Family of 105-year-old Bataan Death March survivor shares his story |
2025-05-14 |
[KRQE] The Bataan Death March is one of the darkest stories of World War Two when Japanese soldiers forced marched more than 70,000 American and Filipino prisoners more than 60 miles. Thousands died or were killed along the way. New Mexico veteran Valdemar DeHerrera may be the last living survivor of that march. He survived the death march, the horror that followed, and came home to build a life of love and family. When the Japanese invaded the Philippines and rounded up American soldiers, DeHerrera and his fellow soldiers avoided capture. “And the people that were left there were left to fight. They would not give up. They wanted to fight because they didn’t want to give up. The Philippines. And so they stayed there. They fought until they had no water, no food, no ammo. It became hand-to-hand. Camp combat,” said Valdemar’s daughter, Juanita DeHerrera Clements. DeHerrera was eventually captured and was part of a second, punishing death march, which was just as lethal as the first. At one point, weak from a lack of food and water, he collapsed on the side of the road. At any point, a Japanese captor would have shot or bayonetted him. But a guardian angel stepped in. “And then he falls. He falls. And this gentleman, Mr. Zacarias, picked him up and carried him, and that’s why he survived,” said Clements. In the prison camp, food was scarce. But DeHerrera’s time as a boy on a farm in northern New Mexico had given him valuable knowledge. “And so, there were a lot of herbs there. So, dad, to get the herbs back into the camp, would act crazy. And they thought that he was crazy anyway, so he would carry the herbs in his little hat or, you know, do things to where he was able to leave him alone. He’d get the herbs, and he saved a lot of the lives of a lot of the soldiers because they had beriberi, malaria, dysentery,” said Clements. Even as he suffered, DeHerrera worried about his parents, who were back in Costilla, New Mexico. “Well, of course it’s going to go through your mind. What is my family thinking? What are they going through with what I’m going through, not knowing where I’m at or what’s happening with me?” Clements said. His time in the camp was its own hell. “One meal a day, rice and rotten, and water. And that was it. But they would work to death too, not only in the, in the cotton fields, but the cotton gins, forced labor. There was a lot of forced labor. Or the Japanese just felt like, I’m just going to go ahead and kill that one over there, why not, you know?” said Clements. It was a hell that went on, day after day, for three years and seven months. “If they didn’t do their job or they didn’t like the way they did their job, they were beaten severely. They would take their weapons and basically hit them in the back. But anything in the back, from the head down to the, to the tailbone,” said Clements. When DeHerrera returned to the United States, he weighed just 80 pounds. After spending months in Santa Fe recovering, he ran into an old family friend, 15-year-old Consuelo DeVargas. They would later marry and went on to have six children, five daughters and a son. The two would stay married until her death in 2019. They have 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. To this day, his children carry his service with them. “What does it feel like to have a father who’s had that experience?” “It’s an honor. It’s an honor. The fact that he talked me into going into the army”, said Clements. DeHerrera retired from the New Mexico Department of Transportation and later worked as a foreman at the nearby mine. The 105-year-old, a long time ago, came to terms with his time in captivity and even the Japanese soldiers who mistreated him. Victor Davis Hanson: 'Civil War' Porn |
2022-08-21 |
[ZERO] As President Joe Biden’s polls stagnate and the midterms approach, we are now serially treated to yet another progressive melodrama about the dangers of a supposed impending radical right-wing violent takeover This time the alleged threat is a Neanderthal desire for a "civil war." The FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Florida home, the dubious rationale for such a historic swoop, and the popular pushback at the FBI and Department of Justice from roughly half the country have further fueled these giddy "civil war" conjectures. Recently "presidential historian" Michael Beschloss speculated about the parameters of such an envisioned civil war. Beschloss is an ironic source. Just days earlier, he had tweeted references to the executions of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who passed U.S. nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union in the 1950s, in connection with the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago. That was a lunatic insinuation that Trump might justly suffer the same lethal fate due to his supposed mishandling of "nuclear secrets." Unhinged former CIA Director Michael Hayden picked up on Beschloss death-penalty prompt, adding that it "sounds about right." Following the identification of NBC booking producer Irene Min Joo Byon on Thursday as the person who instructed an independent journalist affiliated with MSNBC to follow the jury bus in the Rittenhouse case, Byon has deleted both her Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. On Thursday afternoon, Kenosha Judge Bruce Schroeder informed the courtroom of an incident regarding a man that identified himself as "James J. Morrison," who was pulled over for going through a red light, and was following the secure jury bus at around a one block distance. He told police that he was working for Irene Byon, who is a booking producer for NBC. NBC later confirmed that this Morrison was working for them at the time. When confronted by police, who issued him traffic citations, he told the officers that Byon had instructed him to follow the jury bus. As a result, Schroeder has banned MSNBC from the courtroom. "And last evening a person who identified himself as James