Four terrorist organizations boosted their online activity between April and November 2021, Saudi center says
2021-12-21
[Shafaq News] The Saudi-based Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology, Etidal, said it has monitored growing online activity for the terrorist organizations of ISIS, al-Qaeda, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
, Boko Haram
...Nigeerian Islamist group, formerly paying homage to al-Qaeda, then, when the money ran out, to the Islamic State, and headed by nutcase Abu Bakr Shekau. Once he exploded in a gunfight with ISWAP, many in the group surrendered to the govt and others went with their new overlords. The remainder are a shell of their former selves, stmbling glassy-eyed and lonely through the Sambisa Forest and the soothing waters of Lake Chad, asking themselves What is truth?, or maybe just I wonder what's for dinner? I hope it's not rhinocerous again! ...
via 1958 accounts on social media platforms.

Between April and November of the current year, Etidal marked 782 "primary" accounts affiliated with those terrorist organizations, 42 of which were reactivated. The Saudi-based center also detected 934 active sympathizer accounts, 499 of which were dormant before this period and 242 were new.

Etidal said that 785 al-Qaeda accounts spawned on the same digital platform between April and November; 344 accounts were active in Pashto, 310 in Arabic, 102 in Urdu, and 29 in other languages.

The center deemed this activity an attempt by the terrorist organization to restore its image (in the first place), disseminate its ideology, and recruit new members.

Etidal said that 843 accounts were affiliated with the terrorist "Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham" in the list of accounts under scrutiny, including 706 accounts in Arabic, and 137 accounts in other languages, which reflects the organization's interest in Syria.

ISIS has activated 305 accounts, 241 of which were in Arabic, 20 in Urdu, nine in Persian, eight in Ottoman Turkish, seven in English, and 20 accounts in different languages.

In Africa, Etidal monitored 25 accounts affiliated with the terrorist "Boko Haram" organization. It was remarkable that the majority of those accounts, 15, shared Arabic content, while only four accounts used local Somali languages. The remaining accounts were active in Urdu (2) and English (4).

Police arrest head of Islamic Commission of Spain
2021-03-25
[AA.TR] Aiman Adlbi, president of the Islamic Commission of Spain, was detained on Tuesday night in Tenerife, police told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday. The Islamic Commission is the highest level Moslem organization in Spain, acting as a liaison with the Spanish government and overseeing religious education and religious services in the country.

Spain’s National Police said that Adlbi was released after questioning and charges were brought against him.

The police spokesperson was unable to comment further, as the investigation remains open, but local media reported that the arrest was related to the funding of terror groups in Syria and the Middle East.
Oh? Fascinating.
Adlbi, a 74-year-old doctor from Syria, was elected president of the commission last summer, after the former head, Riay Tatary, died of COVID-19.
Ay Pee adds:
The arrest is connected to a 2019 judicial investigation that resulted in the arrests of at least 10 people - nine Spaniards and a Syrian national - who were accused of funding alleged bully boy operations in Syria and other conflict zones.

The Islamic Commission of Spain didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Shiite cleric seeks France asylum after death threats over Auschwitz visit
2020-02-05
[Jpost] Sheikh Mohamad Ali El Husseini was one of two dozen Moslem holy mans who participated in the visit to Auschwitz, together with representatives from the Moslem World League, organized by the AJC.

A Lebanese Shi’ite holy man who participated in a delegation of Moslem leaders to Auschwitz ahead of the 75th anniversary of its liberation last month is seeking asylum in La Belle France due to deaths threats against him.

Sheikh Mohamad Ali El Husseini was one of about two dozen Moslem holy mans who participated in the visit to Auschwitz, together with representatives from the Moslem World League, organized by the American Jewish Committee.

During the visit, El Husseini was the subject of death threats on social media, and criminal complaints were filed against him for "meeting with Israeli agents." He said this was done with the backing of Hezbollah for having violated Lebanese laws banning contact with Israeli officials.

No Israeli officials were on the AJC delegation.

El Husseini is an outspoken critic of Hezbollah and accuses it of advancing Iranian interests at the expense of the Lebanese state and people.

He has called for Moslem-Jewish reconciliation and posted messages in Hebrew on his Facebook page for the marginalization of religious texts endorsing violence.

After the three-day visit to Poland, El Husseini decided not to return to Leb, fearing for his life.
"Have you seen it? That place is f*&ked up!"
The AJC and Polish Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich helped put El Husseini in contact with the French ambassador to Poland. Following the end of the trip, El Husseini flew to La Belle France, where he is currently residing.

El Husseini is in the process of requesting asylum in La Belle France on the basis of the threats to his life.

The AJC’s Rabbi David Rosen said the organization would do everything it can to help him, including submitting a recommendation to the French authorities on his behalf.

