Palestinians officially relaunch bid to become United Nations member state, US ‘signals opposition’
2024-04-04
[IsraelTimes] Palestine Liberation Organization seeks recognition as state from world body, which granted it observer status in 2012, but vote on application can be vetoed by US.
I’m confused. They keep telling us the Palestinian Authority government is nothing like the PLO, even though PA President Mahmoud Abbas is the current head of Fatah, the largest group in the PLO.
The Paleostine Liberation Organization has officially revived its application to become a full member state in the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
, according to a letter from its UN envoy dated Tuesday.

The PLO, which has had observer status at the world body since 2012, has lobbied for years to gain full membership, which would amount to recognition of Paleostinian statehood.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
, the Paleostinian UN envoy, Riyad Mansour, requested "upon instructions of the Paleostinian leadership" that an application dating back to 2011 be reconsidered this month by the Security Council.

The letter has been transmitted to the council, according to the documents seen by the AFP news agency.

Mansour has repeatedly said in recent months that in the face of Israel’s military offensive in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip in response to the devastating October 7 onslaught by Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
, UN membership was a priority for the PA.

A council committee of 15 members first assesses an application to see if it satisfies the requirements for UN membership. The application can then either be shelved or put forward for a formal vote in the Security Council. Approval requires at least nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the US, Russia, China, La Belle France, or Britannia.

If the council approves the membership request, it then moves to the General Assembly for approval. A membership request needs a two-thirds majority to be approved by the assembly. A country cannot join the United Nations unless both the Security Council and General Assembly approve.

The 2011 application, launched by Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
, never came before the Security Council for a vote, and the General Assembly voted to grant the PA observer status in November 2012.

The UN Security Council committee assessed the application for several weeks to see if it satisfied the requirements for UN membership. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the committee was unable to reach a unanimous position and the Security Council never formally voted on a resolution on Paleostinian membership.

Diplomats said the Paleostinians lacked the minimum nine votes needed to adopt a resolution. Even if they had won enough support, the United States had said it would veto the move.

Observers believe the current Paleostinian push for membership is unlikely to reach the assembly as the United States, Israel’s closest ally, could use its Security Council veto power to derail the recommendation.

The League of Arab States, the Organization of the Islamic Conference
OIC is an international organisation with a permanent delegation to the UN, with 57 member states. It represents all countries with substantial Moslem populations (as opposed to the Arab League, which excludes members not of the Master Race) except those which member countries block from joining. These include India, which has more Mohammedans than does Pakistain, whose membership is vetoed by Pakistain...
, and the Non-Aligned Movement sent a letter to Guterres on Tuesday, also seen by AFP, supporting the bid by the PA.

"We wish to bring to your attention that, as of this date, 140 Member States have recognized the state of Paleostine," said the joint letter, which included a list of those countries.

Little progress has been made in achieving Paleostinian statehood since the signing of the Oslo Accords between Israel and the PA in the early 1990s. Among the obstacles are persistent Paleostinian terrorism and incitement against the Jewish state, along with expanding Israeli settlements.

The PA exercises limited self-rule in the West Bank and is Israel’s partner in the Oslo Accords. Hamas in 2007 ousted the Paleostinian Authority from power in the Gaza Strip.

US signals opposition to renewed Palestinian bid for statehood status at UN

[IsraelTimes] State Department says Palestinian state should be established ‘through direct negotiations… not at the United Nations,’ as PLO envoy seeks vote later this month.

Saudi halts $3 bn in aid to Lebanon army
2016-02-20
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
said Friday it has stopped a $3 billion program for military supplies to Leb in protest against Hezbollah, the Shiite holy warrior group fighting in support of Syria's regime.

In response, Leb's PM Tammam Salam urged Saudi to reconsider the suspension of the package.

In light of positions taken by Hezbollah the kingdom proceeded to "a total evaluation of its relations with the Lebanese republic", an unnamed official told the Saudi Press Agency earlier.

The kingdom's loyal Gulf allies, the UAE and Bahrain, expressed support for Saudi's decision.

Saudi added that the remainder of a $1 billion financing package for Lebanese security forces had been suspended, in a separate decision.

The $3 billion program financed military equipment provided by La Belle France.

