Pakistan Police Warn: TTP plans to assassinate Maulana Fazlur Rehman

The Express Tribune newspaper reported on Monday, February 17 that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police issued a security advisory to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, urging him to enhance his security measures and limit his movements.

According to the report, "Sources informed the police that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) intend to target Maulana Fazlur Rehman due to his involvement in religious and political activities."

Pak media, citing security sources, reported that the Taliban has assigned the task of assassinating this political and religious figure to "armed hitmen," who are planning to carry out the attack covertly.

In the police security advisory to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, it is stated that "In light of the recent terrorist incidents targeting politicians in the Bajaur tribal region, and the threats directed towards you, it is advised that you increase your security at your residence and limit your movements."

Ismail Ghori, the front man for Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam, also responded to this warning, stating that the party’s security guard is capable of protecting Maulana Fazlur Rehman and urging the police to ensure security instead of creating fear.

It is noteworthy that this religious leader was also targeted in an liquidation attempt last year, from which he narrowly escaped.

665 militant attacks reported in KP since June 2022: police

[Dawn] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have said 665 Death Eater attacks, including 15 suicide kabooms, were reported in the province between June 18, 2022, and June 18, 2023.

They also reported 382 gun attacks, 107 grenade blasts, 145 IED explosions, 15 rocket and missile hits, and two vehicle-borne IED attacks in the province during that period.

According to the list of ’Motive Wise Terrorism Incidents’ compiled by the provincial police, 140 Death Eater activities, including eight suicide kaboom

The document revealed that 55 Death Eater activities took place in Bajaur tribal district and they included 21 gun, four grenade and 30 IED attacks, while South Waziristan tribal district recorded 49 such attacks, including 33 gun, 13 IED and one rocket one.

It said snuffies carried out 48 attacks in Khyber and Lakki Marwat district each.

The list revealed that 30 gun and 11 IED attacks were reported in Khyber, while 19 and six grenade explosions occurred in Lakki Marwat and Khyber respectively.

According to it, Tank district recorded 39 acts of militancy and 29 of them were gun attacks, seven IED and two grenade attacks, and one suicide blast.

Bannu district reported 38 such Death Eater acts during the period and they included one suicide blast and 22 gun, three rocket, five grenade and seven IED attacks.

CTD arrests terrorist in Bajaur raid

Bajaur is one of seven semi-autonomous tribal districts along Pakistain's mountainous western border. They became a hotbed of Islamist hard boyz following the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. They have their own branch of the TTP — cleverly named TTP Bajaur — and play host to Al Qaeda as well. The Mighty Paks have been quietly ineffective against them for decades.

[Dawn] The Counter-Terrorism Department claimed on Tuesday to have arrested a terrorist while making a bomb in Bajaur tribal district.

CTD Malakand-II superintendent of police Amjad Ali Khan told a presser that the terrorist was held during a joint operation conducted by the CTD and the security forces.

He said the terrorist was tasked to prepare jacket wallahs for sabotage acts in the region. He said the CTD and security forces carried out an intelligence-based search and strike operation in Damadola Narai Kandao area of Bajaur on Monday night and arrested the bully boy identified as Ikramullah, while making a bomb.

The official said a hand grenade, prima cord, safety fuses and 550 grams of explosives were also recovered from his possession. He said two other accomplices of the terrorist, identified as Adnan and Mushtaq of Khar, Bajaur, took advantage of the darkness and fled from the scene.

The SP said preliminary interrogation suggested the bully boy had been tasked with preparing suicide bombers.

Two Pakistani Police Killed In Blast In Former Militant Stronghold

[RFERL] Two Pak coppers have been killed by a roadside kaboom in a former bad boy stronghold in the country’s northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province, authorities said on August 19.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack near Dama Dola area of Bajaur tribal district, which borders Afghanistan.

District police chief Abdus Samad Khan said the bomb was remotely detonated. He said a search was under way to find the perpetrators.

More than a decade ago, the military declared that the region was cleared of local and foreign faceless myrmidons following a series of military operations, but isolated bad boy attacks continued there.

The Pak Taliban hasn't grabbed credit for any attack since May, when talks started between the TTP and Pak government officials in Kabul. A cease-fire has also been in place since then.

The talks are hosted by the Afghan Taliban, whose takeover of power in Afghanistan has emboldened the Pak Taliban.

Four terrorists killed in Bajaur gun battle: ISPR

[Dawn] Four bad boyz were potted, while two security personnel and three passers-by embraced martyrdom when security forces repulsed an attack in the Bloro area of Bajaur tribal district, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

The statement said that security forces promptly responded to the attack. As a result, four bad boyz were potted.

