Delhi Police Nabs Suspected ISIS Operative Shahnawaz Alam In Major Crackdown
2023-10-03
[OneIndia] In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell apprehended Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama, the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most wanted terrorist. Shahnawaz, who had a reward of Rs 3 lakhs on his head, was wanted in connection with the Pune ISIS case.

The 32-year-old engineer by profession and resident of Delhi had managed to escape from Pune police custody, triggering a massive manhunt that spanned several states.

Delhi Police Special Cell officials have also detained several individuals in connection with the case. Details about these detainees and their potential involvement in terrorist activities are yet to be disclosed. The authorities said that further investigation is underway.

The recent arrest of Shafi Uzzama is part of the NIA's ongoing efforts to apprehend individuals linked to the Pune ISIS module case. The NIA had earlier released pictures of four terror suspects wanted in connection with this case and declared a reward of Rs 3 lakh each for credible information leading to their arrest.

Shafi Uzzama, along with Talha Liyakat Khan, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali and Abdulla Faiyaz Sheikh alias Daiperwala, was the subject of an extensive nationwide manhunt.

WHAT IS PUNE ISIS MODULE CASE
Shahnawaz and two others, Mohammad Imran Mohammad Yunus Khan and Mohammad Yunus Mohammad Yakub Saki, were arrested by the Kothrud police in Pune on July 18 following their attempted theft of a two-wheeler. When the police were taking them to their residence at Kondhwa in Pune for a search, Shahnawaz jumped out of the police vehicle and managed to escape.

Police found that Khan and Saki, originally hailing from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, were allegedly involved in a separate terror case registered in Rajasthan, where explosives were discovered in a car in March 2022. Both Khan and Saki carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each on their heads.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) took over the investigation on July 22. During the course of their inquiry, the ATS arrested additional suspects, including Qadir Dastagir Pathan, an IT engineer, and SN Kazi, at Kondhwa. The agency invoked sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Khan, Saki, and other accused.

The investigation took a critical turn when Khan and Saki revealed that Shahnawaz had stored acid at Bopatghat near Kondhwa. The NIA sought the assistance of the Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad to seize the acid along with various chemicals used in bomb-making.

ATS also seized several other materials and found 500 GB data in the laptops and mobile phones of the accused which contained links to YouTube videos on making bombs and Google images of various places.

India terror suspects said to have plotted attack on Mumbai Chabad House
2023-08-01
[IsraelTimes] Two men linked to local Islamist group behind efforts to kill Hindu leaders; Israeli intelligence said involved in probe, security stepped up at Jewish sites

Two Islamic terror suspects detained in India in recent days were plotting to carry out a series of bombings and had carried out surveillance of the Chabad House in Mumbai, the scene of a deadly attack 15 years ago, Indian media reported Monday.

The reports, quoting sources in the Maharashtra state Anti-Terrorism Squad, said that during an ongoing probe into a local Islamist terror group known as Al-Sufa, two men were arrested over the weekend in the city of Pune.

They were found to be in possession of explosives, drone equipment, laptops, and incriminating books written in Arabic. Among the documents found on a phone were pictures of the Chabad House in Mumbai and its GPS coordinates, the reports said.

Seven people were killed by gunmen at Nariman Chabad House in 2008, including emissaries Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg — part of several attacks on Mumbai sites over four days by an Islamist Pakistani group. In total, 166 people were killed and hundreds injured.

Israel’s Channel 12 news reported that Israeli intelligence cooperated in the probe leading to the arrest of the two men and that, in coordination with local authorities, security at the Jewish site had been stepped up.

The report said the investigation was looking at a possible link between the suspects and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

However, Indian media reports said the Al-Sufa group, which emerged in 2015, is most likely linked to jihadist groups in Pakistan.

The ongoing probe into Al-Sufa has so far focused on plots by the group to kill prominent Hindu leaders and politicians.

