Rs20bn defamation suit filed by ex-CJP against Imran Khan dismissed |
2024-03-17 |
[GEO.TV] A local court in Islamabad Saturday dismissed a Rs20 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf ...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations.... (PTI) founder Imran Khan ![]() The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality disorders... by former chief justice of Pakistain Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry after almost 10 years. In July 2014, the former CJP sent a defamation notice worth Rs20 billion to Khan for accusing him of rigging in the 2013 general election. Chaudhry’s lawyers had warned that legal proceedings would be initiated against Khan if he failed to apologise for the allegations he had levelled earlier against their client. However, it's easy to be generous with someone else's money... the former top judge formally filed the lawsuit against the PTI founder in the court of district and sessions judge in the federal capital in January 2015. In his lawsuit, the former CJP stated that the PTI founder used derogatory remarks against him in his statement published on June 27, 2014. It further claimed that Khan levelled baseless and fabricated Tut tut, my good man! Made up out of whole cloth, I assure you, including the pictures and the audio! allegations against the judiciary. After prolonged proceedings, the court dismissed the lawsuit against Khan, declaring the defamation notice as time-barred. In her verdict, Additional District Judge Islamabad-West Haseena Saqlain said that the complaint stands rejected having been filed beyond the limitation period stipulated under Section 12 of the Ordinance 2002. The judge noted that according to the plaintiff’s claim, Khan used derogatory remarks against Chaudhry on June 27, 2014. The complainant moved the court on January 20, 2015, after a span of six months and 24 days. "The presumption is now that the plaintiff was aware of the alleged defamatory remarks on the date of publication. Consequently, the filing the instant suit beyond the limitation period stipulated under Section 12 of the Defamation Ordinance 2002 is not permissible...," read the verdict. |

The three detained murderous Moslems were also among those killed in the Monday night clash, the CTD said. The CTD said its officials were shifting the three murderous Moslems from Miramshah to Bannu when they were ambushed on the Mir Ali Bypass Road, possibly by the holy warriors’ accomplices to free them from custody. The police officials retaliated, killing four assailants, while five murderous Moslems managed to escape under cover of darkness. The CTD said the detainees inside the van had been killed due to the assailants’ fire. The exchange of fire severely damaged some police vehicles. Six murderous Moslems killed in the attack were identified as Mehruddin, Abadur Rehman, Arshaad Ullah, Noor Qabil, Ashraf Ullah and Rifat Ullah. The identity of one attacker could not be immediately ascertained. The holy warriors, which according to the CTD were affiliated with the TTP, had been involved in several assassinations, including that of constable Iftikhar. They were also involved in many hand grenade attacks on security forces and police, including the one on the Cantonment cop shoppe, the CTD said. Four sub-machine guns along with cartridges and other arms were recovered from the holy warriors’ possession. Pakistan 'categorically' rejects Indian media report claiming outlawed organisation involved in relief work |
2022-09-03 |
Pakistain on Friday "categorically" rejected an Indian media report claiming that an outlawed organization was involved in relief work following the devastating floods in the country. "Pakistain categorically rejects the contents of the story. It only betrays India's bias and prejudice towards Pakistain, and is part of India’s regular and continuing attempts to mislead the international audience," said Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad. The spokesperson reminded us that this was "not the first time that the Indian media have shown their proclivity to carry baseless and motivated stories to further a political agenda". "It is also unfortunate that while the international community is single-mindedly focused on helping Pakistain in the wake of an unprecedented natural calamity, some elements in the Indian media are attempting to cast doubts on the relief efforts," said the spokesperson. Pakistain reiterated that "strong and robust regulatory and oversight mechanisms" are in place to "monitor flood relief activity by non-profit and non-governmental organizations". "All relevant agencies are vigilant in ensuring that no illicit activity is carried out under the garb of relief efforts," clarified the spokesperson. The report that was being responded to was a Times of India story claiming that groups like the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba ![]() Army of the Pure,an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI... (LeT) and other hard boy groups "have come out in full strength to deliver relief work and help the flood-affected masses". It also claimed that Islamabad has banned international NGOs from carrying out flood relief work despite making a global appeal for help. |

FO rejects India's 'purported closure' of inquiry into missile accidentally fired into Pakistan |
2022-08-25 |
[DAWN] Pakistain on Wednesday rejected India’s "purported closure" of the inquiry into accidental firing of a supersonic missile into the country on March 9, 2022, reiterating the demand for a joint probe into the incident. Yesterday, the Indian Air Force said the government had sacked three officers involved in the firing. "A Court of Inquiry, set up to establish the facts of the case, including fixing responsibility for the incident, found that deviation from the Standard Operating Procedures by three officers led to the accidental firing of the missile," it said in a statement. The BrahMos missile — a nuclear-capable, land-attack cruise missile jointly developed by Russia and India — was fired earlier this year, prompting Pakistain to seek answers from New Delhi on the safety mechanisms in place to prevent accidental launches. In a statement today, Foreign Officer (FO) spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said that it had seen India’s announcement of the findings regarding the incident and the decision to terminate the services of three officers reportedly found responsible for the reckless incident. |

