Six residents of Karachay-Cherkessia accused of involvement in 'At Takfir wal-Hijra'

[KavkazUzel] The prosecution considers Khasin Kabardaev, a resident of the Adyge-Khablsky district, to be the organizer of the extremist cell; five more local residents will appear in court as its participants.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, in May 2024, a court in Cherkessk  placed six residents of Karachay-Cherkessia under arrest, suspected of organizing and participating in the activities of the extremist organization "At Takfir wal-Hijra". "At Takfir wal-Hijra" is not popular among residents of the North Caucasus and has not claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks in Russia, analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated  at the time.

The organization "At-Takfir wal-Hijra" (accusation of unbelief and hijra) appeared in Egypt and spread in the North Caucasus, especially in Kabardino-Balkaria in 1997-1998. Supporters of the organization belong to the Salafi movement in Islam and are distinguished by strict demands on co-religionists, according to the "Caucasian Knot" article " Kabardino-Balkaria: On the Path to Disaster. Prerequisites for the Armed Revolt in Nalchik on October 13-14, 2005."
They called themselves Jama'at al-Muslimin (Society of Muslims), but their Egyptian neighbours mockingly called them Excommunication and Exile. Cult-like, they require members to cut off all contact with their families. The introverted Takfir Wal Hijra faction split off from the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt in the 1960s. The extroverted “moderate” faction followed Ayman Al-Zawahiri into Al Qaeda. Takfir Wal Hijra consists of loosely affiliated cells which have committed acts of terror as far afield as Morocco and Holland.
The Adyge-Khabl District Court of Karachay-Cherkessia has accepted for consideration the case of six residents of the republic who were detained in May 2024 on charges of involvement in an extremist religious organization.

The prosecution believes that the organizer of the At Takfir wal-Hijra* cell was Khasin Kabardaev: according to the investigation, he used his knowledge of the Islamic religion and Sharia, as well as his “leadership skills” and authority among members of the Muslim community of Karachay-Cherkessia, to create a division of the banned organization in the republic.

The goal of the cell is said to be the propaganda and dissemination of radical views and ideas of the ideologists of "At Takfir wal-Hijra"* among the Muslims of the republic. According to investigators, the voluntary members of the association were Arsen Aichepshev, Murat Kabardaev, Nazir Koshev, Murat Mulazhev and Mikhail Smadich, who supported the religious views of Khasin Kabardaev, the United Press Service of the Courts of Karachay-Cherkessia reported today on its Telegram channel.

The hearing on the case is scheduled for May 21. The "Caucasian Knot" does not yet have any comments from the accused or their lawyers regarding the prosecution's version of events.

Report: Israel holding talks with Syria on Sharaa regime joining Abraham Accords
2025-05-16
[IsraelTimes] Meeting said held recently in Azerbaijan between IDF Operations Directorate chief, Syrian and Turkish officials; Jerusalem reportedly open to border deal, normalized relations

Israel has been holding secret talks with Syrian officials in recent days, including on the possibility of the new regime joining the Abraham Accords, according to a report Thursday, a day after US President Trump invited new Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to join the accords and normalize ties with Israel.

The talks are being mediated by the United Arab Emirates, Channel 12 news said, also referring to unspecified wider regional moves being advanced by the United Arab Emirates. A Haaretz report, by contrast, said the talks were being mediated by Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
and had been going on for months.

Sharaa confirmed last week that security-related talks were being held through mediators, though he did not comment on potential diplomatic relations.

Channel 12 said one meeting was held in recent days in Azerbaijan, where Israel was represented by the chief of the IDF Operations Directorate, Maj. Gen. Oded Basyuk. He met with representatives from the new Syrian government, with Ottoman Turkish representatives also present, the report said.

Trump on Wednesday urged Sharaa to join the Abraham Accords, as the two leaders met in Riyadh for the first direct talks between leaders of the countries in 25 years.

Trump later told news hounds that Sharaa backs such a move. "I told [Sharaa], I hope you’re going to join [the Abraham Accords] once you’re straightened out, and he said yes," Trump told news hounds aboard Air Force One. "But they have a lot of work to do."

Israel views Trump’s lifting of sanctions on Syria favorably, albeit while maintaining a high level of caution, and isn’t ruling out the possibility of influencing the shaping of the northern border and future relations between the two countries, Channel 12 added.

Israel’s recent views on Syria contrast with its previous position, the report noted, which was to dismiss the prospect of constructive interaction with Sharaa, a former leader in Syria’s local al-Qaeda branch, having been branded a terrorist by Jerusalem.

Now, Channel 12 claimed, Israel does see the possibility of Syria exiting the so-called axis of evil overseen by Iran, and even of it coming under the US aegis. It even views such potential progress as possibly enabling a positive shift in Israel-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

ties, according to the report.

Washington and Gulf countries are seeking to pull Syria away from Iranian influence, the London Times reported earlier this week. Tehran, sworn to Israel’s destruction, propped up the former regime of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

throughout the bloody Syrian civil war.

Turkey, meanwhile, has been growing its footprint in Syria and backed rebel groups aligned with Sharaa during the civil war.

Israel had cautioned against swift recognition of the new government in Syria, expressing deep skepticism about Sharaa — who until recently had a $10 million bounty on his head from the US — after his Islamist-led rebel coalition toppled Assad’s regime in December.

Rooters reported in February that Israel, which has vowed to protect the Syrian Druze, whose coreligionists reside throughout northern Israel, has lobbied the US to keep Syria decentralized and isolated.

Israeli military operations in Syria have persisted since Assad’s ouster, with Israel bombing what it says are military targets tied to the former regime across the country, and ground forces currently stationed in a number of outposts near the border with the Golan Heights.

