'And a Nepalese citizen.' Why India and Pakistan started a mini-war
2025-05-09
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Savin
A bad headline, since it was Pakistan who started the war by sending in their jihadis to commit an atrocity on specifically Hindu Indian civilians.
On the night of May 6-7, India launched precision missile strikes on the territory of Azad Kashmir, which is under Pakistani control, as well as the Pakistani province of Punjab.

A press release from the Indian Ministry of Defence issued immediately after the attack (the document is dated 01:44 a.m.) said the armed forces "conducted Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir… Nine targets were hit…

The action was targeted and non-escalatory… Pakistani military installations were not affected… This was in response to the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam in which 25 Indians and one Nepalese citizen were killed.”

In response, the Pakistani Air Force was put on alert and artillery shelling began on Indian military deployment points in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to initial reports from the Pakistani side, they managed to shoot down three Rafale fighters of the Indian Air Force. Later, it was reported that in addition to the Rafales, a Su-30, a MiG-29 and a Heron attack drone were shot down.

In addition, it was said that the headquarters of the Indian armed forces brigade in Kashmir had been destroyed, and Indian strongholds where white flags had been displayed had been destroyed on the Line of Control (there is no official border, since both sides do not recognize each other's territorial claims).

It is worth noting that a few days before the incident, it became known that China had delivered a large batch of PL-15 air-to-air missiles to Pakistan, which were installed on JF-17 aircraft, and the squadrons were put on combat alert. The range of these missiles is 300 km. They were probably used to destroy the Indian aircraft.

As for the victims, Pakistan reported 31 killed and about 50 wounded. In Muzaffarabad, in Kashmir, an Indian missile destroyed a mosque and a madrassa.

It is significant that Indian media quoted Masood Azhar, the leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammed organization, which is based in Kashmir and is known for its anti-Indian activities. According to him, his wife, elder sister and her husband, and other relatives, ten people in all, were killed after the Indian missile attack.

If from India's point of view the operation was directed against terrorists, and this organization is such for India, then the position justifying selective strikes that kill civilians, possibly even those associated with the leaders of a radical organization, looks strange. Especially since the leader himself remained alive.

Most likely, the Indian military was trying to copy the methods of the Israelis, who often use targeted attacks against senior figures in the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance.

But in this case it looks like a clear failure, although the Indian side cites the names of the militant training camps that were allegedly hit.

In Pakistan, this version was immediately rejected, saying that international observers and journalists had previously visited these places and they did not see any “terrorist bases” there.

A similar incident occurred in 2019, when a suicide bombing in Indian-administered Kashmir was followed by strikes in Pakistani Kashmir.

However, now the attack has also hit areas within Pakistan's internationally recognised borders - Muridke, Bahawalpur and Sialkot. Pakistani authorities have therefore immediately accused India of aggression.

On the Indian side, 12 people were killed and about three dozen were injured. There were no reports of damage, but the loss of several aircraft was confirmed.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council and cancelled foreign visits planned for next week.

Civil defense exercises were held in states bordering Pakistan. Apparently, New Delhi was expecting a massive retaliatory strike from Pakistan.

Pakistan also held a National Security Council meeting, where the military was given free rein to use force. Pakistan's leadership declared its right to invoke Article 51 of the UN Charter on the right to self-defense.

President Asif Ali Zardari, among others, said that an appropriate response would be given. Pakistan's representative to the UN also briefed the Security Council on the details of the incident.

The Islamabad airport has been temporarily closed, with all flights diverted to Karachi. Some foreign airlines have suspended flights to Pakistan and have begun to bypass its territory. All airports in northern India have also been closed until May 10.

While this is not the first time that the two countries have had military conflicts and exchanges of blows, the current situation is somewhat different. It is reminiscent of the missile and drone exchanges between Israel and Iran in 2024, which, despite years of tension, did not escalate into a full-scale war.

Despite the good ties between the countries and the personal friendship between Narendra Modi and Donald Trump, it appears that the White House will not be supportive. The US has already called for de-escalation, and Trump has simply brushed off the issue in his comments, although he did call for a ceasefire on May 7.

India also cannot count on another proven military partner, Israel, since the Netanyahu regime is currently busy preparing a new large-scale operation against the Gaza Strip.

