Gaza reports American company’s distribution complex destroyed, food packages looted; Gaza was overexcited — distribution quickly recommenced, 95 aid trucks entered Strip

Gazans overrun Strip’s new aid center; operator says distribution has resumed - over 400,000 meals thus far
[IsraelTimes] IDF confirms it fired shots into air, not at center itself; US-backed aid group says centers have given out 8,000 food boxes; UN says mechanism far from reaching aid targets

Thousands of Paleostinians on Tuesday overran one of the newly established aid distribution sites in southern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
’s Rafah, only hours after the military announced the new aid mechanism, backed by Israel and the United States, began operating for the first time.

Footage posted to social media showed crowds surging into the area and taking boxes of food.

The IDF, which secures the area around the facility, confirmed that troops fired warning shots outside the compound, but denied reports claiming it opened fire from a helicopter or towards the center itself.

A military source said an Israeli Air Force helicopter was operating over the sea at the time of the incident, but not anywhere close to the distribution site.

Asked about the overrun of one of GHF’s Rafah distribution sites by thousands of Palestinians on Tuesday, the US official downplays the incident, insisting that it lasted 20 minutes.
"Control over the situation was established, food distribution operations are expected to continue as planned, and the safety of IDF troops was not compromised," the military added.

According to Paleostinian reports, the American security personnel charged with securing the area expeditiously departed at a goodly pace. There were no reports of casualties in the incident.

The newly created Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sought to downplay the incident, saying that its American security subcontractors fell back in order to allow "a small number" of people to take food.

"The needs on the ground are great. At one moment in the late afternoon, the volume of people at the SDS was such that the GHF team fell back to allow a small number of Gazooks to take aid safely and dissipate," GHF said in a statement.

Before the break-in, GHF said that "approximately 8,000 food boxes have been distributed so far. Each box feeds 5.5 people for 3.5 days, totaling 462,000 meals."

GHF claimed its operations have returned to normal.

The military announced earlier that two out of four of the recently established sites began operating for the first time, initially delivering food packages to thousands of Paleostinian families.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
an Israeli security official also tried to downplay the incident, telling the Ynet site that none of the aid had been looted.

The newly opened aid centers are operated by the GHF, an American organization that is backed by Israel, designed to bypass the UN and traditional aid agencies in a bid to keep the supplies away from Hamas
..one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
The UN and other international organizations withheld much-needed backing of the GHF, arguing that its aid initiative violates humanitarian principles by requiring Gazooks to walk long distances in order to receive aid and limiting distribution to southern Gaza, a move that would forcibly displace the Paleostinian population.

Footage purportedly shows thousands of Paleostinians overrunning one of the aid distribution sites in southern Gaza's Rafah a short while ago.

Three of the distribution sites are located in the Tel Sultan area of southern Gaza’s Rafah, while the fourth is in the Netzarim Corridor area, south of Gaza City. The two sites that began operations on Tuesday are in Rafah.

"The establishment of the distribution centers took place over the last few months, facilitated by the Israeli political echelon and in coordination with the US government," the IDF said in its first official comment on the aid sites.

"This process coincided with an ongoing dialogue and cooperation with the IDF, through the Southern Command and COGAT, as well as international aid organizations, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, and the American civilian security company," it said.

The IDF said it will "continue to facilitate humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip, while making every possible effort to ensure that the aid does not reach the hands of the Hamas terrorist organization."

Images showed aid boxes included bags of rice and dried beans, as well as flour, oil, salt, and canned vegetables, many of them in Israeli packaging.

"I am so scared because they said the company belongs to Israel and is a mercenary, and also because the resistance [Hamas] said not to go," he said in a message on the chat app WhatsApp.
Even before the chaos on Tuesday, Paleostinians voiced wariness over the new program.

"As much as I want to go because I am hungry and my children are hungry, I am afraid," said Abu Ahmed, 55, a father of seven. "I am so scared because they said the company belongs to Israel and is a mercenary, and also because the resistance [Hamas] said not to go," he said in a message on the chat app WhatsApp.

Hamas, which has in recent months faced protests by many Paleostinians who want the devastating war to end, has warned residents against accessing GHF sites, saying Israel was using the company to collect intelligence information.

