[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday summoned two senior MQM leaders in relation to the recent arrested three ’India-linked’ party affiliates, according to CTD Deputy Inspector General of Police Omar Shahid Hamid.

The department’s team served the notice at the house of Dr Farooq Sattar and summoned him on Saturday to appear before the Sherlocks in case no 54/2021 registered at the CTD Civil Lines Police Station. According to the notice, the arrested MQM affiliates had told the Sherlocks that they got affiliation with India’s RAW

agency with Sattar’s assistance.

Omar Shahid said that Anees Advocate, another party leader, had also been summoned for questioning about his role in ’terrorist’ incidents in Hyderabad. Earlier on May 28, 2021, the CTD had exposed what is called a ’big terrorism network’ of MQM formed in Sindh by arresting three alleged holy warriors belonging to Bloody Karachi

and Hyderabad.

With the assistance of a federal intelligence agency, the CTD had arrested Naeem Ahmed, Imran Ahmed and RAW-trained Aleemuddin from near Landhi Railway Station and recovered arms, ammunition and hand grenades from their possession, it said.

Accused Naeem, on the instructions of party’s high command from abroad, had formed the six-member gang, for killing opponents and for terrorist activities. He was the senior most party activist and joint in-charge of Sindh Organizing Committee. He had been arrested several times earlier and had been to jail for his involvement in cases of kabooms, terrorism and others.

Accused Imran, also a senior most activist and former sector in-charge, zonal member and UC chairman, had been involved in attacks on a cop shoppe, killing police personnel and others. He had also been to jail. Aleemuddin had been arrested and sent to jail for his involvement in killing police personnel by firing on police mobiles and other crimes. Number of terrorism cases against him were already underway.

Dr Siddiqui returned home on Saturday morning.

While those representing Mr Musharraf on the social media remained tight-lipped about his political engagements in the UAE, the MQM promptly denied the meeting.

A spokesperson for the MQM, Aminul Haq, rejected reports of the meeting and said Dr Siddiqui was in Pakistain. "He did not meet any politician, including Gen Pervez Musharraf."

He, however, confirmed that Dr Siddiqui, MQM’s deputy parliamentary party leader in the National Assembly, visited Dubai for "less than 24 hours", but said his trip was strictly personal in nature.

Rangers raid MQM’s makeshift office
2016-08-24
A heavy contingent of Sindh Rangers on Tuesday carried out a raid at Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s makeshift office in Karachi’s PIB Colony, Waqt News reported.

According to local media reports, the paramilitary force carried out the raid at a wedding hall, which is being used by the Muttahida as a temporary office, in PIB Colony.

The Rangers personnel also checked national identity cards (CNICs) of every person present in the hall, including MQM leader Amir Khan who was attending a meeting pertaining to local government elections.

In a separate development, Sindh Rangers Director General Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar visited MQM stronghold Nine Zero. He also reviewed security measures taken by the paramilitary force.

Earlier on Tuesday, Dr Farooq Sattar in a press conference at Karachi Press Club announced MQM’s decision to sideline party’s London-based supremo Altaf Hussain.

“In wake of the prevailing situation, MQM has decided to distance itself from anyone, be it a worker or the party chief, who speaks against Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity,” said Dr Sattar.

Following Dr Sattar’s press conference at Karachi Press Club, TV anchor Amir Liaquat Hussain announced his decision to quit the party.

“I’m not a traitor. As I distance myself from the party, I apologise to everyone. Pakistan is everything to me. God bless Pakistan,” local media reports quoted Amir Liaquat as saying.

The development came after Altaf Hussain launched a barrage of anti-Pakistan tirade. According to local TV channels, Altaf in his Monday’s speech told protesters "to storm the offices of TV channels".

Violent protesters later stormed the office of ARY News in Karachi’s Saddar area. They also set a police mobile on fire. The incident claimed one live and injured five others.

Later in the day, Sindh Rangers arrested Dr Sattar and Khawaja Izharul Hassan when the two were about to hold a press conference in wake of the attack on ARY News office.

Major General Akbar said that the paramilitary force will examine camera footage to identify perpetrators of the attack. “We won’t let anyone sabotage law and order in Karachi,” said the Rangers chief.

The paramilitary force also arrested several other Muttahida activists, including Amir Liaquat, Amir Khan and Sajid Ahmed. Media reports say the arrested MQM activists will record their statements.

After arresting key Muttahida leaders, including Dr Farooq Sattar and Amir Liaquat, Sindh Rangers sealed MQM stronghold Nine Zero after confiscating communication equipment.

According to local media reports, a heavy contingent of the paramilitary force arrested three party activists from Nine Zero. They also took control of the headquarters’ control room.

MQM activist, relative picked up in Rangers raid
2016-07-15
HYDERABAD: A team of the law-enforcement agencies picked up sub-inspector Shahid Noor, said to be the beat in-charge in the special branch of police in a raid during which an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awais Azeem, was also said to have been taken away late on Tuesday evening.

It is learnt that the raid was carried out to arrest Awaiz Azeem but the SB official posted at Latifabad was picked up for offering resistance to the law-enforcers as the former is the brother-in-law of the latter.

Mr Azeem is a resident of Karachi and according to sources he was acting as a coordinator of MQM’s parliamentary party leader in the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar.

Noor’s family shared details of the raid with other special branch officers. A text message sent to Dr Sattar requesting him to confirm or deny whether Azeem was associated with him or his party in any manner was not responded.

Noor lives in Latifabad Unit-11 opposite Govt Degree College. “He is not yet been released,” SB sources said on Wednesday evening.

Death in custody
2016-05-05
[DAWN] WITH unbridled powers comes the inevitability of abuse. That symbiotic link has been illustrated, gruesomely and assertively, with the death on Tuesday of Aftab Ahmed, senior member of the MQM and Dr Farooq Sattar’s aide.

He was being held by the Rangers in preventive detention for 90 days, having been nabbed
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
by the law-enforcement agency barely 48 hours earlier.

The Rangers’ claim that Ahmed had been brought alive to the hospital suffering from chest pains and had died after 25 minutes of admission stood in stark contrast to the hospital authorities’ statement that the patient had "no pulse and no blood pressure" on arrival.

It indicates the extent to which the paramilitary force will distort facts to protect itself from blame, although a 42-year-old detainee dying of a heart attack -- that too so soon after being taken into custody -- should in itself be cause for investigation.

Shocking images of Ahmed’s brutalised body that soon emerged on social media left little doubt as to what the dear departed had been subjected to while in jug, a fact that the DG Rangers himself had to later concede.

DG Rangers admits deceased MQM worker was tortured during custody
2016-05-04
[DAWN] Director General (DG) Rangers Major General Bilal Akber accepted that the dear departed MQM worker was tortured by Rangers in jug and vowed that strict action will be taken against those responsible for misconduct.

Talking to DawnNews on Tuesday night, Akbar accepted that Aftab Ahmed was tortured during custody and the standard operating procedures were not followed by some Rangers personnel in this case.

The DG Rangers assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this misconduct but maintained that Aftab's death had occurred due to a heart attack.

The statement comes after pictures and videos were seen doing rounds on the social media, reportedly showing the corpse of the dear departed MQM worker having major torture marks across his body.

Earlier in the day, a Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader claimed that a party member, said to be the coordinator of senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar, died in the custody of Rangers.

"Aftab Ahmed died during Rangers custody as he was detained for 90 days for no reason," MQM spokesperson Wasay Jalil said in a tweet.