"Mohamad Husseini is an example of courageous integrity, which is actually slowly but surely increasing in the Arab world despite the dangers, as witnessed by the Auschwitz visit," he said.

"This story also highlights the fact that elements in the Moslem world continue to score their own goals by presenting Islam as hostile to respecting others and to acknowledging abhorrent tragedies, and they do not do the image of Islam or Arab communities any good," Rosen said.

The AJC said that Al-Issa led a delegation of 62 Muslims, including 25 prominent religious leaders, from some 28 countries.

Robert Satloff, executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said that Issa has had a moderating effect on the Muslim World League, which once propagated “a virulent strain of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic writing, thinking and preaching.”

Under Issa’s leadership, Satloff said, the organization has shifted its approach to curb hardliners and reach out to other faiths.

Saudi Grand Mufti Lauds MWL Efforts on Preserving Islamic Unity
2018-09-03
[Asharq Al-Awsat] Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh praised on Saturday efforts by the Muslim World League>Muslim World League (MWL) on unifying Muslims worldwide, advocating on their behalf, and ensuring their protection, further confirming the league’s undying efforts and great achievements.

“The Muslim World League is performing its role to carry out the Islamic halal slaughter, by making sure animals are slaughtered according to halal standards and trusted mechanisms,” he said.

For its part, the MWL reaffirmed its commitment to implementing premium standards of halal slaughter and continuing to fully adhere to regulations and standards set by the GCC Standardization Organization when issuing halal certificates.

MWL recently suspended the certification of a number of slaughterhouses and relevant companies around the world for violating guides to producing halal meat.

A royal decree gave the MWL sole responsibility for issuing halal certificates, in recognition of its expertise in coordinating and cooperating with local and international bodies and having met Islamic requirements for producing, manufacturing and marketing halal products.

The Supreme Council of Scholars issued a fatwa stating that the only authority responsible for slaughtered halal imports is the MWL, given that with over three decades of experience and partners and offices worldwide, the MWL is the oldest and most efficient Islamic organization working the field of halal foods manufacture.

The MWL works on finalizing the globally largest center for halal production within its headquarters in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

MWL’s functions include supervising the slaughter and production of halal goods, and issuing Halal approved certificates, whether directly or indirectly via recognized offices and representatives abroad.

The center also issues certificates for selling halal goods, provides technical and Islamic consultancy services, introducing businesses to halal food.

German state orders crosses mounted in government buildings

Germany requests border control extension for Austrian frontier
12.04.2018
[DW] Germany's interior minister has defended a request to continue checks by accusing the EU of failing to protect its external borders. Germany is one of six countries that reimposed controls in the visa-free Schengen zone.

Other Schengen countries have imposed temporary border controls, including France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The latest round of temporary German measures was set to expire in May. The controls are limited to three-month extensions, although some EU member states are looking to change that.

Syrian refugees leaving Germany over family reunification policy
12.04.2018
[DW] Thousands of Syrians granted limited asylum but denied the right to fetch relatives are departing Germany for Turkey by using smugglers, say German media. The cases, if confirmed, bizarrely reverse the "Balkan route" drama of 2015.

The journey, now in reverse, retraces the same risky routes they used from the outset of Syria's six-year war, reported "Panorama," a Hamburg-based investigative program and its offshoot channel Strg_F.

One smuggler told reporters he was guiding 50 individuals, mostly Syrians with right of residency in Germany, from EU member Greece into Turkey across the border river Evros to be reunited with family members in a Turkish refuge. The crossing cost about 200 euros ($247), he said.

Top EU court strengthens family reunifications for young refugees
12.04.2018
[DW] The ECJ has ruled that refugee minors have a right to family reunifications, even if they turn 18 during the application process. The case could have a major impact on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government.

The court's decision will likely ramp up tensions within German Chancellor Angela Merkel's government as the conservative Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Social Democrats (SPD) butt heads over family reunifications for refugees. CSU party head and Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has been portraying himself as an immigration and refugee hardliner. His rhetoric has led to fears within the SPD that he may turn back on a coalition deal to allow a maximum 1,000 people per month to arrive in Germany for family reunifications.

Saudi Arabia, Malaysia to establish ‘King Salman Center for Global Peace' (2017)
2018-02-27
[Arab News] RIYADH: Wide-ranging talks in Kuala Lumpur between Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak have stressed the need to find solutions to the crises in Syria and Yemen, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The two countries also announced the establishment of an international center for peace and harmony that will carry the name "King Salman Center for Global Peace."

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the two countries reiterated the urgent need to find solutions to the conflicts in the Middle East, and expressed concern over "the growing Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries."

The joint statement covers political, commercial and cultural issues that were discussed during King Salman's four-day visit to Malaysia.