"Do not go to Rafah... Do not fall into the trap... Do not risk your lives. Your homes are your fortress. Staying in your neighborhoods is survival, and awareness is your protection," a statement published by the Hamas-linked Home Front said.

"These schemes will be broken by the steadfastness of a people who do not know defeat," it added.

"Before the war, my fridge used to be full of meat, chicken, dairy, soft drinks, everything, and now I am begging for a loaf of bread," Abu Ahmed told Rooters via a chat app.

As the mechanism began operations, Jens Laerke, a spokesperson for the UN humanitarian office (OCHA), said the GHF was a distraction from what is needed, such as the opening of crossing points.

Additionally, Juliette Touma, communications director of the UN Paleostinian refugee agency, said the UN does not know what is being distributed.

"We don’t have any information," she said. "We know what’s needed, we know what’s missing, and we are very, very far from that daily target."

Senior US official hails GHF, blasts UN for refusing to get behind aid distribution effort
[IsraelTimes] The Trump administration hails the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, while blasting the UN for refusing to cooperate with the group’s new aid distribution initiative, hours after thousands of Palestinians overran one of its sites in Rafah.

“Aid is getting to the people in need, and through their secure distribution system, Israel is kept safe and Hamas empty handed,” says a statement to reporters attributed to a senior administration official.

The official appears to cite GHF’s figures, stating that roughly 8,000 boxes of food have been distributed in the foundation’s first two days of operation, with each box feeding 5.5 people for 3.5 days, totaling 462,000 meals.

The Trump official says GHF is managing to operate in Gaza, despite attempts by Hamas to place blockades on aid trucks. “GHF is a threat to Hamas’s longstanding system of looting the assistance intended for the people of Gaza.”

“The UN and other aid agencies were wrong to criticize,” the senior Trump administration official says, making no mention of Tuesday’s mass-looting incident in one of the two distribution sites GHF has begun to operate. “These organizations echoed Hamas talking points rather than praising those who are delivering results.”

While GHF was only registered this year, the Trump official says the project was born during the Biden administration but was dropped due to “bureaucratic incompetence.”

The Trump administration was impressed by the idea, though, and got behind it. “We support bold, out-of-the-box efforts to make life better for Gazans. GHF is doing exactly that. And we’re proud to back their incredible mission,” the official says.

US will renew push for countries to fund GHF once it demonstrates results — official
[IsraelTimes] The Trump administration plans to renew its push for countries and international organizations to fund the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation once its new aid distribution initiative proves to be a success, a US official tells The Times of Israel. The US official acknowledges that European countries and other nations approached earlier this month about backing GHF did not respond “favorably.”

“Countries are used to doing what they have always done,” the US official says.

However, the US official is unfazed by the initial negative response from countries, who have refrained from bankrolling GHF to date.

“The United States is a leader in innovation and once GHF works, others will want to share in its success,” the official adds.

Asked about the overrun of one of GHF’s Rafah distribution sites by thousands of Palestinians on Tuesday, the US official downplays the incident, insisting that it lasted 20 minutes and that over 400,000 meals were fed as a result of the foundation’s work.
Twenty minutes? Golly.

Israel says 95 trucks of humanitarian aid entered Gaza on Tuesday
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announces that 95 trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip today.

Israel resumed aid deliveries to Gaza last week, after a pause since March 2. Since then, 755 trucks of aid have entered the Strip.

Today’s trucks include food, medical equipment, and pharmaceutical drugs, COGAT says.

The aid underwent an inspection first by Israeli authorities before entering Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Earlier, COGAT said some 400 truckloads of aid were awaiting collection on the Gazan side of Kerem Shalom.

[RT] Blinded by propaganda: What's really happening in Syria while the new government talks peace? (DISTURBING VIDEOS)
2024-12-14
While the militants who have seized power make promises that delight Western journalists, the country is drowning in blood

Since the start of the large-scale offensive by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied opposition groups, the HTS-led Syrian Salvation Government has issued a series of loud statements.