1941-1944: Explosions on Board: In Memory of Annie Morzova and her Fighting Comrades
2025-05-14
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the V Kontakte page of Great Patriotic War

[VK] ... In the summer of 1943, strange cases of aircraft destruction were noted in enemy aviation operating on the Eastern Front. In loss reports, the cause of the destruction of German aircraft and crews was often indicated by one short phrase "Explosion in der Luft" ("Explosion in the air"). However, it was unclear why the planes exploded. Most of these cases occurred with aircraft flying out on combat missions from the Seshchinsky airfield...

To find small Seshcha on the map, it is more convenient to first find the large city of Bryansk, estimate 90 kilometers northwest, and that's where Seshcha will be. Before the war, Seshcha was a small village with less than 500 residents. But there was a convenient airfield here, built in the late 20s, early 30s.

The airfield was quite large: it could simultaneously accommodate up to 70-80 aircraft. At least before the war, more than 60 high-speed SB-2 bombers of one of the Soviet Air Force regiments were based at this airfield. With the outbreak of the war, the airfield was actively used by Soviet aviation, but not for long: after a month and a half, the front approached Seshcha. Soon the last Soviet aircraft flew away from Seshcha, and the airfield became empty. Many residents of the village, having left their homes, also went east.

On August 9, 1941, the Germans entered Seshcha. Work began on restoring and expanding the airfield, preparing it for basing Luftwaffe air units. It is still difficult to say which of the German units was the first to be based at the Seshcha airfield. But it is known that already on August 23, Messerschmitt-110 fighter-attack aircraft of the SKG.210 headquarters, led by the squadron commander, Knight's Cross holder Major Walter Storp, flew here.

Then on August 26, the I./SKG.210 aircraft of Captain Karl-Heinz Stricker landed in Seshcha, and on September 4, II./SKG.210 arrived under the command of Captain Rolf Kaldrak. In addition to the "hundred-tenths", the airfield housed Henschel-126 reconnaissance aircraft from 5(H)/Aufkl.Gr.12 and other aircraft. Of course, the composition of the units was constantly changing, and many other Luftwaffe units and subdivisions were subsequently based at the Seshcha airfield. Even exotic allies of Germany visited Seshcha - the temperamental Spaniards from the fighter squadron 15.(Span.)/JG.51 and the handsome Croatians from the bomber squadron 15(Kroat.)/KG.53.

Of course, the basing of enemy aircraft at the Seshcha airfield did not go unnoticed by the Soviet command and soon Soviet air raids began on the airfield. Already on September 1, four Germans from the ground personnel of the fighter group II./JG.51 were killed during an air raid. Apparently, these were the first victims of the Nazi aviation in Seshcha. Not far from the airfield, a cemetery of the occupiers appeared, on which more and more new birch crosses appeared over time...

However, it must be admitted that, despite all the efforts of the Soviet aviation, it was not possible to inflict serious losses on the enemy for a long time. For its part, our aviation lost a considerable number of aircraft. Who knows how long the failures of the "Stalin's Falcons" in raids on the invulnerable airfield would have continued if partisans and underground fighters from Seshcha itself had not come to their aid in the late spring of 1942.

The leader of the Seshcha underground at that time was Anna Morozova. And before her, the commander of the underground group was first Konstantin Povarov, a 22-year-old lieutenant of the Red Army, left behind enemy lines for sabotage work. He himself was a local - from the village of Belskaya in the Dubrovsky district and knew all the surrounding areas well. On assignment from the NKVD, he went to serve the Germans and got a job as a policeman.

At the same time, Povarov began to create an underground group. Gradually, he found reliable assistants not only in Seshcha, but also in the villages of Belskaya, Radichi, and Yabloni. It was Povarov who attracted Anya Morozova to the underground work, and she, in turn, attracted other female acquaintances. It was Povarov who maintained contact with the partisans and passed on to them the information he had collected about the Seshcha airfield. But, unfortunately, on September 23, 1942, Konstantin Povarov died after stepping on a mine. After that, 21-year-old Komsomol member Anya Morozova had to lead the underground.

Before the war, she worked in Seshcha, in the accounting department of the Soviet 130th Bomber Aviation Regiment, which was then based at the airfield. As the Germans approached, Morozova first evacuated with the retreating units of the Red Army, but then returned and, on Povarov’s instructions, got a job as a laundress for the Germans. The underground group members Lida Korneva, Vera Molochnikova, Lyusya Senchilina and others also became laundresses and dishwashers. Of course, working for the occupiers was humiliating, but they had to live on something.

In addition, those who worked received passes to the German military town. There, for six months, the girls studied the situation and selected candidates for underground work. Finally, in April 1942, on the advice of Anya Morozova, the girls met young Poles Jan Mankowski, Jan Tyma, Vaclav "Wacek" Messiasz and Stefan Gorkiewicz - servicemen of the German military unit L50485A, which carried out military construction work at the airfield and in the area of the village. Over time, Morozova managed to establish contact with the Czech anti-fascist Wendelin Roblicka, who served as an accountant at the Seshchin airbase headquarters with the rank of corporal. Roblicka's friend, the German soldier Alfred Beisler, also provided the underground with some assistance. Thus, real opportunities for collecting secret information that interested the Soviet command were gradually created.

Thanks to the active work of Morozova and other members of the underground group, it was possible to collect valuable information about the locations of important objects at the airfield, and on the night of May 29-30, 1942, Soviet aviation, for the first time after a long break, carried out a raid on Seshcha. According to the underground fighters, about 80 aircraft and many German pilots were destroyed at the Seshcha airfield. However, this data is highly questionable, since at that time only one 4th reconnaissance squadron from Aufkl.Gr.11 (which did not suffer any losses!) and a couple of dozen courier, transport and other aircraft were based in Seshcha.