Leb received the first tranche of weapons designed to bolster its army against miliatnt threats, including anti-tank guided missiles, in April last year but the program then reportedly ran into obstacles.

Alleged leaders of Leb-based Hezbollah are under sanction by Saudi Arabia.

Hezbollah is supported by Iran.

In the statement, the Saudi official said Riyadh had always stood with Leb and supported the country through difficult times.

"Despite these honourable stands, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia had been met with Lebanese stands that are against it on Arab, regional and international arenas, in the shadow of the confiscation of the will of the state by the so-called Lebanese Hezbollah," the statement said.

Hezbollah is the Iranian-backed Shi'ite Muslim group that wields major power in Leb. Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia is the arch-regional rival of Shi'ite Iran.

The SPA statement said Leb, at recent meetings of the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...

It was referring to an attack by Iranian demonstrators protesting over the execution by Riyadh of a Saudi Shiite convicted of incitement to violence.

Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran over the attacks on its missions.
Update from An Nahar at 7:30 a.m. ET:
Turkey Willing to Provide $1.1 Million Military Aid to Lebanon

Following the halt of a Saudi program to fund aid to the Lebanese army, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
expressed willingness to provide Leb with military aid worth $1.1 million, the National News Agency said.

Turkish ambassador to Leb Cagatay Erciyes told Defense Minister Samir Moqbel that his country is ready to "continue to support Leb and its army," NNA said.

"The Turkish government has decided to provide military aid worth $ 1.1 million to meet the needs of the Lebanese army, and to include Leb within a program to provide military aid to foreign militaries," the ambassador pointed.
From whom will Turkey get a loan to cover the $1.1 million they so grandly talk of giving away? Not Saudi Arabia, one assumes. China, perhaps? Or has Turkey's economy suddenly started growing?

Report: Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood Infiltrated Obama Admin
2013-01-11
[Arutz Sheva] Egyptian magazine claims that six Islamist activists who work with Obama are Moslem Brüderbund operatives.

An Egyptian magazine has claimed that six American Islamist activists who work with the B.O. regime are Moslem Brüderbund operatives who enjoy strong influence over U.S. policy.

The December 22 story was published in Egypt's Rose El-Youssef magazine and was translated into English for the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT).
That's Islamo-terror expert Steven Emerson's little project -- he's the one NPR blacklisted at the request of the American Arab Action Network.
The story suggests the six turned the White House "from a position hostile to Islamic groups and organizations in the world to the largest and most important supporter of the Moslem Brüderbund."

The story is largely unsourced, but its publication is considered significant in raising the issue to Egyptian readers, IPT said.
Egyptians also firmly believe they won the Yom Kippur War, and that Mossad has sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads cruising off Sharm el Sheikh, so their belief is not necessarily a confirmatory datum.
The six named people include: Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy development; Mohammed Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council; Rashad Hussain, the U.S. special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference
OIC is an international organisation with a permanent delegation to the UN, with 57 member states. It represents all countries with substantial Moslem populations (as opposed to the Arab League, which excludes members not of the Master Race) except those which member countries block from joining. These include India, which has more Mohammedans than does Pakistain, whose membership is vetoed by Pakistain...
; Salam al-Marayati, co-founder of the Mohammedan Public Affairs Council (MPAC); Imam Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA); and Eboo Patel, a member of President B.O.'s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.

Alikhan is a founder of the World Islamic Organization, which the magazine identifies as a Brotherhood "subsidiary." It suggests that Alikhan was responsible for the "file of Islamic states" in the White House and that he provides the direct link between the B.O. regime and the Arab Spring revolutions of 2011.

Elibiary, who has endorsed the ideas of radical Moslem Brüderbund luminary Sayyid Qutb, may have leaked secret materials contained in Department of Homeland Security databases, according to the magazine. He, however, denies having any connection with the Brotherhood.

Elibiary also played a role in defining the B.O. regime's counterterrorism strategy, and the magazine asserted that he wrote the speech Obama gave when he told former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
to leave power but offers no source or evidence for the claim.

According to Rose El-Youssef, Rashad Hussain maintained close ties with people and groups that it says comprise the Moslem Brüderbund network in America. This includes his participation in the June 2002 annual conference of the American Mohammedan Council, formerly headed by convicted terrorist financier Abdurahman Alamoudi.