The first concerned Russia and its support of the Syrian authorities. Russian troops were the only ones to oppose the advancing opposition forces, and the rebels urged them to end the strikes on terrorist positions, claiming that such actions would only result in civilian casualties. The Syrian Salvation Government said that its actions were aimed against the Syrian authorities, not Moscow, with which the militants intend to establish mutually beneficial cooperation.

Next, the Salvation Government released statements concerning neighboring countries. It called on Iraq to close its borders and prevent pro-Iranian groups from entering Syria to help exiled President Bashar Assad. Additionally, the rebels proclaimed that they would protect all foreign embassies, humanitarian organizations, and journalists.

A separate statement was issued regarding chemical weapons, their production facilities and storage sites. The Salvation Government assured media that these weapons would never be used and would not fall into irresponsible hands, and invited relevant international organizations to monitor them.

Some of the rebels’ most notable promises were made to ethnic and religious minorities in Syria, including Kurds, Alawites, Christians, and Shiites. The Salvation Government declared that no minority would face genocide or persecution for their views and beliefs, since they are an integral part of the Syrian nation. It also said that inclusivity is the strength, not the weakness, of the future Syria.

In addressing the Kurds, the rebels condemned the barbaric practices of ISIS, such as murder, slavery, and other brutal actions committed against the Kurdish population by jihadists. They also guaranteed the safety of Syrian soldiers who laid down their arms and surrendered.

These statements by the Salvation Government and the HTS leader, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, were met with enthusiasm by prominent experts of Islamic radicalism and fundamentalism. They praised al-Julani’s professionalism, transparency, and moderate views, and the fact that he distanced himself from his jihadist roots.

Western media picked up this narrative and, in an attempt to whitewash the rebel leader, CNN released an exclusive interview with him. In this interview, al-Julani repeated the above-mentioned statements made by the Syrian Salvation Government and noted that the ambitions of HTS and its allies are confined to Syria, which should reassure potential adversaries and key regional players. The goals of HTS, he claimed, were to overthrow Bashar Assad and then to start “building Syria” – and the rebels had already achieved the first goal.

However, as often happens, the statements issued by the rebels were far from the truth. HTS terrorists and allied opposition groups have already released dozens of videos demonstrating executions of members of Arab-Kurdish forces, Syrian soldiers (even those who surrendered voluntarily), Alawites, and Shiites. In several video clips, militants are seen slitting the throats of their captives.

Additionally, there are videos of the rebels hunting down former soldiers, which they refer to as “patrolling” or “clearing” an area. Mostly, their targets are shot on the spot. In addition, the rebels have published dozens of video messages threatening various minorities and neighboring countries. Some of them claim that the coup in Syria gives them the freedom to destroy Israel and liberate Palestinian territories.

Russian-speaking terrorists from the Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar and Ajnad al-Kavkaz jihadist militant groups, whose former leader and certain members are currently fighting in the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the side of Ukraine, have threatened that their next target will be Russia.

The actions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and affiliated opposition groups have nothing in common with the rebels’ public statements. They stand in stark contrast to the promises of a measured and moderate stance when it comes to the future of Syria and the status of its minorities.

Since the Syrian Salvation Government was established in 2017, we have closely monitored the rebels’ statements and propaganda. The militants claim that peace and stability reign in the areas under their control in Syria’s Idlib governorate, where all problems are resolved effortlessly; and al-Julani, they say, would have no trouble applying his “invaluable experience” of governing Idlib to the rest of Syria.

In reality, the population was facing immense economic and social hardships. Even significant financial support from Türkiye failed to make a difference. The funds were simply embezzled by the leadership of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. Abu Mohammad al-Julani established an absolute totalitarian regime where torture, abduction of dissenters, and extrajudicial killings thrived. In Idlib province, weekly protests against HTS and its leadership took place. Al-Julani even resorted to orchestrating terrorist attacks, human trafficking, and a drugs trade. This was confirmed by Abu Ahmed Zakura, the former chief financier and head of security for the group, who fled Idlib in December 2023.