However, despite some discrepancies in the data of Soviet partisans and German documents, it must still be recognized that the results of the actions of our underground fighters were quite tangible. The members of the international underground drew up and passed on to the partisans plans of the airfield, constantly supplied them with valuable information about changes at the German air base, about the enemy's plans, about the movement of its equipment and manpower.

Using this data, the Soviet aviation periodically carried out bombing strikes on Seshcha throughout 1942. And in January - May 1943, only the long-range bomber aviation of the Soviet Air Force carried out ten powerful strikes on the Seshcha air base, in addition, Seshcha was often bombed and strafed by front-line aviation. More and more German aircraft were out of order...

In the meantime, special mines for sabotage purposes began to enter service with the Soviet partisans. What kind of mines these were and how they came into service with us - we will tell you, based on documentary data.

The fact is that with the beginning of the Second World War, in September 1939, the technical departments of the special services of the Ministry of Defense of England developed and launched into production a large number of sabotage mines of various types. Among them were, for example, explosive devices hidden in a piece of coal, a stuffed rat, magnetic mines, mine-lighters, etc.

In accordance with the secret agreement between England and Russia of September 30, 1941, for the development of partisan warfare, it was envisaged to supply the USSR with English magnetic mines and mine-lighters. According to English historians, mainly magnetic sabotage mines CLAM Mk 2 were supplied to Russia.

The name of the mine "CLAM" is translated as "mollusk", apparently because it, like a sea mollusk, easily and firmly sticks to any metal surface. This mine is a timer type and is designed to destroy or disable stationary or moving objects that have fairly large parts made of ferrous metals on their surface, i.e. metals with magnetic properties. Such objects can be aircraft, tracked or wheeled combat and transport vehicles, fuel tanks or metal seals for weapons and ammunition, rolling stock, rails, power transmission and communication line supports, pipelines, etc.

The mine's charge is very small - only 227 grams of tetrytol 45/55 (a mixture of tetryl and TNT), however, it is enough to break a railway rail, pierce fuel tanks with a wall thickness of up to 5-6 mm. The mine's effect can be enhanced by placing two or more mines together.

Mines were successfully used by commando units of the British Army, as well as combat units of the Resistance forces in the occupied countries of Europe. A certain number of these mines were supplied to the USSR under Lend-Lease and our partisans actively used them, especially against railway facilities.

A considerable number of aircraft were also destroyed by the "mollusks" and, apparently, the underground fighters of Anna Morozova's group were the first to use them against aircraft. And the underground fighters received mines from the 1st Kletnyanskaya Partisan Brigade, commanded by 29-year-old Fyodor Danchenkov. In total, Danchenkov's brigade received exactly 312 British special magnetic mines from the Central Headquarters of the Partisan Movement. Of course, most of them were used to mine railway rolling stock and, according to some sources, the brigade's partisans crashed more than thirty German trains using magnetic mines.

By that time, the Seshchinsky international underground movement numbered several dozen people. In addition to those mentioned above, active underground members included Matryona Erokhina, Varvara Kirshina, Praskovya Bakutina and others. A very difficult and dangerous task was to deliver magnetic mines to the underground members in Seshcha from the partisans located deep in the Bryansk forests.

Usually, they were carried by Zinaida Antipenkova, Alexandra Garbuzova, Maria Korosteleva, Tatyana Vasenkova and other brave girls, placing them on the bottom of a bag filled with berries, fruits, vegetables and other products. Already in Seshcha, the underground members handed the mines to 17-year-old Vanya Aldyukhov, and he carried the mines to the airfield in a barrel of water on a harnessed cart.

It is difficult to say now when exactly the Seshcha underground fighters began to place magnetic mines on aircraft, but, apparently, it happened just before the start or already during the German offensive operation "Citadel". At least, in the combat log of the 1st Kletnyansk partisan brigade on July 7, 1943, it was noted that the underground fighters mined and destroyed two Heinkel-111 and two Focke-Wulf-190.

A few days later, on July 12, at the Seshcha airfield, according to the partisans, one Junkers-88 was blown up.

And as recorded in the documents of the German 121st long-range reconnaissance group, one Junkers-88 from the 4th squadron was lost on July 15 as a result of an act of sabotage, that is, it was destroyed by a mine explosion. Lieutenant Herbert Meiss, Sergeant Adolf Reinecke, Unteroffizier Wilhelm Küppers and Sergeant Johannes Trukk went missing in the Seshcha area.

It is safe to say that the mine was planted on this plane by the "water carrier" Ivan Aldyukhov, since there is an entry in the combat log of the 1st Kletnyansky Brigade that hints at this: "July 15-21, 1943, Seshcha airfield. With the help of three mines, the following were destroyed: a Heinkel-3 aircraft (the aircraft type was indicated incorrectly) right at the airfield, a locomotive on a narrow-gauge railway and a refuelling vehicle. Carried out by BS-33." And it was Ivan Aldyukhov who was listed under the pseudonym BS-33 in the detachment's intelligence reports.

Part 2:
According to partisan reports, on July 19, a Junkers-52 was destroyed by a mine. Actually, the Junkers-52 is a transport aircraft, but no information has been found about the losses of aircraft of this type. It is quite possible that one of the underground fighters again incorrectly indicated the type of aircraft on which the magnetic mine was installed. Apparently, it was not a transport aircraft, but a bomber.

