

The victim was a young man with "a bullet in the middle of the head", first responder Benoit Claessens said, pointing to the space between both eyes.

"This precision was surgical," Claessens told the court, as he struggled to maintain his composure.

Charlyne Lietard, a nurse in the same rescue team, echoed his comments.

"These are people who appear to have been executed, given the precision of the shots," Lietard told the court.

Both emergency workers described entering a "shocking" scene where it was stressful to work because they did not know whether the gunman was still present.

It was only later that witnesses said the gunman had fled, disappearing into the crowd outside, carrying the two dark bags he had arrived with.

The two bodies in the entrance hall were identified as Emmanuel Riva and his wife Miriam. The third victim was Alexandre Strens, 26, who died in hospital two weeks later.

Emergency workers later found a fourth body, that of French museum volunteer Dominique Sabrier, 60.

Nacer Bendrer, a 30-year-old fellow Frenchie who allegedly supplied Nemmouche with the weapons, also faces life in prison if convicted of the same charge of terrorist murder.

Investigators said Nemmouche attacked the museum shortly after returning from Syria, where he had allegedly fought on behalf of jihadist groups.

Six days after the attack, Nemmouche was tossed in the clink
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in the southern French port city of Marseille. Bendrer was arrested in Marseille in December 2014.

The trial is due to last until the end of February or early March. Both defendants were present in court on Monday, as they have been since the trial started on January 10.

Brussels Jewish Museum Gunman Linked to Other Jihadists
2019-01-16
[Breitbart] The Frenchman accused of murdering four people at the Jewish museum of Belgium had links with other jihadists, including those behind the Brussels and Paris attacks, investigators say.

At least one lawyer wants to see if defendant Mehdi Nemmouche sheds more light on such links during his trial that opened last Thursday for the May 24, 2014 museum shooting spree.

The first opportunity may come on Tuesday when Nemmouche begins testifying in his defence in a Brussels criminal court.

Guillaume Lys, the lawyer for the French Association of Victims of Terrorism (AFVT), hopes his cross-examination may yield more detail about the November 13, 2015 Paris attacks.

"Our goal is to be able to have more information about the links between these people and others whom we know and who committed other acts," said Lys, who represents a civil party in the trial.

The following links have already been established by investigators:

‐ ABDELHAMID ABAAOUD ‐
Weeks before the Jewish museum attack, Nemmouche was in regular telephone contact with Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the presumed mastermind of the Paris attacks that killed 130 people and wounded hundreds more.

Abaaoud was killed in a police shootout days after those attacks.

French jihadist’s DNA, fingerprints were on Brussels museum attack weapons
2019-01-14
[IsraelTimes] Mehdi Nemmouche accused of being the first Syrian jihad veteran to carry out an attack in Europe, faces life sentence if convicted of 2014 shooting that killed 4.

A Frenchie on trial for shooting dead four people at a Jewish museum in Brussels left his fingerprints and DNA on the weapons used in the terror attack, prosecutors said Friday.

Mehdi Nemmouche, 33, listened to the case unfolding against him on the second day of his trial for the cold-blooded murders in the Belgian capital on May 24, 2014.

"Little by little they are putting the puzzle together," said lawyer Guillaume Lys of a French terror victims association which is a civil party to the trial.

Both Nemmouche and Nacer Bendrer, a fellow Frenchie aged 30 who allegedly supplied the weapons, face life in prison if convicted of charges of terrorist murder.

Reading the charge sheet, a prosecutor told the Brussels criminal court that Sherlocks lifted Nemmouche’s fingerprints from the barrel of the pistol he used in the museum attack.

The prosecutor added they also found his DNA on a Kalashnikov rifle, the second weapon used.

Both were found in Nemmouche’s possession when he was tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
upon arriving on a bus from Brussels in the southern French port of Marseille six days after the attack, Sherlocks say.

The prosecutor added Sherlocks found gunpowder residue on a blue jacket among his belongings. The museum shooter was seen wearing a similar jacket.

Investigators also studied videos from a laptop found in his possession where they heard an "imperious and guttural" voice claiming responsibility for the killings, the prosecution said.

Experts identified the voice as Nemmouche’s, it added.

Four French journalists who were taken hostage in Syria in 2013 also attributed the voice to Nemmouche, who they allege was one of their jailers, the prosecution said.

The trial is due to resume on Tuesday when Nemmouche’s lawyers present their defense strategy and their client takes the stand for questioning.