He also participated in the organizing committee of the Critical Islamic Reflection along with important figures of the American Moslem Brüderbund such as Jamal Barzinji, Hisham al-Talib and Yaqub Mirza.

Regarding al-Marayati, who has been among the most influential Mohammedan American leaders in recent years, the magazine draws connections between MPAC in the international Moslem Brüderbund infrastructure.

Magid heads ISNA, which was founded by Brotherhood members, was appointed by Obama in 2011 as an adviser to the Department of Homeland Security. The magazine says that has also given speeches and conferences on American Middle East policy at the State Department and offered advice to the FBI.

Rose El-Youssef also said that Patel maintains a close relationship with Hani Ramadan, the grandson of Brotherhood founder Hasan al-Banna, and is a member of the Mohammedan Students Association, which it identifies as "a large Brotherhood organization."

Despite the fact that the Moslem Brüderbund regime in Egypt was voted into power on an anti-U.S. and anti-Israel platform, it is about to receive 20 F-16 fighter jets from the U.S.

The jets were ordered by Mubarak, but the Moslem Brüderbund will take over the inheritance.

The B.O. regime has also indicated its willingness to help Egypt relieve $1 billion of its debt, as part of an American and international assistance package intended to bolster its transition to democracy.

A video released last week showed that in 2010, current Islamist President Mohammed Morsi called to boycott products made in the United States because of its support for Israel. At the time he also rejected negotiations between Israel and the Paleostinian Authority and referred to Jews as "apes and pigs".

Previously exposed videos show that during his election campaign, Morsi reiterated that "Jihad is our path" and "the Koran is our constitution".

Sheikh Mohammed Badie, the supreme guide of the Moslem Brüderbund and the person who some say is the true president of Egypt, has called for a jihad (holy war) to liberate Jerusalem from Israeli rule.
Better men then you have tried, and failed dismally, my dear Sheikh. But the world would not be unhappy if your lot committed suicide-by-Jew.

Benghazi bungle an attempt to advance Islam?
2012-12-06
The Obama administration may be trying to use the al-Qaida terror attacks on U.S. operations in Benghazi, Libya, to advance a growing global movement to protect Islam from criticism, according to one expert.

The issue is the “defamation of religions” resolution pending at the United Nations. It was introduced by Islamic nations and coalitions to criminalize any negative reference to Islam or Muslims.

Clare Lopez, a strategic policy and intelligence expert with a focus on the Middle East, national defense, WMD, and counterterrorism, said that after the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, the Obama administration made an impromptu decision to advance the Islamic agenda item it already had endorsed.

“The Obama administration, and especially the Department of State led by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are coordinating closely with the [Organization of the Islamic Conference] to achieve implementation of U.N. Human Rights Commission Resolution 16/18, which despite some cosmetic wording changes, remains the vehicle through which the OIC is determined to work toward the criminalization of the criticism of Islam in U.S. law,” she said.

She also has specific areas of expertise in Iraq and Iran, having spent 20 years with the CIA. Now a private consultant, she is vice president of The Intelligence Summit and is professor at the Center for Counterintelligence and Security Studies.