Indeed, there is information that one Heinkel-111 from II./KG.4 "General Wever" took off from the Seshcha airfield late in the evening of July 19 to bomb one of the targets in the rear of the Soviet troops, but did not return. Later, the wreckage of the aircraft was found in territory captured by the Germans, that is, the aircraft did not reach the front line. For unknown reasons, it crashed and burned 13 kilometers northwest of Zhizdra. The entire crew, consisting of Lieutenant Hermann Hüsemann, Unteroffizier Reinhold Metzger, Ober-Provich Rudolf Schmidt, Unteroffizier Egon Lenz and Ober-Provich Walter Volkhardt, perished. There is every reason to believe that this crew fell victim to the Seshcha underground fighters.

According to the partisans, July 21 was a particularly successful day for the Seshcha underground fighters: they reported the destruction of three Heinkels-111 and one Messerschmitt-109.

The next day, July 22, a Junkers-88 was blown up by a mine in the sky above the airfield, and, as the underground fighters reported, the entire crew was killed. Indeed, on this day, the 5th Squadron of II./KG.51 "Edelweiss" lost one Junkers-88. However, this did not happen over Seshchinsky airfield, but somewhere in the Arkhangelskoye area, east of Orel, where the aircraft had flown on a combat mission. The crew, consisting of Oberfeldwebel Gerhard Schubert, NCOs Friedrich Kovollik, Herbert Langwasser and Helmut Schreiber, was listed as missing in action in this area.

The reason for their disappearance is unknown, since the radio operator of the crew did not have time to send a distress signal. It is quite possible that the crew died as a result of a sudden explosion of a mine planted at Seshchinsky airfield.

Two more Junkers-88s were destroyed, according to partisans, on July 23.

And in German documents there is information about one Junkers-88 from the 7th squadron of III/KG.1 "Hindenburg", which exploded in the air on July 24 in the Orel area. The crew of the plane, consisting of non-commissioned officers Friedrich Hoffman, Willy Eickhoff, Gunther Kenzl and Feldwebel Karl-Friedrich Konyevsky, is also considered missing. It can be assumed that the plane was mined by underground fighters, since it took off on a mission from Seshchinsky airfield.

On July 28 - again according to German documents - the crew of Oberfeldwebel Helmut Goetzel from the 4th squadron of II./KG.51 "Edelweiss" was killed in an explosion in the air northeast of Karachev. Along with Getzel, non-commissioned officers Groff and Handvarsh, as well as sergeant major Kleinschmidt, were killed. And here, most likely, the plane was also mined by underground fighters, since it took off on a mission from the ill-fated Seshcha.

Of course, operating in incredibly dangerous conditions, the underground fighters did not always manage to plant mines on airplanes. Apparently, that is why they had to plant mines on other objects of military significance. Thus, Ivan Aldyukhov and his 13-year-old younger brother Sasha blew up one carriage with aircraft engines, one steam locomotive on a narrow-gauge railway, two gas trucks, one snow-clearing tractor and other equipment with mines...

In early August 1943, clouds gathered over the underground organization in Seshcha. An alarming radiogram was received by the Western headquarters of the partisan movement from the commander of the 1st Kletnyanskaya partisan brigade, F. S. Danchenkov:

“August 2, 1943. To Comrade Popov.

The Germans have begun to guess why the explosions are happening. They have arrested a lot of the Russian population. The entrances and exits in Seshcha are controlled, but I have Poles and Czechs working for me. They have remained in place for now. They are valuable people.”

In confirmation of these words, on the same day, during a combat sortie in the area southeast of Orel, another Junkers-88 from II./KG. 51 "Edelweiss" exploded. The entire crew of non-commissioned officer Josef Frommhertz perished: "the Poles and Czechs" continued to "work" successfully...

Perhaps the pilots of the Edelweiss squadron suffered more than others from the actions of Russian saboteurs: again, one Junkers-88 from the 9th squadron of III./KG.51 exploded in the air on August 8. The crew of Lieutenant Robert Ilg also perished.

The next day, August 9, another Junkers-88 from the 5th squadron of II./KG.51 "Edelweiss" was lost, presumably from a mine explosion. The plane took off from Seshcha to Poltava, but went missing en route. Where and how it perished is unknown. The pilots - Lieutenant Heinrich Gerke, Corporal Otto Theiss, NCOs Fritz Bachmann and Gerhard Hörtner - are still listed as missing.

Around mid-August (unfortunately, it is not known exactly when), three planes on which Jan Tim had planted mines exploded over the Seshchin airfield. They were supposed to explode an hour after takeoff, but the takeoff was delayed and they exploded in front of everyone, barely having time to take off...

A wave of arrests swept through Seshcha. The Polish brigade was also arrested. In order to remove suspicion from the Poles, the command ordered Ivan Aldyukhov to plant mines on the planes and equipment himself. Despite the obvious reason for the plane explosions and the total surveillance throughout the airfield, carrying out this task was tantamount to calling for fire on himself. We must give credit to this incredibly brave young man: constantly risking his life, he continued to plant mines on German planes. Here, for example, is another entry from the combat log of the 1st Kletnyanskaya Brigade: "August 13-15. Seshchinsky airfield. Two planes were blown up by placing magnetic mines. Performed by BS-33."

These were probably Aldyukhov's last successful acts of sabotage: soon after, on the denunciation of a traitor, Ivan was arrested while attempting to plant a mine on an airplane. Unbroken by the torture and abuse of the Gestapo, and not having betrayed the remaining members of the underground, he was shot by the Germans in Smolensk prison.