J. Morrison, who claimed that he was a producer with NBC news but for MSNBC... under the supervision of someone named Irene Byon in New York, for MSNBC. Police stopped him, because he was following in a distance of about a block," said Schroeder. Despite Byon deleting much of her social media presence, Twitter users were quick to grab screenshots, confirming her association with NBC. Subhead ought to be ISIS-K go after Hazeras yet again. [KhaamaPress] An explosion killed at least one and maimed three more civilian people in Police District 18, Dasht-e-Barchi of Kabul on Saturday afternoon, November 13.Spokesperson of the Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... Zabiullah Mujahid in a Twitter post confirmed the casualties but said that the incident happened after a car caught fire but eyewitnesses have said that the car was targeted by a magnetic bomb. Though no group has grabbed credit for the incident, the Taliban officials have acknowledged that they have started investigations about that. Dasht-e-Barchi in the west of Afghanistan is a residence where mostly the Hazara ![]() (Shite Moslems) are living who are often targeted by the ISIS-K affiliates. A bomb went kaboom!on a mini-bus Saturday on a busy commercial street in a Kabul neighborhood mainly populated by members of Afghanistan's minority Hazara community, emergency workers and the bus driver said. At least one person was killed and five maimed. Workers with the ambulance teams at the scene told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the blast appeared to have been caused by a bomb on the bus. The bus driver, speaking to the AP at the hospital, said that at one point during his route, a suspicious man got onto the bus and a few minutes later, the earth-shattering kaboom went off at the back of the bus. The driver, who goes by a single name Murtaza, said he saw two passengers with their clothes on fire falling out of the back of the vehicle while other passengers escaped out the front. The front man for Afghanistan's ruling Taliban ...Arabic for students... , Zabihullah Mujahid, told the AP that a fire broke out on the mini-bus and caused a kaboom, killing one person and wounding another. Photos from the scene showed the burning wreckage of a vehicle with a pall of smoke rising into the air. The explosion took place on the main avenue running through Dashti Barchi, a sprawling neighborhood on the west side of Kabul largely populated by Hazaras. Afghanistan's Hazaras, who are mostly Shiite Moslems, have been the target of a brutal campaign of violence for the past several years, blamed on the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. 2021-11-10 |
![]() Bye-Bri. Brian Williams has announced he’s quitting MSNBC next month after nearly three decades with NBC News. Williams, 62, had been working in the relative hinterlands of the NBC news family for years, scrabbling to turn “The 11th Hour” into a hit following his six-month suspension in 2015 when it came out that he’d falsified details of stories that he’d covered, including one about taking enemy fire while riding in a helicopter in Iraq. In a note seen by Page Six: he wrote to staff Tuesday: “Following much reflection, and after 28 years with the company, I have decided to leave NBC upon the completion of my current contract in December. |

Brian Williams Tearfully Recounts Clinging To Outside Of Airplane To Escape Kabul |
2021-09-03 |
![]() "There was chaos everywhere!" Williams recounted in Friday’s captivating edition of Brian Williams’ The 11th Hour with Brian Williams. "AK-47s were shooting at me as I drove my moped through crowded, burning streets. Chaghama, my wife of twenty years, and our three young sons, Abu-Zar, Muhammed, and Frank Jr, were all piled onto the back seat, while I dodged gunfire and EMPs with incredible precision. We finally arrived at the airport in time to see the last plane taking off." Williams paused a moment to wipe a tear from his eye. "Suddenly, a gigantic Mad Max-style vehicle came up behind us and started chasing us while Taliban soldiers clung to it, blasting rock music and throwing spears at us," Williams continued. "That’s when I hit the nitro, and blasted forward at speeds never before witnessed by humankind. But alas, I was forced to slow down for a brief moment to rescue a baby that was stuck in a tree. As the post-apocalyptic truck began closing in on us, I began to feel that all hope was lost!" Williams took a long draw from his glass of water. "Then I saw it, off in the distance: a humble farmer who had come to town to sell crops in the market from his two-wheeled cart, had temporarily set it down at just the right angle to form a ramp! Sweat dripped from my brow as I charged forward toward the cart, knowing I had to time it just right!" Williams leaned forward and grasped his desk as he stared straight into the camera. "That’s when I hit the nitro, and raced toward that ramp at unfathomable velocity," Williams said while gesturing with his hands to show the angle at which his moped raced upward. "As we jettisoned into the sky, I glanced in my rear-view mirror just in time to see the Taliban vehicle skid into a truck full of manure. And then explode." Williams illustrated by tossing his papers into the air. "As we careened, almost weightlessly through the nothingness, I saw the last escaping 747 flying away. That’s when I hit the gas and aimed right at the giant plane. Just as the moped finally began to fall down toward the earth, I grabbed my family in one arm and leaped toward the port side wing, grasping it with my free hand just in time to swing around and throw each family member through a separate passenger window. From there, I held onto the outer hull for five days, as we made the arduous journey back home." Williams was still grabbing the top of his desk with his full body as the program came to a close. UPDATE: Williams has clarified that he was actually on a different moped from the one that shot into the sky toward the 747. UPDATE 2: Williams has further clarified that he was actually sleeping peacefully in his New York City condo when these events occurred. |

