Man Attacks Synagogue in Sochi with Hammer and Stones
2025-05-31
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] A man with a hammer and stones attacked a synagogue in Sochi. This was reported on May 30 by the press service of the Chief Rabbi of Russia.

It is noted that this happened on the afternoon of May 29. The attacker arrived at the building by taxi. He took a hammer out of his bag, threatened the guard and tried to get inside. At the same time, a children's club was in session in the synagogue at that time.

“The unknown person, despite the efforts of the guard, broke down the gate with hammer blows and kicks, entered the yard, but, fortunately, was unable to get into the building and the children and teachers in the building were not harmed,” RIA Novosti quoted the press service representative as saying.

Before the police arrived, the man threw stones at the synagogue building. He did not shout any slogans, but he filmed his actions on his phone. As a result, he was detained.

US Africa commander highlights terror growth in Sahel and competition with China for influence
2025-05-30
[FOX] A top United States military general warned Thursday that terror groups in Africa are ramping up their ability to conduct attacks in the U.S.

Gen. Michael Langley, the four-star Marine General who leads U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), said the Sahel region of the continent is now the "flashpoint of prolonged conflict and growing instability. It is the epicenter of terrorism on the globe."

Several terror groups have expanded drastically in the last three years. Al-Qaeda in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb, or AQIM, is three times the size it was in 2022, he said, and has spread across Mali, Burkina Faso, and parts of Niger, which the U.S. military pulled out of last year.

Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin,
…in Arabic it’s called JNIM and in French is GSIM. Recent estimates of its size range from 2,000-6,000 turbans…
a faction affiliated with Al-Qaeda, is now four times the size it was in 2022, expanding mainly in Burkina Faso.

"We're keeping a good eye on this because they could have the capacity to attack the homeland," Langley said in a call with reporters.

"Throughout my travels across West Africa and through dialog here at the conference, the concerns shared by my peers match my own," he added. "One of the terrorist's key goals now is access to the west coast of Africa. If they gain access to the vast coastline, they can diversify their revenue streams and evolve their tactics, more easily exporting terrorism to American shores."

He noted that the terror groups engage in illicit activity like smuggling, human trafficking and arms trading, which fund their nefarious actions and destabilize the region.

U.S. forces over the weekend conducted an airstrike against the al Qaeda-linked al-Shabab in Somalia. The East African country has been wracked for decades by attacks and insurgency from Islamist terrorists, both from ISIS and al-Shabab.

The U.S. is in a race with China and Russia to gain influence and trust with the local governments of several African nations to help protect citizens from terror groups.

Langley said there is an increasing concern about the number of African soldiers going to Beijing for military training and replicating a U.S. International Military Education and Training (IMET) program.

/ISWAP attack in New Marte and Kumshe area of Borno state.

A statement released on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, Reuben Kovangiya, said many of the Death Eaters were also killed.

The statement reads, ''In the early hours of May 27, 2025, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) foiled an attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP holy warriors on their location in New Marte, Borno State.

''The holy warriors attempted to infiltrate the troops' location but were met with heavy gunfire. The Air Component provided immediate Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance and offensive fire support, leading to the decimation of several fleeing terrorists.''

Kovangiya said the failed attack was repelled by a combined effort of ground forces and the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai.

Nigerian government losing ground to a resurgent Boko Haram and its IS-affiliated splinter : Peoples Dispatch
2025-05-28
[PEOPLESDISPATCH.ORG] Amid a series of attacks in Nigeria's northeastern border state of Borno, its governor, Babagana Zulum, sounded an alarm that only one of the over 300 towns and villages in its Marte Local Government Area (LGA) remains under government control.

Several other of the 27 LGAs of the state have also been attacked this year, especially since March. The attackers? A resurgent Boko Haram and its splinter, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Past midnight on May 23, Boko Haram button men were intercepted by the army while trying to infiltrate a brigade's headquarters in the Damboa LGA. In the two-hour-long battle that ensued, two soldiers and 16 forces of Evil were reportedly killed before the latter retreated.

The night before, around 10:30 pm on May 22, the army killed five more murderous Moslems while repelling an attack on a military base in Gajibo village of the Dikwa LGA. The button men also opened fire on civilians in the village, killing at least nine and injuring many more.

Dozens more civilians were executed last week in the Kukawa LGA, where a Boko Haram faction's button men reportedly rounded up over a hundred residents, mostly bean farmers and fishermen, in the village of Malam Karanti and its neighboring Kwatandashi on May 15. They were marched into a bush where 57 bodies, most of them with slit throats, were recovered two days later.

RIVALRY AND COOPERATION BETWEEN BOKO HARAM AND ISWAP
Local media reports and eyewitness accounts that Boko Haram attacked these villagers for paying protection money to its rival ISWAP highlight that civilians remain the victims even when the conflict is within the Jihadist movement.

