Belgian official says attacks on Jews in country a coordinated effort 'inspired' by Iran

A top Belgian security official has said an Iranian-led effort was behind a number of attacks targeting Jews in the country earlier this year.

Speaking to public broadcaster RTBF, Gert Vercauteren, head of Belgium’s Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis, said those behind a kaboom on a synagogue in Liege and the torching of a car in Antwerp "certainly followed Iran’s call to strike Jewish and Israeli interests everywhere in the world."

None were hurt in either attack.

Vercauteren said the attacks were part of a coordinated effort, and not isolated cases. He said an individual later arrested in ~~The Sick Man of Europe~~ Turkey

That’s Mohammad Al-Saadi (more fully Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi), from Iraq’s Kataeb Hezbollah on behalf of the IRGC, whose hired local criminals claimed 18 attacks in Europe and two in Canada in the name of figleaf organization Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI), whose name roughly translates to the Islamic Movement of the People of the Right Hand.

"There have been other interventions, and that is why, for now, we have not seen any more attacks inspired by Iran," he said.

The blast at Liege’s Great Synagogue in March shattered windows and damaged the main door. It was condemned by the government as a "despicable antisemitic act."

Several people were later detained, though no charges have been filed.

Two teens were also arrested later in March for a suspected antisemitic torching of a car in Antwerp.

In several cases, claim-of-responsibility videos circulated on social media, shared by groups identified as pro-Iranian.

The Great Synagogue reopened two months after the blast, according to Belgium’s national Belga News Agency.

Built in 1899, the synagogue also serves as a museum for the history of Liege’s Jewish community.

Iran's Expanding Campaign Against Jewish Targets Outside Israel

Twenty-four governments, including the United States, Britannia, Canada, Australia, Germany and Sweden, jointly condemned "lethal plotting and other malign actions" by Iran's IRGC Intelligence Organization, Quds Force and Ministry of Intelligence. They specifically identified "Jewish and Israeli communities and interests" among Iran's targets and noted the Iranian security services' longstanding relationship with international and small-time Mister Big groups.

increasingly appears to be outsourcing attacks to criminals and other intermediaries, making Tehran's responsibility harder to detect.

Sweden provides an early example. In January 2024, a live grenade was discovered at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm. That May, Sweden's security service announced that Iran was using Swedish criminal networks to commit ~~violent~~ mostly peaceful acts, including against Jewish and Israeli targets. The United States subsequently sanctioned Sweden's notorious Foxtrot criminal network for allegedly carrying out the embassy attack on Iran's behalf.

The story has continued. This week Sweden expelled an Iranian diplomat and summoned Iran's ambassador over evidence of Iranian efforts to threaten Jewish and Israeli interests, as well as Iranian dissidents, in Sweden.

Iran's actions in Australia have been even more dramatic. A kosher restaurant in Sydney, Lewis' Continental Kitchen, was set on fire in October 2024. Two months later, Melbourne's Adass Israel Synagogue was Molotov cocktailed.

After an extensive investigation, Australia's domestic intelligence agency, ASIO, concluded that the Iranian government had directed both attacks and likely additional attacks as well. Australia expelled Iran's ambassador, and subsequently designated the IRGC a state sponsor of terrorism.

According to Australian authorities, Iran deliberately used intermediaries to conceal its involvement. The objective was not merely to damage Jewish institutions, but also to frighten Australian Jews and exacerbate divisions within Australian society.

The United States has uncovered its own plots. Federal prosecutors alleged in 2024 that an IRGC asset, Farhad Shakeri, had been instructed to surveil two Jewish Americans in New York, with $500,000 offered for the murder of either.

Then came an even more remarkable case this year. Prosecutors allege that Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, an Iraqi national associated with the Iranian-backed Kata'ib Hezbollah and the IRGC, supplied an undercover operative with photographs and locations of a prominent New York synagogue and Jewish institutions in Los Angeles and Scottsdale, Arizona. He allegedly discussed whether the New York synagogue should be bombed or set on fire. The attacks were never carried out.

Germany and Britannia have confronted similar activity. German authorities uncovered alleged Iranian surveillance of the German-Israeli Society and the office of Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany. Another suspect allegedly sought weapons for attacks on Jewish targets.