Hizbullah on Film Offensive to Islam: Laws Must Be Issued to Incriminate such Acts
2012-09-13
[An Nahar] Hizbullah slammed on Wednesday the film, "Innocence of Mohammedans", that has been deemed offensive to Islam, accusing Jewish and bad boy Egyptian Christian Coptic powers of funding it.
If they'd have asked me for a few hundred I'd have kicked in, if I'd had it...
It demanded in a statement that laws be issued in order to incriminate such acts similar to laws that condemn antisemitism.
"Yeah. You need Blasphemy Laws. Like they have in Pakistain."
"The screening in the United States of a film that is offensive to Prophet Mohammed is immoral and is of the greatest acts of aggression against human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
that call for the respect of freedom of belief," it added.
They haven't caught on to the fact that there are many of us -- and I suspect that the number is growing despite the pablum dribbled by Mr. O'Bean -- sincerely believe, based on empirical evidence, that Islam is a religion that condones and encourages and rewards violence.
The part said: "The film is a suspicious act aimed at fueling the fires of hate and increase tensions between Mohammedans and Copts in Egypt in order to drag them towards strife."
Or it could be a wake-up call to any dumbshitz who haven't yet caught on, after eleven years of open aggression punctuated by head-choppings...
"The screening is the true reflection of the Zionist-American alliance against Mohammedans and Islam," noted Hizbullah.
Lemme see, here. Somebody makes a film that sez Moslems are violent folk, ready to put on their masks and kill somebody at the drop of a hat. The response is to put on their masks, take to the streets, and kill a few people. Maybe lotsa people.
"The American statements of condemnation no longer fool anyone," it stressed.
Condemnation of the movie? Or the violence?
It questioned the silence of the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
and Organization of the Islamic Conference
OIC is an international organisation with a permanent delegation to the UN, with 57 member states. over the affair.
As long as their bitching and moaning is verbal they've got every right to an opinion. If they decide to kill somebody the film's premise is validated.
The screening of the film sparked outrage and violence in Libya and Egypt.
"My Mask? Where'd I leave my mask?.... Honey! Have you seen my deadly weapon?"
"On the shelf in the closet, dear!"

The low-budget movie, "Innocence of Mohammedans" in which actors have strong American accents, portrays Mohammedans as immoral and gratuitously violent.
They're in the process of reminding the world -- as though it needed reminding again -- that they're gratuitously violent. I'm not sure if the "immoral" part alludes to the widespread buggery among the devout, the murder of Big Mo's heir, or to the age at which the original Big Turban began packing pork to cute little Aisha.
It pokes fun at the Prophet Mohammed and touches on themes of pedophilia and homosexuality, while showing him sleeping with women, talking about killing children and referring to a donkey as "the first Mohammedan animal."
It cultural stuff. We just don't understand. It's all stuff they're proud of, stuff to be emulated, since Big Mo was the Perfect Human Being. But they don't wanna talk about it. And they surely don't want it on film. Or digital media or whatever.
The film was produced by Israeli-American Sam Bacile, according to the Wall Street Journal, but Egyptian media say that some Egyptian Copts living in the U.S. were involved in the production.
They live in the U.S. Unlike people living in Egypt, they can do as they damned well please.
The film is being promoted by controversial Florida pastor Terry Jones, who has drawn protests in the past for burning the Koran and vehemently opposing the construction of a victory mosque near Ground Zero in New York.
Jones is always good for widespread rioting and a few deaders. I'm surprised Hezbollah hasn't sent somebody to bump him off. That's probably an indication he's one of their agents.

IIRO calls for quick relief aid to save millions of Yemenis
2012-07-09
(Saba) - The International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) called on Wednesday all regional and international organizations to quickly provide relief aid to save millions of Yemenis, affected by unrest in some regions, from poverty, hungry and illness.

"According to UN reports ten million of Yemeni people are suffering from serious malnutrition and food shortages and are now in need of urgent relief assistance especially as more than one million children have become prey to malnutrition," IIRO secretary general Adnan al-Pasha said in a press statement issued today.

Al-Pasha pointed out that according to the reports, half the Yemeni population suffer from potable water shortages as well as poor sewerage systems.

The dramatic situation in Yemeni has also caused great suffering in terms of lack of medical services and medications. Hospitals and dispensaries halted their medical services completely that resulted in large numbers of fatalities.

The reports also showed that half a million Yemeni citizens have abandoned their homes fleeing from unrests and numerous villages have been depopulated altogether, al-Pasha said.

He called all humanitarian organizations to join the efforts in order to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people.

U.N. Probe: Syrian Forces Guilty of 'Crimes against Humanity'
2011-11-29
[An Nahar] Syria's military and security forces have committed crimes against humanity in their deadly crackdown on anti-regime protesters, U.N.-appointed Sherlocks said on Monday.

State forces have murdered, raped and tortured demonstrators since the beginning of protests in March this year, according to evidence gathered by the Independent Commission of Inquiry on Syria.

The panel interviewed 223 victims and witnesses, among them security force defectors, who told of shoot to kill orders to crush demonstrators and cases of children being tortured to death.

"The commission is gravely concerned that crimes against humanity have been committed in different locations in the Syrian Arab Republic during the period under review," it said in its report, while concluding that military and security forces were behind the acts.