ISWAP was formed in 2016 and affiliated itself with the Islamic State after it broke away from Boko Haram which formed in 2002. In 2009, Boko Haram unleashed a terror campaign, which continues till today, killing 36,000 people and displacing another 2.2 million. Clashes between these two rivals have also been reported. Nevertheless, the Nigerian government is losing ground again to the Jihadists, even as they fight each other.

Their rivalry and collaboration appear to be separated by a thin and often blurred line. Nigerian media attributes several attacks to ''Boko Haram/ISWAP'', including the attack on Gajibo on May 22 and the earlier coordinated raids between May 12 and 13 on the two military bases — one in Rann in Kala Balge LGA, and another in Gajiram in the Nganzai LGA.

Vanguard reported that five soldiers were killed and six others were maimed in Rann, while the army was able to repel the attack in Gajiram — both of which have come under repeated attacks this year.

Earlier on May 12, button men had also struck another military base in Marte town in Marte LGA on the border with Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, killing seven soldiers and dislodging others before stealing weapons. After the base was briefly overrun, 20,000 people fled the town to take refuge in an Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp in Dikwa LGA's town.

''This huge number is a threat as allowing them to stay in the camp may'' leave ''the younger ones— vulnerable to recruitment by the murderous Moslems,'' Governor Zulum warned.

Reassured by his visit to the town with security forces in the aftermath of this attack, many of the residents have returned, and are now ''resettled for the second time,'' he said in a presser on May 18. They were first resettled here about four years ago when the army retook control over this area from the forces of Evil under the previous administration.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
with Nigeria's economy shrinking under the deepening neoliberal austerity measures by the current administration, the security forces are increasingly ill-equipped and underfunded. They have been ceding ground once again to a resurgent Boko Haram, which is reportedly deploying drones of the sort used by Israel and Ukraine.

Nigerian Military Rescues 275 Hostages, Clears More Boko Haram Enclaves — THISDAYLIVE

in the North-east, the Nigerian military has again rescued about 275 hostages and dislodged Death Eaters remnants from their enclaves in some parts of Borno State.

In the latest offensive, the troops also killed 15 terrorists, arrested six others and recovered several items and weapon making materials.

This was disclosed in a statement signed monday by the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, saying the military recorded many successes at different operational areas in Borno State.

Usman said troops from the 152 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with those from Sector 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) last Sunday carried out clearance operations in suspected terrorist hideouts around Madawaya general area, cleared an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making factory, killed 15 Death Eaters and recovered some weapons.

The troops, he noted, cleared Death Eaters in Madawaya, Jere, Kardile, Koujili, Ngenere and Maksamari as well as Douse, Bembem, Zombulum and Taraji villages.

In addition, he said, they recovered several vehicles and cycle of violences.

''They also discovered and destroyed the Boko Haram terrorists' IED making factory at Bula Umara and killed 15 Death Eaters in the same area. In addition, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, four fully loaded magazines with 7.62mm ammunitions two power generating sets, welding machines, assorted batteries and solar panels,'' he stated.

Usman listed other items recovered by the troops to include drums of beans and other grains as well as bandolier.

''The gallant soldiers also rescued 275 persons held hostage by the Boko Haram terrorists. One interesting thing is that, one of the rescued persons gave birth to baby boy shortly after their liberation. Both mother and the child are doing fine.

Boko Haram informants among politicians, soldiers
2025-05-23
[VANGUARDNGR] Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, alleged yesterday that some politicians and members of the armed forces act as informants and collaborators for Boko Haram

holy warriors.

The governor, who made the allegation in an interview on News Central's Breakfast programme, also said the Nigerian Army lacks requisite equipment to fight terrorists, noting that devoid of politics, Boko Haram can be wiped out in six months.

Zulum spoke on a day Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said some of the holy warriors and bandidos terrorising the country are not Nigerians, even as the Senate warned that insurgency could spread to other parts of the North, if it was not checked now.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
efforts by Vanguard to get the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, to respond to the allegations proved abortive as his phone line repeatedly said the owner was unavailable.

Messages sent to him on his Whatsapp line were also not responded to.
But speaking during the interview, the Borno governor vowed that the state will strengthen its intelligence network and deal with saboteurs ''ruthlessly.''

He said: ''We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian armed forces, among politicians, and within the communities. What we shall do is strengthen our intelligence and deal with them ruthlessly.

''Let's remove contractocracy. In six months, we can put an end to this madness; we need not politicise insecurity.''

Insecurity: Our borders are porous, some insurgents are not Nigerians — Akpabio

[VANGUARDNGR] The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that some bully boyz involved in the recent resurgence of Boko Haram

attacks in parts of Nigeria are not Nigerian nationals. He explained that these murderous Moslems carry out attacks in Nigeria and then retreat to neighboring countries to regroup before launching further assaults, taking advantage of Nigeria's mostly non-existent borders.

