Trump wipes the smile off Obama's face - Washington Examiner |
2024-12-19 |
![]() ...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the Worldin the general election. Then he beat Kamala while dodging bullets... 's most striking characteristics today are clarity, confidence, and calm. This is extraordinary in a man renowned for chaos, confusion, and the thin-skinned hurling of demeaning insults. But it is a truth that needs to be acknowledged and accounted for to understand what we are witnessing as Trump prepares to resume the presidency. His presser at Mar-a-Lago on Dec. 16 revealed a man almost preternaturally at ease with himself, his mission, his domestic support, and his acceptance abroad. His tone was measured, even somewhat humble, despite some bragging. When he dismissed questions, as he justifiably did once or twice, it was not done angrily or in a way that looked petty but with an assurance that widened the gap between himself and his erstwhile adversaries. The press asked questions almost deferentially, showing respect for his office and a quietude rooted in the magnitude of his political triumph and mandate. The spectacle was a stunning contrast with the media maelstrom of his first term, when the likes of CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... 's Ace Newshound Jim Acosta ...CNN's showboating White House correspondent... , posing vainly as a modern-Danton or people's tribune, treated Trump as though he were axiomatically as illegitimate a president as Crooked HillaryClinton ...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away. Politix is not one of her talents, but it's something she keeps trying to do... and others bitterly claimed. But as the days and weeks of the current presidential transition pass by, the significance of the stunning electoral outcome on Nov. 5 is settling on Trump, the nation, and the rest of the world. Van Jones, one of the Left's level-headed analysts, captured the truth lucidly in an interview with CNN's Chris Cillizza. When Cillizza asked Jones how such a supposedly unlikely guy as Trump ''became the one that cracked the code,'' Jones rejected the premise of the question. ''Can we cut it out? — Donald Trump is smarter than me, you, and all critics. You know how we know? Because he has the White House, the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court, the popular vote, he has a massive media ecosystem bigger than the mainstream built around him and for him, and a religious fervor in a political movement around him, and his best buddy is the richest person in the history of the world, and the most relevant Kennedy is with him. This dude is a phenomenon. He is the most powerful human on Earth in our lifetime. And we're still saying, 'How is this guy doing it?' We look like idiots.'' Jones's litany would give anyone confidence in their position and their power. Trump is the only president other than Grover Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone, ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich... 130 years ago to win reelection after defeat. Assuming he completes his second term in office, he will have led the Republican Party for as long as Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush combined. He was impeached twice, hounded by corrupt officials in a banana-state-style lawfare campaign, convicted on 34 trumped-up felonies, faced two liquidation attempts, was shot once, and faced voters who'd been told by what was once the opinion-forming elite that he was manifestly ineligible for election and should be rejected. In the face of all this, America essentially said, ''Stuff that,'' and chose him to return to office, sweeping all swing states with a near landslide in the Electoral College and a plurality of the popular vote. Whereas in 2016, Trump could be seen as an aberration and supported by fewer voters than opposed him, today, no such self-deception is available to his detractors. The change means that he is approaching governing with a more radical reform agenda, which he is articulating with more sober and persuasive rhetoric. Although he pledged in 2016 to ''drain the swamp,'' he approached that task, if at all, only tentatively despite much braggadocio. Now, he is arriving in office more determined in his goals but more restrained and deliberate in his language. It has produced in him less swagger and more solidity. His opponents and critics have yet to work out how to respond. In the face of Trump's popular election victory, the largely silent Left and foreign leaders know that a repudiation of Trump would now be read as a repudiation of America. Naturally, foreign leaders, many of whom are already on thin ice with their own people, will not do that. And here in the United States, many critics will not do it yet. President Joe The Big GuyBiden ...46th president of the U.S. Former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body.... has vanished, and Trump is universally treated as the leader of the world's most powerful nation. This was apparent early this month at the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Gay Paree and at his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron. In 2016, then-President Barack Obama I inhaled. That was the point... mocked a tweet in which Trump called him ''perhaps the worst president in the history of the United States.'' Obama responded, ''At least I will go down as a president,'' and then dropped his mic to emphasize his smiling contempt. We cannot know how Trump's second term will pan out. But his political achievement already outshines that of Obama, who is no longer smiling. |