British authorities, meanwhile, uncovered hostile surveillance of such targets as the Israeli Embassy, Bevis Marks Synagogue, the JW3 Jewish community center and the Community Security Trust.

Then, in 2026, Britannia experienced a succession of actual attacks claimed by an obscure organization called Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI), or the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right. Targets included four Jewish-community Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green, synagogues and other Jewish institutions. In April, two Jewish men were seriously maimed in a stabbing.

Britannia eventually sanctioned HAYI as an Iran-linked organization, noting that it had grabbed credit for seven attacks against British locations associated with Jewish and Israeli communities and Persian-language media.

HAYI's activities extended well beyond Britannia. It claimed attacks against Jewish targets elsewhere in Europe, while U.S. prosecutors allege that al-Saadi participated in its activities on behalf of Kata'ib Hezbollah and the IRGC. Among the incidents described by the Justice Department was the April 2026 burning of a synagogue in Skopje, North Macedonia. Prosecutors say al-Saadi subsequently distributed HAYI video of the burning.

Canada presents a somewhat murkier picture. Canadian intelligence has warned that Iran uses organized-crime proxies and has disrupted Iranian plots. A Canadian intelligence assessment reported by Global News reportedly concluded that Iranian intelligence may be using Canadian criminal organizations to target Jews. U.S. authorities also allege that al-Saadi's network planned attacks in Canada.

Thus, amid the much broader increase in antisemitic violence since October 7, Western authorities have identified something more specific: a multinational Iranian and Iranian-proxy campaign targeting Jews and Jewish institutions, often using small-time Mister Bigs and other intermediaries to obscure who is ultimately responsible.

One disturbing aspect is that the target countries' response has been relatively restrained: an expelled diplomat here, a sanctioned entity there. Should the Iranian government's attempt to murder these countries' citizens demand a stronger response?

A man in Florida has been arrested for breaking the window of a synagogue in the city of Sarasota in what police said was a hate crime intentionally targeting the Jewish community.

In a statement on Friday, the Sarasota Police Department said it had arrested Brayton Laschinger, a 30-year-old resident of the city, for smashing the window of the Chabad of Downtown SRQ.

According to police, Laschinger — wearing a blue towel over his head — threw a brick through the window of the synagogue around 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

"Laschinger claims that the same morning he saw propaganda on social media and that was making him mad," the police statement said. "He admitted to detectives that he threw the brick at the window of the synagogue because it was a Jewish place of worship."

Police said that Laschinger is facing a felony charge of criminal mischief of a religious building as a hate crime.

According to a local Florida news report, police said the estimated value for repairing the damages caused by the brick was more than $5,000. The report said that Laschinger’s roommate helped police identify him based on the video footage.

A New York City district attorney on Friday arraigned a suspect on hate crimes charges for antisemitic vandalism, weeks after the man was indicted on manslaughter charges for the death of a Jewish journalist.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said that Dawood Faisal, 22, had been arraigned on hate crimes charges for destroying property in May at a kosher bagel shop that had Israeli flags outside.

On May 15, Faisal upended nine plant stands outside the shop, Bagels & Co., spilling dirt and plants on the sidewalk in front of the business. He then threw fistfuls of the dirt at the shop, Katz said.

A week later, Faisal knocked over 11 plant stands at the shop, picked up the plant pots, and emptied the pots onto the sidewalk. Some pots were too large to knock over, so he ripped the plants out of them, Katz said.

Neighborhood residents and Jewish community activists rallied at the shop after the vandalism in a show of solidarity.

Faisal was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree as a hate crime, criminal mischief in the fourth degree as a hate crime, criminal mischief in the third degree, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.

He faces a maximum of seven years in prison if convicted.

In June, Faisal was arraigned for manslaughter, assault and other charges related to a vehicular incident that killed Cara Trager, 71. There did not appear to be a direct connection between the car crash and the vandalization.

While driving, Faisal allegedly sped through two red lights and smashed into two other vehicles. One of the cars he struck veered into a crosswalk, striking Trager and her husband, who was injured, Katz said.

Faisal had been driving more than 75 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone, Katz said.