So it is unlikely that New Delhi will receive military assistance from these two countries.

India is also putting its credibility at risk in the Muslim-majority Global South, as criticism of the Modi government grows.

Pakistan's behavior looks more rational. At the same time, it can fully count on military-technical assistance from, at a minimum, China and Turkey. Not to mention the financial and diplomatic support of a number of monarchies in the Middle East.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir 's visit to New Delhi on May 8 may be aimed at brokering a ceasefire. His Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi is also in India.

Moreover, India's actions have united Pakistan's political parties, and while some continue to call for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, there is unanimity on India's part to continue the fight.

At the same time, secret Indian documents were leaked. The first talks about India's unpreparedness to wage a conventional war due to low morale among its troops and the vulnerability of both civilian and military infrastructure. It was signed on April 26 but was leaked to the public two days later.

The second appeared on May 1 and is of more serious interest, as it could be interpreted as a guide to organizing a terrorist attack against Pakistan's own citizens with the aim of subsequently blaming Pakistan.

The leaks show that deep within the Indian establishment there are clear opponents of the current military escalation in particular and Modi's policies in general.

On the morning of May 8, a number of Indian media outlets began to claim that Amritsar, where the sacred Sikh temple is located, had been hit by a missile attack from Pakistan. However, no confirmation of this has yet been provided.

Pakistan once again denied the accusations, although it had previously warned of an imminent response.

Gandapur stresses talks not off table, distances PTI from militants

[GEO.TV] Distancing himself from the 'enemies of the state', Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stressed on Tuesday that neither he nor Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

ever ruled out talks with the establishment.

"Imran Khan has always talked about negotiations," the CM said while addressing a seminar, adding that no talks whatsoever were currently underway but hinted it may take time before the next round of parleys.

These remarks contrast with PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan's statement last month that the placed in durance vile

party founder had not authorised any leader to engage in talks with the establishment.

Gohar said this after PTI leader Azam Swati claimed receiving Khan's go-ahead to contact the establishment to resolve political issues for bringing political stability to the country, indicating the party is not on the same page.

In another damage-control bid in April, party mouthpiece Sheikh Waqas Akram clarified that ex-PM Khan had never closed the door on negotiations, adding that talks could only be held in the national interest and must cover core issues, including the supremacy of law and the Constitution.

Two soldiers martyred, 15 terrorists killed in three KP operations
2025-04-27
[GEO.TV] Two Pakistain Army soldiers embraced martyrdom while at least 15 bad boyz were potted by security forces during three separate engagements in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the military's media wing said on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation was conducted by security forces in the Karak district on the reported presence of terrorists.

"During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the khwarij location, and resultantly eight khwarij were sent to hell," it added.

In another operation conducted in the North Wazoo district, four bad boyz were potted by the security forces.

In another encounter that took place in the general area of Gomal Zam, South Waziristan District, security forces successfully neutralised three terrorists.

Imran Khan backs call to make Pakistan ''hard state''
2025-04-10
[GEO.TV] Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Wednesday that incarcerated party founder Imran Khan backed calls for making Pakistan a "hard state", stressing the importance of ensuring equal justice for all citizens.

Speaking to Geo News, Gohar quoted Imran as saying that a "hard state" would guarantee the rule of law and uniform implementation of justice.

"Imran said Pakistan should not remain a soft state, where the law is not consistently upheld," he added.

The 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician, who has been behind bars since August 2023 after he was booked in multiple cases from corruption to terrorism, apparently backed the statement made by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

Last month, the army chief blamed the "soft state" image for the loss of innocent lives amid rising terror activities, asking for how long they [armed forces] will fill the "gaps of governance" with martyrs' blood.

"We need better governance... we should make Pakistan a hard state," he said while addressing a high-level in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, which was skipped by major opposition parties, including the former ruling party.

The in-camera session came against the backdrop of rising terrorism in Pakistan, including a major terrorist attack on a passenger train in the Mushqaf area of the Bolan district in Balochistan.

Dozens of militants, affiliated with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), blew up a railway track and assaulted the Jaffar Express on Tuesday, carrying more than 440 passengers — who were taken hostage.