Charges dropped against two men accused of antisemitism in 2021 north London 'hate convoy' |
2022-07-13 |
— FJ (@Natsecjeff) July 12, 2022 Charges of stirring up racial hatred have been dropped against two men who travelled to north London in a "Convoy For Paleostine" during the war between Israel and Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, in May last year. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) told Wood Green Crown Court that charges have been dropped against Asif Ali, 26 and Adil Mota, 27. Both men had travelled from Blackburn in the convoy that drove through London on 16 May 2021. The CPS is still set to move ahead with its case against two other men also from Blackburn, Mohammed Iftikhar Hanif, 28, and Jawaad Hussain, 25 on charges of "using threatening, abusive or insulting words, or behaviour, with intent, likely to stir up racial hatred". All four men were arrested after a video circulated on social media in May last year, in which antisemitic abuse could be heard being shouted as vehicles draped with Paleostinian flags travelled in a convoy through or near heavily Jewish areas. All four men had pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." when they were charged last year. Neither Mr Mota nor Mr Ali was required to attend the court for the hearing on Friday. Their lawyers took part by video link. Mr Mota’s solicitor Ghafar Khan told the JC: "We are glad that the case against our client has been dismissed."We had advanced the innocence of Mr Mota from the outset, he has stressed he is not antisemitic and has nothing against Jewish people." Mr Khan said his client was part of the convoy that travelled to North London but didn’t take part in the threatening or abusive behaviour. The lawyer said: "There was a car protest in which he took part to protest the difficulties faced in Paleostine for the Paleostinian people." He added that his client had experienced "what has been a really difficult and stressful time for the past 14 months".

India ‘deeply regrets accidental’ firing of missile inside Pakistan |
2022-03-12 |
[Dawn] The Indian defence ministry regretted on Friday that a missile "accidentally" entered Pakistain and fell in Khanewal district's Mian Channu area on Wednesday, attributing the incident to a "technical malfunction". "Our bad" "On March 9, 2022, in the course of routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile," the ministry said in a statement. "It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistain." "The government has taken serious view and ordered a high-level court of enquiry," the statement added. The ministry said while the incident was "deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident". The Indian defence ministry's statement comes a day after Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar briefed the media about the incident, calling for an explanation from Delhi. "On March 9, at 6:43pm, a high-speed flying object was picked up inside the Indian territory by Air Defence Operations Centre of the Pakistain Air Force (PAF)," he told media persons in Islamabad, adding the object suddenly manoeuvred towards Pak territory from its initial course and violated Pakistain's air space, ultimately falling near Mian Channu at 6:50pm. "It was a supersonic flying object, most probably a missile, but it was certainly unarmed," he said at the time. "It is important to highlight that the flight path of this object endangered many international and domestic passenger flights — both in Indian and Pak air space — as well as human life and property on ground," he added. "Whatever caused this incident to happen, it is for the Indians to explain. It, nevertheless, shows their disregard for aviation safety and reflects very poorly on their technological prowess and procedural efficiency," he further stated. He said Pakistain "strongly protests this flagrant violation and cautions against recurrence of any such incident in the future". Earlier today, the Foreign Office (FO) summoned the Indian envoy to register Pakistain's protest over the unprovoked violation of its airspace, saying such "irresponsible incidents" reflected the neighbouring country's "disregard for air safety and callousness towards regional peace and stability". It also called for a thorough and transparent investigation of the incident, the results of which should be shared with Pakistain. Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his other shoulder...... Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood WormtongueQureshi ![]() expressed concern over the incident, saying that the international community and aviation bodies should take notice. He said Pakistain would decide its next step after receiving India's explanation, adding that envoys of P-5 countries (permanent members of the United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... Security Council) would be called to the FO and briefed about the incident. Other politicians also condemned the incident and appreciated the PAF's prompt response. |

Durand Line Fencing 94% Completed: Pakistan | |
2022-01-07 | |
[TOLO] Hmmmm...walls/fences work? Somebody tell Brandon Pakistan's military says that it would complete the fencing along the Durand Line. "The fencing alongside the (Durand Line) is continuing and work is completed 94 percent. Pakistan will finish it. This is good for the security of the people on both sides," said Babar Iftikhar, spokesman for Pakistan’s armed forces. The dispute over the Durand Line between Kabul and Islamabad is apparently escalating. The Islamic Emirate said that the decision over the fate of the Durand Line belongs to the people living on both sides of the line. "The Durand Line is an issue of the whole nation, not the government. It doesn’t belong to the government. We will give the responsibility to the nation, so the nation will make the decision," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai. Earlier, a video on social media showed Islamic Emirate forces destroying the Durand Line fencing and engaging in a dispute with the Pakistani military. A Pakistan military spokesman said that the fencing was aimed to protect the people along the Durand Line. The Durand Line has been a controversial issue between Kabul and Islamabad for a long time. The former Afghan government also showed opposition to the fencing along the border. "There is a possibility of inflicting damage to Pakistan as well because of this (fencing) issue. Pakistan said it was just an issue in a single area, but it is not, because it (tension on Durand) occurred in Nangarhar, Nimroz, Kandahar and it may occur in other areas. But anyway, there is a need for dialogue," said Tahir Khan, a journalist from Pakistan. "It is a border for us. It is not a line. I am a Pahstun but I accept it (Duand Line) as a border. But the Pashtuns in Afghanistan are my brothers and sisters," said Asif Durani, former deputy ambassador of Pakistan to Kabul. The Pakistan military has been fencing the Durand Line for the past five years. The length of the Durand Line is approximately 2,500 km. The fencing of the Durand Line has also faced a strong reaction from the public in Afghanistan. The video showing an alleged member of the Islamic Emirate destroying the fencing was widely celebrated by Afghan social media users.