Faisal attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was apprehended by passersby, Katz said.

Trager was a journalist based in Queens, a beloved member of the Jewish community, and a supporter of local Jewish institutions, such as the Solomon Schechter School of Queens, and the family’s synagogue, Etz Hayim at Hollis Hills Bayside.

Jews are targeted in hate crimes in New York City more than all other groups combined.

QNS adds that Mr. Dawood of Fresh Meadows is facing more than 15 years if convicted of ten counts including vehicular manslaughter for his June attack. At his arraignment he pled not guilty and was remanded to custody without bail, which makes it interesting that he was free to vandalize so quickly thereafter.

Iraqi officials, including lawmakers, arrested on corruption charges in overnight raid UPDATE: arrestees tools of Iran

[NY Post] Several Iraqi political officials were arrested early Sunday on corruption charges, Iraq’s state-run Iraqi News Agency reported.

It said the arrests were based on statement made by former Deputy Minister of Oil Adnan al-Jumaili, who was arrested last month, and "included members of Parliament whose immunity had been lifted."

Iraqi security forces sealed off all entrances to the capital’s heavily fortified Green Zone early Sunday and carried out raids inside the compound that houses key government institutions and foreign embassies.

A security agency report obtained by The Associated Press said that seven people were arrested, among them five members of Parliament.

Some of the arrestees were from the political bloc of former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. It was not immediately clear what the specific accusations against them were.

Al-Sudani’s bloc won the largest share of seats in November’s parliamentary elections, but he ultimately stepped aside amid a deadlock in the Coordination Framework — a coalition of Shiite parties allied with Iran that brought al-Sudani to power — over their preferred candidate for premier.

He was replaced by Ali al-Zaidi, a businessman and political newcomer, who emerged as a consensus candidate and received the blessing of the United States.

The arrests are likely to have ripple effects across Iraq’s fractured political landscape, where accusations of corruption frequently intersect with rivalries over power and influence.

'BIG FISH'
Abd al-Rahman al-Jazairi, a Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) leader affiliated with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, told Rudaw that the raids to arrest the "big fish" in Iraq will continue until Zaidi visits the US in mid-July.

"Several more operations are also scheduled to take place tonight in Baghdad and other provinces," Jazairi added.

He said the operation will also target some leaders of armed groups operating outside government control.

"A number of leaders of armed groups are also set to be arrested. They must surrender themselves to the court, otherwise they will be arrested and brought before the law," he said.

Zaidi's government has intensified efforts to rein in the weapons of Iranian-aligned armed groups.

He further noted that among the prominent leaders arrested in the campaign is Muthana al-Samarrai, head of the Sunni Azm Alliance.

A source from his party confirmed to Rudaw that Samarrai has been arrested.

When asked whether the FBI has been involved in the raids, Mazen Gharib, a member of parliament's security and defense committee, told Rudaw's Sangar Abdulrahman, "I live in the same compound as other parliamentarians, what I saw were Iraqi forces but whether they are supporting the operations, I am not sure."

He added, "the situation in Baghdad is calm now… now only VIPs like parliamentarians, ministers and their deputies are allowed to enter the Green Zone. Ordinary people are not allowed to enter, but I think in the coming hours, that will also be resolved."

[IsraelTimes] Police in Toronto, Canada, say hired gunmen are targeting Jewish sites in the city.

Gunfire and arson attacks have repeatedly hit synagogues and other Jewish sites in Toronto and other Canadian cities, without causing any fatalities.

The chief of the Toronto police, Myron Demkiw, says at a press conference that young people are being recruited through encrypted messaging apps to carry out the attacks, according to The Toronto Star.

“In order to get paid, they’re required to film their attacks. Who’s paying for this? This is what we are trying to determine,” Demkiw says.

“It is clear that some of the people hiring these criminals want to create a sense of fear in our communities, including in the Jewish community,” he adds.

Last week, a Toronto police officer was shot and killed during an arrest linked to a shooting against the US consulate in Toronto in March.

The alleged mastermind behind the consulate shooting was Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, according to a criminal complaint filed in a New York court.

Al-Saadi is an Iraqi-Iranian national with deep ties to the Iranian regime who orchestrated a terror campaign against Jewish, Israeli and American targets in the US, Europe and Canada, according to US federal prosecutors.

