Polio worker shot dead in Mohmand

He departed this vale of tears while being shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Ghalanai. After the incident, the local administration officials rushed to the spot and took a suspected man into custody and sent him to Ghalanai lockup for investigation. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire. -Bajaur road at Ghazi Baig Bridge and blocked it to traffic to demand immediate arrest of the killers. They also offered the funeral on the road. Local ANP president Nisar Mohmand led the protesters and confirmed that Wajid was killed during his official polio duty. He asked the local administration to register a case against those involved in the attack. The polio official was rubbed out at about 10:45am while FIR could not be registered till the funeral at 6pm.

Two soldiers killed in Mohmand

[DAWN] Two security personnel were killed in roadside kaboom blasts in Lower Chamarkand near the Afghan border, 70km from Ghalanai, the headquarters of Mohmand tribal agency, on Sunday. Assistant Political Agent Haseebur Rehman Khalil said two improvised bombs (IEDs) planted by miscreants went off in the Chamarkand area, killing two security personnel. Local administration officials said that soldier Zar Badshah Khattak was going somewhere with personnel of the Bomb Disposal Unit when an IED went kaboom!, leaving him dead. In another incident, Khasadar Force personnel were busy in a search operation with security forces when an IED went off, killing Khasadar Nabi Khan. After the incidents, security forces conducted a search operation in the area, but no arrest was reported till late in the night. Security has been beefed up at check-posts in the entire agency and security forces are patrolling roads to check the movement of suspects. Earlier, several personnel of the Khasadar Force have been killed in the line of duty, but their families have not been paid any compensation. Officials say that the personnel were not killed while performing their duty. Local rustics have urged the authorities to pay compensation to the families of the personnel killed in the line of duty. Two brothers titzup in family dispute

[DAWN] Two brothers were killed and their parents injured when their relative opened fire on them in Haleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency. Officials said on Friday that Raman and his brother Rohullah exchanged harsh words with their cousin Yousuf of Babikhel over some issue. They said that Yousuf opened fire on them, killing Raman on the spot while Rohullah died in hospital. The victims’ parents were also injured in the incident. They were taken to Peshawar in a precarious condition. The Khasadar force has arrested three persons for investigation into the case.

3 kidz wounded in mine attack in Mohmand

GHALANAI: A landmine went off in Baizai tehsil here on Saturday, injuring three young boys, security sources said. The landmine was planted by unknown persons at a place used by the people for taking rest underneath trees in Atmar Khel area. Security sources identified the victims as Arif Khan, 18, Noor Ullah, 10, and his brother Abdullah, 11, who were playing when the blast struck. The injured were shifted to a Peshawar hospital for treatment. One of the injured was stated to be in critical condition. After the incident, political administration with the help of levies and khasadar men conducted a search operation in the adjoining areas and arrested five suspects and shifted them to political lockup in Bahi Daag area. Meanwhile, residents of Yousaf Khel area of Haleemzai tehsil took out a protest rally and blocked the main Peshawar-Bajaur Road on Saturday against suspension of power supply to their area. The protesters demanded that the power supply suspended for last three days should immediately be restored. They said power suspension had caused water shortage in houses and mosques, forcing people to come onto the roads. They said an out of order transformer at the Ghalanai grid station could not be repaired despite passage of four months due to which the local people were bearing the brunt of power suspensions. Houses of militants razed in Mohmand

GHALANAI: The local administration along with tribal elders on Saturday demolished 12 houses of suspected militants during a search operation in Haleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency. Political naib tehsildar Mehmood Shah told Dawn the local administration conducted the operation in Ghalanai Mian Gan, Adin Khel and other villages of the tehsil. The militants, whose houses were demolished, were identified as Sheraz, Mohammad Shah, Haroon, Aziz, Adnan, Ziarat Shah, Sazono, Ibrahim, Yasir, Akhtar Ali, Khatir and Subhan. It is worth mentioning that the local administration had handed over a list of 22 wanted men to the Haleemzai elders to demolish their houses. An official statement said the administration conducted the operation with the help of Haleemzai elders. The tribal elders vowed to extend support to the security forces and the local administration in maintaining peace in the area. Meanwhile, the rural health center, Ekkaghund, has been facing shortage of staff and facilities, creating difficulties to patients. Local people said although lower Mohmand subdivision was the biggest subdivision of Mohmand Agency it lacked healthcare facilities. They said the dental unit in the RHC had been dysfunctional for last eight years Shehryar Khan, a local resident, said the patients suffering from dental complications had to travel to Shabqadar or Peshawar for treatment. When contacted, Agency Surgeon Dr Razaullah said the hospital administration had not requisitioned repair of the dental unit. “We have funds for repair of the equipments. If the equipments could not be repaired, we will send it to Fata secretariat for repair or replacement,” he said. A relevant official told reporters that there was no shortage of staff in the hospital. He said that only equipments in the dental unit had been out of order for the last several years. Businessman's nephew killed in IED blast