The security forces, after a complex clearance operation, neutralised 33 attackers and rescued the hostage passengers.

Addressing the crucial session, COAS Munir asserted that no agenda, movement, or individual is greater than national security. "If this country exists, so do we; therefore, nothing is more important to us than its security," he added.

"All elements of national power must operate in unison to achieve lasting stability," he emphasised, declaring that it is a fight for the nation's survival and the future of generations to come.

China's $240 Million Airport in Terror-Plagued Pakistan Region Entirely Deserted
2025-02-27
[Breitbart] A newly inaugurated, allegedly state-of-the-art international airport in one of Pakistan’s most restive regions appears to have no significant plane traffic in it since its first arrival in late January, multiple reports revealed this week, and has left locals confused and concerned for what it means about their future.

The New Gwadar International Airport is located in Balochistan, home to a separatist terror group and a port that the Chinese Communist Party has identified as critical to its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Pakistan is one of the most enthusiastic participants in the BRI, a global debt trap scheme in which China ensnares poor countries into its control using predatory loans, and has its own wing of the BRI named after it: the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The government of Pakistan has steadfastly supported the development of CPEC with the exception of the term of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, a radical Islamist populist who dramatically cut the BRI budget in his government, although not without paying lip service to China’s alleged wisdom and development foresight. It has faced tremendous challenges to finance BRI projects and significant security problems, particularly in Gwadar, where the separatist Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has made Chinese citizens a target.

The New Gwadar International Airport is estimated to have cost Pakistan $240 million in Chinese financing to build.

Islamabad went ahead with officially opening the airport in October 2024, anyway, and it welcomed its first flight on January 21. The Indian newspaper Hindustan Times reported on Tuesday, expanding on earlier coverage from the Associated Press (AP), that the airport appears to get almost no use, describing it as the home of “ghost terminals” and seemingly no airplanes.

“The city continues to struggle with basic infrastructure issues, including unreliable electricity and a shortage of clean water, while the airport’s large capacity seems unnecessary for the area’s small population,” it observed.

The AP, visiting Gwadar, found the locals confused about the project at best, and alarmed at their potential displacement or colonization at worst.

“An airport with a 400,000 passenger capacity isn’t a priority for the city’s 90,000 people,” the agency observed. “People are on edge; activists claim there are forced disappearances and torture, which the government denies.”

Claims that the project created “local” jobs have gone unproven and locals lament that the airport has nothing to do with them.

“The port has been around for 20 years and now the international airport has been constructed, but not one person from Gwadar has been employed there … not even as a watchman,” one man, Abdul Ghafoor Hoth of the Balochistan Awami Party, told the AP.

The Chinese government promoted the BRI as a way for Pakistan to eradicate terrorist violence, particularly radical Islamic terrorism. In Balochistan, the growing Chinese presence, and accompanying Pakistani military operations, appeared to have inspired a new wave of terrorism against Chinese colonialism. When the U.S. State Department designated the BLA a terrorist organization, it listed several attacks targeting Chinese nationals by the group, including “a suicide attack in August 2018 that targeted Chinese engineers in Balochistan, a November 2018 attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi, and a May 2019 attack against a luxury hotel in Gwadar, Balochistan.”

The BLA continued to attack Chinese targets in subsequent years, including Chinese outposts unrelated to the BRI. In one of the most shocking such attacks, a female suicide bomber identified as Shari Baloch attacked the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi in April 2022, killing four people, three of them Chinese nationals. The BLA took responsibility for the attack; Confucius Institutes are academic centers the Chinese government uses to spread communist ideology.

The opening of the New Gwadar International Airport fell victim to security complications, as well. On October 6, 2024, just as officials had planned to inaugurate the project, terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device in Karachi, in an attack directly targeting a convoy carrying Chinese workers arriving in Pakistan. The bombing killed two Chinese citizens and injured several others.

The attack outraged the Chinese government, which blamed the BLA for the attack and demanded Islamabad “conduct a thorough investigation of the attack … severely punish the perpetrators … [and] take practical and effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions and projects in Pakistan.”

Locals speaking to the AP complained that, in the aftermath of the attack, Gwadar has seen an influx of Pakistani military officials who harass locals in an attempt to prevent further attacks.