Investigators said Al-Saadi paid attackers to target the sites and required them to film the attacks for propaganda.

[Commentary] Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat did not, with great fanfare, sign a cease-fire in 1979. They signed a historic peace treaty. The American Revolutionary War was not ended by the Cease-Fire of Gay Paree, nor do we speak of the Cease-Fire of Versailles.

Yet cease-fires—vague, temporary, and ill-defined periods in which combatants sometimes retreat to their corners and sometimes just keep punching—are the best we can do when it comes to the Middle East today.

There is no great mystery here for anyone but the willfully blind: States that won’t make peace with Israel will nonetheless make cease-fires with Israel because a cease-fire isn’t peace.

These antagonists have one more characteristic in common, and that is their primary motive. We can discern this motive by observing where else, and against whom specifically, they carry on this same war.

Last week, Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi found himself in a Manhattan courtroom on terrorism-related charges that included his alleged role in the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green last month, as well as the Molotov cocktailing of a synagogue on North Macedonia and plans to carry out similar Molotov cocktailings in several American cities.

Saadi is, according to the evidence against him, commander of an Iranian proxy group under the aegis of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the state military organization that is likely running the country since the death of the last ayatollah and mysterious condition of the current one.

Three weeks ago, Germany charged two men for allegedly planning to assassinate Jewish communal leaders in Berlin, as well as other identifiably Jewish targets. The leader of the plot was a Danish citizen who, according to Germany, worked for the IRGC.

Two months before that was the Michigan terror attack, in which a man tried to massacre Jewish children at a synagogue. His connections were to Hezbollah, also an Iranian militia.

is currently waging a global war on Jews. Israel is part of that war, and so is America. But so is every other country with Jews in it. Unless I missed it, no one has yet demanded a cease-fire in this broader war, because the Jews of Golders Green and Berlin and North Macedonia and New York and Arizona and Michigan and Los Angeles are not firing at Iran. They are only being fired at—by Iran. And the campus activists and NGOs and enlightened progressive politicians don’t seem to want that firing to cease.

And the cease-fires we do get are a joke, for the same reason: Iran has declared a war that is permanent. That means that while the forgivably war-weary can try to forget about the conflicts each time a cease-fire is reached, Jews cannot. Nor should anyone in the countries in which those Jews reside, because they will be either targets of Iran or at risk of being collateral damage in attacks on major population centers.

Saadi is a revealing example of how this all works. By all accounts, Saadi worked closely with Qasem Soleimani, the IRGC commander who, more than any other single person, was the poster boy for Iran’s global wars until he was killed in a U.S. dronezap in 2020. Saadi claimed he was "like a son" to the late terrorist leader. Saadi also appears to have had a reasonably close working relationship with the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

until he was killed in the opening hours of U.S. and Israeli operations in February.

The complaint against Saadi includes records of him calling for violence against "Jewish synagogues" and "Zionist headquarters" and "a Jewish temple" and "a Jewish center" and the like.

Again, there will be no cease-fires proffered by figures like Saadi. There is no expectation of getting Iran to formally agree to stop targeting Jews around the world for liquidation.

Iran will discuss potential cease-fires with the United States military, of course. Because it would like the Americans to turn a blind eye to its unceasing global war. But there is no point before, during, or after negotiations for cease-fires or nuclear deals at which Jews are not at that moment being targeted for murder somewhere by Iran. When that war is over, we can talk of peace.

An explosion hit a synagogue in Belgium, arsonists ignited a synagogue in the Netherlands, a bomb rocked a Jewish school in Amsterdam, four Hatzola ambulances were torched in London and a car was burned in a Jewish neighborhood in Antwerp, all during March.

A new group called Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI) claimed credit. The group, whose name roughly translates to the Islamic Movement of the People of the Right Hand, was unknown until then. Analysts and Sherlocks suspected Iranian involvement, but law enforcement investigations had not publicly exposed any connection to Iran.

That changed this month, when US prosecutors in the federal Southern District of New York court connected Iran to the attacks in Europa

and revealed plots targeting Jewish sites in the US. The investigation also shed light on the alleged motives and tactics of the attackers.