"The sheer scale and consistent pattern of attacks by military and security forces on civilians and civilian neighborhoods and the widespread destruction of property could only be possible with the approval or complicity of the State," the panel said.

Defectors from military and security forces told the commission that they received orders to shoot at unarmed protesters without warning.

They, together with militias, had conducted joint operations with "shoot to kill" orders, notably in Latakia in early April and in a suburb of the city in August.

"The protesters called for freedom. They carried olive branches and marched with their children," a witness was quoted as saying.

"We were ordered to either disperse the crowd or eliminate everybody, including children. We opened fire."

The panel heard of sniper attacks on people leading marches and on those trying to rescue the maimed.

Torture and killings reportedly took place in the Homs Military Hospital by security forces dressed as doctors and abuse of detainees was described as "rampant" at the detention facilities of the Air Force Intelligence Branch at Mazzeh airport near Damascus
...Capital of the last overtly fascist regime in the world...

The report highlighted the case of 14-year-old detainee Thamir al-Sharee from the town of Sayda whose postmortem showed injuries consistent with torture.

A 40-year-old man told the panel he witnessed the rape of an 11-year-old boy by three security services officers.

The commission said Syria had violated the right to life, to peaceful assembly and to freedom of movement among others.

It called on the government to put an "immediate end to gross human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
violations" and launch an independent investigation into the violence.

The report also acknowledged the existence of the "Free Syrian Army," a group of defectors it said had grabbed credit for armed attacks against military and security forces and in its list of recommendations the panel urged opposition groups to respect international human rights law.

The Human Rights Council set up the commission in August to investigate human rights violations in Syria where the U.N. estimates at least 3,500 people have been killed.

The panel met with regional organizations including the Organization of the Islamic Conference

as it gathered evidence from the end of September to the middle of November but was not allowed to carry out its work inside Syria.

The council will study the report by the three experts, Karen Koning AbuZayd from the United States, Turk Yakin Erturk and Paulo Sergio Pinheiro from Brazil, at its 19th session taking place in March.

Hussein Obama to Advance Genocide of Jews and Christians
2011-08-16
In the decades since the world first pledged “never again,” the U.S. response to mass atrocities and genocide has confronted several challenges. First, governmental engagement on atrocities and genocide often arrives late, when opportunities for prevention have been missed. Second, senior decision-makers are often not personally engaged because there is a government-wide assumption that there is little that can or will be done. And third, too few other international players step up to try to prevent atrocities, and come under little domestic pressure to do so. As a result, too often, we and the rest of the international community have later regretted not taking diplomatic, political, economic, legal, and military steps that might have prevented the loss of tens of thousands of lives. In 2008 the Genocide Prevention Task Force, co-chaired by former Secretaries Madeleine K. Albright and William Cohen, found that preventing genocide was an “achievable goal” but one that required a degree of governmental organization that matches the kind of methodical organization that accompanies mass-killings. Obama has done more than any other President to put people in jeopardy of Genocide. This farce is yet another scheme to advance Islamonazi Genocide against Israel, and its Jewish and Christian minorities. In September, the US will support a UN resolution that will enable force to be used against Israeli troops within the "West Bank" lands, after the "Palestinian Authority" gets statehood. The same elements who have coerced exile of 2,000,000 Christians since the Partition - which they reject - seek an advance base on Israel's borders which will enable "final jihad," with its component: Genocide of all Jews, Christians and non-Muslim Arabs in Israel. And, the US military will be expected to use force to prevent Israeli defense in the West Bank.