“The city is a jumble of checkpoints, barbed wire, troops, barricades, and watchtowers,” AP said of Gwadar. “Roads close at any given time, several days a week, to permit the safe passage of Chinese workers and Pakistani VIPs.”

“We are asked to prove our identity, who we are, where we have come from,” one local lamented. “We are residents. Those who ask should identify themselves as to who they are.”

Pakistan held an inauguration ceremony for the airport “virtually” in October following the convoy bombing. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the virtual ceremony alongside Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang and celebrated the airport as “another gift from China.”

A month after that ceremony, the Pakistan Express Tribune reported that the Pakistan government had no plan for commercializing the airport to welcome airlines or to develop businesses such as restaurants and other stops within the airport for passengers.

Scotland Yard ''arrests'' PTI supporter over TikTok threats to PM Shehbaz, Sharif family
2025-01-19
[GEO.TV] Scotland Yard has reportedly arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporter Gulfam Hussain Kayani for threatening to harm Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former premier Nawaz Sharif and other members of the Sharif family — live on TikTok.

In one of the recent TikTok broadcasts, Kayani has also threatened to blow up the Avenfield apartments.

While speaking to his TikTok followers, he threatened that he will practically "drag" members of the Sharif family on London streets and that he will "avenge" PTI founder Imran Khan if he is harmed in Pakistan.

Kayani has also criticised Pakistan's military leadership.

Scotland Yard sources confirmed the arrest. It's understood that Kayani's arrest warrants were issued around a week ago.

He was arrested late on Friday night at the gates of the Avenfield apartments, soon after Khan's conviction in 190 million case. At that time, Kayani was live on TikTok and interacting with his followers.

US judge finds Israeli spyware firm NSO liable for hacking in WhatsApp lawsuit
2024-12-23
Cybersecurity is still a Wild West, as far as I can tell — everyone making it up as they go along, while the laws try to catch up. And then there’s national security stuff…
[IsraelTimes] ‘We’re proud to have stood up against NSO,’ says WhatsApp head; expert says ruling ‘makes it clear that NSO Group is in fact responsible for breaking numerous laws’

A US judge ruled on Friday in favor of WhatsApp in a lawsuit accusing Israel’s NSO Group of exploiting a bug in the messaging app to install spy software allowing unauthorized surveillance.

US District Judge Phyllis Hamilton in Oakland, California, granted a motion by WhatsApp and found NSO liable for hacking and breach of contract.

The case will now proceed to a trial only on the issue of damages, Hamilton said. NSO Group did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

Will Cathcart, the head of WhatsApp, said the ruling is a win for privacy.

“We spent five years presenting our case because we firmly believe that spyware companies could not hide behind immunity or avoid accountability for their unlawful actions,” Cathcart said in a social media post.

“Surveillance companies should be on notice that illegal spying will not be tolerated.”

A WhatsApp spokesperson said they were grateful for the decision.

“We’re proud to have stood up against NSO and thankful to the many organizations that were supportive of this case. WhatsApp will never stop working to protect people’s private communication,” he said.

Cybersecurity experts welcomed the judgment.

John Scott-Railton, a senior researcher with Canadian internet watchdog Citizen Lab — which first brought to light NSO’s Pegasus spyware in 2016 — called the judgment a landmark ruling with “huge implications for the spyware industry.”

“The entire industry has hidden behind the claim that whatever their customers do with their hacking tools, it’s not their responsibility,” he said in an instant message. “Today’s ruling makes it clear that NSO Group is in fact responsible for breaking numerous laws.”

WhatsApp in 2019 sued NSO, seeking an injunction and damages, accusing it of accessing WhatsApp servers without permission six months earlier to install the Pegasus software on victims’ mobile devices. The lawsuit alleged the intrusion allowed the surveillance of 1,400 people, including journalists, human rights activists and dissidents.

NSO had argued that Pegasus helps law enforcement and intelligence agencies fight crime and protect national security and that its technology is intended to help catch terrorists, pedophiles and hardened criminals.

NSO appealed a trial judge’s 2020 refusal to award it “conduct-based immunity,” a common law doctrine protecting foreign officials acting in their official capacity.