The two men, identified as Mohammed Imran, 23, and Mohammed Yunus Saki, 24, both from the town of Ratlam in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, were apprehended while trying to steal a motorcycle.

Police later found that they had been living in a tent in the jungle outside Pune, some 150 kilometers (90 miles) from Mumbai, while trying to avoid capture. There they had been experimenting with building and detonating bombs, the reports said.

Apart from the 2008 Chabad attack, there have been several terror attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets in India.

In 2021, a blast outside the Israeli embassy in New Delhi damaged cars but caused no injuries, in an attack India has said was carried out by the Quds Force branch of Iran’s IRCG.

A letter found close to the scene of the blast was a death threat to the Israeli ambassador that warned he was constantly being watched and vowed to avenge the deaths of three “martyrs”: Qassem Soleimani, the IRGC commander who was killed in a January 2020 United States drone strike; Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a top Iraqi militia commander who was killed along with Soleimani; and Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the architect of Iran’s nuclear program, killed in a November 2020 attack Tehran has blamed on Israel.

NIA To Probe Bhopal-Hyderabad Hizb-ut-Tahrir Module Case
2023-06-01
[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency has taken over the probe into the recently busted Bhopal-Hyderabad Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) module.

The module was first busted by the Madhya Pradesh ATS and Intelligence Bureau. However owing to inter-state ramifications, the probe was handed over to the NIA. The agency will now register a separate case.

The operation was launched at Bhopal, Chhindwara and Hyderabad, during which 16 persons allegedly associated with the HuT were arrested.

Ten persons were arrested from Bhopal, one from Chhindwara and five from Hyderabad. The arrested persons were working in various professions such as gym trailers, tailors, computer technicians and auto drivers in their local communities. The probe also revealed that these persons had formed a group and were plotting major terror strikes. They had dangerous plots in their minds, an official said.

Following their arrest, the agencies recovered scores of documents as well as videos in which some of them were seen addressing topics relating to the Caliphate and why democracy should not exist.

Further the officials also found numbers of several Paks on them. This has led to the suspicion that they may have been directed by a handler from Pakistain.

The probe officials also learnt that these persons were conducting shooting practices and close combat training in the remote jungle areas. This is also included the distribution of Jihadi literature, an official said.Further they also delivered provocative speeches during secret religious meetings. The accused persons were scouting for young persons who were ready to undertake suicide strikes, the probe also found.

During the course of the probe, the officials also learnt that five of the suspects had married Hindu girls and converted them to Islam. The converts were a pharmacy professor from Barasia in Bhopal and a cloud service engineer from Bhopal.

module in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The operation was led by the NIA in assistance with the Intelligence Bureau and Madhya Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad. During the raid, the agencies recovered sharp-edged weapons, ammunition, incriminating documents and digital devices.

Three arrests took place during the operation, which included raids at 13 locations in Jabalpur on May 26 and 27. The three persons arrested include, Syed Mamoor Ali, Mohammad Adil Khan and Mohammad Shahid. They will be produced before a special NIA court in Bhopal.

On May 24, the NIA had started the paperwork but haven't done much else during its probe Into the alleged pro-Islamic State activities of Mohammad Adil Khan, who had come under the radar in August last year. He and his associates are accused of being involved in propagating the ideology of the Islamic State through social media platforms. They also undertook the 'Dawah' programme, the agency has also learnt.

An official tells OneIndia that the activities were carried out with the intention of unleashing violent mostly peaceful attacks in India on behalf of the Islamic State. The module has been accused of conducting meetings in local Masjids and hatching conspiracies to spread terror in India, the agency the said in a statement.

The probe also revealed that the three were highly radicalised and were determined to carry out violent mostly peaceful terror acts. They were also involved in collecting funds and propagating the ideology of the Islamic State. They were also motivating other youth to carry out attacks, while luring them to join the organization.

The NIA said that Syed Mamoor Ali had created a local group by the name of 'Fisbilillah' and was also operating a WhatsApp group in the same name. Through this he would post propaganda material, an official also said. In addition to this he was also running several other channels on YouTube, the official also said.