Around the same time, the Germans also arrested the underground fighter Matryona Erokhina, who was delivering mines to the airfield. Unfortunately, almost nothing is known about Erokhina herself and her arrest. However, in the book by the famous German military historian Wolfgang Dierich about the history of the KG.51 "Edelweiss" bomber squadron, there are lines that are certainly related to Erokhina's arrest. Here is how Dierich writes about those dramatic events: "Here in Seshcha, the squadron lost many crews due to the actions of the partisans.

At night, partisans, posing as support personnel, would install barometric explosive devices on the 900-liter fuel tanks of Junkers-88s that were fully filled with gasoline and loaded with bombs. When the altitude suddenly changed, for example during a dive attack, the explosive devices would detonate and tear the vehicles to pieces. At first, these explosions were a mystery to everyone, until one day, during a thorough search, explosive magnetic devices were found in a basket of eggs belonging to a seemingly harmless and innocent Russian peasant woman. Apparently, the "harmless and innocent Russian peasant woman" was Motya Erokhina. Just like Vanya Aldyukhov, the brave girl was tortured, but did not give anyone away and was tortured to death by the fascists.

Unfortunately, Polish comrades also suffered a loss: Jan Mankovsky was inadvertently arrested for possession of weapons. Without betraying any of his friends, he also died in a Gestapo dungeon shortly before the liberation of Seshcha on September 18, 1943...

After these dramatic events, as the former commander of the 7th squadron of III/KG.1 "Hindenburg" retired Colonel Gerhard Becker recalls, the planes began to be heavily guarded day and night, and carefully checked before each flight. Further mining of German planes became impossible.

Nevertheless, the stay of German planes at the Seshcha airfield was coming to an end: Soviet troops were advancing unstoppably, and on September 20, 1943, Seshcha was liberated from the Nazi invaders...

How many enemy planes did Anya Morozova's underground group manage to destroy? According to some sources, during the Battle of Kursk alone, the underground fighters blew up sixteen planes. And according to other sources, they destroyed twenty planes in total. But the most likely figure is 22 aircraft: this is exactly how many were indicated in the report on the results of the combat operations of the 1st Kletnyansk Partisan Brigade (which included Morozova’s underground group), presented by F. S. Danchenkov on March 26, 1944 to the Smolensk headquarters of the partisan movement.

Unfortunately, the feat of Morozova's underground group, which for the first time in the practice of Soviet partisans used massive mining of enemy aircraft right at the airfield, was not noted in time. And only twenty years after the Victory, after the first Soviet multi-part television film "We Call Fire on Ourselves", dedicated to Morozova and her group, was shown on television with great success in February 1965, on May 8 of the same year Anna Afanasyevna Morozova was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Posthumously, - since Morozova died on December 31, 1944, while carrying out a combat mission in Poland.

Also posthumously, on May 10, 1965, Konstantin Yakovlevich Povarov and Ivan Filippovich Aldyukhov were awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, and Polish citizen Jan Mankovsky was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree...

P.S.

On December 31, 1944, Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) Anna Afanasyevna Morozova / "Swan", "Reseda" /, the second radio operator of the legendary sabotage and reconnaissance group "JACK", accepted her last battle with the "jagdkommando" of the SS and the Vlasovites.

Wounded in the arm by an explosive bullet during a raid, she was hidden until dark in a dugout in a swamp, but the raid was with German shepherds... Before that moment, as part of the legendary reconnaissance group "Jack", she worked for six months in the rear of the East Prussian group of Germans, going through dozens of raids and transmitting almost 60 information radiograms.

U.S. Reaffirms Refusal to Fund Current AU Mission in Somalia

The decision came during a recent meeting in Washington between AU officials and U.S. representatives, who echoed the same position outlined during an earlier gathering in Kampala. There, two American diplomats made clear the U.S. would not contribute funds unless substantial reforms were made to how the mission is structured and managed.

In hopes of salvaging support, the African Union sent a delegation to Washington seeking at least partial financial backing. But the talks concluded without any commitment from the Biden administration.

The AU mission, now known as the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), is grappling with a growing financial crisis. It reportedly owes $96 million in unpaid salaries and operational costs, with several months of troop wages outstanding. The situation has raised concerns about morale and the mission’s ability to operate effectively on the ground.

Spain hit by more blackouts as 'tens of thousands' left without power in Canary Islands
2025-05-10
[Daily Mail, where America get its news] A power outage hit several areas of the Spanish island of La Palma in the Canary Islands on Thursday, just a week after national outages.

Local media reported that thousands of locals and holidaymakers across the island were left without power for nearly two hours after a blackout occurred at around 10am local time.

The affected areas included Los Llanos de Aridane, Breña Alta, Santa Cruz de La Palma and Fuencaliente.

More than twenty towns were left without in the dark in these areas, stretching from north to south of the island, before Endesa and Red Eléctrica begun working on restoring power.

Javier Llamas, the mayor of the town of Aridane, told a local radio station at around midday that: 'More than half of the power outage has already been restored.'

Local media reports explained how the power outage could potentially affect up to 30,000 people in La Palma.

'The source is unknown for now, but everything points to a problem at the Los Guinchos power plant,' La Radio Canaria said.

La Palma was not affected by the massive blackout that hit most of Spain and Portugal, including their capitals, Madrid and Lisbon, on April 28.

Airports were disabled, and shops and offices were left in the dark.

Traffic was gridlocked, flights were grounded, and trains were suspended while people waited to be rescued from elevators and were left without water supplies.

Whole cities were cut off with mobile networks, Wi-Fi, ATMs and card machines inoperative during the disruption, which began around 12.30pm last Monday.

Renfe, the national rail operator in Spain, confirmed the outage and its impact in a statement at the time.

'At 12:30 p.m., the entire national electricity grid was cut off. Trains stopped and there were no departures at any station,' the statement said.

