Pakistan Deports Over 20,000 Afghan Families in 5 Months
2025-05-27 | |
From time to time we check on the countries around Afghanistan to see that yes, they continue to send back more of the millions of Afghan refugees that have been accumulating in the near-abroad since the Soviet era. The profits for hosting them dried up after the Biden-Harris Politburo gave Kabul to the Taliban. [ToloNews] In the past five months, Pakistan has forcibly deported more than 20,000 Afghan families through the Torkham crossing.Baz Mohammad Abdul Rahman, Director of Refugees and Repatriation in Nangarhar, told TOLOnews that seventy percent of these families have been resettled in Nangarhar province. He stated: “The number of returnees is 97,883 individuals, with 70 percent of them settled in Nangarhar and the remaining 30 percent relocated to other provinces. In Nangarhar alone, 14,316 families—comprising 68,591 individuals—have been resettled.”
They are calling on the interim government and aid organizations to assist them in securing shelter. Arman Khan, a recently deported returnee, said: “When we crossed through Torkham, the Pakistani police told us we had to pay two thousand rupees. We paid the money and were allowed to pass.” Mir Ahmad Khan, another deportee, said: “If we are supported for even one year, we can stand on our own again. A hand of cooperation must be extended to us.” According to recent UN statistics, since 2023, Iran and Pakistan have forcibly returned more than three million Afghan migrants to Afghanistan. Afghanistan Faces Continuing Waves of Deportees [ToloNews] Seven years ago, Ghulam Nabi, along with his wife and six children, left for Iran to escape poverty, insecurity, and unemployment. But today, after years of living in exile, he is once again in Kabul—not by choice, but by force. Ghulam Nabi, deported from Iran, describes his challenges: “We left here because of poverty and hardship, hoping for a better life there. For the first two or three years, no one bothered us, but in recent months, the pressure increased significantly. We were always running from the police, but eventually, around four o'clock, they caught us all and took us to a camp.” Alongside him, thousands of other families are returning—people who had lived in Iran or Pakistan for years but now have to rebuild their lives in Afghanistan from scratch. Arefa, deported from Iran, said: “We returned from the border and are now facing many difficulties. We lived in another country for a while, and now we’ve come back to our homeland. We ask our government to help us.” Aziz, deported from Pakistan, said: “We were working and earning a living in Pakistan, but now that we’ve returned to Afghanistan, we are facing many problems and need cooperation and support.” According to a recent report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 107,000 Afghan migrants were deported from Iran and Pakistan in just one week—from May 11 to May 17. The IOM stated in its report that between May 11 and 17, there were 58,200 entries from Iran and 49,245 entries from Pakistan into Afghanistan, recorded by the organization. Experts warn that the mass deportation of migrants without any preparedness for their reintegration could trigger a new humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Mohammad Khan Talebi Mohammadzai, a migrant rights activist, said: “As long as the return of migrants is not voluntary and supported by international organizations, such actions are considered a violation of human rights. International organizations and humanitarian bodies must negotiate with host governments about harsh migration policies to ease the difficulties faced by migrants.” Meanwhile, the International Crisis Group has urged the European Union to apply political pressure on Pakistan to halt the forced deportation of Afghan refugees. The Crisis Group said in a report: “The EU should also scale up its response within Afghanistan, enhancing assistance for returnees and host communities." Alireza Karimi, another migrant rights activist, echoed this view: “EU pressure can be somewhat effective, especially if it is accompanied by threats of financial aid cuts and reduced diplomatic ties. However, to fully prevent deportations, a multilateral solution is needed.” Previously, a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that 380,000 Afghan migrants have been deported from neighboring countries this year alone and stressed that Afghanistan is not prepared to accommodate this number of returnees.