[ColonelCassad] CIA and MOSSAD pocket terrorists Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) open a new front against Russia

The leader of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist organization, led byAbu Muhammad al-Jawlani,
we had an unconfirmed report here two days ago that the Russians had killed him, so perhaps he is no longer leading the group. And a note from the Times of Israel that the Americans believe his name is Ahmed Hussein al-Shar’a. But given the complexities of Arab tribal names, possibly both this and the al-Wahidi name below are true parts of the whole, like the blind philosophers describing the elephant…
has attracted considerable attention in recent years. Jawlani, who was raised in Camp Bucca during the Iraq War, has featured prominently in American documentaries, including the PBS series Frontline.

HTS leader Jawlani, whose real name is Osama al-Abbasi al-Wahidi, was born in Daraa in northern Syria. His biographies describe him as a CIA recruit. According to open sources, he joined al-Qaeda in Iraq during the invasion of Iraq and quickly rose through the ranks. He was close to Zarqawi, the leader of the organization until his death in 2006 following an airstrike.

Jevlani, who fled Iraq, was captured and spent two years “training” in a camp in Bucca, where the US allegedly created ISIS, before being released without cause. After leaving Bucca, he began working with ISIS leader Baghdadi, who sent Jevlani to Syria in 2011.

After his release, he worked with ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and later received support from Hamza bin Laden in 2015. During this time, he gave frequent speeches as ISIS’s power in Syria began to wane. In his speech, he said that the region to target should be Latakia, where Russia is strong. He also called on Muslims living in Russia to attack civilians in the country.

HTS has recently made attempts to distance itself from its ties to al-Qaeda. Recently, for the first time in more than a decade, a long-closed church in Idlib province was hosted by Jawlani.

James Jeffrey, the former US special representative for Syria, called HTS a “valuable tool” in the US strategy in Idlib. Jeffrey acknowledged that HTS is primarily focused on fighting Assad and does not pose an international threat. While arguing that it was an “unfair and political decision” for the US to designate itself as terrorists, Jawlani himself used the following statements:

“The current Assad regime deserves to be included on the terrorist list. We have not posed a threat to Western society in any way. We call on these countries to reconsider their policies. We criticize Western policies in the AMI region, but we have never talked about starting a war against the US.”

Abu Ahmed Zekkour, known as HTS's financial director, published a letter on December 14, 2023, severing ties with the organization and accusing Jawlani of being a US agent. Zekkour claimed that Jawlani met with US and British intelligence officials at the Bab al-Hawa border crossing.

Tasnim, the Iranian News Agency, reported in a report on September 17, 2024, that HTS has also received support in training and producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Ukrainian military instructors. A group of 250 Ukrainian instructors are training HTS fighters in Idlib on the operation, production, and upgrading of UAVs. The instructors have been deployed at various production facilities in Idlib city and the Jisir al-Shughur area.

The Syrian government is still struggling to restore sovereignty over the entire territory of the country in the fight against Takfiri groups run by the CIA and Mossad.
Those nefarious Joooooos are everywhere, donchaknow, and have their thumbs in all the interesting pies. Ask Iran, whose IRGC anti-Mossad unit was a special Mossad project for a while. And then there are the spy squirrels and spy herons…
With Russia's advance on the Ukrainian front, it has become known that the United States is heading from Ukraine to Syria in an attempt to distract Russia and open a new front in the region. The Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported that Kirill Budanov was in regular contact with the leader of the Tahrir al-Sham delegation.

Iraq
Iraqi forces arrest two ISIS leaders
2024-02-29
[IsraelTimes] Iraqi security forces on Saturday announced the arrest of two "dangerous" leaders of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) allegedly responsible for committing numerous crimes in Fallujah.

Intelligence forces arrested "two of the most dangerous ISIS leaders" in an operation conducted outside Iraq, the military’s Security Media Cell said in a statement without specifying where.

The two were identified as Issam Abd Ali Saeedan, known as Abu Zaid, and Bashir Abd Ali Saeedan known by the alias of Abu Ahmed Etisalat. They were "involved in the most heinous terrorist crimes in Iraq," according to the statement.

Issam Abd Ali Saeedan was reportedly responsible for documenting "crimes" committed against Iraqi soldiers in Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
while Bashir Abd Ali Saeedan was in charge of media posts covering attacks in the city after 2014.

