Operation Nimrod
2024-08-08
Here is the history piece. All the rest is gun pr0n, which many of you will appreciate properly, so go read about it at the link, dear Reader.
[AmericanHandgunner] May 5, 1980 was a Monday. Six days prior, half a dozen terrorists representing the Democratic Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of Arabistan
… founded in 1979 as a splinter group of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Ahvaz (PFLA, part of the movement for Arab liberation of the Ahwaz/Ahvaz region of Iran. This lot were apparently Baathists, others among them are Arab Sunni-firsters, probably some are communist of one flavour or another…
had stormed the Iranian embassy at Prince’s Gate in South Kensington, London. Curiously, these six armed men were actually protesting the theocratic regime that had recently seized power in Iran. They were, geopolitically speaking, technically the Good Guys. However, after days of aggressive negotiations that saw the release of five of 26 hostages, tempers grew short. In a fit of anger, the terrorists shot and killed the Iranian cultural attaché, Abbas Lavasani. At that point, the Iron Lady, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, turned operational control of the situation over to the British 22nd Special Air Service.

They called the subsequent symphony of violence Operation Nimrod and it changed everything about modern counterterrorist operations. Where normally, the SAS operates in the shadows, this time, they took down the Iranian embassy in broad daylight before the accumulated television cameras of the world’s press. The building was five stories tall and contained 51 different rooms. Seventeen minutes after the go order, five of the six terrorists were dead, the sixth was in custody, and the entire building was secure. One hostage died during the assault and one SAS man was fairly badly burned. However, the cumulative result was legitimately paradigm-shifting.

In short order, every cop in the world wanted an HK MP-5 submachine gun in the trunk of his squad car and a set of black fatigues hanging in his closet. The otherworldly imagery of the assault burned into the world’s consciousness. The SAS had become the world’s premiere direct-action counterterrorist force.

Iran executes Kurdish, Arab political prisoners
2023-02-24
[Rudaw] Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
executed two other political prisoners this week and sentenced a dual national to death as Western countries ratchet up the economic pressure on the country in response to the regime’s violent mostly peaceful crackdown on protesters.

Iran’s state media on Wednesday night said that Sarkawt (Arash) Ahmadi, a former member of Komala, leftist Kurdish armed opposition party, was executed on Wednesday morning in the Kurdish city of Kermanshah.

Ahmadi was detained in December 2020 after leaving Komala, based in the neighboring Kurdistan Region, intending to travel to Europa

, a regular route taken by thousands of migrants colonists every year. He was detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the border area and was subjected to months of isolation in solitary confinement and severe torture by the forces’ interrogators. He was accused of assassinating a traffic police officer.

Iran uses execution in times of crises to intimidate the population and instill fear in the society. The authorities executed four protesters for their participation in the recent wave of protests that were sparked by the killing of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini by the morality police in Tehran in mid-September. Iran has executed 87 people in 2023 alone according to Oslo-based Iran Human Rights.

The security forces, spearheaded by the IRGC and its militia Basij, killed at least 530 protesters and maimed thousands of others. Many protesters in detention have been subjected to brutal torture to make video confessions admitting guilt.

The execution of the Kurdish political prisoner on Wednesday took place in the same week as reports by human rights

organizations stating that another political prisoner from the Arab ethnic minority in southwest Iran was executed. Hossein Abiat was from Ahwaz and had been imprisoned for 11 years due to his membership of opposition groups. The authorities in Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz executed him on Monday.

Iran has come under growing pressure by the international community for its brutality against the protesters and for providing cheap drones to Russia in its aggression against Ukraine.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
imposed new sanctions on Monday on 32 individuals and two entities in Iran for being involved in human rights violations in the country.

Iran said on Tuesday that it sentenced a German citizen to death with Germany retaliating by expelling two employees of the Iranian embassy in Berlin.

Jamshid Sharmahd is a journalist of Iranian descent who was kidnapped from Dubai in July 2020 by agents of the ministry of intelligence and was taken to Iran after being accused of being involved in a 2008 bombing in Shiraz which killed 14 people.

is against the Iranian constitution, Sharia law, and conscience.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network, which covers the human rights violations in the Kurdish areas in western Iran, said that Ahmadi’s families were not informed prior to his execution for the last meeting as per Iranian law.