[DAWN] Political administration officials and local residents said unknown gunnies attacked house of Haji Bughdad Shah in Durbakhel area of Haleemzai tehsil late on Sunday night resulting in serious injuries to his nephew, Jamil Khan. They said the injured succumbed while being taken to hospital. The attackers managed to escape. It was the second attack on house of Bughdad Shah, a renowned businessman of marble. Earlier hand grenades were hurled on his residence, but the inmates remained unhurt. Sources said he had received threatening letters from extortionists. After the incident the security forces, levies and Khassadar personnel conducted a joint search operation in the area to arrest the attackers. During the search, an IED blast took place, but the law-enforcers remained unhurt. Security official killed in Mohmand blast

GHALANAI: A security official was killed and four others, including a civilian, were injured in three separate blasts of improvised explosive devices in parts of Mohmand Agency, officials said on Monday. They said that the first explosion occurred in Soran area of Baizai tehsil, probably targeting the security personnel, including bomb disposal experts, who were on a routine duty there. As a result, a security man, identified as Rashid Khan, was killed on the spot. Assistant political agent, Baizai, Arif Yousafzai, when contacted, confirmed the incident to Dawn, and said that security personnel were on duty in the area when the explosion occurred. In the other incident, officials said, three security personnel were injured when an IED went off in Baidmanai area, also in Baizai on Sunday. The injured personnel were shifted to CMH Peshawar. The security forces launched a search operation in the area after the incident. However, no arrest was made till filing of this report. Another IED planted along the road in Aliangar area of Safi tehsil went off, injuring a man passing by the spot. Meanwhile, a boy was injured when unidentified men attacked the house of a worker of a local NGO in Miangan area of Haleemzai tehsil on the night between Sunday and Monday. Local people said that the assailants attacked the house of NGO worker, Raham Sher, during the night, injuring his cousin, Haris Khan. He was shifted to the agency headquarters hospital, Ghalanai.

Toy bomb kills young boy in Mohmand

[DAWN] A 12-year-old boy was killed when an bomb hidden in a toy went off in Mohmand tribal region on Sunday, political administration officials said. The officials said that the blast occurred when the boy was playing with the toy with other boys in the fields. They said that the incident took place in Akhunzadgan village of Haleemzai tehsil, situated about three kilometers from the agency headquarters, Ghalanai. "Three children were playing with a toy that they had found from the garbage they collected from nearby fields, but it went kaboom!, killing one boy, while the other two escaped unhurt," a local resident told Dawn. A local administration official in Ghalanai confirmed the incident, saying that the victim boy was identified as Asad, son of Hasan Jan, resident of Akhunzadgan village. It is to mention here that dozens of children, mostly in the insurgency-hit tribal areas, have bit the dust in the past while playing with "toys" that turned out to be bombs.

In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar... on Tuesday destroyed poppy crop over 50 kanals in different areas of Haleemzai tehsil with the help of local elders. Assistant political agent Jamshed Khan told Dawn that the political administration had started poppy eradication campaign through jirgas of the local rustics in Yaseen Kor, Kas Kor and Shah Baig in Haleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency. Other officials said that the administration had asked the rustics to voluntarily eradicate poppy crop. They said that the jirgas would continue to mobilise the rustics and ensure eradication of poppy crops in the area. He said that the government's writ would be restored at any cost. Mr Khan said that the campaign was started on the directives of political agent Khushal Khan.

Jirga seeks release of tribesmen

[DAWN] GHALANAI: A jirga comprising leaders of political parties, office-bearers of welfare organizations and Learned Elders of Islam on Monday reviewed the situation arising out of the raids on houses of rustics and their arrest by the security forces. The participants said that most of the detainees were over 60 years of age and asked the government to set them free. They said instead of sniffer dogs, identification of wanted persons should be conducted through the local jirga. They said the Haleemzai rustics had already handed over hundreds of desperados to the administration and security forces from time to time. The jirga also complained of misbehaviour of forces' personnel with the detainees at the lockup. "We do not know who is the real authority in the area -- the political administration or the security forces (Mohmand Rifles) -- because the forces' personnel raided our houses without consulting the local administration," said a participant of the jirga. Later, the jirga formed a 20-member committee for holding negotiations with the local administration and Mohmand Rifles regarding the release of the incarcerated Book 'im, Mahmoud! rustics. The participants included among others Jamaat-e-Islami ...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law.