Fallujah was the first Iraqi city to fall to ISIS in January 2014. The terror group went on to seize swathes of land across central and northern Iraq. ISIS was declared territorially defeated in 2017 when Kurdish and Iraqi fighters supported by the United States-led coalition drove them out of the land they seized years prior in a brazen offensive.

Despite its territorial defeat, Iraqi security forces continue their pursuit of ISIS remnants, particularly in the disputed areas stretching across the provinces of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
Salahaddin, and Diyala.

Iraq’s Interior Minister Abdul-Amir al-Shammari on Saturday said the group is now largely confined. "ISIS is under continuous confinement. They seize places of difficult geography, and we continue to chase them and kill them," he said.

Residents of Azerbaijan convicted of involvement in a radical group in Syria
2023-06-16
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The Baku court has sentenced members of the radical group "Army of Allah" in Syria, Vasif Einiev and Shikhzade Mammadov. Both are sentenced to seven years in prison, despite remorse.

According to the prosecution, Einiev and Mammadov went to the Syrian city of Idlib, where they joined the group, in which until February 2022 they took part in the battles and carried out guard duty. They were arrested in January at the airport on their return to Baku from Syria.

Vasif Einiev, a 29-year-old resident of Shirvan, told the court that since mid-2019 he began to adhere to the ideas of Salafism. In March 2021, on the social network Instagram, Einiev met the brothers Fagan and Hagan Geylerov, who suggested that he go to Syria to "war against the infidels."

On May 31, 2021, Einiev, together with the Geilerov brothers, flew to Ankara, where via the Telegram messenger he contacted an Azerbaijani nicknamed "Abu Jabir", who ordered them to go to Antakya, from where they were illegally transported to Syria. There, Einiev and the Feyzievs were met by ethnic Azerbaijanis who called themselves "Abu Jabir", "Abu Rayyan" and "Ali", who helped them get to Idlib, haqqin.az writes.

"We arrived in the mountainous village of Yamalia, from the height of which the Turkish border was visible. Upon arrival at the village, my phone was taken away and placed in some house, where, in addition to Azerbaijanis, another 50 people of different nationalities lived ... A certain Elnur, nicknamed " Abu Ahmed," Einiev said in court.

According to him, for almost half a year he was part of a combat group that defended its territory from another illegal group - Jabhat al-Nusra (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia). "We were taught how to handle weapons, however, the weapons themselves were not issued. On October 25, 2021, Jabhat al-Nusra militants * attacked us. To defend myself, I was forced to buy a Kalashnikov assault rifle for $ 70 and take a place on the defensive," - said the defendant.

According to the defendant, al-Nusra militants * opened fire from heavy machine guns and artillery, after which Abu Ahmed decided to surrender. As a result of the clash, several Azerbaijanis died, and the survivors were held captive for two weeks.

“We were demanded to join the ranks of Al Nusra *, threatening to hand us over to the Turkish police if we did not agree. Some of our militants agreed, the rest, including me, spent three months in captivity, after which I and two other Dagestanis were handed over to hands of the Turkish police. And six Azerbaijanis remained in the Jabhat-al-Nusra group*. I am very sorry for what I did," Einiev said.

A 28-year-old resident of the Hajikabul district, Shihzade Mammadov, nicknamed "Abdulhey", told the court that he went to Syria with childhood friends ... In Syria, where they got illegally ... at the end of 2021, their positions were attacked by the Jabhat-An- Nusra"*. "After three days of fighting, several people were killed, and we surrendered. I am very sorry for what I did," the defendant said, quoted by haqqin.az.

Vasif Einiev and Shikhzade Mammadov were each sentenced to seven years in a penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that in February, brothers Mirjavad and Mirjalal Salakhov from Azerbaijan were arrested on charges of participating in the activities of the Islamic State terrorist organization in Syria. And earlier, the State Security Service of Azerbaijan announced the detention of an alleged accountant of a terrorist organization.

The PMU response:

And another militia

Rudaw reports the story as well:
US forces conducted airstrikes on five facilities belonging to an Iran-backed militia in Iraq and Syria on Sunday night, the US Department of Defense has said. Fifteen of its fighters were killed in western Iraq, an official from the militia told AFP.