The case is the first allegedly carried out on European soil by a jihadist returning from Syria.

82 seconds of terror at Brussels' Jewish museum
2019-01-08
[SG.NEWS.YAHOO] A shadow creeps behind two visitors just inside the Jewish museum in Brussels. A man emerges, arm extended as he fires a pistol into their necks.

The first bullet kills Emanuel Riva, the second, his wife Miriam, with the couple dropping to the floor in a ghoulish scene captured by the museum's security cameras.

Neither Israeli tourist sees the shooter coming as they are engrossed in the museum's prospectus.

They are the first of four people to die in the museum attack on May 24, 2014. Charged with those murders, Frenchie Mehdi Nemmouche
...Algerian-Frenchman radicalized in prison and trained in Syria, linked to Salim Benghalem, the leader of the Buttes-Chaumont terrorist network and France’s chief ISIS recruiter, as well as several other significant personages in our archives. Mr. Nemmouche is said to be the first foreign fighter to return to stage a terror attack on European soil...
goes on trial in Brussels on Thursday.
Finally, after years in solitary confinement, poor dear. Then there will be the second trial for holding those nice people hostage in Syria — they’ve got him cold for that.
Dressed in a blue jacket with a cap on his head, the shooter then walks resolutely up to the reception desk and accosts a young employee, firing a bullet into his forehead.

Alexandre Strens, 26, dies of his injuries two weeks later.

In a small room nearby a woman curls up in panic behind her desk. The gunman fires at her but misses so he takes an assault rifle out of one of the two bags he brought with him.

The door locks automatically before he opens fire and kicks it open. He walks toward her, fires three shots, two of them into her head.

Collapsing under her desk, Dominique Sabrier, a French volunteer in her sixties, becomes his fourth victim.

The gunman tucks away his weapon and leaves the museum without a word. Witnesses say he left the scene calmly before melting into the crowd on that spring Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say the four murders took only 82 seconds. The shooter fired a total of 13 shots, five from his handgun and eight from the Kalashnikov rifle.

In the following days, Belgian police send out an appeal for witnesses along with video images of the killer.

- GUNS ON A BUS -
Six days later, on May 30, 2014, a Eurolines bus plying the Amsterdam-Brussels-Marseille route arrives around midday in the southern French port city.

Three border control officers decide to carry out an unannounced check.

On board are 15 passengers, including a clean-shaven Frenchie in a suit and tie. It is Mehdi Nemmouche, who informs the authorities he has travelled from the Belgian capital.

On an empty seat not far away from Nemmouche, who is 29 at the time, an officer spots a plastic bag and a black bag that no passenger claims.

Opening the heavy bag, he finds an assault rifle.

The three officers then search the passengers. When Nemmouche, the third to be searched, raises his hands, they find a loaded pistol in his jacket pocket.

Immediately handcuffed without resisting, he allegedly admits to owning the two bags as well as the pistol and assault rifle.

- 'FIRE AND BLOOD' -
Investigators say both weapons were used at the museum.

The officers also seize from his bags 51 bullets for the pistol and 261 for the Kalashnikov as well as well as French-language newspapers with reports of the attack.

They also find a laptop containing footage in which a voice, believed to be his, claims responsibility for the murders.

"My jacket did indeed carry a camera... but unfortunately, to my great regret, the camera did not work that day," it says before adding: "It is only the start of a series of attacks on the city of Brussels.

"We are firmly determined to put this city under fire and blood."

Alleged Brussels Jewish museum attack accomplice jailed for extortion in France
2018-09-04
[IsraelTimes] Nacer Bendrer is also accused of aiding the gunman in the Belgium attack; that trial is due to start in several months

A French court on Monday handed a five-year jail sentence for attempted extortion to Nacer Bendrer, the alleged accomplice in a 2014 terror attack at a Jewish museum in Belgium.

Frenchie Bendrer, 30, appearing in court in the southern city of Marseille denied the accusation, made by the brother of a local drug pusher, that he and another man ‐ one of them brandishing a Kalashnikov ‐ had demanded weapons and 100,000 euros.

"It’s false, completely false," said Bendrer, who had been under house arrest at the time of the 2017 extortion attempt.

The presiding judge said that the motive remained uncertain but could be linked to a dispute over a snack bar.