The complaint and an indictment on Thursday accused Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, an alleged member of the Kataeb Hezbollah, an Iraq-based, US-designated terrorist group aligned with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), with plotting at least 18 attacks in Europe and two in Canada. al-Saadi helped initiate the HAYI campaign, plotted its attacks and distributed its propaganda, prosecutors said.

The IRGC supports Kataeb Hezbollah, Hezbollah and other proxy groups with training, funding, weapons and intelligence to carry out its broader aim of "lethal action" against the US and its allies. The groups share the same ideology and are part of Iran’s "Axis of Resistance®," prosecutors said, putting HAYI in the same network.

Al-Saadi, 32, was born in Tehran, but lived most of his life in Iraq. He is a dual citizen of Iran and Iraq. He was arrested while traveling in ~~The Sick Man of Europe~~ Turkey

and extradited to the US in mid-May.

After his arrest, al-Saadi waived his Miranda rights and explained his role to US law enforcement. Investigators obtained further information from al-Saadi’s iPhone and social media accounts.

The evidence showed that al-Saadi, attackers in Europe and Iran-linked operatives in the Middle East regularly shared messages and videos of their operations in the different countries, both before and after the start of the war.

Investigators tied al-Saadi to the March attacks, as well as further incidents in April: an attempted bombing of a pro-Israel group in the Netherlands, flammable materials thrown into an Israeli restaurant in Munich, arson against a synagogue in North Macedonia and two synagogues in London, arson against Jewish ambulances in London, a drone attack targeting the Israeli embassy in the UK, and, last month, the stabbing of two Jewish men in London. Other attacks targeted non-Jewish sites connected to the US.

After the attacks, al-Saadi allegedly posted propaganda videos of the incidents, claiming credit for HAYI. It was not clear if HAYI had actually orchestrated each attack it claimed credit for.

Prosecutors said HAYI is a front for Kataeb Hezbollah and emerged in March to obscure Kataeb Hezbollah’s involvement in the campaign. HAYI’s founding statement was broadcast on Shi’ite bad boy media channels used by Kataeb Hezbollah, Hezbollah and the IRGC, and HAYI uses a logo similar to those of Kataeb Hezbollah and Hezbollah.

’KILL THEM EVERYWHERE’
Al-Saadi also connected HAYI to Iran due to his associations with IRGC leaders. al-Saadi, as a commander of Kataeb Hezbollah, coordinated with IRGC leadership, prosecutors said. al-Saadi was "like a son" to Soleimani and the two regularly traveled together. He was also close to the late Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei

, meeting with him three days before he was killed in a US-Israeli strike. He met with Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani last month to discuss a "solution" to the war and said he was able to "raise or lower the level of attacks," prosecutors said.

On February 28, the day the war began, al-Saadi posted on Telegram, "Do not abandon the blood of your imam of the time, oh Shiites of Iraq. Kill everyone who supports America and Israel."

"Civil and military targets, as well as voices of discord, kill them everywhere," he said in Arabic.

In another statement, on X, he said, "Every individual or group capable of killing an American or Zionist target, whether civilian or military, in any country of the world, should begin by targeting them."

A week later, in a typo-strewn English-language post on Snapchat titled "Shadow soldiers," he said, "To all jihadens people in weast ,east earth ...Its permission to all silent cells (R362 — C357 — A351) For work."

Investigators said the messages were meant to "activate terrorist cells around the world." It wasn’t clear what the code "R362 — C357 — A351" referred to. The attacks began days later.

PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE
The day of the first attacks in Europe, al-Saadi posted a call on Telegram for "warriors of Islam" to engage in "jihad." He began posting images of attacks, including against synagogues, Jewish schools, the Hatzola ambulances and London’s Israeli embassy, with HAYI’s logo.

Prosecutors said al-Saadi had been on FaceTime calls with the assailants during some of the attacks, and had created and disseminated propaganda videos of the incidents.

He told Sherlocks he was responsible for HAYI’s media operation, and that the propaganda footage of the attacks was "psychological warfare" meant to stoke terror in civilians.