Regarding the proposed King Salman Center for Global Peace in Malaysia, the statement named the stakeholders in the project, which are: The Saudi Ministry of Defense, the Center for Security and Defense at the Malaysian Ministry of Defense, the Malaysian University of Islamic Sciences and the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL).

"These bodies shall coordinate to complete the necessary arrangements to implement the launch of the center within 90 days from the date of its announcement," said the statement.

The statement also said that Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have identical views on key issues in the Middle East region.

"Within the constructive spirit that prevailed at the meetings between the two sides, the two leaders reviewed political issues in the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian cause, and stressed the importance and need to achieve a lasting, comprehensive and just solution, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN resolutions," the statement said.

The two sides also reaffirmed the need to "find a solution to the Syrian crisis on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the importance of providing humanitarian assistance and relief to Syrian refugees in Syria and abroad."

The two sides also stressed the importance of maintaining the unity of Yemen, and of achieving its security and stability, as well as the importance of coming up with a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, based on the Gulf initiative, outputs of the Yemeni national dialogue and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

The statement said that the Kingdom and Malaysia "lend all support to the legitimate authority in Yemen, and to the efforts exerted in this regard, as well as facilitating access of aid to all regions of Yemen."

The two countries expressed deep concern about Iranian interference in the internal affairs of countries in the region, emphasizing "the need for Iran to commit to the principle of good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty of states."

In the field of defense cooperation, the statement said: "The two sides agreed to strengthen military cooperation, develop training and joint exercises and exchange military experience."

The Kingdom and Malaysia have been on the same page over the need to address common security issues, including those posed by Daesh and other terrorist groups.

Malaysia and Saudi Arabia share a strong commitment to countering extremist ideologies and misconceptions about Islam, which are contrary to the moderate and peaceful nature of this world religion.

Germany needs to respond to state-sponsored Salafism, experts say
2016-12-25
[DeutscheWelle] Policy toward Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
may have to change after an intelligence report found that the Saudi government directly supports fundamentalist Islamic groups in Germany. One focus could be arms sales to Riyadh.

.
Berlin's relations with some of its main partners in the Middle East were under critical scrutiny on Tuesday after a leaked intelligence report linked the governments of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
with Salafist movements in Germany.
The intelligence reports named three organizations sending preachers and building schools and mosques: the Shaykh Eid Charity Foundation from Qatar, the Muslim World League from Saudi Arabia, and the Revival of Islamic Heritage Society (RIHS) from Kuwait. RIHS was banned in the U.S. in 2008; Germany banned the Salafist "True Religion" group in November.
It has long been suspected that states in the Middle East support the missionary efforts of Islamic fundamentalists. This report, carried out by Germany's domestic and foreign spy agencies on behalf of the German government, is noteworthy in that it names three Salafist organizations it says are "closely connected with government offices in their home countries." The report added that "global proselytizing" remains part of Saudia Arabia's "reason of state" and an integral part of Saudi foreign policy. The report predicts that Salafist organizations will "continue to expand their activities in Europe and Germany."

Germany's foreign intelligence agency, the BND, declined to confirm the accuracy of the leaked excerpts or give any further details from the report, saying that it only provided information to the government. But experts say that the warning about state-sponsored Salafism should be taken seriously.

"I think these reports are credible," Sebastian Sons from the think tank German Council on Foreign Relations told Deutsche Welle. "It's well known that for decades Saudi Arabia has been launching missionary initiatives throughout the world, both by using private foundations and by sending clergymen abroad. Saudi Arabia wants to present itself as the leader of the Sunni Islamic world."

The report says that it's impossible to distinguish between missionary work and support for jihadist violence in one of the organizations, the Kuwaiti Revival of Islamic Heritage Society. The latest estimates put the number of Salafists
...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them...
in Germany at slightly below 10,000 - politicians agree that they represent a potential risk.

"The danger is real and shouldn't be underestimated," says Social Democratic Member of Parliament and Middle East expert Rolf Mutzenich. "For quite some time we've had indications and evidence that German Salafists are getting assistance, which is approved by the governments of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, in the form of money, the sending of imams and the building of Koran schools and mosques."

And there's one group some observers fear could be particularly susceptible to radicalization:

Worries about refugees
Germany took in some 900,000 refugees from crisis regions, most prominently Syria, in 2015, and if significant numbers of them grow frustrated, they could represent potentially fertile ground for Islamic fundamentalism. Insiders say that Syrian refugees are sometimes surprised at how conservatively Islam is interpreted by some imams in Germany.

"The danger exists, and we need to vigorously counteract it," Mutzenich told Deutsche Welle. "The best way of preventing refugees from being radicalized is speedy and successful integration. To achieve that we need professional prevention and de-radicalization programs. Concretely that means more money and resources for specialists in schools, government administration, police, youth welfare organizations, prisons and reform schools."