] The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at more than 100 locations in six states of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh in terror-narcotics smugglers-gangsters nexus cases.

The anti-terror agency in close coordination with state police forces conducted these raids since early Wednesday at the premises and other places linked to suspects. The raids are still going on. The raids are being conducted in connection with three separate cases lodged by the NIA last year-- RC 37, 38, 39/2022/NIA/DLI.

The agency on January 25 this year arrested one Deepak Ranga, the main shooter in the RPG attack on Punjab

Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in May 2022 in its case RC-37/2022/NIA/DLI, from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur as he was a close associate of Canada based gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh Sandhu alias Landa and Pakistain based gangster-turned-terrorist Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda.

Apart from his involvement in the May RPG attack, Deepak has been involved in a number of other violent mostly peaceful terrorist and criminal offences, including violent mostly peaceful killings. He has been actively receiving terror funds and logistical support from Rinda and Landa.

The NIA had registered the case suo moto on September 20, 2022, after it emerged that terrorist outfits and terror elements based abroad were operating in tandem with leaders and members of organized criminal gangs operating in northern states of the country to commit assassinations and violent mostly peaceful criminal acts. It had also emerged that the terror-gangster-drug smuggler network was also engaged in smuggling terrorist hardware, such as arms, ammunition explosives, IEDs etc across borders through a widespread inter-state network of gun runners, illegal arms and ammunition manufacturers and suppliers and explosive traffickers.

Since the registration of three criminal cases against the above terror-gangster-drug smuggler network, NIA has already arrested 19 leaders and members of various Organised criminal gangs, two Arms suppliers and one big financier connected with the network under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Canada-based Arsh Dalla has been designated as an 'individual terrorist' by the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 9, this year.

NIA’s pan-India raid unearths deadly Khalistan-Gangster nexus
2023-02-25
[OneIndia] In the recent nationwide crackdown by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) at 76 locations across eight states, six associated of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi have been arrested.

The NIA also arrested associates of Goldy Brar and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. The arrested persons include Lucky Kokar, an associate of Canada based terrorist, Arsh Dalla. The raids were carried out in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, NCR, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Kokar was nabbed from Rajasthan on Tuesday. The NIA learnt that he was in direct contact with Arsh Dalla in Canada. It was on the instructions of Dala that Kokar had carried out recent killings in Jagraon, Punjab.

The NIA said that Kokar was working for Dalla, who is notorious for smuggling arms, ammunitions, IEDs among others. The arms and ammunition were being smuggled into India to revive the Khalistan movement, the NIA has learnt.

These elements were also raising funds, recruiting youth and carrying out terror attacks on behalf of the Bishnoi gang, the NIA said.

The NIA had last year registered cases in this regard. Since the case has been registered four massive raids have been carried out by the agency.

It was also learnt that Pakistain's ISI was playing a crucial role in these incidents. The main aim of the ISI is to revive the Khalistan movement and hence was using the gangsters based abroad to carry out such incidents.

The ISI had even handpicked one Harvinder Singh Rinda, a gangster turned terrorist based in Pakistain to oversee this network.

During the raids, the NIA also arrested Hari Om alias Titu, Lakhvi Singh. Nine weapons were recovered from Lakhvir.

More such raids are on the anvil as the NIA is looking to completely dismantle this network. These raids are crucial as the Khalistan elements pose a huge threat to India. Their networks abroad are in particular worrisome and attempts are being made galore to revive the Khalistan movement.

The agencies had also learnt about the K2 or Khalistan-Kashmir

Year 2022: At 73, NIA registered highest number of cases since inception in 2009
2023-01-02
[OneIndia] India's premier agency probing terrorism, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2022 registered 73 cases.

This is an increase of 19.67 per cent when compared to 2021 where the NIA registered 61 cases. This is the highest number of case registered by the NIA since its inception following the Mumbai 26/11 attack.