The "precision defensive airstrikes" were conducted on three Kataib Hezbollah locations in Iraq and two in Syria, according to a statement from US Secretary of Defense assistant Jonathan Hoffman, in response to repeated attacks on Iraqi bases hosting US-led coalition personnel.

Among the fifteen killed were commanders, an official from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) - an umbrella group of Iran-backed militias in Iraq, including Kataib Hezbollah - told AFP. Iraqi Security Media Cell reported four Kataib Hezbollah members were killed and 30 injured in three airstrikes at a base on the Iraq-Syria border at 7 pm on Sunday evening.

Among those killed was militia commander Abu Ali Khazali, according to a statement from the PMF.

A base in al-Qaim, western Iraq, was one of the targeted locations, a US defense official told Rudaw English.

The five locations included "weapon storage facilities and command and control locations that KH [Kataib Hezbollah] uses to plan and execute attacks on OIR [Operation Inherent Resolve] coalition forces," according to the US Defense statement.

The strikes "will degrade KH's ability to conduct future attacks against OIR coalition forces," the statement added.

Sunday's airstrikes follow an attack on the K1 military base in Kirkuk province on Friday night.

One US civilian contractor was killed when ten missiles struck the base. At least two Iraqi policemen were killed, according to a federal police source. Several US and Iraqi service members were also injured, US officials from the Combined Joint Task Force said on Saturday morning.

The US blamed Friday's attack on Kataib Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militia that forms part of the PMF, a powerful umbrella group of militias in Iraq that operate with little Iraqi government oversight.

Iraqi bases hosting US military personnel have been subject to a spate of attacks in the last two months. Iran-backed groups are suspected by the US and its allies to have conducted the attacks.

One of Iraq's biggest parliamentary alliances has condemned the airstrikes as "American aggression against Iraqi sovereignty."

"The Nasr Coalition...demands the government [of Iraq] commit the American forces present on Iraqi soil to the terms of the agreements signed between the two countries...such attacks will harm security, stability and bilateral relations," the statement read.
The Times of Israel adds:
A few hours after the strikes, four rockets exploded near a base housing US troops close to Iraq’s capital without wounding anyone, an Iraqi security official told AFP.

The military spokesman for Iraq’s outgoing prime minister Abel Abdel Mahdi decried “a violation of Iraqi sovereignty”.

Another powerful pro-Iran faction, Assaib Ahl al-Haq — whose leaders were recently hit with US sanctions — called for Americans to withdraw from Iraq.

“The American military presence has become a burden for the Iraqi state and a source of threat against our forces,” it said in a statement.

“It is therefore imperative for all of us to do everything to expel them by all legitimate means.”

Bahrain supports U.S. strikes on Kataib Hizbollah sites in Iraq, Syria

[Jpost] Bahrain expressed support for strikes conducted by the United States targeting Kataib Hezbollah facilities in Iraq and Syria, Bahrain's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

Israel praises US strike on Iran-backed militia, calling it a ‘turning point’

[IsraelTimes] Foreign Minister Israel Katz praises the United States for its strikes on bases belonging to the Iran-backed Iraqi Hezbollah militia in Iraq and Syria, calling it “a turning point in the regional reality in light of the conduct of Iran and its metastases.”

“If the Iranians make a mistake in understanding the essence and power of the US, they will suffer blows they have never suffered before,” Katz says in a tweet.

U.S. officials: strikes on Iraq and Syria 'successful'

[Jpost] - U.S. officials said on Sunday that air strikes in Iraq and Syria against an Iran-backed militia group were successful, but warned that "additional actions" may still be taken in the region to defend U.S. interests.
Oh dear. I should be concerned, were I in any way connected to the Mad Mullahs...
The U.S. military carried out the strikes on Sunday against the Kataib Hezbollah militia group in response to the killing of a U.S. civilian contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base, officials said.

Regime’s shelling kills 19 outside Damascus, say activists
2018-01-01
[ARABNEWS] Syrian activists and a first responder group said on Sunday that shelling and rocket fire in the suburbs of Damascus killed 19 civilians a day after medical evacuations were completed to save the lives of 29 others.

