Lashkar demolishes houses of ‘militants’ in Wana |
2016-04-01 |
[DAWN] Seven houses of alleged holy warriors and their controllers were razed to the ground by a lashkar (a group of peace volunteers from Ahmedzai Wazir tribe) in different areas of Wana in South ![]() The houses of Ghulam Jan and his relatives were demolished in Shalam Dana and those of Toor Hafiz and Wari Khan in Shin Warsak. The houses of Gul Mir in Tiarza and Sattar Khan and his cousin in Samar Bagh were also razed to the ground. The "accused terrorists" belonged to the Hakimullah and Maulvi Nazir groups of the banned Tehrik-Taliban Pakistain (TTP). According to sources, the decision to demolish the houses was taken by a 120-member jirga (an elders’ council) after "proofs" of the suspects’ involvement in terrorist activities were obtained through an investigation. The jirga found that the "holy warriors and their controllers" were part of the TTP and had violated a peace accord with the government. It investigated the matter on a complaint lodged by the political administration of South Waziristan. Wana bazaar remained closed during the demolition process in which over 400 volunteers participated, sources said. The houses were razed to the ground with the help of bulldozers and the debris was set on fire. |

Taliban 'commander' among four killed in blast |
2012-12-22 |
[Dawn] Four jihad boys, a key Taliban 'commander' among them, were killed and six others injured in a blast in Rustam bazaar of South ![]() Maulvi Abbas, the Taliban capo, his son and two guards were killed when an IED (improvised bomb) said to have been planted in his office by his rivals, went off. Six people were maimed and were taken to agency headquarters' hospital in Wana and a private clinic. Dr Akbar Khan told Dawn at the hospital that one of the injured had been referred DHQ hospital in Dera Ismail Khan ... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ... at death's door. Maulvi Abbas was one of four Taliban capos who supported Uzbek and other foreign Orcs and similar vermin when Maulvi Nazir group and local Ahmedzai Wazir tribe launched an operation in 2007 and asked foreign Orcs and similar vermin to leave South Waziristan, blaming them for creating law and order problems in the region. The other three commanders Maulvi Noorul Islam, Javed Wazir and Omar Wazir, took refuge in areas controlled by Hakeemullah Mehsud and Waliur Rehman in North Waziristan after operation Rahe Nijat was launched by security forces. Omar Wazir was later killed in a drone attack in Machikhel area of North Waziristan. However, there's more than one way to skin a cat... Abbas, Noorul Islam and Javed Wazir moved back to Wana after striking a secret deal with Maulvi Nazir group and Ahmedzai elders about a year ago. |

Mehsuds say can't spend life as IDPs anymore |
2012-12-14 |
[Dawn] Enough is enough. Mehsuds can no more spend life as IDPs out of their own territory. The security forces should clear the tribal areas forthwith as they can't live in camps any longer. This was announced by a jirga of Mehsud elders here at the political compound of South ![]() The political agent and other government functionaries were also in attendance. Elders Malik Mehsud Ahmad, Malik Sayedur Rehman, Malik Syed Anwar, Malik Rapa Khan, Malik Haji Mohammad, Malik Mohammad Rafiq, Malik Azizullah, Malik Attaullah, Malik Ayaz and others addressed the jirga. They said Mehsuds had vacated their houses on the directives of the security forces and political administration for great national interest. An elder said: "Enough is enough. After passage of three long years, Mehsuds are forced to live as IDPs. The government and security forces have failed to clear our region." He further said: "We have exhausted, now. We want to return to our homes. The life in camps and tented houses is very difficult. We want free movement and independent life in our own territory." The other elders said the government had stated in the past that their areas would be cleared soon but after passage of three years, the situation was still unclear. They said Mehsuds won't live as IDPs anymore. Mehsuds had migrated from Sara Rogha, Makeen, Ladha, Tiarza and Sarokai tehsils. Until now, 20 to 25 per cent of Sara Rogha and Sarokai displaced residents have returned to their homes. The rest of the areas have yet to be cleared from gun-hung tough guys despite a lapse of three years. The