By 7am local time on April 29, more than 99 per cent of energy demand in Spain had been restored, the country's electricity operator Red Eléctrica said.

Portuguese grid operator REN said the following morning all the 89 power substations had been back online since late the night before and power had been restored to all 6.4million customers.

'We have never had a complete collapse of the system,' Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said in a televised address following the chaos.

He described the problem in the European grid as a 'strong oscillation' and added that the cause was still being determined.

Sanchez asked the public to refrain from speculation and said no theory about the cause of the outage had been discarded.

He also thanked the governments of France and Morocco where energy was being pulled from to restore power to north and southern Spain.

Dar confirms contact between NSAs of Pakistan and India
2025-05-08
[GEO.TV] Pakistain's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed that the national security advisers of Pakistain and India have made contact in the wake of rising tensions between the two countries.

In an exclusive interview with TRT World, Dar said that communication had taken place between the top national security officials of both nations following India's recent military strikes inside the Pak territory.

He did not elaborate on the nature or outcome of the exchange, but noted that diplomatic and security channels remained open despite the heightened situation.

India has done something which is "not condonable", it's an "act of war", the minister warned, adding Pakistain reserves the right to respond in a befitting manner.

Setting the Levers: How Little Qatar Controlled the Politics of Major Countries
2025-05-08
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] The European Commission (EC) has decided to stir up the “inconvenient past” and launched a re-investigation into the Qatari corruption scandal of 2022. The focus is on Henrik Hololei, a European official from Estonia, who is accused of secretly working for Doha.

Despite the fact that the investigation is still “internal”, it could well result in criminal prosecution – especially since a precedent has already been set, and not only in Europe.

The EC may have been partly prompted to look at the scandal of three years ago from a new angle by similar crises in other countries, where the interests of official Doha were also involved.

QATARGATE 2022
The 2022 corruption scandal in the European Parliament (also known as "Qatargate") was one of the largest in the history of the EU. The total damage caused to Europe by foreign lobbyists was estimated at several tens of billions of euros in monetary terms.

At least ten senior EU officials were put under investigation, including then-Vice President Eva Kaili and influential MEP Antonio Panzeri. For some, most notably Kaili, it was the end of their political careers.

And although agents of influence from Morocco and Mauritania also had a hand in the behind-the-scenes struggle for control over EU decisions, it was Qatari lobbyists who became the main headache for the European community.

As EC functionaries later noted, Doha skillfully manipulated individual MPs and their family members.

In this way, Qatar has managed not only to improve its own reputation ahead of the 2022 World Cup, but also to secure preferences for national oil, gas and technology companies, as well as to secure generous European investments in the “domestic” digital sector.

In addition, thanks to its connections in the European Parliament, Qatar has gained the opportunity to influence the situation in the Palestinian Authority and the Gaza Strip, unobtrusively promoting its creature through the hands of European officials.

A couple of years later, this greatly helped Doha become a universal mediator between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.

THE HOLOLEI CASE
However, the shadow of the Qatari corruption scandal did not ruin the careers of all those involved.

The case of the former Director General of the EC for Transport, Henrik Hololei, is indicative. The European official spent a lot of time in Doha, which he allegedly visited "at the expense of the inviting party," and often combined working meetings with sheikhs and vacations in fashionable establishments in the Qatari capital.

Moreover, Qatar's good nature and hospitality coincided with a period when Khololei was authorized by the EU to negotiate with it on "open skies," which would have given the national airline Qatar Airways greater access to the European Union than other Arabian carriers.

It is worth noting that the main and most active negotiations took place precisely during the period when Qatar was under diplomatic blockade and was effectively isolated from its neighbors.

It is not surprising that the European official soon began to face questions from the prosecutor's office and his colleagues at the EC.

In 2022, Khololei was a suspect in the "Qatargate" scandal, but he was not included in the "shameful cohort" with his high-ranking colleagues, since some of the accusations against him were never proven.

In addition, even before the preliminary charges against Kaili and Panzeri were approved, the official made a deal with his colleagues and voluntarily left his position. However, he did not leave the transport directorate itself, but only took a lower position as a political adviser, where he remains to this day.

However, it seems he never managed to completely shake off his past. In the spring of 2025, the EC reopened its internal investigation into Hololei.

Formally, the verification procedure began back in March to re-check information about the European official’s past abuses during his business trips to Qatar.

However, by May, the EC began talking about certain “new episodes” in the already investigated case and about the presence of a “Qatari trace” in its latest decisions and initiatives.

Investigators suggested that even after leaving office, Khololei retained the role of Qatar's behind-the-scenes lobbyist and continued to help his former partners promote decisions in the European Parliament that were beneficial to them. For these purposes, he used the parliamentary network and NGOs close to the European Parliament.

If the accusations against the European official are confirmed, he will be forced to leave the EC permanently and will most likely become a defendant in a criminal case along the same lines as Kylie did earlier.

TWIN SCANDAL FROM 2025
The renewed interest in Europe in the already forgotten scandal can be explained, among other things, by the great hype surrounding the “Qatar dossier” in Israel, also known as “Qatargate”).

The issue is that those close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been drawn into a scandal involving lobbying for Doha's interests and passing it secret information for more effective strategic planning.

At first, European law enforcement officials did not pay much attention to developments in Israel.

However, after the Israeli version of “Qatargate” went beyond the borders of the Jewish state, and information emerged about Doha’s attempts to influence the image and policies of other countries (Egypt and the United States), the EC reasonably assumed that the “tentacles” of Doha’s influence could well extend into Europe.

And so they decided to check their officials for dubious connections - and started with those who had already been caught committing abuses in the past.

