Local commander among 25 terrorists killed so far in Tirah IBOs since August 20: ISPR
2024-08-28
[GEOTV] At least 25 terrorists, including a ring leader, were bumped off by security forces in multiple ongoing intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Tirah valley of Khyber district since August 20, the military's media wing said on Tuesday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces are conducting ''extensive IBOs'' in Tirah valley against the Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) labelled as Fitna-Al-Khwarij and bad boy outfits ''Laskar-e-Islam and Jamat-ul-Ahrar''.

These operations, it said, were based on robust intelligence and resulted into major setbacks to Fitna-Al-Khwarij and its affiliates.

During the intelligence-based operations being conducted since August 20, the security forces so far killed 25 terrorists, including a ring leader named Abuzar aka Saddam.

''However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
four soldiers, having fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced martyrdom'', the ISPR added.

''The heavy losses inflicted upon Fitna-Al-Khwarij in these operations is testament to the valor and commitment of security forces to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country,'' it concluded.

JI ready for month-long sit-in if demands not met, warns Hafiz Naeem
2024-07-28
[GEO.TV] Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has warned that his party's anti-inflation sit-in in Rawalpindi can last for a month if the government did not pay heed to the demands that included slashing the electricity prices.

"Our sit-in is not of two or three days but can last for a month," the JI chief said while addressing the sit-in participants at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi.

A day earlier, the JI activists from across the country converged on Islamabad to stage a sit-in, however, after being denied permission to hold demonstration in the federal capital’s D-Chowk area the party moved its sit-in to Rawalpindi.

The politico-religious party has put forward 10 conditions for ending its protest sit-in staged against inflation including massive hike in electricity tariffs as it formed a committee to hold talks with the government.

The JI emir announced that the sit-in would be staged at the parliament's door if the incumbent government showed non-seriousness in fulfilling the demands.

JI Naib Emir Liaqat Baloch, addressing the participants of the sit-in, confirmed that the leadership has been contacted by the interior minister and other personalities from the federal government to hold dialogue.

Baloch said that the JI emir welcomed the dialogue offer from the government’s side and demanded the immediate release of the arrested workers. "We have prepared our demands with the help of experts," added the politico.

The party on Friday claimed at least 1,150 of its workers were arrested while trying to march on Islamabad after authorities imposed Section 144 in the federal capital and across Punjab.

Mozambique: Army kills two senior rebel leaders in Cabo Delgado
2023-08-25
[AFRICANEWS] Mozambique's army has killed two senior rebel leaders in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, which is in the grip of an armed jihadist insurgency, it announced on Wednesday.

"Terrorist Abu Kital, who held the position of deputy operations commander for the Al Sunna Wall Jamat terrorist group,
...the old name of Islamic State Central Africa Province-Mozambique (ISCAP), whence they moved in 2015 from the Congo, following the probable death of their original emir Abu Yasir Hassan of Tanzania (aka Yaseer Hassan and Abu Qasim), who moved between Mocimboa da Praia and the Congo. Familiarly known as Al Shabaab-Mozambique because they got themselves trained in jihading by the Al Qaeda-linked Somali Sahboobs, they fund themselves through heroin, contraband, ivory, raiding, and selling the local girls into slavery...
was rubbed out," the Mozambique Defense Forces (FADM) announced in a statement.

Another jihadist, Ali Mahando, who "held important responsibilities within the terrorist group", was also killed, they added.

Rich in natural gas, the Moslem-majority province of Cabo Delgado has been gripped for five years by an insurgency led by fighters linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group. The fighting has claimed at least 4,737 lives, almost half of them civilians, according to the conflict-monitoring organization ACLED, and around a million inhabitants have fled their homes.

According to the FADM, the bandidos bully boys ambushed the soldiers, but one of their vehicles "overturned on a bridge and caught fire". The two rebel leaders were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire, and no soldiers were maimed, the same source added.

The army did not specify when the clash took place, but other sources said it had occurred on Tuesday.

Since July 2021, thousands of troops from Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have been deployed to support the Mozambican army, and have since helped regain control of much of Cabo Delgado.

US transfers two Guantanamo Bay detainees to Pakistan
2023-02-24
[GEO.TV] The United States has transferred two brothers from the Guantanamo Bay US detention facility in Cuba to Pakistain, bringing the total number of people held at Guantanamo down to 32, the Pentagon said on Thursday.

The Guantanamo camp was established by Republican President George W Bush in 2002 to house foreign terrorism suspects following the 2001 hijacked plane attacks on New York and the Pentagon that killed about 3,000 people.

It came to symbolise the excesses of the US "war on terror" because of harsh interrogation methods that critics have said amounted to torture.

There were 40 detainees when President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. The nincompoop who dumped Afghanistan. The copier doesdn't exist that could reelect him....
, a Democrat, took office in 2021. Biden has said he hopes to close the facility. The federal government is barred by law from transferring Guantanamo detainees to US mainland prisons.