[Dawn] One passerby was killed and at least nine injured when an improvised bomb (IED) planted in a cycle of violence![]() The blast took place in the commercial locality of Saddar, which remains crowded at night because of the presence of restaurants and eateries on Daud Pota Road near the city’s oldest United Bakery. Dr Summaiya Syed, the additional police surgeon of Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre, said that so far, a body of young man and nine injured persons, including three teenagers, have been brought to the hospital. She said that the condition of two maimed persons was "critical". The explosion caused substantive damage to property, including vehicles, in the area. Footage from the site showed a vehicle belonging to the Pakistain Coast Guards was also damaged in the earth-shattering kaboom. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar informed Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah that an improvised bomb (IED) was used, said the latter's spokesperson in a statement. According to the preliminary probe report, it appeared that the IED was attached to a motorbike, the IGP was quoted as saying. Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon told Dawn that the nature of the earth-shattering kaboom was being determined. He said it would be "premature" to say whether the blast was intended to target a vehicle of Pakistain Coast Guard. He did, however, say that it was not the regular route of the maritime agency's vehicle. DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal, in a media talk, said: "According to the information received yet, the device went off at 11:20pm. As of right now, I do not think that any institution or a particular vehicle was the target." 3 Chinese nationals among 4 dead in suicide attack at Karachi University |
2022-04-27 |
[Dawn] At least four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed while four others were maimed in a suicide kaboom outside the University of Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... 's (KU) Confucius Institute, officials said on Tuesday. The incident happened as a van, carrying staff members, was about to enter the Confucius Institute, located next to the commerce department. Television footage showed a white van in flames with plumes of smoke rising from its remains. The windows of nearby buildings were also seen shattered from the impact of the earth-shattering kaboom. CCTV footage of the attack showed a burqa-clad woman standing outside the entrance of the Confucius Institute. The woman detonated herself just as the van neared the institute's entrance. Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar confirmed that four people had died. A handout from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s office quoted the IGP as saying that the blast took place at approximately 2:30pm. The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) grabbed credit for the attack. A spokesperson for the university confirmed that three of the victims were Chinese nationals. They were identified as Confucius Institute Director Huang Guiping, Ding Mupeng and Chen Sai. The fourth victim was the van’s driver, Khalid. The spokesperson also identified two of the injured as Wang Yuqing, a Chinese faculty member, and Hamid. "Academic activities and public dealings will remain suspended at KU on Wednesday (tomorrow) to mourn the loss of the Confucius Institute's faculty members," the spokesperson said. Earlier in the day, SSP East Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi had hinted that a "couple" of Chinese nationals, who were part of KU faculty, were among the dear departed. BALL BEARINGS FOUND Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official Raja Umar Khattab said that the suicide attack was carried out by a woman, adding that ball bearings were found at the site of the blast. He said the van was properly guarded as a Rangers team was escorting it which was why an improvised bomb (IED) was not used. Responding to a question, the CTD official said he did not believe a security lapse was the reason behind the attack since thousands of students were coming and going out of the university and checking each of them was a problem. Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said that it was unfortunate that teachers had been targeted. Speaking to the media, he said that four others had been injured, including a Chinese national, a private security guard and a Rangers personnel. Memon said that a Rangers team was accompanying the Chinese nationals. Asked whether a threat had been issued prior to the attack, the senior officer said that there was "always a threat". He said tight security arrangements were already in place at the varsity, adding that any lapses would be "revisited". "Give us time to look at the CCTV footage and interview witnesses," he said. Speaking to the media earlier, DIG East Muqaddas Haider said initial information showed the van was headed to the institute after leaving the hostel. "The explosion took place at the van's right side at the [institute's] entrance," Haider said, confirming that four people had been killed. |

Taliban Increases Pressure on Zherai District in Kandahar, 2 kaboomed in gov’s Kandahar city compound
2021-07-05 | ||
[ToloNews] The Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... increased their pressure on Zherai district in Kandahar after taking control of the strategic district of Panjwai on Saturday, raising concerns in Kandahar city. Panjwai fell to the Taliban after being under siege for a week. Local officials said that hundreds of families have been displaced due to the conflicts in Zherai and Panjwai districts. "We have left everything at our homes. We have come here (to the city of Kandahar) with our family members only," said Ghulam Nabi, a resident of Kandahar. "No one is paying attention to the people--neither the Taliban nor the government. We don’t know who we should take our complaints to," said Ahmad Shah, a resident of Kandahar. The provincial council of Kandahar said they are concerned about an increase in the Taliban’s influence in the southern province.
The security situation in the city of Qalat, in Zabul, which shares a border with Kandahar, is raising fears among locals; however, security forces said Taliban attacks have been pushed back in the province. "They attacked some outposts on the outskirts of Qalat city, but they were responded to quickly and 25 of the enemy was killed and 21 more were maimed. The enemy also wanted to conduct a suicide car kaboom on one of our facilities, but it was also thwarted. We assure you that Zabul will not face any problems," said Sayed Baba Mansoori, the commander of the second regiment of 205 Atal Corps. So far, six districts in Kandahar have fallen to the Taliban. Maroof, Maiwand, Arghistan have fallen in recent days. Magnetic Mine Blast in Kandahar Governor's Compound Kills 2 [ToloNews] The secretary of Kandahar's governor and a security guard were killed, and another security guard was wounded, in a magnetic IED blast that occurred in a parking area in the governor's compound in Kandahar city on Sunday afternoon, local security sources confirmed. The blast took place about 2:15 pm local time in Kandahar city as Mansour Ahmad, the secretary of Kandahar's governor, entered the parking area in his vehicle, the sources said. “Mansour and a security guard were killed in the blast and another security guard was wounded,” said the sources. However, no group including the Taliban has immediately claimed responsibility for the blast.