In March, al-Saadi told a Kataeb Hezbollah contact that, "The most important thing is that within the psychological warfare, [the HAYI messages] are useful," and that "anything that distracts the enemy is useful."

Also in March, al-Saadi sent a contact at a Chinese media company raw footage of the arson against Hatzola ambulance in London, the indictment said.

After the stabbing of two Jewish men in London, HAYI grabbed credit, al-Saadi told a contact to post footage of the attack, and added that "there will be a shooting at a restaurant," which did not materialize.

He also sought to target the US. His iPhone and social media accounts had images of him meeting with Iranian personnel in a military intelligence building with a map of the US on the wall and a list of "legitimate targets" in the US.

In a March call with an FBI informant, al-Saadi said he was "running multiple teams," was willing to kill people, and asked the informant to help attack targets in the US and Canada, such as "Jewish synagogues" and "Zionist headquarters."

He asked the informant about having a Mexican cartel use a boom-mobile or an improvised bomb to attack Jewish targets in the US, said that a hand grenade was not "powerful" enough, and asked if the assailants were willing to kill people.

"This war will not end. Either they eradicate us, or we eradicate them," he said.

Al-Saadi sent the informant a photograph and a map showing the location of a prominent New York synagogue and directed him to attack the site, and shared the locations of two Jewish targets in Los Angeles and Arizona. The complaint did not identify the specific targets.

He sent the undercover officer a down payment of $3,000 in cryptocurrency and said he would send another $7,000 when the attack was completed. He added that it was "most important" that the attacks "be recorded."

He repeatedly pushed the informant to carry out the attacks immediately, saying, "I wanna see good news tonight."

He was detained while traveling immediately after and transferred to New York on May 14.

Al-Saadi has been charged with eight counts related to terrorism, conspiracy, and bombings. He will be arraigned on Monday.

Americans still debate Iran through an outdated lens. We speak of war as something that starts with bombs, troop deployments, or congressional declarations. Yet Iran has waged asymmetric war against the United States and the West since 1979 — through terrorism, proxy forces, illicit finance, ideological movements, cyber operations, criminal partnerships, and gray-zone tactics deliberately kept below the threshold of conventional conflict.

The real danger is not merely Iran’s capabilities. It is our refusal to recognize the nature of the fight.

Americans must reframe the debate. The threat is hybrid, networked, and already operating inside the strategic seams of the West.

Many Americans view conflict with Iran as something happening "over there" — in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, the Red Sea, or the Strait of Hormuz. In reality, Iran’s infrastructure has embedded itself much closer to home: across Latin America, inside cartel corridors, through illicit financial networks, migration pipelines, and the operational seams inside the United States itself.

This did not happen by accident. It was built deliberately over decades via proxies, criminal convergence, ideological networks, covert finance, and tradecraft designed to obscure attribution. In fact, just two days after I testified before Congress warning about the convergence between cartel infrastructure, Iranian-backed proxies, and gray-zone warfare, the Department of Justice unsealed charges against an Iraqi national tied to exactly the kind of hybrid threat architecture I described

Prosecutors charged Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, a senior commander in Kata’ib Hizballah (KH)—an Iranian-backed Iraqi militia tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — with directing attacks on Jewish, Israeli, and American targets across Europe and North America, including a plot against a Manhattan synagogue.

The most revealing aspect of the case was not simply the attacks themselves. It was the operational model behind them.

Al-Saadi allegedly sought to coordinate through Mexican cartel-linked smuggling networks and criminal facilitators across the Western Hemisphere. The attacks were branded under a new front group, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI), designed to appear independent while advancing KH, Hezbollah, and IRGC goals.

This layered structure provides operational security, plausible deniability, and strategic distance from the violence itself — hallmarks of Iranian tradecraft. Iran has refined this operational model for decades. In 1983, Iranian cleric and intelligence operative Mohsen Rabbani arrived in Argentina under commercial and religious cover tied to halal meat certification. He became imam of a Buenos Aires mosque while serving as Iran’s cultural attaché. Using mosques, cultural centers, charities, front companies, and diaspora networks, he helped build Iranian and Hezbollah infrastructure across Latin America. The Tri-Border Area (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay) became a hub for Hezbollah financiers, smugglers, traffickers, and money launderers operating alongside criminal networks. This ecosystem enabled the 1992 Israeli Embassy bombing in Buenos Aires and the 1994 AMIA bombing that killed 85 people. Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman’s investigation found Iran directed the attacks while Hezbollah executed them through layered proxies — mirroring today’s tactics.