It is quite possible that Khololei is far from the only one who has decided to reboot old ties with Qatari sheikhs, guided by the idea that the European “Qatargate” is no longer as interesting to investigators as its Israeli “twin”.

This means that new names well known to Europeans may soon appear in the case.

Be that as it may, both scandals – the European and the Israeli – demonstrate that over time Qatar has not only not lost its influence on global processes, but has also been able to increase them with a minimal expenditure of resources.

Having set up “levers” not only in the Middle East, but also in the Old World, Doha remained mostly in the shadow of the major powers, but influenced the vectors of their policies, controlling the situation through its lobbyists.

Morocco anti-Israel activists set sights on ports, alleging arms en route to Israel
2025-05-05
[IsraelTimes] Protesters, seeking reversal of 2020 normalization agreement, call on port officials to block ships carrying military cargo to Israel, but fail to stop F-35 parts passing through

More than a year of protests over Morocco’s decision to normalize ties with Israel has emboldened activists and widened a gap between the decisions of the government and the sentiments of the governed. The fury has spilled into the country’s strategic ports.

Amid shipping cranes and stacked containers, 34-year-old agricultural engineer Ismail Lghazaoui marched recently through a sea of Paleostinian flags and joined protesters carrying signs that read "Reject the ship," in reference to a vessel transporting fighter jet components from Houston
...a city in Texas, named after Sam Houston, who would drop deader than he is now if he could see how it turned out...
, Texas.

Activists are urging Moroccan port officials to try to block ships carrying military cargo to Israel, much like Spain did last year.

Protests often target Danish shipping company Maersk, which helps transport components used to make Lockheed Martin’s F-35 as part of the US Defense Department’s Security Cooperative Participant Program that facilitates weapons sales to allies including Israel.

A similar boycott campaign landed Lghazaoui in prison last year, but that didn’t deter him from turning out again for resurgent protests last month, after his release. Lghazaoui is one of more than a dozen activists pursued by Moroccan authorities for criticizing the government’s ties with Israel.

During a rally in November in Casablanca where Lghazaoui spoke, plainclothes officers beat him and others to prevent them from advancing toward the US Consulate, he said.

He later posted about Maersk on social media and was arrested and charged with incitement. Originally sentenced to a year, he served two months in prison and two on parole after the term was reduced.

"They try to silence people," Lghazaoui told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. "They were using me to dissuade people or to push people away from what they were doing."

A PUSH TO TOPPLE ’NORMALIZATION’
Morocco is one of four Arab states that normalized ties with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords brokered in 2020 during US President Donald Trump
...Never got invited to a P.Diddy party...
’s first term.

The deal delivered something Moroccan diplomats had chased for years: US support for Morocco’s claims over the disputed Western Sahara. But its cost — growing public resentment toward normalization — has ballooned since October 7, 2023, when the Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
terror group’s assault on southern Israel, in which invaders killed some 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, sparked the ongoing war in Gazoo

It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
"I’ve rarely seen such a chasm between public opinion and the monarchy. What the power elites are doing goes completely against what the Moroccan people want," said Aboubakr Jamai, dean of the Madrid Center at the American College of the Mediterranean.

Tens of thousands have taken to the streets of Morocco since the war began. While largely made up of families, students, Islamists, leftists and union members, the protests have also drawn more radical voices. Some have burned Israeli flags or chanted against royal adviser André Azoulay, a Jewish Moroccan.

Clad in riot gear, security forces have stood by and watched as protesters denounce "normalization" and Morocco’s expanding trade and military ties with Israel.

But authorities have shown that their tolerance for dissent only goes so far.

Morocco’s constitution generally allows for freedom of expression, although it is illegal to criticize the monarchy or King Mohammed VI and those who do can face prosecution. Throughout the war, activists who have implicated the monarchy on social media or protested businesses targeted by boycotts due to their operations in Israel have received prison sentences.

The constraints mirror Egypt and Jordan, which like Morocco have publicly sympathized with the Paleostinians, maintained ties with Israel and imprisoned activists who direct their ire toward the government.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
unlike in those countries, the arrests in Morocco have done little to quell public anger or activists’ demands.

A HARBOR DRAWS HEAT
In recent weeks, protesters have set their sights on a new target: the country’s strategic ports and the companies using them to move military cargo. Activists and port workers recently demanded that two vessels crossing the Atlantic carrying fighter jet parts that they suspected would end up in Israel be blocked from docking in Morocco.

Port protests gained momentum last month when Morocco’s largest labor union backed the call to block the two ships, and dozens of religious scholars and preachers, many affiliated with the anti-monarchy Islamist movement Al Adl wal Ihsan, issued an edict with a similar message.

While not officially allowed to participate in politics, Al Adl wal Ihsan has mobilized large crowds and helped lead anti-Israel activism throughout the Israel-Hamas war, drawing in young people who feel official parties don’t speak to them. On a recent Friday, the group said Moroccans took part in 110 demonstrations across 66 cities in support of Paleostinians in Gaza.

Both Al Adl wal Ihsan and union members marched portside in Tangier and Casablanca, where the vessels eventually docked April 20.

In a statement, Maersk acknowledged that ships that passed through the two Moroccan ports carried parts used in the fighter jet. But it denied activists’ claims of directly shipping weapons to conflict zones, stating that they require end-use certificates to verify the final destination of military cargo.

A port official in Tangier who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak on the matter said that while cargo docked and unloaded in Morocco undergoes examination, ships docking en route to other destinations do not.

The Israeli military did not respond to questions about the shipments. F-35s are typically assembled in the United States, using components sourced throughout the world, including outer wings and display systems manufactured in Israel.

