2017-09-16 | |
[Ynet] Two Minnesota mothers have been charged in an investigation of genital mutilation in a Moslem sect, months after bringing their daughters to a bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit ... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang... -area clinic. A new indictment was unsealed Thursday in Detroit federal court, raising the number of defendants to eight. The eight include Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, who is accused of performing the procedure. The News Agency that Dare Not be Named isn't naming the Minnesota moms to protect their daughters' identities. The moms are charged with conspiracy and genital mutilation. Nagarwala denies any crime and says she performed a religious custom on girls from her Moslem sect, the Dawoodi Bohra. She's been in jail without bail since her arrest in April.

2nd doctor, wife arrested in genital mutilation case
2017-04-23 | |||
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez! a second doctor and his wife Friday in a widening conspiracy involving female genital mutilation and members of a Moslem sect. Dr. Fakhruddin Attar is accused of letting Dr. Jumana Nagarwala perform mutilations at his Burhani Medical Clinic on Farmington Road. His wife, office manager Farida Attar, also was arrested and is accused of helping Nagarwala perform the mutilations, according to a 14-page complaint unsealed Friday in federal court. The arrests are the latest development in the nation’s first female genital mutilation case, which is providing insight into a small, insular Moslem community in Metro bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit ... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang... and an illegal procedure performed on maidens. The complaint solves a mystery stemming from the case by pinpointing where Nagarwala allegedly mutilated two 7-year-old girls from Minnesota earlier this year. The complaint also describes a conspiracy involving at least Nagarwala, Attar and his wife -- all three are members of the Dawoodi Bohra religious community based locally out of a Farmington Hills mosque.
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! until a detention hearing Wednesday. Both were dressed in the distinctive attire of Dawoodi Bohra members -- he wore a white cap with gold trim, while his wife wore a long teal dress and head covering with pink fringe. "Dr. Attar is not aware of any crimes committed at his clinic," defense lawyer Mary Chartier told news hounds outside court. "This is frightening for them and terrifying."
"It’s classic gamesmanship by the government, knowing they would spend the weekend in jug," she said. "I’m not surprised the government would pull that stunt." Gina Balaya, the U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman, said prosecutors were prepared to hold a detention hearing Friday, during which U.S. Magistrate Judge David Grand could have decided whether to release the couple on bond. "As reflected in open court, it was at the request of the defense that the hearing be set for Wednesday," Balaya told The News.

Detroit emergency room doctor charged with child genital mutilation |
2017-04-14 |
![]() Jumana Nagarwala, 44, of Northville Michigan is accused of performing female genital mutilation on underage girls. According to a criminal complaint, Nagarwala performed the procedure on girls ages six to eight years old at a medical clinic in Livonia. Some of the children were brought from out of state for the illegal procedure. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is considered the complete removal or partial removal of the clitoris, known as a clitoridectomy. FGM is internationally recognized as a violation of the human rights of women and girls. Some consider FGM as a religious and cultural practice. The purpose of this illegal practice is to suppress female sexuality in order to reduce sexual pleasure. In the criminal affidavit, Nagarwala performed FGM on girls who were approximately 7 years old at the time at a clinic in Livonia. The investigation revealed that in one particular case, a 7-year-old was brought by her family from Minnesota. An investigation into phone records revealed their location. The child was interviewed on April 10. She stated that she was brought to Detroit for "special girls trip." The child victim also stated that she said she had to go to the doctor "to get the germs out." Upon a medical exam on April 11, a doctor determined that the child's genitals had been altered or removed. The child identified Dr. Nagarwala as the doctor who performed the procedure. The affidavit also alleges that there are Michigan victims as well. “According to the complaint, despite her oath to care for her patients, Dr. Nagarwala is alleged to have performed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Blanco. “The Department of Justice is committed to stopping female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.” |