The ISPR said that during the intense exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Ishtiaq, 44, a resident of Nowshera, and Sepoy Kamran, 21, a resident of Orakzai district, embraced martyrdom.

Three civilians, who were caught in the terrorists’ firing while passing by the area, also embraced martyrdom. They were identified as Asmat, Ilham and Bahadur. The security forces recovered some weapons from the possession of the dead terrorists.

The ISPR said the murderous Moslems remained actively involved in activities against security forces.

Policeman shot dead in Bajaur

[DAWN] Unidentified assailants rubbed out a policeman in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur tribal district, officials and residents said here on Thursday.

They said that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening in far-flung Laghari area, some 22km from Khar, the district headquarters.

The residents said that constable Farhad Khan, 35, was walking outside his house after Iftar when unidentified button men opened fire on him, injuring him critically.

According to the villagers, the policeman died while being taken to the district headquarters hospital, Khar, as he had received multiple bullets in head and other parts of his body. They said the dear departed had no personnel enmity with anyone in the region.

A senior police official told this correspondent that Farhad was the member of police’s Quick Respond Force. He said a search operation has been launched after the incident to trace the people involved in the incident.

They vowed to continue the boycott till acceptance of their demands. The Levies and Khasadar personnel in the merged districts anonymously announced to boycott security duty during the anti-polio drive. The decision was made in a meeting of core committee of both the forces in all merged district. The Khasadar and Levies personnel have presented 22-point charter of demands to government.

The boycott forced the health department to postpone the scheduled three-day campaign against polio in several areas of Bajaur tribal district.

Sources said that bigwigs of local administration and health department earlier did not take the decision regarding boycott by personnel of both the forces seriously and termed pressure tactics for acceptance of their demands.

First polio case of 2019 detected in Bajaur

case emerged in Bajaur tribal district on Saturday, bringing the total number of such cases to six in the region over the last three months.

Head of the health department Dr Wazir Khan while talking to news hounds confirmed the latest detection of the polio case in the region.

He said that the case, which according to him is the first case in 2019, had been reported in Inayat Kalli area of Khar tehsil where an 11-month-old child named Javid Khan was diagnosed with the virus.

To check the presence of polio various, the official said that a team of health officials had visited the said area twice and had collected stool samples from the child.

Dr Khan said the first sample from the child was collected on Jan 21 while the second was taken on Jan 22.

He said that stool samples were then sent to the National Institute of Health Islamabad which confirmed it to be a polio case on Feb 1.

To a question, the official said that the affected child had been given seven doses of anti-polio drops, recalling that he had also been administered drops in the recent vaccination drive which ended last week.

Rocket hits ANP leader’s home in Bajaur

(ANP) came under attack in the Nawagai area of Bajaur in the early hours of Tuesday, residents and officials said.

They said a rocket was fired on the house of Sheikh Jan Zada near the Nawagai bazaar, some 32km west of Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur tribal district.

The incident took place when the ANP leader was present in his home.

They said the rocket fired from an unknown location hit a boundary wall of the house which was partially damaged.

Terrorist bid foiled in Bajaur; two killed

[DAWN] Security forces on Saturday claimed to have foiled a terrorism bid in Bajaur tribal district by killing two terrorists, including one would-be jacket wallah, during an intelligence-based operation in Mamond tehsil.

The sources stated that the operation was conducted following the information that the gunnies were attempting to carry out terrorism activities in the region. Soon after receiving the information, a contingent of security forces was dispatched to the area which killed the gunnies before they carried out their activities.

They claimed that the dear departed deputy operational commander of the TTP Bajaur, who was wearing a suicide jacket, was among the most wanted holy warriors in the district. He said the krazed killer commander had been involved in many terrorist activities in the region, including kabooms.

The sources pointed out that the dead krazed killer commander was also involved in collection of extortion from locals on behalf of the TTP Bajaur.

A number of materials, including three 9 mm pistols, 30 rounds of 9 mm pistol, one torch and one mobile set, were recovered from the bodies of terrorists.

The sources didn’t name the killed terrorists, but claimed that they were on terrorism mission, saying they could have caused huge destruction in the area if the action was not taken immediately.

Two militants die in Bajaur IED explosion

KHAR: Two suspected militants were killed on Monday when a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) they were planting on Dherakai-Pashat road in Salarazai tehsil of the Bajaur tribal region went off.

Officials of the Bajaur administration said two bodies mutilated beyond recognition were found at the scene of the incident.

They claimed that the deceased were involved in several cases of planting the IEDs on Dherakai-Pashat road to target security forces and pro-government tribal elders associated with peace committees.

The bomb, they said, went off, killing the suspects on the spot.

The political administration and security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. However, there was no report of any arrest.