Bendrer has been accused in Belgium of being an accomplice to fellow Frenchie Mehdi Nemmouche,
...radicalized in prison and linked to Salim Benghalem, who was the leader of the Buttes-Chaumont terrorist network and France’s chief ISIS recruiter...
who will stand trial in Brussels for the killing of four people at a Jewish museum four years ago in a jihadist terror attack.

Their trial is expected to take place later this year or early next year.

On May 24, 2014 a gunman armed with an assault rifle opened fire in the entrance hall of the museum in the centre of the Belgian capital, killing two Israeli tourists, a French volunteer and a Belgian museum receptionist.

Six days later Nemmouche was tossed in the calaboose

in the southern French port city of Marseille getting off a bus from Brussels.

Nemmouche had returned from Syria where he had been fighting with Islamist myrmidons.

Nacer Bendrer was formally charged as an accomplice in the attack in February 2015 in Brussels, two months after his arrest near Marseille in possession of various weapons.

These included a Kalashnikov assault rifle like the one used at the Jewish museum.

Nemmouche has been linked to Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the ringleader of the November 13, 2015 Gay Paree gun and bombing attacks that killed 130 people and maimed hundreds of others.

Abaaoud died in a police shootout near the French capital days after the massacre.

The Gay Paree attacks were allegedly plotted in Brussels by the same cell that carried out the suicide kabooms in the Belgian capital’s airport and a metro train station on March 22, 2016, killing 32 people.

Suspected Brussels Jewish museum killer to stand trial
2018-04-20
[IsraelTimes] Belgian judge rules there is enough evidence against French jihadist Mehdi Nemmouche in 2014 attack that killed four, including two Israeli tourists

Frenchie Mehdi Nemmouche
...radicalized in prison and linked to Salim Benghalem, who was the leader of the Buttes-Chaumont terrorist network and France’s chief ISIS recruiter...
was ordered Thursday to stand trial in Brussels for allegedly killing four people at a Jewish museum four years ago in a jihadist attack, his lawyer said.

Judges decided there was enough evidence to try Nemmouche, 33, and alleged accomplice Nacer Bendrer, who is also French, in the Belgian capital for the attack in 2014, lawyer Henri Laquay told AFP.

He did not name a date but the trial is expected to begin later this year or early next year.

The judges decided there was not enough evidence to put Mounir Attalah, a third Frenchie linked to the attack, on trial.

On May 24, 2014 a gunman armed with an assault rifle opened fire in the entrance hall of the museum in the center of the Belgian capital, killing two Israeli tourists, a French volunteer, and a Belgian museum receptionist.

Six days later Nemmouche was enjugged

Nemmouche had returned from Syria where he had been fighting with Islamist Lion of Islams.

Nacer Bendrer was formally charged as an accomplice in the attack in February 2015 in Brussels, two months after his arrest near Marseille in possession of various weapons.

These included a Kalachnikov assault rifle like the one used at the Jewish museum.

French Suspect Handed Terror Charges over Syria Kidnapping
2017-11-16
[AnNahar] A Frenchie accused of a deadly 2014 shooting at a Brussels Jewish museum was handed preliminary terrorism charges in La Belle France Wednesday relating to a separate case in Syria, according to his lawyer.

Lawyer Francis Vuillemin said Mehdi Nemmouche
...a Frenchman of Algerian origin...
was escorted under high security for "just a few hours" to Gay Paree from Belgium, where he is currently being held, to face the French authorities.

The charges of "kidnapping and illegal sequestration with links to a terrorist enterprise" relate to allegations that Nemmouche, 32, was the jailer of four French journalists held in Syria between June 2013 and May 2014.

The lawyer said Nemmouche remained silent throughout.
...possibly because, according to Ynet, the Belgians have kept Mr Nemmouche in solitary confinement for the past three years. Perhaps one day they will actually put him on trial.
Nemmouche is suspected of gunning down four people with an assault weapon in the Brussels museum in May 2014.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the pastor had finally been wrestled from the pulpit.
Y'got the wrong guy! he yelled just before Sergeant Malone's billy club landed...

the Gay Paree prosecutor's office said that the lone surviving suspect in the massacres in La Belle France in November 2015, Salah Abdeslam,
...who has been described as a Belgian-born French national...
went before a French judge also on Wednesday in Gay Paree.

Abdeslam, 28, remained silent during the hearing into the attacks that left 130 dead in Gay Paree and its suburbs, according to the Gay Paree prosecutor's office.

Abdeslam is currently in prison in La Belle France and unlikely to face trial there for several years.