On Thursday, the Pentagon announced the repatriation of Abdul Rabbani and Mohammed Rabbani to Pakistain.

Both were arrested in 2002. Abdul Rabbani was an al-Qaeda controller while Mohammed Rabbani was a financial and travel controller for prominent al-Qaeda leaders, according to the Pentagon's website.

"The United States appreciates the willingness of the Government of Pakistain and other partners to support ongoing US efforts focused on responsibly reducing the detainee population and ultimately closing the Guantanamo Bay facility," the Pentagon said in a statement.

A total of 32 detainees remain, of whom 18 are eligible for transfer, the Pentagon said in its statement.

Reacting to the development, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan of Jamat-e-Islami welcomed their transfer to Pakistain, saying the two brothers were detained without any case.
...no case except being Al Qaeda Big Turbans, but no one objects to that nowadays.
"Another good news. Ahmed Ghulam Rabbani and Abdul Rahim Ghulam Rabbani have reached Islamabad airport after being freed from Guantanamo Bay. They were imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay for 21 years despite being innocent. There was no trial, no court proceedings, no charges against them. Congratulations on their release. Thank you Senate of Pakistain."
Update from Al Monitor at 9:50 p.m. ET — late in the day, but not worth giving you an entire article to read tomorrow, dear Reader:
Abdul Rahim Ghulam Rabbani, 55, and Mohammed Ahmed Ghulam Rabbani, 53, were captured in Karachi, Pakistan, in 2002 and held in CIA custody in Afghanistan before they were transferred to the offshore US prison in Cuba in 2004.

The brothers were born in Saudi Arabia and are ethnically Burmese.
This makes their Pakistani citizenship puzzling, but I suppose if Pakistan wants them, they all deserve to enjoy the result.
Their departure brings the remaining number of detainees at Guantanamo Bay to 32. At its peak in 2003, the prison held nearly 680 prisoners.

Shortly after taking office, the Biden administration said it planned to close the controversial detention center, which opened in 2002 and has since been used to house more than 700 foreign inmates suspected of ties to al-Qaeda or the Taliban. Earlier this month, Pakistani detainee Majid Khan was transferred to Belize following the completion of his sentence.

Intense pushback from Congress prevented former President Barack Obama from making good on a 2008 campaign promise to close Guantanamo, despite an executive order issued on his second day in office.

Former President Donald Trump signed a 2018 executive order to keep it open, citing the risk of recidivism among the prisoners. Just one detainee was released under his administration — a Saudi man who pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges and was transferred to Saudi Arabian custody in 2018 to serve out the remainder of his sentence.

Afghanistan
Senior TTP leader Omar Khalid Khorasani killed in Afghanistan, Taliban spokesperson confirms
2022-08-10
More on this story from yesterday.
[DAWN] Senior Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) leader Omar Khalid Khorasani and two others members of the banned outfit were killed in a roadside kaboom in Afghanistan on Monday, according to Taliban front man Muhamamad Khorasani.

Omar's real name was Abdul Wali Mohmand and he previously headed the TTP in the Mohmand Agency
... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
and Kunar...

bordering Afghanistan.

In a statement today, TTP officials said that the car carrying Omar came under attack in the eastern Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province near the Barmal district on Sunday evening.

They urged the Taliban government in Afghanistan to investigate the incident and unearth "spies" who could be responsible for the death of senior TTP leaders.

Apart from Omar, the two other men killed in the attack have been identified as Mufti Hassan and Hafiz Dawlat Khan. They were among several TTP leaders who had joined the outlawed ISIS in 2014.

It is pertinent to mention here that Omar was a member of the TTP team involved in negotiations with Pak officials, Pashtoon jirgas and recently with religious scholars over the past few weeks.

Recently, a jirga member had posted the TTP leader's photo on the sideline of its meeting with Pakistain's side which had held two rounds of talks in Kabul in the first week of June and late July.

Omar and a majority of the TTP members from Mohmand agency had parted ways with the TTP and formed a splinter faction Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain Jamaat Ahrar (TTP-JA) in 2014.

The then TTP chief Maulvi Fazalullah had sacked him after he had announced the formation of his own group Jamaat ul Ahrar, which comprised of almost all the Taliban leaders from the Mohmad Agency. Omar had accused the TTP leadership of deviating from the outfit's ideology.

The group received prominence when Jamaat-ul-Ahrar front man Ehsanullah Ehsan
...formerly the front man for the Pak Taliban, then the lips and tongue of the Jamaatul Ahrar splinter group in Mohmand Agency...
grabbed credit for the Wagah border suicide kaboom in November 2014, in which over 70 people, almost all civilians, were killed.

The TTP leader's killing could be seen as a major blow to the group, especially at a time when it is involved in talks with the Pak government.

Omar was wanted by the Pak government for his involvement in a series of attacks on security forces, tribal elders and members of the peace committee in the area.