Mehsud elders said kabooms, drone attacks and other activities of terrorism had been carried out in all parts of tribal agencies but only Mehsud rustics had been stopped from entering their own area. They also demanded distribution of Annual Development Programme funds and development schemes on the basis of centuries-old nikat system. The elders said according to nikat system, Mehsuds had authority on three-fourth of the national resources and funds, while Ahmedzai Waziris enjoyed only one-fourth of the resources and funds. They also regretted that Mehsud IDPs were expelled from Wana but neither the political administration nor other institutions came forward for their help. The elders demanded that Mehsud students in Government Degree College, Ladha be provided with education facilities in Tank. They also appealed to unidentified kidnappers to free stenographer to political agent Allah Bagh. PA Shahidullah Khan also addressed the jirga and said all possible efforts would be made to provide facilities to Mehsuds. He said he was in contact with the higher authorities to resolve their problems. |

Act Of War: Background On The Attempted Murder Of Maulvi Nazir |
2012-12-09 |
Bomb attack on Maulvi Nazir may not set off an all-out battle between his men and the TTP, but will spur tribal rivalries in South ![]() Key Taliban capo Maulvi Nazir survived a deadly suicide kaboom on November 29, when he and his associates were visiting Rustam Bazaar in Wana, the administrative headquarters of South Waziristan. At least seven gunnies were killed and a dozen others were maimed in the attack. Nazir suffered minor injuries on his face and legs, his front man Amir Nawaz told local news hounds. No group has grabbed credit for the attack so far, and security analysts say Nazir has a long list of enemies. Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) are the main suspects. Maulvi Nazir has also been targeted by US drones on several occasions, but survived each time. The most recent such attack was in June 2012. Nazir belongs to the Kakakhel tribe, which is a sub-clan of the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe. His family lives on both sides of the Durand Line. During the Soviet Afghan war, he was affiliated with ![]() ... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the Worldbut who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil... 's Hizb-e-Islami and later joined the Taliban. He became the head of the Wana Taliban in late 2006 after challenging local commanders Haji Sharif and Haji Omar. Nazir's group is allied with bad turban commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur who US officials believe is sheltering the Haqqani network in the neighboring North Waziristan Agency. Bahadur was made the deputy chief of TTP when it was formed under the leadership of Baitullah Mehsud in 2007. TTP is an umbrella organization of various bad turban groups operating in FATA. After disagreements over attacks on Pak security forces and because of tribal rivalries, he joined hands with Maulvi Nazir and formed his own anti-TTP bloc. The two leaders fall in the military establishment's 'good Taliban' category because they do not carry out attacks inside Pakistain. There are two main tribes in South Waziristan - the Ahmedzai Wazirs and the Mehsuds. The Ahmedzai Wazirs live in Wana subdivision, while the Sarawakai and Ladha subdivisions are dominated by the Mehsuds. With the help of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribes, gunnies led by Nazir threw out Uzbek gunnies of the IMU from Wana and other Wazir-dominated areas of South Waziristan in a spring 2007 uprising against Uzbek brutality. The Uzbek gunnies had arrived in the area after their bases in Afghanistan were closed down in late 2001. Many of them relocated to North Waziristan and Mehsud-dominated areas of South Waziristan after their eviction from Wana. The IMU lost around 250 gunnies in the festivities with Nazir's group. Pak security forces helped Nazir's men secure the bases vacated by the Uzbeks. "It seems that the attack (on Nazir) was criminal masterminded by the IMU-linked Uzbek bad turbans," a local tribal leader said. He said the frustrated Uzbeks had also killed Maulana Noor Muhammad, a prominent elder of the Ahmedzai tribe and former parliamentarian, along with 30 other people in a suicide attack in a mosque in Wana in August 2010. Two days after the