Speaking in Abuja during a discussion on a motion regarding the resurgence of Boko Haram activities in Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas of Adamawa State and other North East states, Akpabio stressed the need for constant vigilance.

He said, ''Our borders are very porous. Some of these bully boyz are not Nigerians. They cross our borders to launch attacks and then escape back to their countries to reinforce their ranks, especially when they find our defenses relaxed.''

The Senate has urged the Federal Government to establish a military base in Hong Local Government Area to bolster existing security personnel and prevent Boko Haram insurgency from spreading to other parts of the North and beyond.

hard boyz from 19 to 20 May. The assault occurred in Kerawa, a locality on the border with Nigeria, within the Kolofata sub-division of the Mayo-Sava division in the Far North region.

A member of the local vigilante committee said the assailants, who came from Nigeria, targeted a Cameroonian military post. ''After opening fire on the post, the assailants quickly fled towards the Nigeria-Cameroon border,'' he stated.

The recent attack highlights an alarming trend, as Boko Haram hard boyz have become more aggressive since March, utilising previously unseen sophisticated weaponry during their operations. Notably, one major incident occurred on the night of March 24 to 25, 2025, in Wulgo, in the Logone-et-Chari division, where 12 Cameroonian soldiers bit the dust.

This week's deadly assault serves as a reminder that, despite claims of a retreat by the terrorists, the threat they pose remains constant within the Lake Chad Basin. Even with strong responses from the Cameroonian army, Boko Haram continues to conduct violent mostly peaceful operations, instilling fear and destabilising the border areas with Nigeria. This comes despite repeated assertions from the military that they have broken the back of Boko Haram in the region.

As part of its intensified violent mostly peaceful campaign, Boko Haram/ISWAP increased the deployment of improvised bombs (IEDs) along critical highways in the Lake Chad region, especially in Nigeria. Over the past month, numerous IED detonations occurred, resulting in casualties among both civilians and security forces.

Recent developments have seen two significant bridges — one in the Gujiba local government area of Yobe State and the other in the Biu local government area of Borno State — damaged by IED blasts attributed to the terrorist group. These incidents have significantly disrupted mobility, making entire routes perilous and putting commuters at heightened risk of attacks, particularly in resettled communities that are already unstable.

The destruction of these essential infrastructures also threatens humanitarian efforts and the region's economic stability. Human rights groups, humanitarian organizations, and local media have cautioned for months that resettling populations without adequate security measures may expose them to reprisals and further displacement.

Don't allow Marte, other Borno's towns captured, Zulum begs FG - Businessday NG

[BUSINESSDAY.NG] Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has appealed to the Federal Government to deploy decisive strategies that will ensure that Marte town and other Borno communities do not fall under the control of the Boko Haram

and ISWAP turbans.

Governor Zulum, who was actively involved in coordinating security logistics till late in the night at the weekend, undertook a tour to assess the challenges faced in Marte town, while also exploring sustainable solutions to foster stability.

Before Governor Zulum's arrival, Marte was completely deserted following a Boko Haram attack last Friday, with thousands taking refuge in Dikwa town.

Speaking to journalists, the governor emphasised that his visit to Marte was to foster community cooperation, resilience and continuous support to the security agencies, stating that ''Marte was resettled about four years ago, but unfortunately, over the last three days, it was ransacked and was displaced again.''

''About 20,000 people left Marte for Dikwa; this huge number is a threat, as allowing them to stay in the camp may make most of the younger ones become vulnerable to recruitment by the turbans.

''Alhamdulillah, we returned to Marte yesterday and spent the night with the support of the Nigerian Army and our volunteers. The community is now resettled for the second time. Still, my prayers to the federal government of Nigeria and the Nigerian Army are that we do everything possible to keep this town on the ground.

''Hitherto, Marte Local Government comprises over 300 towns and villages, now we have only one standing, if we cannot maintain this one, then we will lose the whole Local Government to the turbans, which will be very obnoxious, and I think we will not allow this to happen. Therefore, I am calling on the federal government and the Nigerian Army so that we can put our heads together and hold our ground for this single town in this LGA to remain.''

The governor reiterated his commitment to supporting security agencies in attaining lasting peace in Borno State, saying, ''On my part as the Governor of Borno State, I would do everything within my power to support our gallant military in their efforts towards lasting peace in our beloved State.''

West Africa Province raiding a military base.

The attacks come as Nigeria's embattled northeast -- facing an insurgency that since 2009 has killed 40,000 and displaced two million -- has witnessed renewed attacks in recent weeks.

While violence has fallen from its 2014-2015 peak, the governor of Borno recently warned that the military was losing ground to jihadists. A spate of attacks killed 100 people.

Militants from Boko Haram killed at least 17 fishermen and farmers on Thursday, local anti-jihadist militia members told AFP, warning that the toll may rise.