The insurgents have pressed on with their campaign to capture territory across Afghanistan's rural areas since early May when the US military began the pullout. The fall of Panjwai district in the southern province of Kandahar comes just two days after US and NATO forces vacated their main Bagram Air Base near Kabul, from where they led operations for two decades against the Taliban and their Al-Qaeda allies. Over the years, the Taliban and Afghan forces have regularly clashed in and around Panjwai, with the insurgents aiming to seize it given its proximity to Kandahar city, the provincial capital. The province of Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban, who went on to rule Afghanistan with a harsh version of Islamic sharia law until being overthrown by a US-led invasion in 2001. Panjwai district governor Hasti Mohammad said Afghan forces and the Taliban clashed during the night, resulting in government forces retreating from the area. "The Taliban have captured the district police headquarters and governor's office building," he told AFP. Kandahar provincial council head Sayed Jan Khakriwal confirmed the fall of Panjwai, but accused government forces of "intentionally withdrawing". Fighting has raged across several provinces of Afghanistan in recent weeks and the Taliban claim to have seized more than 100 out of nearly 400 districts in the country. Afghan officials dispute the claims but acknowledge that government troops have retreated from some districts. It is difficult to independently verify the situation. Senators Seek Thorough Probe Into Kabul Fire That Killed 9 People
2021-05-03 | |
[ToloNews] Senators on Sunday raised questions over recent fires in Kabul, Farah and Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... province that mainly targeted fuel imports, saying there are "some hands behind such incidents" that seek to harm the country’s economy. The Ministry of Interior Affairs said that nine people were killed and 14 more were maimed in the major fire at a tanker truck station in the Qala-e-Murad Bek area north of Kabul along the key highway that connects the capital city with northern provinces. At least 60 vehicles, including fuel tanker trucks as well as trucks carrying food and other goods, were completely damaged in the fire that started around 9:00 pm on Saturday. The Chamber of Trade and Investment said an investigation into the incident has begun, but added that the use of a magnetic bomb is one of the possible reasons for the massive fire. The chamber estimates the losses of the fire at around $20 million.
"Such incidents need a thorough probe to determine whether it was an enemy action," said Mohammad Khan, a senator. Senators said that one of the reasons can be a lack of attention by government officials in the proper management of the country’s border towns, ports and customs. "A fire happened at Kabul gate. All these incidents must be probed thoroughly," Senate Speaker Fazl Hadi Moslemyar said. Following the major fire at the border town of Islam Qala in mid-February, the government vowed to make public its findings on the incident, particularly on how it happened. But senators said the report has not been made public so far. "There is no one responsible. The culture of impunity has expanded more than in the past," Deputy Senate Speaker Mohammad Alam Ezedyar said. Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly after it broke out as the fuel tankers were parked very close to each other. "They went kaboom!one after another in five seconds," said Ghulam Nabi, a fuel truck owner who says his vehicle was burned in the fire. Other tanker truck owners said they are fed up with the government checkpoints along their way to Kabul as they are stopped for several hours each time they reach the entrance gates of the capital city. "We were allowed to move at 12:30 pm but we were stopped by the checkpoint. We are devastated," said Najibullah, a truck owner. "I was asked to give 300 Afs to move. Is it the government?" asked Ghulam Sakhi, owner of a fuel tanker. Kabul governor Yaqub Haidari said that those who have stopped the vehicles and have made the parking where the fuel tankers were parked should be responsible. "On what decision was this parking made?" he asked. Home, Vehicle Owners Protest Over Kabul Fire Damages [ToloNews] A massive fire that began with a tanker truck carrying fuel in the Shakar Dara district of Kabul along the highway connecting the capital with northern provinces has inflicted heavy damage to vehicles and nearby houses as residents described. This led to a protest by residents of the area who closed the highway to traffic for many hours on Sunday. The fire first erupted in a tanker truck that was parked among dozens of others in a line waiting to enter Kabul. Owners of the fuel tanker trucks said they are often stopped like this by security forces and officials before they enter Kabul. They said it has been one of their main concerns for a long time. Unconfirmed figures by the residents show that at least 100 houses were damaged in the Qala-e-Murad Bek area. A restaurant, a fuel station, many shops and many vehicles that were passing through have been damaged in the fire. Unconfirmed figures show that dozens of tanker trucks were burned in the fire. "We suggested many times to transfer the checkpoint from here, but no one heard our voice, including in the Shakardara district governor’s office," said Jamshid, a resident of Qala-e-Murad Bek. Other residents said that the government has failed to build a parking slot for the fuel tankers to ensure their safety. Now trucks park in a line near the entrance gate of Kabul. "This is not a proper place because there are many residential houses around. The (Kabul) governor issued orders many times, but they were not implemented," Shakardara district governor Gawhar Khan Baburi said. Trucks carrying goods also park near the entrance gate leading into Kabul.