These cases include 35 related to Jihadi terror in the various such as Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. , Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.

The National Investigation Agency has been probing scores of cases. One of the biggest operations that the NIA took over this year was the raids on the Popular Front of India (PFI)
…the latest identity of Pakistan sock puppet National Development Front (NDF) and the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). They’re fond of IEDs, swords, Al Qaeda and Taliban propaganda, feeding volunteers to Al Qaeda and ISIS, the perverse pleasures of Love Jihad, and have surprisingly well-trained connections with jihadis in Bangladesh and Pakistan. Unlike the usual Muslim Brotherhood branches, their political front — the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) — has not won anything. They’ll probably do worse now that they’re banned...
following which the outfit was banned. During the three different raids conducted since September, the NIA has raided nearly 200 locations and arrested over a 100 persons associated with the PFI.

The NIA was set up in 2009 following the Mumbai 26/11 attacks.
That was when members of Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai, controlled by Pakistan’s ISI, murdering 166 and maiming over 300.
In the year 2019 the government amended Schedule 6 of the Unlawful Prevention (Activities) Act following which the NIA is able designate an individual as a terrorist. Prior to this only organizations were designated as terrorist organizations.

As of August 2022, the conviction rate of the NIA stood at 93.25 per cent which is the highest for any central agency. In all the the agency has apprehended nearly 3,000 persons and among those 391 were convicted as per data available until August 2022.

Speaking at the NIA Raising Day in April, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah said that in a span of 13 years, the agency has performed exceptionally. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a terror-free India, the NIA and the UAPA were amended to strengthen the agency.

One of the key successes that the NIA was able to achieve is in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). It has literally wiped out separatism in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The NIA targeted the funding routes as a result of which the separatists lost interest in their so-called cause.

Nearly 100 arrested in NIA's 'largest-ever' raids in 11 states over terror funding charges
2022-09-23
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

In near simultaneous raids across the length and breadth of the country, a multi-agency operation spearheaded by the National Investigation Agency on Thursday led to the arrest of 106 activist muppets of the Popular Front of India in 11 states for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country, officials said.

The maximum number of arrests were made in Kerala (22) followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka (20 each), Tamil Nadu (10), Assam (9), Uttar Pradesh (8), Andhra Pradesh (5), Madhya Pradesh (4), Puducherry and Delhi (3 each) and Rajasthan (2).

According to the officials, the arrests were made during the raids which have been termed as the "largest-ever investigation process till date".

Details of the arrested activist muppets were not available immediately, but officials said the arrests were done by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the police forces of 11 states so far.

The officials said the searches are taking place at the premises of persons involved in terror funding, organising training camps, and radicalising people to join proscribed organizations.

Formed in 2006, the PFI claims to strive for a neo-social movement ostensibly for the empowerment of marginalised sections of India. It is, however, often accused by law enforcement agencies of promoting radical Islam. In a statement, the PFI said "the raids are taking place at the homes of national, state and local leaders of PFI. The state committee office is also being raided".

"We strongly protest the fascist
...anybody you disagree with, damn them...
regime's move to use agencies to silence dissenting voices," it said.

The ED has been investigating the PFI's alleged "financial links" on charges of fuelling the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in the country, the 2020 Delhi riots, alleged conspiracy in Hathras (a district in Uttar Pradesh) over alleged gang-rape and death of a Dalit woman, and a few other instances.

The Popular Front of India was formed in 2006 in Kerala and is headquartered in Delhi.

The probe agency has filed two charge sheets against PFI and its office-bearers before a special PMLA court in Lucknow.

In February last year, the ED filed its first charge sheet against PFI and its student-wing Campus Front of India (CFI)
..the student/campus wing of an Islamist organization, the Popular Front of India. PFI is an Indian jihadi group, the latest identity of the National Development Front (NDF) and the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). on money laundering charges, claiming its members wanted to "incite communal riots and spread terror" in the aftermath of the Hathras gang rape case of 2020.