November 29 attack, loudspeakers in Karikot, Shakai, Azam Warsak, Spin and Toi Khulla towns of Wana announced Nazir's ultimatum to the Mehsud rustics to vacate the areas by December 5. Locals found guilty of sheltering the Mehsuds would be fined up to Rs 1.5 million and their houses will be demolished, said the warning. The announcement indicates Maulvi Nazir holds the TTP responsible for the attack, security analysts say. "The TTP is largely dominated by Mehsud rustics from South Waziristan, and Nazir made no distinction between the internally displaced Mehsud rustics and the bad turbans," said a local journalist based in Wana. A large number of Mehsud families have moved to other areas after the warning, he said. Hours after the attack, gunnies loyal to Nazir bumped off two TTP gunnies in Wana, local sources said. The Mehsud population had to leave their homes when a military operation codenamed Rah-e-Nijat (Path to Salvation) started in October 2009. The operation has not ended yet. The Mehsuds were sheltered in IDP camps or began living in rented houses in Wana, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan ... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ... and Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... Nazir has been at loggerheads with the TTP leadership over a September 2009 incident in which he alleges 11 of his men were killed by TTP gunnies in Mehsud territory in Salay Rogha, South Waziristan. They were on their way to Wana. Mehsud Taliban fighters have also been warned by the Nazir group not to use their soil for attacks against security forces. Pir Zubair Shah, a former New York Times ...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... news hound from South Waziristan, believes the attack on Nazir was likely planned by local Wazir commanders Haji Omar and Maulvi Abbas, who had sided with the Uzbek gunnies and were thus evicted from Wana in 2007. "Although some of these Waziri gunnies had made peace deals with Nazir and were allowed to come back, it seems the tension still exists," he said. Security analysts and tribal elders think the Ahmedzai jirga's decision to ask the Mehsuds to leave Wana could trigger a bloody clash between the Mehsud and Wazir tribes. "I don't think this attack will result in an all-out war between the Nazir-led group and the TTP. The clash between the two will be actually a clash between the Mehsud and Wazir tribes," Shah said. He said the eviction notice was an effort by the government to sideline the TTP which draws its strength from the Mehsuds. Similar efforts are also being made in North Waziristan where the local Utmanzai tribal elders and Bahadur-led gunnies decided in a November 22 jirga to form a militia (lashkar) against "criminals and terrorists". "Kidnappers, beturbanned goons and those involved in attacks on security forces should leave the North Waziristan Agency immediately," the jirga announced. Creating divisions between Al Qaeda, the Afghan Taliban and the TTP has long been part of the American strategy in the region, and Pakistain's goal has been to weaken the TTP, said Arif Ansar, a security analyst associated with PoliTact, a Washington-based think tank. "Far from media attention, one can sense that the US and Pakistain have agreed on some kind of a quid pro quo in this regard," he said. |

Mullah Nazir orders out Mehsud Taliban fighters |
2012-12-02 |
[Dawn] Mullah Nazir, the main pro-government Taliban capo in South ![]() The announcement was made following a grand jirga of the Mullah Nazir group, a 120-member 2007 peace committee of the Ahmedzai Wazir clan, the elders of all nine Ahmedzai tribes and their sub-tribes at main Rustam Bazaar market of Wana, the capital of South Waziristan. Nazir was maimed Thursday when a jacket wallah went kaboom!near his car at Rustam Bazaar, killing at least eight and injuring 17 others. It was unclear who was behind the attempt on the cut-thoat commander's life, but Nazir has a long list of enemies. Announcements were made Saturday on loudspeakers in Azam Warsak, Karikort, Wana and Toikhula bazaar by Nazir loyalists, warning Mehsud Taliban fighters to leave their area by Dec 5 or face action. The group also asked all Mehsud rustics, who had taken refuge in the area being displaced as a result of an earlier Pakistain Army operation to cleanse the area of anti-government cut-thoats. Nazir, an elder in the Wazir tribe, opposes Uzbek