Regime forces have advanced against fighters on the edge of the northwestern province of Idlib, the last outside government control, a monitor and the state news agency said.
... and if you can't believe the state news agency who can you believe?

Regime forces backed by Russian warplanes have been battling fighters in an area straddling the border between Idlib and Hama provinces.

The fighting, which could signal the start of a major offensive to seize Idlib province from holy warriors dominated by a former al-Qaeda affiliate, escalated on Thursday.

On Saturday, regime troops advanced, seizing several villages and surrounding areas, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based war monitor.

State news agency SANA said regime forces had taken control of five villages, areas and "strategic hills" in the northeast of Hama province.

An AFP correspondent said civilians continued to flee areas near the battle zone, heading north toward the lovely provincial capital of Idlib with their belongings piled high on pickup trucks.

"We were the target of strikes more than once ‐ we couldn’t stay," said Abu Ahmed, a man in his 60s from the southeast of Idlib province, fleeing with his family in a pickup.

"I don’t know how to say how I feel, leaving my land and home at my age. We are leaving without even knowing where we’re headed."

In the Maaret al-Numan area, some people have put up tents, pots and pans piled at the entrance flaps.

"We escaped for the sake of the children. They were terrified by air raids and strikes," said Abu Khaled, a bearded man in his 30s wearing a red and white checkered keffiyeh headscarf.

The father of four, from Hama province, had already fled once with his family ‐ to Idlib, where they lived in a camp for the displaced.

Since Thursday, the festivities have killed dozens of regime soldiers and allied members of paramilitary units, as well as 29 holy warriors from opposition groups or from former al-Qaeda affiliate Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant, now something else...
, the Observatory said.

Assad forces first aim to take control of the southeast of Idlib province, Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said.

This would allow the regime to have full control of a road that links the capital Damascus to Aleppo.

ISIS executes 1 in al-Bab

[ARA News] Aleppo – The Islamic State (ISIS) radical group on Friday executed a young man in the city of al-Bab in Syria’s northern Aleppo Governorate after accusing him of helping civilians evacuate the city.

Mustafa al-Hazouri, 24, was beheaded by ISIS on charges of smuggling citizens to areas beyond the group’s control.

“He was captured by ISIS militants while helping a group of civilians escape from al-Bab,” a local source told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The extremist group publicly executed al-Hazouri in central al-Bab.

“They wanted to punish him because the group has banned the people of al-Bab from leaving the city under any circumstances,” another source told ARA News.

This comes amid fears of ISIS using civilians as human shields in al-Bab, where fighting continued between the group and rebel factions of the Euphrates Shield Brigades.

Last week, ISIS executed Abdulkarim al-Hassan, a truck driver, for trying to smuggle three families out of Raqqa. “Al-Hassan was caught by the militants near the western exit of Raqqa. He was hiding three families from Raqqa inside his truck, apparently trying to smuggle them to areas held by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),” local media activist Muhammad Murdam told ARA News, citing ISIS officials.

The pro-ISIS Sharia Court of Raqqa decided to execute and crucify the man on charges of treason and apostasy. In front of hundreds of people, al-Hassan was executed by firing squad and his body was crucified on an electricity pole, eyewitnesses told ARA News.

ISIS supplants local officials with their own

[ARA News] Raqqa – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) has promoted a number of foreign jihadists to leading positions in Syria’s northeastern Raqqa Governorate, to replace senior local jihadists.

The Islamic State named Abu Saraqeb al-Maghribi, a Moroccan, as Head of Security in Tabqa city in Raqqa Governorate, an informed source told ARA News, adding that al-Maghribi was promoted after the Syrian head of security in Tabqa was arrested by ISIS on corruption charges.

ISIS has also named an Egyptian, known as Abu Jandal al-Masri, as Chief of Information in Raqqa. Al-Masri replaced the Syrian jihadist Abu Ahmed al-Souri at the request of the ISIS supreme leader al-Baghdadi.

Furthermore, the group has replaced another Syrian official with an Algerian, called Abu Muhammad al-Jazrawi. Al-Jazrawi was named as Chief of Hisba –or Islamic Police.