Boris Johnson Defies Vladimir Putin's Claim to Crimea |
2021-06-29 |
Pat Buchanan at TownHall About that clash between a British destroyer and Russian warplanes and warships in the Black Sea last week: there are conflicting versions. ...London's version: Defender sailed through waters off Crimea that belong to Ukraine. Russian gunfire was far off and unthreatening. No dropped bombs impeded the destroyer's passage. Yet, according to The New York Times, BBC correspondent Jonathan Beale, who was on board Defender, has "published video footage showing as many as 20 Russian warplanes buzzing the ship and a Russian Coast Guard vessel drawing close alongside." Brian Williams concurs - he was there And in the studio in NYC In brief, this naval encounter was serious business. Defender's captain, Commander Vince Owen, made it clear his ship sailed close by Crimea deliberately "to assert the position that Crimea and the waters around it legally belong to Ukraine." ...This is not an unserious matter. If the Brits repeat this exercise, which they see as a right, a duty and a mission, we could witness a Russian attack on a British warship. This would trigger Article 5 of the NATO treaty that requires all member nations to treat an attack on one as an attack on all. Britain's challenge to Russia, a few kilometers off Crimea, could have resulted in a shooting incident that could have forced a U.S. response against Russia. And that raises some serious questions: Did Johnson inform us he was about to issue this direct challenge to Moscow? Or were the Americans left in the dark? Did President Joe Biden or the Pentagon tell Johnson that if Defender were attacked, U.S. forces would have their back? With this clash off Crimea, a peninsula Russia regards as vital and we have never regarded as vital, we could have been drawn into a conflict by our ally, Britain, which could not prevail against Vladimir Putin's Russia without the military assistance of the United States. China would love a war between USA and Russia |

"The reality is here that we have a large percentage of the American population — I don’t know how big it is, but we have tens of millions of Trump voters who continue to believe that their rights as citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others," Gay said in response to MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski calling for an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. "I think that as long as they see Americanness as the same as one with whiteness, this is going to continue," Gay said, turning to race and adding that "Americanness" and "whiteness" needed to be separated. How is Chris Cuomo still on the air at CNN? |
2021-03-03 |
[NYPOST] Is there a bigger joke in broadcast news than Chris Cuomo? Now, he says, he cannot cover his brother, Gov. Andrew SonnyCuomo ![]() The governor took time out of his busy schedule — consisting of daily ego baths dressed up as pressers and writing a book about leadership while allegedly sexually harassing at least one young employee and eugenically shunting old people with COVID into nursing homes and certain death — to answer hard-hitting questions and accusations such as these, posed by little brother Chris: "No matter how hard you’re working, there’s always time to call Mom. She wants to hear from you." "You know that what people are saying about how you look really can’t be accurate, so it must be hard for you to make sense of what is real and what is true now. I feel for you." "Now I’ve seen you referred to a little bit recently as the LuvGuv and I’m wondering if that’s bleeding into your demeanor at all and making you a little soft on the president?" "Do you think you are an attractive person now because you’re single and ready to mingle?" (Those last two haven’t aged well at all.) This unethical coverage, by the way, was cheered on by the mass media: The "Today" show, Oprahmag.com, NBC News, USA Today — to name a few — heartily endorsed it. "That is one thing the Cuomo brothers do: They love one other," New York Times ![]() ...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... media columnist Ben Smith wrote last April. "On March 30, the day a Navy hospital ship arrived in New York, they said, ’I love you,’ twice each, in quick succession." This reads more like a soggy diary entry written by a teenage girl. The same day Smith’s column ran, April 5, 2020, the Times reported that new state data showed 4,183 people had died in New York nursing homes from COVID. Not that Chris Cuomo asked his brother about that. Nor has CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... been on top of Gov. Cuomo’s latest scandal, the three credible allegations of sexual harassment against him. And so many on the left still wonder why the mainstream media is mistrusted — 33 percent of Americans having "none at all," according to a recent Gallup poll. "Obviously I love you as a brother," Chris told Andrew on his show last June. "Obviously I’ll never be objective." Imagine: A CNN anchor just admitted on-air what we all knew — he could not do his job, but would continue to do it anyway! Seriously, what does Chris Cuomo have on Jeff Zucker? Why does he still have this job? I realize this may be a hypothetical given Brian Williams, that other puffed-up fabulist, is back on MSNBC, but still — Chris Cuomo, reported annual salary $6 million, is a special case. Lest we forget his self-indulgent chronicles once he tested positive for COVID (according to his own self-report), then roaming around the Hamptons without a mask and calling a local who spotted him a "jackass loser fat-tire biker"; later faking his emergence from basement quarantine on CNN; spanked by management of his NYC building for repeatedly entering, exiting and riding the elevator without a mask, and — as Page Six reported last December — flexing his muscles and admiring himself in that same mirrored elevator. Ron Burgundy doesn’t come close to Chris Cuomo. |