In July 2017, one of the UN Security Council’s sanctions committees, upon Pakistain’s request, had approved the addition of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar in the list of entities and individuals subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Jane reached into her purse for her .38...
the United States added Omar's name to the US State Department's Rewards for Justice wanted list in March 2018. The US had announced a reward of up to $3 million for information on him.

In recent years, several TTP leaders, including former chief Maulvi Fazallah, have been killed in Afghanistan after they crossed into the border due to military operation in the tribal areas, Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
and parts of the Malakand division. Fazlullah, who served the TTP chief in Swat, was killed in a US dronezap in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
in June 2018.
Tolo News adds:
Meanwhile, some sources said that Khurasani was present in the negotiations which were reportedly held between the TTP and Pakistani government in Kabul.

The political analysts gave various views on the killing of Khurasani.

“To gain money and weapons from the US, (Pakistan) should always declare an enemy and that enemy is now TTP. This is an enemy who could be controlled everywhere and they can eliminate it anywhere they want to,” said Sher Hassan Hassan, a political analyst.

“I think there are disagreements among the TTP. Usually, whenever there are peace negotiations, the hardliners are on one side and the moderates are on the other side. I think it is about the internal disagreements among the TTP,” said Waheed Faqiri, a political analyst.

Khurasani was the chief of Jamat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a TTP branch that is designated a terrorist group by the United Nations and United States, according to Reuters.

Pakistan's anti-terrorism court sentences Hafiz Saeed in terror financing cases
2022-04-10
[GREATERKASHMIR] An anti-terrorism court in Pakistain on Friday sentenced Mumbai terror attack criminal mastermind and banned Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat. He is periodically placed under house arrest so it looks like the govt is doing something. Once the heat is off they let him go....
to 32 years in jail in two more terror financing cases.
Will this be served as unsupervised house arrest or in one of those cushy jail cells suitable for receiving visitors of high rank? Assuredly the government of Pakistan would not shove him among the regular prisoners. One can’t possibly receive visitors properly under such conditions.

What you should know about this Tamil Nadu outfit whose members threatened judges in hijab case
2022-03-26
A few days ago we thought we knew that TNTJ is a dawa (Muslim outreach) group established in 2004 that claims to be apolitical. Oddly enough, they found it necessary a few years ago to fire the founder for getting taped interfering with a plural number of women. Here’s what the Indians say:
[OneIndia] Courtesy the hijab issue created by some motivated individuals in Karnataka, the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) is back in the news. Three members of the TNTJ, Rahamatullah from Madurai, Covai Rahamathulla from Tirunelveli and S Jamal Mohammad Usmani from Thanjavur were arrested for threatening the judges of the Karnataka High Court over the hijab case.

These persons had issued a death threat to the judges who delivered the verdict in the case.

This group was formed in 2004 and was in the news following the Sri Lankan suicide kabooms of 2019.

However the group clarified that it had no role in the attack. The Indian connection to the blasts were found by the Intelligence agencies. The criminal mastermind behind the attack, Zahran Hashm was a follower of the TNTJ's founder P Jainulabdeen. However Jainulabdeen was expelled from the outfit for alleged sexual misconduct and misappropriation of funds in 2019.

The Bengaluru police had filed a case after a video of Rahamatullah surfaced in which he is heard saying that if the judges get killed they themselves will be responsible for the same. He also cites an incident from Jharkhand when a judge was mowed down while going on a morning walk. He says that people know where the CJ goes for a walk in the morning.

In a statement, the TNTJ said, "we want to make it clear that the actions of these few individuals who have been arrested do not reflect the views of the TNTJ outfit as a whole in any manner. Further, we don't even resort to protests that go as far as road rokos as it would cause inconvenience to the common public. There are untrue messages being spread tarnishing the image of the TNTJ."

The outfit's name had cropped when the NIA filed a chargesheet against one Mohammad Naseer in 2016. Naseer was heading to Libya from Sudan, but was apprehended and later deported to India.

He did his computer engineering from the MNM college in Chennai. It was at this time that he would visit a mosque at Chennai which was run by the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath, non-political Islamic Organisation that preaches a puritanical version of Islam.

In 2015, the NIA had raided three locations of the TNTJ for their alleged terror links. In 2015, the Chennai police an FIR against the group following a complaint by an American national who accused the group of assaulting him for attempting to convert Moslems to Christianity. In 2019, a member of the group Faisal was arrested for his hate speech against Union Home Minister, Amit Shah.

In January 2021 tensions prevailed in the Mannady area of Chennai after members of the TNTJ protested actions of the Deputy Custodian of the Enemy Property Act of trying to seal their office. The officials alleged that the headquarters was being used for purposes other than what is declared. The TNTJ however said that the party pays Rs 4 lakh rent every year to the Union Government and is ready to purchase the property if the government is ready to sell it.
