1 hurt as Israeli drone tries to target car in al-Abbasiyeh amid other violations — Naharnet
2025-05-30
[NAHARNET] An Israeli drone tried to target a car in the southern town of al-Abbasiyeh but the missile failed to explode, media reports said, as the Health Ministry said one person was maimed in the botched strike.
The IDF targets Hezbollah south of the Litani River — whose people have no business being being there, according to the ceasefire they signed. That makes them legitimate targets.
The Israeli army meanwhile announced that a man killed overnight in a dronezap in Yater was the commander of the town's Hezbollah unit.
See?
During the war, the targeted operative was behind attacks against Israeli forces and settlements and ''he has recently attempted to rehabilitate the (Yater) unit, which is a violation of the (ceasefire) agreement,'' the Israeli army added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli forces fired an artillery shell at the al-Ain area in the southern border town of Kfarshouba and also fired machine guns at the town's outskirts, the National News Agency said.

Al-Jadeed television said the shell was fired at shepherds in the area.

Several citizens meanwhile escaped unharmed after Israeli forces shot up them near a chicken farm in the southern border town of Blida. A drone meanwhile dropped a stun grenade on the border town of Kfar Kila.

The Israeli army also opened machine gun fire heavily on the Marjayoun plain.

Israeli drones meanwhile overflew the al-Zahrani region at low altitudes.

Rajji slams Hezbollah as ''outlaw'' group and its tripartite equation as outdated
2025-05-30
[NAHARNET] Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji has said that Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem
... the new Fearless Leader of the Hezbullies...
''can say what he wants'' about the so-called ''army-people-resistance'' equation but added that ''the Lebanese people no longer want this outdated equation.''

''He certainly does not want to give up his weapons, but eventually he must find a solution,'' Rajji said in an interview with the al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper.

''This is an outlaw gang and it is not legitimate. We ask it to seek a solution, hand over its weapons and form a normal political party that has the creed it wants. I support total creed freedom and let its fighters return to their normal life and each member to his job,'' the minister added.

Hezbollah MPs lash out at Foreign Minister Rajji
[An Nahar] A number of Hezbollah MPs have lashed out at Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji, who is close to the Lebanese Forces, over his latest remarks on Hezbollah and its weapons.

“Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji’s remarks reflect the opinion of a political party, not the government. He used to fire bullets at people during the (civil) war, and now he is firing words,” MP Hassan Fadlallah said in an interview on al-Manar TV.

Responding to Rajji’s statement that the Lebanese people no longer want the so-called army-people-resistance equation, MP Ibrahim al-Moussawi said: “Which people are you referring to? The people who marched in the funeral of (Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah)? You are talking about hundreds of thousands of Lebanese people … Are you talking about the people who signed with their blood before their ink in the municipal elections to reiterate this equation?”

Slamming Rajji’s remarks as “irresponsible” and “shameful,” Moussawi said the people want to hear the minister talking about “Israeli occupation, aggression and daily assassinations.”

Under the terms of the ceasefire deal, the only armed bodies in southern Lebanon are meant to be U.N. peacekeepers and Lebanon's army, though Israel has retained its forces in five areas it has declared strategic.

reiterated the Lebanese group's stance that it will not discuss giving up its remaining weapons until Israel withdraws from the five border points it occupies in southern Lebanon and stops its airstrikes.
More airstrikes to come, then. Your choice.
"We adhered completely" to the agreement, Qassem said, adding: "Don't ask us for anything else from now on. Let Israel withdraw, stop its aggression, release the prisoners and fulfill all obligations under the agreement. After that, we will discuss each new development."
If only Hezbollah didn’t keep sending out teams to set up new outposts south of the Litani River in contravention of the ceasefire, and legitimate targets like arms caches were not carefully hidden in the marked places in IDF maps for resuming war with Israel north of it…
The Times of Israel adds:

Ortagus says Lebanon has ''more'' to do on Hezbollah disarming
2025-05-21
[NAHARNET] Leb
...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?...
still has "more" to do in disarming Hezbollah following the war between the Iran-backed group and Israel, Deputy U.S. Envoy for the Middle East Morgan Ortagus said Tuesday.

As part of a deal agreed to end 14 months of fighting last November, Hezbollah was to withdraw its fighters north of Lebanon's Litani River, while Israel was to pull all its forces from south Lebanon.