ICC top judge pans ‘appalling’ US threat to penalize court over Israel arrest warrants |
2024-12-03 |
[IsraelTimes] Tomoko Akane references threat by US Senator Graham, who said Washington would sanction allies who cooperate over warrants targeting Netanyahu and Gallant The president of the International Criminal Court lashed out at the United States and Russia for interfering with its investigations, calling attacks on the court "appalling." "The court is being threatened with draconian economic sanctions by another permanent member of the Security Council as if it was a terrorist organization," Judge Tomoko Akane said in her address to the institution’s annual meeting, which opened on Monday. Akane was referring to remarks made by US Sen. Lindsey Graham ...soft-spoken senator from South Carolina, former best buddy of John MaverickMcCain. Since McCain's demise, Graham has become more outspoken, more Republican and more of a supporter of President Trump. The speech he gave in support of Brett Kavanaugh was downright manly and really cheesed off the Dems... , whose Republican party will control both branches of Congress in January, and who called the court a "dangerous joke" and urged Congress to sanction its prosecutor. "To any ally, Canada, Britannia, Germany, La Belle France, if you try to help the ICC, we’re going to sanction you," Graham said on Fox News. Graham was angered by an announcement last month that judges had granted a request from the court’s chief prosecutor Karim Khan to issue arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister along with Hamas ![]() ’s military chief Mohammed Deif — who Israel has said it killed in an ... KABOOM!... this summer — for crimes against humanity in connection with the nearly 14-month war against Hamas in Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppressionand disproportionate response... ICC FACES CHALLENGES IN IMPLEMENTING ARREST WARRANTS Graham’s threat isn’t seen as just empty words. US President-elect Trump'>Donald Trump ...They hit him with slander, they impeached him twice. Nancy Pelosi tore up his State of the Union address on national TV. They stole an election and put his adherents in jail. They vilified him. They couldn't crucify him, so they shot him. Still, they can't keep him down... sanctioned the court’s previous prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, with a travel ban and asset freeze for investigating American troops and intelligence officials in Afghanistan. Akane on Monday also had harsh words for Russia. "Several elected officials are being subjected to arrest warrants from a permanent member of the Security Council," she said. Moscow issued warrants for Khan and others in response to an investigation into President Vladimir Putin ...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances... The Assembly of States Parties, which represents the ICC’s 124 member countries, will convene its 23rd conference to elect committee members and approve the court’s budget against a backdrop of unfavorable headlines. The ICC was established in 2002 as the world’s permanent court of last resort to prosecute individuals responsible for the most heinous atrocities — war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression. The court only becomes involved when "nations are unable or unwilling to prosecute those crimes on their territory. To date, 124 countries have signed on to the Rome Statute, which created the institution. Those who have not include Israel, Russia, China and the US. The ICC has no police force and relies on member states to execute arrest warrants. The decision to warrant issues for Netanyahu and ex-defense minister Yoav Gallant has been denounced by critics of the court and given only milquetoast approval by many of its supporters, a stark contrast to the robust backing of an arrest warrant for Putin last year over war crimes in Ukraine. The two wars also have starkly different backgrounds. Leading up to its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Putin expressed increasingly belligerent views toward its smaller neighbor, challenging Ukraine’s legitimacy as a state, and arguing that it was a historic part of Russia. Moscow then annexed parts of the country under its occupation in September 2022. Global security expert Janina Dill worried that such responses could undermine global justice efforts. "It really has the potential to damage not just the court, but international law," she told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. Milena Sterio, an expert in international law at Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone, ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. Clooney advised the current prosecutor on his request for the warrants for Netanyahu and others. "Sanctions are a huge burden," Sterio said. ACCUSATIONS AGAINST KHAN Also hanging heavy over the meeting in The Hague are the internal pressures that Khan faces. In October, the AP reported the 54-year-old British lawyer is facing allegations he tried to coerce a female aide into a sexual relationship and groped her. Two co-workers in whom the woman confided reported the alleged misconduct in May to the court’s independent watchdog, which says it interviewed the woman and ended its inquiry after five days when she opted against filing a formal complaint. Khan was never questioned. He has denied the claims. The Assembly of States Parties has announced it will launch an external probe into the allegations. It’s not clear if the investigation will be addressed during the meeting. Khan took the floor after Akane. He didn’t address the accusations against him or the threats against the court directly, other than to say the institution was facing "unprecedented challenges." Instead, he highlighted his office’s recent request for an arrest warrant against the head of Myanmar’s military government and said he planned to request warrants related to Afghanistan and Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... in the coming months. Late last week, six countries including La Belle France, Luxembourg, and Mexico asked Khan’s office to look into possible crimes in Afghanistan since the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... took control in 2021. While Khan isn’t obligated to open an investigation in response to such a request, historically court prosecutors have done so. The court, which has long faced accusations of ineffectiveness, will have no trials pending after two conclude in December. While it has issued a number of arrest warrants in recent months, many high-profile suspects remain on the lam. Member states don’t always act. Mongolia refused to arrest Putin when he visited in September. Sudan’s former president Omar al-Bashir ...Former President-for-Life of Sudan. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to ArabizeDarfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. He was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it... is wanted by the ICC over accusations related to the conflict in Darfur, but his country has refused to hand him over. Last week, Khan requested a warrant for the head of Myanmar’s military regime, Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, for attacks against the country’s Rohingya Moslem minority. Judges have yet to decide on that request. "It becomes very difficult to justify the court’s existence," Sterio said. One imagines so. |