Upholding that ruling in 2021, the San Francisco-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals called it an “easy case” because NSO’s mere licensing of Pegasus and offering technical support did not shield it from liability under a federal law called the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which took precedence over common law.

The US Supreme Court last year turned away NSO’s appeal of the lower court’s decision, allowing the lawsuit to proceed.

Pakistan Army kills four militants, including commander, in Khyber region
2024-11-30
[KhaamaPress] The Pak Army reported the killing of four krazed killers, including one of their commanders, in the Khyber region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The army’s public relations office announced on Thursday, November 28, that these bully boyz were killed during an operation in the "Bagh" area of Khyber.

The Pak Army identified the slain krazed killer commander as "Bator." The army also mentioned that three other bully boyz were maimed during the operation.

...The turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is a relatively large species of flatfish in the family Scophthalmidae. It is highly prized as a food fish. It is a valuable commercial species, acquired through aquaculture and trawling. Turbot are farmed in Bulgaria, Canada, France, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Chile, Norway, and China. Turbot has a bright white flesh that retains this appearance when cooked. Like all flatfish, turbot yields four fillets with meatier topside portions that may be baked, poached, steamed, or pan-fried. It has been called The King of the Sea because of its exquisite flavor.

region of the province.

The escalation of violence in Pakistain has raised alarm, as attacks on military personnel and officials have been intensifying. In the first 20 days of November alone, 55 Pak officers were killed in various krazed killer attacks, highlighting the growing threat to national security.

These increasing krazed killer attacks, particularly in regions like Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, have exacerbated tensions within Pakistain. The military’s ongoing operations against Death Eaters have faced fierce resistance, and the mounting casualties among Pak officers underscore the severity of the situation.

The spike in krazed killer activity is part of a broader trend of instability in Pakistain, with bully boyz targeting both security forces and civilians. The rise in attacks has put immense pressure on the country’s security apparatus, forcing authorities to reconsider their strategies for countering bully boy groups.

Islamabad locked down ahead of protests seeking ex-PM Imran Khan's release
2024-11-24
[NY Post] Pakistan’s capital was put under a security lockdown on Sunday ahead of protests by supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan calling for his release.

Highways leading to Islamabad through which supporters of Khan, led by members of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, are expected to approach the city and gather near the parliament, have been blocked.

Most major roads of the city have also been blocked by the government with shipping containers and large contingents of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in riot gear, while mobile phone services have been suspended.

Gatherings of any sort have been banned under legal provisions, the Islamabad police said in a statement.

Global internet watchdog NetBlocks said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that live metrics showed WhatsApp messaging services had been restricted ahead of the protests.

A key Khan aid, Ali Amin Gandapur, who is the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and is expected to lead the largest convoy into Islamabad, called on people to gather near the entrance of the city’s red zone, known as "D Chowk".

Islamabad’s red zone houses the country’s parliament building, important government installations, as well as embassies and foreign institutions’ offices.

"Khan has called on us to remain there till all our demands are met," he said in a video message on Saturday.

The PTI’s demands include the release of all its leaders, including Khan, as well as the resignation of the current government due to what it says was a rigged election this year.

Khan has been in jail since August last year and, since being voted out of power by parliament in 2022, faces a number of charges ranging from corruption to instigation of violence.

He and his party deny all the charges.

's wife, Bushra Bibi.

Ayub, also the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, was addressing journalists in Sargodha on Friday, saying: "Bushra Bibi's release is not part of any deal."

He said that Imran's wife was kept in wrongful confinement and "now she is in a safe place". He further added that the Toshakhana case against the PTI founder was also false.

The politico's statement comes a day after Bushra, whose incarceration continued at the Adiala jail in a separate Toshakhana-2 case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), was released from jail after spending around nine months behind bars.

She was initially held after being sentenced to 14 years in prison in January 2024 in the original Toshakhana case.

She was released a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted her bail against surety bonds worth Rs1 million in the new Toshakhana case.

The former first lady was arrested after a court on January 31 convicted and sentenced the couple to 14 years in prison after finding them guilty of retaining and selling state gifts in violation of government rules (Toshakhana case) while Khan was in power.

Her release was expedited compared to the usual legal process, as typically, when a robkar (release order) is issued, the imprisoned person is released within two hours. However,