fighters and has had awkward relations with the umbrella Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) faction, which is dominated by members of the rival Mehsud tribe and lead by Hakeemullah Mehsud. Tribal affairs and militancy expert Rahimullah Yousufzai warned earlier that Thursday's suicide attack could spark a new wave of bloodshed in the restive tribal belt. "It is difficult to say who could be behind the latest attack because Mullah Nazir has problems with Uzbeks, IMU and the TTP," Yousufzai told news agency AFP. "The enmity with the TTP will rise further if Nazir's group finds TTP's involvement in the attack." Saturday's announcements issued on mosque loudspeakers also warned local Ahmedzai Wazir rustics of dire consequences if they dared to provide shelter to Mehsuds -- either fighters or the IDPs. Any local found guilty of giving shelter to Mehsuds would be fined about Rs 1 to Rs 1.5 million and their houses will also be demolished, said the warning. Mullah Nazir also heads the 120-member 2007 peace committee of Ahmedzai Wazir tribes, which was assigned the task to evict Uzbek, Tajiks and other imported muscle including the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) faceless myrmidons from the area. He had carried out an armed campaign against Uzbek and other cut-thoat groups in collaboration with the security forces in 2007 to expel anti-government elements from South Waziristan areas dominated by the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe. Since then the Ahmedzai Wazir area, apparently under the peace committee headed by Nazir, is said to have remained peaceful until Thursday's suicide attack in Wana. Mehsud Taliban fighters hailing from the outlawed TTP have also previously been warned by the Mulllah Nazir group not to use their soil for attacks, with tensions mounting over time between the two rival groups. Although no one has grabbed credit for the attack on Nazir so far, many believe the TTP might be behind it. A senior government official on condition of anonymity told Dawn.Com that Mullah Nazir is important for the peace in the Ahmedzai area, otherwise, the security situation would deteriorate. Nazir and North Waziristan commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur, since the 2007 peace pact with Islamabad, are said to confine their cut-thoat activities to Afghanistan where they oppose the presence of US and NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions... troops. Saifullah Mahsud, executive director of the Fata Research Centre, a think-tank focused on the tribal belt, said Mullah Nazir and Gul Bahadur are very close to the Haqqani cut-thoat network of Afghanistan. |

10 militants killed in Tirah aerialĀ strikes |
2012-05-11 |
[Dawn] At least 10 snuffies were killed and eight other injured when jet planes targeted their hideouts in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency![]() Officials said that planes carried out several sorties targeting the hideouts of Taliban of Tariq Afridi group in Meer Khwla, Dwa Thoe and Thora Vella areas near the Afghan border. They said that at least 10 snuffies were killed and eight more received injuries while two of their hideouts were completely destroyed in the aerial strikes. Taliban affiliated with Tariq Afridi group had established bases in the area since long but they are facing stiff resistance from both Kukikhel ...a tribe of primitives inhabiting Khyber Agency. They are a branch of the Afridi tribe. Traditionally they have been migratory, tromping between Jamrud and the Rajgal valley with the seasons. They make welcome most anyone with a turban and automatic weapons, but every once in awhile they get together a tribal lashkar to mollify the government... tribe and banned myrmidon group Lashkar-e-Islam. Meanwhile, ...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising... hundreds of families continued to migrate from Shalobar area in Bara on Wednesday, availing the 24-hour extension in the deadline granted to them by the local administration. Officials said that a total of 1,600 families had left their houses in Shalobar area and shifted to safer places. Local welfare groups established relief camps at Qambarabad and Batta Thal localities to assist the migrating families. Sources in Bara said that most of the displaced families preferred to move to Sipah and Malakdikhel areas as they were unable to hire transport or rent a house in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar. Tehrik Mutasereen Bara, Khyber Union, Khidmat-e-Khalq Committee and elders of Shalobar tribe have demanded of the political administration to provide them sufficient time to move to safer places. Taliban factions regroup to fight US forces | |
