NIA conducts raids in J&K's Pulwama in terror-related cases
2023-08-05

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids at various places in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, in connection with terror links and terror funding cases, officials said on Friday. The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into the raising of funds for sponsoring terrorist activities, they said.

More details about the raids are awaited.

Earlier, the NIA on Tuesday conducted widespread searches in four districts of the Valley in the NGO terror funding case relating to raising funds for sponsoring terrorist activities.

Extensive raids were conducted at seven locations in Srinagar, Budgam, Kupwara and Pulwama districts, at the premises of Trusts and individuals associated with Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS), an NGO involved in raising funds for banned terrorist organizations, the NIA said.
Appearing in 2000 in Srinagar, it is beloved in international rights NGO circles, like Amnesty International and the UN.

's Kupwara district in connection with a terror funding case, officials said.

They said a team of the NIA attached the immovable properties in the name of Watali at villages Baghatpora and Kachwari in Handwara area of the north Kashmir district.

The properties include land in the name of Watali, an accused in the terror funding case, the officials said. They said the properties were attached following an order by the Special NIA Court in New Delhi in May.

Watali was arrested by the NIA in 2017 under various sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

A trial court had in May last year framed charges against Watali and others in a case related to alleged terrorism and secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017. Watali was moved out of jail in February last year and placed under house arrest on medical grounds.
Let us hope his condition is very painful indeed, but of such a nature that he can fully appreciate the unravelling of the portfolio he built for the growth of JKLF funds.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief April 24, 2023
2023-04-24
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • PAKISTAN’S WOBBLE – Facing a constitutional crisis between the Supreme Court and the administration, a highly unpredictable former Prime Minister, and an ailing economy in need of a massive IMF bailout tensions with India are the last thing the country needs. However, the terror attacks in the Poonch District of Jammu/Kashmir have enraged Indians, and the perception that those who planned and carried out the attacks are hiding in Pakistan has added more stress to Prime Minister Shebhaz’s already full plate. Indian officials have announced they have arrested anywhere between 15 and 30 suspects over the course of the nascent investigation. Indian officials are expected to make an announcement at the end of the week that may implicate senior Pakistani officials in the plot. At the very least, sources have indicated that 4 well-known radical religious figures in Pakistan will be named as direct supporters of the terrorists who carried out several deadly attacks in the highly volatile and contested region. While we do not assess that conflict will result from yet another India-Pakistan barrage of accusations, the fragile situation in Islamabad could change in an instant and many world leaders are concerned about the specter of another military takeover. Many observers will be watching the Poonch investigation press conference to see what evidence India has found of possible Pakistani support for terrorists.

  • TAJIKISTAN TURNS BACK TALIBAN MEMBERS FROM BORDER – Tajikistan continues to hold the line against the Taliban and reportedly turned back several Taliban members who attempted to enter the country through the crossing in the Darwaz District of Badakhshan Province. No violence was reported but some shouting and pushing reputedly took place. Tajikistan continues to be the neighboring State who is the most critical of the Taliban and despite rumors that Dushanbe was interested in developing friendlier relations with the IEA, they continue to restrict movement along the border.

  • BI-PARTISAN CONCERN IN THE US OVER POSSIBLE FUNDING OF TALIBAN – Political consensus may be forming over the lack of transparency regarding economic aid funding sent to Afghanistan since the US pullout. Democratic and Republican lawmakers were briefed by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan (John Sopko) on Wednesday and his characterization of the obfuscation tactics being used by the Department of State, the Pentagon, and the White House was damming. Concerns have long been raised that some of the $8 billion in funding have been diverted to the Taliban. While both parties continue to focus on the blame for the Afghanistan debacle, perhaps this issue will provide lawmakers with a rallying point.

NEXT 24 HOURS
VIENNA CONFERENCE BEGINS IN AUSTRIA – Amid tight security protocols, Austria is hosting the second conference of Afghanistan expatriates and civil society. The conference will be attended by former political figures, Resistance leaders, former MPs, religious scholars, and a host of other civil society organizations. The conference seeks to promote cooperation between disparate groups in the hopes that better strategies for dealing with the new reality in Afghanistan can be discussed.

Pakistani intruder arrested along International Border in Jammu
2022-08-28

A Pak intruder was arrested along the International Border here by the Border Security Force (BSF) in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

BSF personnel picked up on the movement of Mohd Shabad (45), a resident of Sialkot, while he was trying to sneak into the Arnia sector from across the border, they said.

They fired a few warning shots and took the man into custody, the officials said, adding that no incriminating material was found in his possession.

On August 25, the BSF foiled a major smuggling attempt when its troops seized eight kg of suspected heroin from a Pak intruder along the IB in Samba district.

The intruder was shot at and injured, but he managed to crawl back to the Pak side.

on Wednesday requested a special court here for physical appearance in a case related to the kidnapping of former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s daughter Rubaiya, failing which he would sit on an indefinite hunger strike, officials said.

They said that Malik, who is undergoing a life sentence in a terror-funding case, appeared before the court through video conference.

Malik said he has written to the government for a physical appearance before the court.

He also informed the court that he has requested for cross examination of witnesses himself and said he would sit on hunger strike if his request was not accepted by the government.

The case pertains to the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed on December 8, 1989. She was freed from captivity five days later on December 13 after the then V P Singh government, supported by the BJP at the Centre, released five Death Eaters from the Jammu and Kashmir

The case had gone into virtual cold storage and was revived after Malik was picked up by the National Investigation Agency in 2019 on charges of terror funding.

In January last year, the CBI, with help from special public prosecutors Monika Kohli and S K Bhat, framed charges against 10 people, including Malik, in the Rubaiya kidnapping case that turned out to be a turning point in the Valley’s volatile history.