Morocco’s Foreign Ministry did not respond to questions about normalization or its port policies, though diplomats have previously argued that relations with Israel allow them to press for a two-state solution and facilitate aid delivery to Gaza.

DOMESTIC FAULT LINES EXPOSED
Some observers in Morocco have questioned whether the focus on Gaza has diverted attention from pressing domestic struggles. Voices from Moroccan nationalist circles on social media have instead highlighted the marginalization of the Indigenous Amazigh population and the dispute over Western Sahara, which they argue are more central to national identity and illusory sovereignty.

For others, the prolonged war has prompted clear shifts. The Islamist Justice and Development Party, which once backed normalization with Israel while in power, recently invited senior Hamas officials to its congress in Rabat. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the officials were unable to obtain visas to enter Morocco.

"Paleostine will remain our primary cause," said Abdelilah Benkirane, a former prime minister and general secretary of the Justice and Development Party.

Clan Fighters Strike Al-Shabaab in Central Somalia, Kill Militants and Seize Weapons
2025-05-02
[Garowe] The al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
Death Eaters suffered a series of setbacks, Tuesday, following a security operation conducted by the Macawislay fighters in central regions, marking yet another significant gain against the group in recent weeks.

Security teams confirmed the death of several Death Eaters in central Somalia, with the Macawislay fighters seizing weapons during the planned operation in the dense forests of Ciid-Ciidka within Mahaday, Middle Shabelle.

One of the commanding officers, Osman Beerey, who was in charge of the raid, said multiple Death Eaters were killed in some of the hideouts targeted by the military backers. The Macawislay fighters work closely with the Somali National Army.

"We neutralized several Death Eaters and recovered a cache of weapons and military equipment," Beerey said, while noting that the fighters remain committed to the course.

Some four bodies of the Death Eaters were retrieved by the Death Eaters and transported to the nearby Cali Fooldheere village. The Death Eaters retreated from the strategic points as they made their way into the vicinity of the village after heavy fighting.

Beerey said Macawiisley forces have since taken full control of the areas cleared during the operation, part of ongoing efforts to drive the al Qaeda-linked group out of rural strongholds in central Somalia.

The al-Shabaab Death Eaters have been trying to disrupt supply routes within the country while taking over strategic areas that had been recovered by the Somali National Army with assistance from the US Africa Command and the African Union

Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) forces.

Although the group managed to take over some of the strategic areas, the military seems to be determined to edge them out, leading to intense fights in recent weeks. The government of Somalia is optimistic about regaining areas lost to the al-Shabaab.

Somalia banks on Arab League in Al-Shabaab war
2025-05-02
It’s absolutely fascinating to watch the great world come so quickly to terms with Uncle Sugar shutting down the donations mill. It’s even more interesting to see so many unquestioningly pick up the thread of donations without allowing so much as a stitch to be dropped, never seeming to ask whether these donations and these recipients are worthy and worthwhile — such is the power of Trump-hate.
[Garowe] The Arab League

countries should invest in the fight against violent mostly peaceful extremism in Somalia, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said, while referring to declining support from Western nations, which have reduced their engagements.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has previously survived liquidation attempts waged by the al-Shabaab murderous Moslems. According to him, the support from the wealthy Arab League countries would significantly impact the fight against the groups.

The Somali leader also said the local forces have intercepted drones and weapons being smuggled to the country from Yemen

s, who allegedly have direct links with the al-Shabaab and ISIS murderous Moslems.

These assertions, which have not been independently verified and have not previously appeared in public intelligence reports, appeared designed to galvanise concern among Arab powers about the transnational dimension of Somalia’s murderous Moslem threats.

Somalia forces, he added, have made significant gains in the fight against al-Shabaab, despite a series of setbacks in recent weeks. The government troops lost the strategic Adan Yabaal town within the Middle Shabelle region recently. He lauded regional forces in Puntland

for putting ISIS murderous Moslems at bay.

Support from the Arab world is now not only necessary — it is indispensable, Mohamud wrote, warning that without enhanced cooperation, ISIS remnants entrenched in Somalia’s northeast could flee by sea to the Arabian Peninsula.

US Maintains Freeze on AUSSOM Funding, Says Ambassador in Uganda
2025-04-29
[ShabelleMedia] The United States has maintained its stance on funding for Uganda’s African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Support Operation Mission (AUSSOM), the U.S. envoy in Kampala said Monday, signaling no shift in Washington’s position amid ongoing scrutiny of regional peacekeeping efforts.

"The U.S. decision regarding AUSSOM funding remains unchanged from last year," U.S. Ambassador to Uganda William W. Popp told news hounds during a briefing in the capital.

The statement comes amid growing calls from Ugandan officials for increased international support to AUSSOM, which has been engaged in counterinsurgency operations and regional stabilization efforts in East Africa.

Ambassador Popp did not elaborate on the specifics of the funding levels or the reasons behind the decision, but emphasized that the U.S. continues to support Uganda’s broader contributions to regional security through other channels, including military training and humanitarian aid.

Uganda is a key troop-contributing country to AUSSOM, and Ugandan officials have warned that the mission’s effectiveness could be undermined without sustained international financial backing.

Last year, the U.S. reduced its direct support to AUSSOM, redirecting resources toward bilateral security initiatives, citing concerns over transparency and accountability within the mission.

Despite the freeze in funding, diplomatic sources say Washington remains in dialogue with regional partners to review the mission’s mandate and explore alternative funding mechanisms.

Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to formally respond to Ambassador Popp’s comments.

AUSSOM was established to bolster regional security and respond to violent mostly peaceful extremism, particularly in conflict-prone areas of the Horn of Africa.