2012-01-04 | |
[Dawn] All jihadi groups, in consultation with Islamic Emirate Afghanistan (shadow Taliban government in Afghanistan), have decided to set up a committee to set aside differences in their ranks and step up support for war against western forces in Afghanistan. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Taliban Shura held at an unspecified place on Monday. A statement issued in the form of a pamphlet to the media in ![]() The committee comprises Maulvi Azmatullah, Maulvi Noor Saeed, Maulvi Saeedullah, Maulvi Sadar Hayat and Hafeez Amir Hamza. According to sources, Azmatullah (Taliban capo in Barwan) represents the Waliur Rehman group, Noor Saeed (Taliban capo in Barwan) the Hakeemullah Mehsud group, Saeedullah (from Afghanistan) the Haqqani group, Sadar Hayat (from North Waziristan) the Maulvi Gul Bahadar group and Amir Hamza (from Ahmedzai Wazir tribe) the Mulla Nazir group in Wana subdivision of South Waziristan. Spokesman for the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistain Ihsanullah Ihsan confirmed that the meeting had been held and the statement dated Dec 31 was issued after approval by Taliban's supreme leader Mullah Omar ... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality... The sources said the committee had been formed to resolve differences among various cut-thoat factions, regroup them and investigate killings on spying charges and excesses, if any, committed by the Taliban against local people. "All Mujahideen, local and foreigners, are informed that they should desist from killing and kidnapping for ransom innocent people and cooperate with this committee in curbing crimes. If any Mujahid is found involved in unjustified killings, crimes and other illegal activities he will be answerable to Shura-i-Murakbah and will be punished in accordance with the Shariah law," the statement says. The sources said the high command of Pak and Afghan Taliban had been trying for two months to reach an agreement on uniting different factions. The first meeting in this regard was held on Nov 27 in Azam Warsak near Wana. It was attended by Waliur Rehman Mehsud, Hakeemullah Mehsud, Mulla Nazir, Abu Yehya Al Libi and Abdur Rehman Al Saudi of Al Qaeda and Sirajuddin Haqqani of the Haqqani network. The second meeting was held on Dec 11 in Dattakhel area ... which is owned and operated by Hafiz Gul Behadur... of North Waziristan. It was attended by Sabiullah Mujahid, Maulvi Sangeen and Maulvi Ashfaq from Afghanistan, Yehya Al Libi and Abdur Rehman Al Saudi of Al Qaeda, Hafiz Gul Bahadar and Maulvi Sadiq Noor from North Waziristan and Hakeemullah Mehsud, Waliur Rehman and Mulla Nazir from South Waziristan. Talking to Dawn on phone from an unspecified place, TTP front man Ihsanullah said the Mujahideen groups had reposed their confidence in the leadership of Mullah Muhammad Omar and recognised him as the leader of Afghanistan. He said the TTP would send its fighters to Afghanistan after March for waging jihad against "US-led infidel forces". The front man denied a media report that the Taliban would not attack Pak security forces. "It was a misleading and incorrect report." He said the meeting had decided that bully boyz would target the Americans and their allies in Pakistain as well as Afghanistan. Ihsanullah said the Taliban would also take Dire RevengeĀ of what he called humiliation by security forces of tribal women, men and Mujahideen in the ongoing operation in Khyber agency. It may be recalled that a rift occurred among Taliban groups when Mulla Nazir expelled Uzbek and Masud bully boyz from Wana subdivision after striking a deal with the government during the operation Rahe Nijat. However, those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things... Gul Bahadar and Maulvi Sadiq did not oppose the shifting of Mujahideen from South to North Waziristan. AP adds: "For God's sake, forget all your differences and give us fighters to boost the battle against America in Afghanistan," senior Al Qaeda commander Abu Yehya Al Libi told Pak fighters at the meeting, according to a cut-thoat who attended it.