Those named in the charge sheet include K A Rauf Sherif, national general secretary of CFI and a member of PFI; Atikur Rahman, national treasurer of CFI; Masud Ahmed, Delhi-based general secretary of CFI; journalist "associated with PFI" Siddique Kappan; and Mohammed Alam, another CFI/PFI member.

In the second charge sheet filed this year, the ED had claimed that a hotel based in the UAE "served" as a money laundering front for the PFI.

DGP said, "One particular case has already been handed over to NIA and shared information with Interpol to crack down Islamic radical groups in the state. NIA acted very actively. There are other cases also registered, I am sure NIA will like to take the other cases as well.""Some of them have been caught and some of them gave us a slip. The DGP said that the police team made arrests from Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Bengal, while some of them ran escaped to Bangladesh.

"The people who were caught from MP underwent training here. The people who bravely ran away to Tripura, we caught them from there. One of them has given a lead we are investigating. Bengal police are also cooperating in the operation," DGP said.

He said that these people come here with visas for tourism purposes. But then violate the visa law and stay back to spread the words of Jihad.

ISI’s honey trapping module continues to remain biggest headache for security agencies
2022-05-10
[OneIndia] Officials have learnt that the account fb.com/shaanti.patel.89737, had managed to lure some persons in the establishment and get information.

The ISI appears to be on overdrive mode and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is now probing a case where the spy agency of Pakistain is attempting to inject a malware into the computers and phones of defence personnel.

The agency took over the probe after an account named fb.com/shaanti.patel.89737, managed to gain unauthorised accedes to restricted data of computer resources.

Intelligence Bureau officials have been keeping a close watch on such activities for sometime now. Recently the Andhra Pradesh police launched a probe into the matter based on source based information. Following this the officers and soldiers were told to delete several social networking, micro-blogging and gaming applications including Facebook and Instagram.

Officials have learnt that the account fb.com/shaanti.patel.89737, had managed to lure some persons in the establishment and get information. It is a classic case of honey trapping an official tells OneIndia.

An assessment by the Intelligence agencies earlier this said that honey trapping would continue to remain one of the key concerns for the security agencies.

The honey trap wing of the ISI is being run from Faridkot. Since 2015, the ISI has earmarked a budget of nearly Rs 3,500 crore for this unit. This only goes on to show, how important the unit is for the ISI.

After a trap is laid, the information is either elicited through blackmail or in the lure for cash.

The ISI agents, who set the trap pay anything between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for the information.

The amount would however depend on the rank of the officer. The higher the rank, higher the money.

The Union Home Ministry was recently told by the Intelligence Agencies that in 2017, a fresh push was made by Pakistain to trap as many young recruits of the Indian Army. The traps were being set on those who had just joined the Army and as well as on those who were in the process of joining the forces. The Anika Chopra case is part of the same plan, IB officials say.

The ISI has been looking to trap as many as 200 such young recruits and recent investigations showed that the Pakistain agents were already in touch with over 50 of them. When the police had arrested Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Rohtak, they found that he was asked to click pictures, each time he visited the Army training camp. He had plans of joining the Indian Army and was training for the same.

He had already been trapped before he could join the forces. It was found that he had visited 18 Army recruitment camps from where he is alleged to have shared a lot of information.

Not only do the operations run from Faridkot, but the ISI has also managed to set up dedicated modules within India to honey trap officials. There are modules in Rajasthan, Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, which exclusively report to the Faridkot.

The ISI agents first create a fake profile on the social media and then begin chatting. Once they find that the target is vulnerable, they lead him to the Hookup chat site. Over here the information is shared. The biggest problem that Sherlocks face is that once a person logs out of Hookup, the chats are automatically deleted.

Officials tell OneIndia that the problem is likely to get worse in the coming months. The challenge ahead is huge. The official however adds that while the problem has been immense, the agencies have however managed to nip such incidents in the bud. It could have been much worse had it not been detected early, the official also added.