This week, President Obama directed a comprehensive review to strengthen the United States’ ability to prevent mass atrocities. The President’s directive states plainly that: “Preventing mass atrocities and genocide is a core national security interest and a core moral responsibility of the United States of America.” The directive creates an important new tool in this effort, establishing a standing interagency Atrocities Prevention Board with the authority to develop prevention strategies and to ensure that concerns are elevated for senior decision-making so that we are better able to work with our allies and partners to be responsive to early warning signs and prevent potential atrocities. This bureacracy should be seen as an appendage of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, which recognizes "territorial integrity" where minorities in a Muslim majority tyranny seek statehood, and "self determination" where Muslim minorities seek the same thing. Obama operates on exactly the same principle. He has never said a single word in defense of the millions of Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, etc who face Genocide on a daily basis. To the contrary, both diplomats from Islamic terror states and terror movements, attended his recent White House "iftar" (ramadan post fast, which largely celebrates the ramadan slaughter of non-Muslims in the Badr-Massacre). Reminder: BHO is the son of a Muslim child abandoner. He is or was a member of a pan-religious "church" - "Christian" for tax purposes - which gave its highest award to the notorious Muslim supremacist, and racist, Lewis Farrakhan, who believes that inter-planetary Muslims will soon destroy "white governments" leading to 5,000 years of Black Muslim rule.

Turkey’s Erdogan to visit Somalia
2011-08-11
ANKARA: Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday he would visit famine-hit Somalia along with his family in the coming days as part of an effort to draw international attention to the East African country’s plight.

“It is impossible for us to be spectators to the human tragedy in Africa,” Erdogan said.

“My foreign minister and I will visit Somalia with our families. So, we will get a chance to see the situation there,” Erdogan told a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara.

The last leader to visit was Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in November last year. His army contributes more than half of a 9,000-strong African Union peacekeeping force propping up the government. But no one from outside Africa has been for a very long time.

Istanbul will host a meeting on Aug. 17 of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference aimed at galvanising support for Somalia and drought-struck neighboring regions. The meeting, which comes during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, was proposed by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Turkey sent two cargo planes laden with 50 tons of food and medical supplies to Somalia on Monday and the Turkish Red Crescent is working with the government’s development agency and Office of Religious Affairs to raise donations from the public.

Clinton: Islam, West can agree on tolerance
2011-07-15
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday she's hopeful that a religious tolerance agreement between the West and Islamic countries will end efforts to criminalize blasphemy that threaten freedom of expression.

At an interfaith conference in Turkey, Clinton said an initiative by the U.S., the European Union and the Organization of the Islamic Conference will promote religious freedom without compromising free speech.

"Together we have begun to overcome the false divide that pits religious sensitivities against freedom of expression and we are pursuing a new approach," Clinton said. "These are fundamental freedoms that belong to all people in all places and they are certainly essential to democracy."

Many Muslim nations have laws that punish perceived insults to Islam. As a way to rationalize those laws, those countries have long sought U.N. action condemning the defamation of religion.

OIC sends team to know ground reality in Libya
2011-06-23
JEDDAH: The Organization of the Islamic Conference said Wednesday it has sent a delegation to Libya to pave the way for mediation by the group to resolve the crisis in the North African state.
There now, that should do it.
Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu "dispatched a high-level political delegation to Libya to get to know the reality on the ground and developments taking place," a statement by the organization said.

The mission, led by the head of the OIC's political department, Mahdi Fathalla, will hold "consultations with the concerned parties in Libya and discuss some ideas on the Libyan issue which the OIC secretary-general had already discussed with the Europeans during his recent European tour," it said. The delegation will meet officials in Tripoli and members of the National Transitional Council in Benghazi.

In a letter (sent from Jeddah) written to Kashmiri separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Thsanoglu had described Kashmire as an occupied territory. During the past six decades, Kashmire has been a cause of three wars between India and Pakistain. Thsanoglu's assertion assumes significance even as it came ahead of the resumption of composite dialogue between the two sides later this week.

Thsanoglu's letter also carried an invitation to Mirwaiz to attend an OIC meeting in Kazakhstan. Mirwaiz is the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a separatist organization.

Addressing media persons in New Delhi, a front man of India's External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday said "We have seen reports that the OIC has again chosen to refer to Jammu and Kashmire incorrectly. This is most regrettable".

He added "The state of Jammu and Kashmire is an integral part of India. We totally reject any reference or description to the contrary".

, with 57 member states. It attempts to be the collective voice of the Mohammedan world (Ummah) and attempts to safeguard the interests and ensure the progress and well-being of Mohammedans.

This reference of Kashmire as an 'occupied territory' comes just a day after Mirwaiz demanded inclusion of genuine Kashmiri leadership in the dialogue process between Pakistain and India for bringing about a permanent settlement to the Kashmire dispute.