US mother holds HIV-positive man at gunpoint for raping her 12-year-old daughter

![]() This month, after her mother discovered the evidence in her Oklahoma City home, the 12-year-old girl went to detectives and said, "He raped me," according to the Kansas City Star. Donovan Scott Sheppard, 39, was picked up by the girl's mother, whom he was living with at the time, after getting into a pub brawl on January 13, according to the police. When Sheppard and the mother arrived, the little child was asleep in the house, and the mother quickly went to bed, according to KFOR, which cited an affidavit. Reports state that when the mother, who was first only identified as an adult female residing in the house, awoke, she quickly saw Sheppard raping her daughter.
According to the Kansas City Star, Sheppard has been coaching young baseball for the Oklahoma Aftermath squad for several years. Investigators noted in the criminal complaint that he was not using a condom when he raped the girl, and he reportedly revealed to authorities that he was HIV positive. Transgender Ohio House candidate fails to make ballot for not listing former name |

Vanessa Joy was the only Democrat seeking the Ohio House 50th District seat, which forms a U-shape in Stark County and includes Canal Fulton, East Canton, Massillon and Minerva. Joy had enough valid signatures to qualify. Problem was, Stark County's four-member Board of Elections found a flaw in her petitions because she legally changed her name in 2022 and did not include her former name on the petitions she'd circulated, as required by law. Joy said she didn't know she had to include her former name. State law requires anyone who's changed names during the past five years — for almost any reason — to include his or her former name on petitions. "That's annoying ... obviously they got me on that," she said by phone. Joy said she'll reach out to members of the state's House Democratic Caucus for advice. By law, non-certified candidates have until Friday to appeal the board's decision. ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ... JewishNews] The future U.S.-Israel relationship is one of the most pressing issues facing Israelis. That’s according to a new op-ed in The Wall Street Journal by Walter Russell Mead, a distinguished fellow in strategy and statesmanship at the Hudson Institute who has written the "global view" column at the Journal since 2018. The WSJ piece is pay walled, so this is the next best thing. "There is nothing written in the stars that guarantees its permanence," he wrote of the relationship between Israel and the United States. To Mead, neither anti-Israel BDS activists calling for Washington to boycott Jerusalem nor the pro-Israel lobby will drive change. "Those forces provide the mood music for the relationship, and at the margin and on certain very specific issues have an effect. But the real forces lie elsewhere," he wrote. "American policy toward Israel depends less on poll numbers than on how a given U.S. president sees American interests world-wide and where Israel and the Middle East fit into the administration’s global foreign policy," he wrote. Where U.S. leaders previously prioritized Middle East oil, many on the left now focus on climate change and many on the right are isolationist, according to Mead. "How much does the Middle East matter if the world is moving away from fossil fuel?" he wrote. "Similarly, if isolationist perspectives among Democratic progressives or Republican populists dominate the agenda, U.S.-Israel relations likely will cool." Should Washington back away from Israel, it wouldn’t be wholesale and wouldn’t be disastrous for the Jewish state, stated Mead. "Narendra Modi’s India would eagerly embrace a closer technological and military relationship with the Jewish state. China, Russia and even ![]() would see serious benefits in a strategic relationship with Jerusalem," he wrote. "History offers no guarantees and problems remain, but the citizens of this extraordinary state have every reason to look forward with hope."

Between 10 and 20 minutes later, Garcia said, he saw Oropeza load his AR-style rifle as he ran toward his family’s house. "I told my wife, ’Get inside. This man has loaded his weapon,’" Garcia said. "My wife told me to go inside because ’He won’t fire at me. I’m a woman.’"
The grieving father said the victim told him he needed to survive "because my children were without a mother and one of their parents had to stay alive to take care of them." Garcia said that even though the gunman tried shooting him, with bullets flying everywhere, he was somehow able to avoid getting hit. Garcia’s wife, Sonia Guzman, 25, was the first person to be slain in the rampage. His son Daniel Enrique Laso, 9, was also killed along with Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21, Julisa Molina Rivera, 31, and Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18, police said. "Anybody that changes the name of the once storied Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians should not be running for the United States Senate representing the Great People of Ohio," Trump said in an emailed statement. U.S. charges man who made bomb threat near U.S. Capitol |

U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui ordered a mental competency evaluation for Roseberry after he said he could not understand the proceedings against him because he had not been able to take his medications for blood pressure and his "mind." "My memory isn't that well, sir," Roseberry said, adding that his wife has power of attorney over his medical issues and he did not know the names of his medications. Roseberry, 51, spread alarm at the Capitol and prompted the evacuation of nearby government buildings on Thursday. He live-streamed threats on Facebook about having a possible bomb while holding what appeared to be a metal cannister on his lap. "The revolution's on, it's here," Roseberry said in the video. "I'm ready to die for the cause." Facebook later suspended his account and removed the video. Roseberry surrendered to law enforcement without incident, and police said they found possible bomb-making materials but no bombs inside a truck. A law enforcement official said there was no evidence so far suggesting anyone else was involved in or conspired with Roseberry in staging Thursday's incident.