The Saudi Arabian royal family has been allied with Wahhabism, the Saudi form of Salafism, since the late 18th century. But although the German intelligence report concludes that support for missionary movements is part of a long-term foreign policy strategy of Saudi Arabia, Sons doesn't think that Riyadh particularly has its sights set on Germany.

"While we shouldn't underestimate the Saudi influence, I don't believe that Germany is the primary target of Wahhabist proselytizing," the Middle East expert said. "In the past that was always the Islamic world, in Asia, in the Balkans and in Africa. And I think those are the areas where this will prove increasingly relevant in the future."

The BND, however, has been tracking what it calls growing Saudi "interventionism" since the beginning of the year. And the leaked report is increasing pressure on the German government to counteract it.

A well-timed leak
Berlin has never been keen about attempts from within Saudi Arabia to promote Islamic fundamentalism in Germany, and many people object to Germany providing weapons to Middle East allies with questionable records on democracy and human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
Could the two issues become linked in the wake of the leaked report?

"The German government and the Foreign Ministry have called upon the governments in question to stop their support [for German salafist
...also known as Wahhabis, salafists are against innovation in religion or in anything else. They eat the same things every meal of every day and all their children are named Abdullah or Mohammed. Not all salafists are takfiris, but all takfiris are salafists. They are fond of praying five times a day and killing infidels...
s]," Mutzenich says. "In this context, the concrete question arises as to whether we should keep supplying arms to these countries and other crisis regions. I think the German government should send a clear signal."

Indeed, sources within the security community, who asked not to be named, think that the timing of the leak may be anything but accidental. Opposition to Germany providing Saudi Arabia with weapons seems to be growing within the intelligence community, and perhaps releasing parts of the report is an attempt to force the hand of politicians in Berlin.

Sons, too, thinks the time may have come for an arms embargo.

"The government has to show that it has a clear strategy for how to deal with a difficult partner like Saudi Arabia," Sons says. "In my eyes, weapons shipments should be off the table. And on state visits, it's important to raise the topics of human rights and Wahhabist proselytizing."

All the same, there is little chance that Berlin will risk complete estrangement from a powerful ally in the Middle East.

"We can't forget that Saudi Arabia is the most important Arab force in the region," Sons added. "There's no way we can do without this country, whether we like it or not."

Terror Networks
Just a bit about Huma Abedin's Mooslim World League from Joe Klein
2016-08-23
[Front Page] The 28 classified pages of the “Congressional Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001” (“Report”) have been finally de-classified and released, with some redactions, to the public. The material in these pages points to evidence of connections between Saudi individuals and groups affiliated in some way with the Saudi government or its funded entities and terrorist organizations. Individuals named in the Report include Omar Al-Bayoumi, Osama Bassnan, Shakyh al-Thumiary, Saleh Hussayen and Osama Bin Laden’s half-brother Abdullah Bin Laden. The Report also mentions groups such as the World Arab Muslim Youth Association (WAMY), based in Saudi Arabia, which the FBI believes is ‘closely associated with funding and financing of international terrorist activities.”

The information in the Report details the activities of these Saudi individuals and related groups, including in the United States. There is a network of links to Saudi government entities, Saudi-funded front groups espousing radical Islam and jihad on the Wahhabist model, and terrorist organizations or individuals. A study of organizations in this network, with the Saudi government agencies or front groups at its hub, is very instructive in itself. But it reveals something else, highly relevant to this year’s presidential election. There are direct links of Islamic organizations in the network to those to which Hillary Clinton’s top aide and confidante Huma Abedin has belonged. To be clear, Huma Abedin is not named in the Report. However, her associations with groups linked to what is referenced in the Report is highly troubling, to say the least.

The Muslim Student Association was founded by members of the Muslim Brotherhood. It spreads radical Islamist propaganda. FrontPage Magazine has documented the MSA’s indoctrination activities on U.S. campuses in an essay entitled “The Muslim Students Association and the Jihad Network.” The MSA has had close ties with the Muslim World League (MWL), an organization with ties to jihadist terrorist groups, including Hamas and al Qaeda. MWL was founded by members of the Saudi government. The MSA also has close ties with WAMY, one of the organizations mentioned specifically in the Report and which is the youth wing of the Muslim World League. The Report referenced the FBI’s account of the connections of Osama bin Laden’s half-brother, Abdullah Bin Laden, to terrorist organizations. Mentioned specifically was the fact that he was “the President and Director of the World Arab Muslim Youth Association (WAMY) and the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Science in America.”

A cable released by WikiLeaks under then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s name stated that, according to intelligence, the Muslim World League and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth “continue to send money overseas and, at times, fund extremism overseas.”