The Lebanese Army has been deploying in the area as Israeli forces have withdrawn and has been dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure there.

U.N. peacekeepers are also present in the area and play a role in supervising the ceasefire.

Lebanese authorities "have done more in the last six months than they probably have in the last 15 years," Ortagus said at the Qatar

there's a lot more to go," she added.

"We in the United States have called for the full disarmament of Hezbollah. And so that doesn't mean just south of the Litani. That means in the whole country," Ortagus said at the Qatar conference calling on Lebanese politicians "to make a decision."

Israel has continued to launch raids on Lebanon despite the ceasefire.

Last month, President Joseph Aoun said the army was deployed in more than 85 percent of Lebanon's south, and that the sole obstacle to full control across the frontier area was "Israel's occupation of five border positions".

In defiance of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military continues to occupy five positions close to the border that it has declared to be strategic.

"Earlier today (Wednesday), the IDF (military) struck in the area of Qaaqaaiyet al-Jisr in southern Lebanon, eliminating the Hezbollah commander of the Qabrikha area," a military statement said.

Baabda says Qassem''s latest stances ''realistic''
2025-05-15
[NAHARNET] The latest stances of Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem
... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
were ''realistic,'' Lebanese Presidency sources said.

''Every now and then some Hezbollah officials issue some stances that do not reflect this pragmatism, but what's certain is that the more they show cooperation, the more things become easier to implement,'' the sources told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

''The president had repeatedly talked about Hezbollah's cooperation as to the withdrawal of arms south of the Litani River and Qassem's remarks reflect a reassuring atmosphere in terms of the implementation of Resolution 1701 and what stemmed from it in the agreement reached in November 2024 on which Hezbollah agreed,'' the sources added.

As for Qassem's warnings that some want to isolate Hezbollah, the sources said: ''No one wants to isolate them and ignoring them is out of the question. Hezbollah is represented in parliament and government and talking about isolation is not logical.''

UNIFIL says it has found more than 225 Hezbollah arms caches in south Lebanon since start of truce
2025-05-13
Oh? And were they destroyed in place or handed over to the Lebanese army, which is still significantly manned by Hezbollah turbans?
[IsraelTimes] The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon says that since the start of the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, it has uncovered more than 225 weapons caches in the south and referred them to the army.
To the army and thence right into Hezbollah’s hot little hands. Goody.
The November truce largely ended more than a year of hostilities between Israel and the Iran-backed terror group, including two months of all-out war.

Under the deal, Hezbollah was to withdraw its fighters north of Lebanon’s Litani River and Israel was to pull all its forces from south Lebanon. Israel nevertheless has kept troops in five areas it deems “strategic.”

The Lebanese army has been deploying in the area as Israeli forces have withdrawn and has been dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure there.

Since the November 27 truce began, “peacekeepers have found over 225 weapons caches and referred them” to the Lebanese army, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon says in a statement.

UNIFIL also has a seat on the ceasefire monitoring committee, alongside truce brokers France and the United States, and the Israeli and Lebanese governments.

“With UNIFIL support,” Lebanon’s army has “redeployed to more than 120 permanent positions south of the Litani,” the peacekeeping force says.

It criticizes the IDF for keeping troops in five areas, saying that the “full deployment” of the Lebanese army has been “hindered” as a result.

Ahmad had advanced numerous attacks on Israeli civilians and troops during the war, the IDF said, adding that, "Recently, he worked to transfer weapons and to carry out terror attacks against the State of Israel."

The strike was carried out because "Ahmad’s activities posed a threat to the State of Israel and its citizens," the military added.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said an "enemy drone" hit a car in the Sidon’s Villas neighborhood, near the Imam Ali Mosque. Pictures showed a Renault on fire.

Hamas confirmed al-Ahmad’s death, saying he was a field commander.

Lebanon: IDF says Hezbollah commander killed by drone strike in southern Lebanon
2025-05-07
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it killed a Hezbollah commander in a drone strike in the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon earlier today.

The strike killed Adnan Harb, who the military says headed Hezbollah’s logistics array in the terror group’s Badr regional division. The regional unit is tasked with the area north of the Litani River.

The IDF says Harb, as part of his role, worked to restore Hezbollah’s fighting capabilities, as well as restore infrastructure in areas south of the Litani River.

“The terrorist worked to transfer weapons within Lebanese territory between the various units in the organization. His actions constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the IDF says.