These are not isolated terrorism cases. They reflect a resilient asymmetric architecture built to operate below the threshold that would trigger conventional war. Iran does not see threats as separate silos — Houthis in the Red Sea, militias in Iraq and Syria, Hezbollah in Latin America, or cartels at the U.S. border. Tehran views them as interconnected fronts in a multi-domain campaign that exploits globalization’s infrastructure: smuggling routes, corruption networks, illicit finance, and governance gaps.

Hezbollah networks have long intersected with Latin American narcotics trafficking, sanctions evasion, and money laundering. DEA investigations, such as Project Cassandra, documented these ties. Recent U.S. Treasury and State Department sanctions targeted Iranian shadow banking systems, front companies, shipping networks, and a "shadow fleet" used to move illicit oil and finance proxies. These financial and logistical tools sustain the broader apparatus of proxy warfare and criminal convergence.

The same operational logic applies elsewhere. Houthis disrupt Red Sea shipping with Iranian backing and deniability. Iran pressures energy markets via the Strait of Hormuz through harassment and proxies. In the Western Hemisphere, Iranian influence overlaps with Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles, transnational drug pipelines, and anti-Western networks involving Russia and China.

Not every cartel operative works for Tehran, but hostile actors routinely exploit the same permissive corridors.

This creates a growing mismatch: adversaries wage persistent, sub-threshold irregular warfare through networks, erosion, and exploitation of open societies, while America still thinks in binaries of "war" versus "peace," "foreign" versus "domestic," or "terrorism" versus "crime."

The southern border is no longer just an immigration or law-enforcement issue. It has become a strategic access point into the U.S. homeland, where transnational networks exploit gaps in ways resembling irregular warfare environments. Inside the country, this expands beyond crime into homeland defense and critical infrastructure concerns.

The Al-Saadi case is not simply another terrorism investigation. It is a warning. Iran’s war against the West did not begin with any single operation, and it will not remain overseas simply because Americans refuse to recognize it. Proxy networks, criminal pipelines, migration corridors, maritime logistics, covert finance, and propaganda ecosystems continue adapting to extend reach while maintaining deniability.

Americans must reframe the debate. The threat is hybrid, networked, and already operating inside the strategic seams of the West.

Recognizing the conflict for what it is — a long-running asymmetric campaign already converging on the homeland — is the first step toward effective defense.

Al-Saadi didn’t seem to be making his desire secret, because he posted a map of their home on social media and wrote, "I say to the Americans look at this picture and know that neither your palaces nor the Secret Service will protect you. We are currently in the stage of surveillance and analysis. I told you, our Dire Revenge is a matter of time."

Hopefully, his Dire Revenge is "no longer a matter of time," but it is a matter of "never." That being said, this is pretty scary stuff and is yet another reminder of the evil we’re facing from the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran. This plot, thankfully, appears to have been snuffed out.

FBI Director Kash Patel said Monday that the FBI is "manhunting" terror suspects anywhere they hide after the bureau captured two high-value targets, including an alleged Iran-linked terrorist and a senior member of Tren de Aragua (TdA).

Patel highlighted the complexity of the simultaneous foreign transfers of custody on "Hannity" and warned that the FBI was "manhunting these people around the globe, putting national security first, and making sure their exploits and ties to terrorism are fully unraveled," calling it the bureau's greatest priority.

Jose Enrique Martinez Flores was extradited from Colombia, and Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, an Iraqi terror suspect, was sent to New York on federal terror charges.

Flores, also known as "Chuqui," was allegedly part of TdA's inner circle, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He is the highest-ranking TdA member to face justice in the United States.

He is charged with one count of conspiring to provide material support to TdA in the form of personnel, including himself, and one count of providing material support to the organization.

Patel said Flores is "directly tied as a senior-most member of Tren de Aragua," adding that the FBI is trying to "clean up President Biden's open border policies."