Blacklisted Iranian airline targeted in cyberattack
2021-11-22
[IsraelTimes] Mahan Air claims it thwarted hack as its website displays error message; group claiming responsibility releases what it says are company documents detailing Quds Force ties

A blacklisted Iranian airline with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Sunday that it was recently targeted in a cyberattack.

Mahan Air claimed to have thwarted the attack, which it said happens routinely.

"It has already been the target on several occasions due to its important position in the country’s aviation industry," Mahan Air said in a statement.

The airline said all flights were operating on schedule but that it would update passengers on any future changes.

Mahan Air’s website displayed an error message saying the site couldn’t be reached.

received strange text messages on Sunday. A group calling itself Hoosyarane-Vatan, or Observants of Fatherland, claimed in the mass texts to have carried out the attack.

The group released what it said were internal company documents showing Mahan Air’s links to the Quds Force, the IRGC’s overseas branch.

"We believe the public deserves to know the truth behind this cooperation and the money wasted on IRGC activities abroad while Iranian people suffer at home," Hooshyarane-Vatan said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.

It also asserted that even after Mahan detected the hackers on the airline’s computer network, "they never managed to drive us out of there, and our access to their network was never damaged."

On Hooshyarane-Vatan’s Twitter account the group repeatedly invoked Ahvaz, a majority-Arab region in southwestern Iran that has seen separatist violence.

"Until there is justice for the Ahwaz we will continue to expose the corruption of the regime," it said.

Mahan Air has been under US sanctions since 2011 for allegedly providing support to the Quds Force. The airline has been linked to alleged shipments of arms from Iran to Shiite groups in Syria, including the Hezbollah terror group. Alleged Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in Syria have been thought to target Mahan Air weapons shipments in the past.

The airline’s announcement came amid a years-long cyberwar between Israel and Iran that has occasionally bubbled to the surface.

Last month, Iran accused Israel of being behind a cyberattack on the country’s gas stations, knocking them out of service for a week. Without naming a specific country, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi blamed the hack on anti-Iranian forces seeking to sow disorder and disruption.

Days later, an Iranian-linked hacking group, Black Shadow, targeted an Israeli hosting company, temporarily shutting down a number of websites and stealing user data from "Atraf," an Israeli LGBT dating site.

Black Shadow also stole a vast trove of information from Israeli insurance company Shirbit last year and then sold it on the dark web when the firm refused to pay a ransom.

Dutch court convicts Iranian refugee on terror charges
2021-10-28
[IsraelTimes] A court in the Netherlands convicts an Iranian refugee of preparing and financing terror attacks in his homeland targeting the Iranian government and its supporters. The 42-year-old man is sentenced to four years imprisonment.

The man, whose identity is not released in line with Dutch privacy rules, is linked to the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz
...in our archives as Ahvaz. They’re Sunni Arabs who’re tired of being ruled by Shiite Persians, so they’ve been getting feisty...
, a separatist group in the oil-rich Ahwaz region of southern Iran.

The man is from Ahwaz, but he was tried in Rotterdam District Court because he has lived in the Netherlands since being granted residency as a refugee.

The court says in a statement that the defendant was in contact with separatists who planned and carried out attacks in Iran, including torching banks, but also targeting people linked to the Iranian government. He discussed possible targets, offered financial support and urged separatists to make video recordings of attacks, the written judgment says.

Through his actions, "the suspect played an important role in a criminal and terrorist organization whose goal was to support attacks in Iran," the court says.

Prosecutors sought a six-year prison sentence, but judges say they gave a lower sentence because of the man’s personal history, which he said included being imprisoned and tortured in Iran.

threatens to spread across the country, two weeks before the inauguration of President-elect Ibrahim Raisi.

Calls spread for protests to be held in Iranian cities in solidarity with the movement in Ahvaz. Videos showed Iranians chanting "Death to Wilayat al-Faqih" and "Death to the Islamic Theocratic Republic" at Sadiqiyah, the second largest station in the west of Tehran.

In the northwestern provinces of the country, which are predominantly Azeri, posters in the Ottoman Turkish language were spread expressing solidarity with the Arab cities in the south.

This came following the fifth night of protests in the city of Ahvaz, during which demonstrators tried to reach the central areas of the province, chanting slogans condemning the policies of the Iranian regime.

Authorities cut the internet from mobile phone service in several areas, according to local reports.