Tribal elder among four killed |
2011-11-07 |
[Dawn] A pro-government tribal elder and the wife of another elder were among four people killed in attacks by forces of Evil in South ![]() Four people were maimed. Two forces of Evil are reported to have been killed. Political sources said Malak Amanullah, one of the leaders of a tribal lashkar, and two other people were bumped off when suspected forces of Evil opened fire in Azam Warsak bazaar, about 20km west of Wana. Malak Amanullah was struck down in his prime. Three people were maimed in the attack and taken to a hospital in Wana where two of them died. It was not clear whether the other victims were passersby or associates of the Malak who had played an important role in forcing Uzbeks and their local Ahmedzai Wazir supporters to leave Waziristan. No group grabbed credit for the attack. One of the attackers was reportedly killed in firing by men accompanying the Malak. According to our correspondent in Khar, the wife of pro-government tribal elder Malak Mohammad Omar was killed and he himself, his father and a son were maimed when about 25 forces of Evil stormed his house in Bara Kaman Gara area of Nawagai tehsil on Saturday night. The forces of Evil lobbed hand-grenades on the house and used heavy weapons. Militant leader among 3 dead in drone attack |
2011-10-02 |
[Dawn] A top-ranking jihad boy 'commander' and a close aide to Maulvi Nazir was among three Islamic fascisti killed in a dronezap![]() The pilotless aircraft fired eight missiles targeting a vehicle carrying Islamic fascisti of the group of Maulavi Nazir, near the ancestral graveyard of Ahmedzai Wazir and Masud tribes in Angoor Adda area. The vehicle was destroyed and three forces of Evil were killed on the spot. Local people carried away the three bodies. Noorullah, a resident of the area, told Dawn by phone that Islamic fascisti of Maulvi Nazir group reached the area soon after the attack, cordoned it off and took the bodies away. Sources in intelligence agencies, political administration and witnesses confirmed the death of three jihad boys, including top commander Aleemullah, a close associate of Maulvi Nazir. He was said to be the fourth on the seniority list of commanders of the Nazir group. He belonged to Wana and had beat feet several drone attacks in the past. The other two Islamic fascisti killed in the attack were identified as Haji Karam and Kharh who hailed from Angoor Adda. AGENCIES ADD: "A US drone fired two missiles at a vehicle and at least three Islamic fascisti were killed," a security bigshot said. At least two other Pak intelligence officials confirmed the drone strike and the corpse count. The dead were identified as local rustics who fought under a nebulous Taliban umbrella, on behalf of jihad boy leader Maulvi Nazir, whose fighters are allied to the Haqqanis and active in the 10-year war in Afghanistan. The missile attacks are seen at the most effective weapon Washington has at hitting Al Qaeda and Afghan Islamic fascisti like the Haqqanis in the northwest. There were more than 100 such attacks last year; this year there have been around 50. Most have hit targets in North Waziristan, considering the main jihad boy sanctuary and the base of the Haqqani network. |

Maulvi Nazir group decides to stay neutral |
2009-10-19 |
![]() "Nazir is completely neutral," tribal elders told Daily Times after meeting the Taliban leader, two days before the military launched Operation Rah-e-Nijat in the agency. Last week, NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani called a 20-member jirga of elders and clerics to devise a strategy to neutralise warring tribes. Maulvi Nazir said he had told Mehsud Taliban that they were not welcome in areas controlled by the Ahmedzai Wazirs. Maulvi Nazir controls Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan Agency, along with southern parts of the agency, while the military has launched its offensive against Hakimullah from the western, eastern and northern parts of the agency. "We have told them not to come to our areas during the military operation," Nazir told Ahmedzai Wazir elders at a meeting in Wana last week. "I have snapped ties with them," he went on to assure the elders, adding that he would not support Hakeemullah or give the military an "excuse" to expand the operation into Wazir areas. But Maulvi Nazir's "support" to the military comes at a price. Before the ceasefire could be brokered, the NWFP government agreed to a number of demands forwarded by the Ahmedzai Wazirs, including the reopening of blockaded roads and the launch of several development schemes worth millions in their areas. But a delay in the fulfilment of their demands is annoying the Wazir elders. "The government has honoured no single demand so far," elders said. Experts say the ceasefire guaranteed by Maulvi Nazir would help the military gain ground against the Taliban sooner. They said military planners would also be looking to "managing or neutralising" Taliban commander Hafiz Gul Bahadar in North Waziristan Agency to keep the northern front safe and secure against Hakimullah's TTP. |

Operation only against terrorists, Wazirs assured |
2009-07-17 |
NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani visited Wana on Thursday to seek the support of Ahmedzai Wazir tribes against Baitullah Mehsud, the chief of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. "No action is being taken against Mehsud tribes. Instead certain steps are underway against those elements who have not only been openly challenging the writ of the government but also have accepted the responsibility of terrorist activities in various parts of the country," the governor told a jirga of Ahmedzai Wazirs. The governor sought the tribes' support for peace, offering fast-track development in their areas, suggesting they should stand up against the militancy. "Maintenance of law and order is a must to ensure (fast-track) development," the governor told the jirga. |
