Awami Party (BAP) for a coalition government.

In the 336-member National Assembly (NA), 169 votes are the magic number for the formation of a government, and around 224 are needed for a two-thirds majority.

The PML-N has emerged as the largest parliamentary party with 108 members after adding 20 reserved seats for women and four for minorities. The party got elected 75 members for the NA and after nine independents joined it, the tally reached 84. With the allocation of 20 reserved seats for women and four for minorities, its total strength has reached 108 members in the house.

the PPP has 54 elected members and after the addition of 12 reserved seats for women and two for minorities, its total strength in the National Assembly has reached 68 members.

The total number of PML-N and PPP MNAs makes the magic number 169, needed for the formation of a government as members of both parties have a total strength of 168 members.

The MQM-P has 17 MNA's with the addition of four reserved seats for women and one for minorities, its total strength becomes 22 members in the NA. Whereas the PML-Q got elected three members and with one independent joining it, and the addition of one reserved seat for women, its strength in the NA has reached five.

Out of 99 independent candidates, who made it to the lower house of the parliament, 81 PTI-backed candidates have joined the Sunni Ittehad Council

Magic number achieved: Shehbaz PM, Zardari president as PPP, PML-N finally agree
2024-02-21
[GEO.TV] After days-long debate and discussion, the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) late Tuesday forged an agreement to form a coalition government in the Centre as no party secured a simple majority in the February 8 general election.
The Pak establishment fixes a win. We saw that coming.
Following much uncertainty post-polls, top leaders from both major parties confirmed that they were once again joining forces to form the government "in the nation’s best interest".
The nation's best interest involves dynastic politix, jailing your political enemies, and occasionally bumping them off.
"The Pakistain Peoples Party and the Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz now have complete numbers and we are in the position to form the next government," PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari told a presser in Islamabad alongside top leaders from both the parties late Tuesday.

No political party secured a simple majority in the February 8 elections, forcing parties to join hands in their bid to come into power, but the delay of an agreement had raised eyebrows.

After the Feb 8 polls, the PTI-backed independent candidates controlled the most National Assembly seats (92) followed by the PML-N (79) and the PPP (54).

While parties were wheeling and dealing over the government formation, the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....

(SIC) to ensure it gets the required numbers through reserved seats in the assemblies.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
the PPP chief told news hounds that the SIC did not have sufficient numbers to form the next government in the Centre.

Bilawal said Shehbaz Sharif would be the next prime minister and Zardari would be the joint candidate for both parties for the president’s slot.

He added that both parties would form the next government to pull the country out of the ongoing crises and expressed hope that they would be able to deliver.

To a question regarding PML-N leader Ishaq Dar’s nomination as Senate chairman, Bilawal replied that decisions were taken in the meetings, but would be announced separately by each party.

"If we look at the past, we have announced the coalition and made decisions with consensus very quickly compared to previous tenures," he continued.

PPP Co-chairman Zardari said that he wants to assure people that their struggle is for "you, Pakistain, and the coming generations".

"We have come to terms on the point that we have to ensure Pakistain’s success for the coming generations," he added.

in full swing, can a politicised silent Shia-Sunni majority challenge the prevalent status-quo sponsored narrative of religion? Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
has pitted himself against more extremist Deobandi groups and sectarian issues boil just below the surface. The Shuhada Foundation of the Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was captured while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
clique openly call him a terrorist while Qadri rejects any comparison of the Model Town massacre to the Lal Masjid incident. He says the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers are not demanding Sharia by force, ordering people to close down markets, banning female education, or restricting their free movement as is being enforced by their ideological brethren in the Middle East. With the rise of Dr Qadri, Deobandi hardliners and TTP sympathizers appear to be wary of the alliance of Shia and Sunni Barelvis--a rare occurrence. The organization was banned in 2002 as a terrorist organization, but somehow it keeps ticking along, piling up the corpse counts...
, a Takfiri faction of Deobandis, has said this is an internationally sponsored conspiracy to start a civil war in the country.

Apart from using Qadri to balance PML-N in the Punjab by state created parties like PML-Q, Qadri has also been important for the MQM. His Barelvi support base can be instrumental in countering the Taliban influence and the militant Sunni Tehreek. PAT's struggle is as political, constitutional and democratic as PTI's and if compared with other religious entities, they have not attacked anyone nor made any threatening statements against the army. Rather, they are constantly expressing full support of the Zarb-e-Azb operation, and have portrayed their inclusive stance reaching out to the Majlis-e-Wahadatul Muslimeen and even Non-Muslim groups.

One of the biggest gripes that Barelvi mullahs had was that their madrassas and mosques were being forcibly occupied by Deobandis as they had greater money to spend and modern weapons to intimidate. Now the Sunni Ittehad Council
...an Islamist(aren't they all in Pakistain?) political party which claims to represent the Barelvi school of Sunni Islam. Member parties of the Sunni Ittehad Council includes the Aalmi Tanzeem Ahle Sunnat of Pir Afzal Qadri (of Gujrat) and Jamiat Ulema e Pakistan - Sawad e Azam of Sayyid Mahfooz Shah Sahib Mashadi...
, a large alliance of Sunni Barelvis that opposes the Taliban ideologically, supports him. His long march has been well organized and peaceful. His 10-point normative agenda is also clear. He wants social welfare and condemns terrorism (in his famous 600 word fatwa). What is questionable is the funding behind him, the actual extent of political power he has acquired and the sustainability of such a movement already laden with enormous opposition and structural thorns. As for huge public support, let us not forget that agencies can easily put processions together. Qadri is not in charge of a monolithic Barelvi movement as much as he would like to believe. The Barelvi vote does not follow closed-group dynamics so it is unclear how deep Qadri's tendrils are into the Sunni population.

JUP leader shot dead in Quetta
2012-04-07
QUETTA: Maulana Mohammad Qasim Sasoli, a prayer leader belonging to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Noorani group), was shot dead on Saryab Road on Friday.

According to police, Maulana Qasim was on his way to Jamia Masjid Noorani to lead the Friday prayer when armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him, killing him instantly. The killers managed to escape from the scene. The body was taken to Sandeman Hospital for an autopsy.

The killing sparked protest in Saryab area and people took to streets and burnt tyres to condemn it. Talking to reporters, JUP President Abdul Qudus Sasoli said it was not the first time that the JUP leaders were targeted.

Earlier, JUP leaders Iftikhar Habibi, Rafiq Sasoli and Maulana Kabir Qambrani had been killed in target killings. “The government and law-enforcing agencies have failed to protect life of common people in Quetta. No one is safe, whether a cleric, politician or a common man,” he told reporters, adding that the rulers must resign as they had failed to fulfil the basic obligation of the constitution.

He said that international players were involved in dirty games in Balochistan and local people were being used as tool for this purpose. The JUP announced a complete shutter down strike in Balochistan tomorrow (Sunday) to protest against the killing.