In the west of Ahwaz, the city of Khafajia witnessed a tumultuous night on Monday, when thousands of people marched towards the city center, before organizing a sit-in in front of the governor’s headquarters, demanding that he submit his resignation.

The anti-riots forces, which had deployed in the city on Sunday night and fired at the protesters, withdrew on Monday after sharp criticism over the authorities’ resorting to the use of excessive violence

Activists in Ahvaz said that the authorities continued to arrest protesters in various areas, but no figures were published on the exact number of detainees.

Meanwhile,

maintained silence over the suppression of the protests, while conservative figures pointed to the "mismanagement" that led to deteriorating conditions in the oil-rich province.

The former reformist President Mohammad Khatami expressed his regret over the killing and wounding of the demonstrators. He said: "People are truly upset, protesting against what is happening. Peaceful protest is a right for the people and citizens."

For his part, former Iranian President Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad criticized the suppression of the demonstrations, declaring his solidarity with the protesters’ demands.

Protesters erupted into the streets for a second consecutive night in Iran’s oil-rich southwest to protest water shortages, videos shared on social media showed, with reports of security forces shooting dead at least one protester.Security forces rubbed out Iranian Arab citizen Mostafa Naeemawi in the city of Shadegan (al-Falahiya) in Khuzestan province during Friday night’s unrest, Al Arabiya Farsi reported, citing local sources.

The protests began late on Thursday in several cities in Khuzestan province, including its capital, Ahwaz, according to videos shared online. The region is home to a large ethnic Arab population.

For the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.

Several videos shared on social media showed a large crowd chanting in Arabic late on Friday in the city of Susangerd (al-Khafajiya). "The thieves robbed us in the name of religion," protesters in Susangerd could be heard chanting in Arabic in one video, in reference to Iran’s Shia theocracy.

The government sent a delegation on Friday to Ahwaz to tackle the water shortages that have sparked the protests, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Iran’s Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian warned in May of water shortages in the summer, saying this year was "one of the driest in 50 years."

The water shortages have also led to power outages which sparked protests in several cities earlier this month. Some of the protests turned political with chants against Iran’s highest authority, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
The protests in Khuzestan come as thousands of workers in Iran’s key energy sector have launched strikes for better wages and working conditions.

Iran’s economy has been hit hard since 2018 when former US President Donald Trump

withdrew Washington from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers and reimposed sweeping sanctions on the country. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the country’s economic problems.

Turkey confirms Iran's kidnapping of former ASMLA leader Habib Chaab on its soil
2020-12-14

The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. had kidnapped the Ahwazi leader, Habib Chaab, known as Habib Asyud, in Istanbul, after he was kidnapped and drugged, and then transported by truck to Iran by a smuggling ring
ASMLA: The Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz is an Arab nationalist group that advocates secession of Khuzestan Province from Iran to establish an Arab state.
The Ottoman Turkish official revealed to the newspaper that Iranian intelligence kidnapped Chaab after entering Istanbul on October 9, to meet with a woman named Saberin, who works for the Iranian intelligence.

Ottoman Turkish investigations found that Saberin S. I arrived a day before Chaab from Iran with a forged Iranian passport.

According to the information, before Chaab’s arrival, several kidnapping team members bought plastic wires from a computer store in Istanbul. When Chaab landed that evening, he met Saberin at a gas station in Beylikduzu, Istanbul, which was waiting for him in a truck.

According to the Ottoman Turkish intelligence official, upon his arrival at the scene, he was drugged and his hands and feet tied.

The report stated that the Ahwazi leader was transferred to Van province in eastern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
and was handed over to a human smuggler, smuggled across the border the next day. Saberin also returned to Iran.

The security official said that Ottoman Turkish intelligence and coppers arrested 11 men, all Ottoman Turkish citizens, for their involvement in similar cases and brought them to trial on charges that include "the use of weapons, kidnapping, and deception."

The "Washington Post" reported that this kidnapping is similar to another operation carried out by Iran recently against the journalist, Ruhollah Zam, residing in La Belle France but disappeared after being lured to Iraq last year, which Tehran carried out his death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
on Saturday.

It also referred to the liquidation of another Iranian journalist in Istanbul in 2017, Masoud Molavi Vardanjani, in an operation that Ottoman Turkish officials said was carried out under the supervision of intelligence officers working in the Iranian consulate there, according to Rooters.