Jawad al-Ali, a Syrian political analyst, told ARA News that promoting foreign jihadists to such leading positions “shows that ISIS no longer trusts its local members.”

ISIS has recently executed dozens of people, including its own militants, on charges of spying for hostile forces in Syria.

“The Islamic State tries to take some preventive steps in a bid to avoid any breaches in its security institutions in Raqqa [ISIS’ de facto capital],” al-Ali said.

“However, isolating Syrian jihadist leaders in this way may lead to a serious internal conflict within the group,” he told ARA News.

This comes amid an ongoing military campaign by the SDF, backed by an air cover from the US-led coalition, as part of the second phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation for Raqqa. The SDF has so far captured over 1400 km² in western Raqqa within the second phase of the operation, that started on December 10. During the first phase of Euphrates Wrath, that was launched on November 6, the SDF captured roughly 560 km² of land in northern Raqqa.

The SDF launched the second phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation with the objective of securing Raqqa’s western countryside and Tabqa Dam, which bridges the Euphrates River. The long-term objective of Euphrates Wrath is the elimination of the Islamic State in its de facto capital, Raqqa city.

ISIS continues its war on civilians in Mosul

Erbil – (Reuters) A medic peeled blood-soaked bandages from the arm of a boy in the emergency room of a hospital in northern Iraq, revealing the full extent of the damage inflicted by an Islamic State mortar attack.

“Is something wrong with my hand?” the boy asked his father, who stood over the stretcher covering his son’s eyes to prevent him seeing the wound.

“It’s nothing, just a small wound,” replied the father, Abu Nidal, as the medic inspected the mangled remains of the boy’s hand, maimed beyond repair.

Around them were dozens of other civilians who have been wounded in areas of Mosul since they were retaken from Islamic State by Iraqi forces trying to dislodge the militants from their largest urban stronghold in Iraq.

The civilians say are not accidental victims caught in the crossfire and that Islamic State has been targeting them.

“In any area liberated by the army, Daesh (Islamic State)considers us apostates, so it is permissible to kill us,” said the boy’s father, who asked not to be identified.

His son had insisted on accompanying him to buy flour at a market in the Zahra neighborhood of Mosul when a mortar bomb hit them, nearly three weeks after Iraqi forces entered the district.

As Iraqi forces edge forward in Mosul’s eastern districts, taking pains to avoid harming civilians, Islamic State mortar and sniper fire is hitting the people it ruled harshly for more than two years.

With more than 100,000 men backed by an international coalition arrayed against an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 insurgents inside the city, there is little doubt Iraqi forces will eventually prevail. The question is at what cost.

PRICE OF FREEDOM
An average of 100 casualties are arriving each day at the hospital in the Kurdish regional capital Erbil, where those with wounds too serious to be treated at field clinics on Mosul’s outskirts are rushed, a hospital administrator said.

In the burns unit, a 28-year old woman lay wrapped in bandages, only part of her face showing. Ten days after the army retook her neighborhood, she was making bread when her stove was knocked over during a mortar attack and she was set ablaze.

“They (Islamic State) harmed us after the liberation,” she said in a weak voice.

About 70,000 of Mosul’s estimated population of 1 million have fled to camps in the surrounding area, according to U.N. figures, but the majority have remained in their homes.

“We decided to stay because my mother and father are ill and it’s hard to live in a camp,” said 42-year old Abu Abd al-Rahman. That decision cost him a leg, he said, folding back a blanket to show a stump below the knee.

“May God take revenge on them,” he said.

Despite the growing number of casualties, the wounded praised the conduct of the Iraqi security forces and said it was a price worth paying to be free again from Islamic State.

“We are happy to be liberated, but Daesh spoiled it,” said 38-year-old Abu Ahmed, a blanket covering a leg wound after he was shot by a sniper. “They have no mercy”.

Across the corridor was Ziyad Younis, who buried his elder brother en route to the hospital. He is now tending to a nephew wounded in a mortar attack as he had breakfast.

“Our one hope was to be liberated; we didn’t expect it to be like this,” he said.
