Islamic group seeking to destroy Israel, create caliphate to hold Canada conference
2025-01-11
[Jpost] Hizb ut Tahrir will be holding its annual Khilafah 2025 in Hamilton, Ontario, according to Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who had objected to the group holding the event in her city.

A group seeking to destroy the State of Israel and replace southern European, Middle Eastern, and African countries with an Islamic caliphate is set to hold a conference in Canada next Saturday.

Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
will be holding its annual Khilafah event in Hamilton, Ontario, according to Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who had objected to the group holding the event in her city.

After the Islamic group — which has been banned in many countries, including the United Kingdom and Germany — indicated in advertisements that it was moving its January 18 event to Hamilton, Parrish said on X/Twitter that she was "pleased that the peaceful and respectful residents of Mississauga will not have to endure the fall out" of the "extremists" conference.

Parrish had warned on social media Friday that the city’s conditions of use for renting facilities allowed it to remove permits for organizations that exhibit "contempt or hatred." Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath issued a similar statement about the rental of city facilities on Monday, in which she also noted that she was in close contact with the Hamilton Police Service about monitoring the situation.

"There is absolutely no place in our city for individuals or groups spreading messages of division or tolerance," said Horwath.

HIZB UT TAHRIR CANADA DENIES IT'S A VIOLENT ORGANIZATION
Hizbut Tahrir Canada denied that it was a violent mostly peaceful organization in a Monday statement, assuring that it categorically rejected the use of violence in its objective to establish a caliphate in the Moslem world.

"The accusations linking the party to terrorism, extremism, and violent mostly peaceful activities are fabrications aimed at tarnishing its reputation and distracting from its call to establish Islam as a comprehensive system of governance and mercy for humanity," said HT Canada.

"The party operates in adherence to the Islamic prohibition of violence in political work, relying instead on intellectual engagement and political struggle to build public opinion and bring about societal change. Such baseless allegations are part of a wider effort to distort the image of Hizbut Tahrir and suppress its legitimate political call."

Advertisements for the Khilafah conference highlight the territory that HT wishes to establish the Khalifah (Caliphate), including Spain, Greece, India, much of the Balkans, and the upper half of Africa.
Noted.
The conference, subtitled "The Khilafah: Eliminating the Obstacles that are Delaying its Return," includes lectures on how nation-states are the enemies of Islam, how the US and colonial powers fear a restored Caliphate and how it could defeat America, and how only a caliphate would be able to "liberate Paleostine."
True.
On the HT Canada website, the group claimed that Moslem states didn’t come to the aid of Paleostinians because they were ruled by Western puppets and that the only way peace would reign was when Moslems and non-Moslems in the Levant would reside under the caliphate.

"SEEING THE carnage that the State of Israel has wreaked, not only in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, the West Bank, and Leb
...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?...
but also on the leadership of resistance groups, it is easy to lose hope," HT Canada said in an October article.
Y’all losing hope is a wonderful thing. Carry on.
"Instead of distracting ourselves by focusing on local MPs who are not allowed to challenge Zionism or watching resistance videos hoping for some victory to fall from the heavens without sufficient effort on our part, we should commit ourselves to the only thing that can liberate our brothers and sisters and honor the blood of our deaders: toppling the puppet regimes in the Moslem world and replacing them with a righteous Islamic leadership.
You just got Syria, but Iran will soon be lost to the cause, and the Gulf states are moderating . Interesting times, indeed.
"It is such a leadership that will cut off the State of Israel from the supplies it desperately needs to sustain its occupation and expansion, currently supplied to it by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
, Jordan, and the UAE."

In a draft constitution on its website, in which HT Canada explained how a jizya tax would be leveled on non-Moslem Caliphate residents, it explained that it would be illegal for the state to have treaties with a polity such as Israel established on "Islamic land" because it was against Islam to surrender Islamic territory.
Dream on, guys. You lost the possibility of Canada when Justin Trudeau announced his resignation. Austria just elected a rightwing, populist government because of the nonsense of your brothers, so your possibilities are shrinking, and in Britain Sir Keir Starmer is on his way out, to be replaced by Nigel Farage. It’s true that Belgium is toast, and France isn’t far behind, but up in Scandanavia things are changing, too, unthinkable as that was a few months ago.
"The situation of actual war has to remain with it, irrespective if there was a truce which was contracted with it by illegitimate rulers in the Moslem lands," reads the proposed caliphate constitution. "Islam requires that all of the Moslems fight against it, and so their armies must be sent to fight, and all those capable of fighting be gathered in the army, and for this to continue until the Jewish state is finished."

Hizbut Tahrir, founded in Jerusalem in 1953, is against liberal democracy, according to the Canadian chapter website.

Toronto-St. Paul’s Parliament Member Don Stewart said on social media on Sunday that not only should the conference be prevented from being held in Canada, but the organization should not be allowed to operate in the country. Stewart warned that Canada would be made part of a global caliphate.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs on Tuesday also called on authorities to stop the conference and to designate the "antisemitic" Hizbut Tahrir as a terrorist organization. On Sunday, CIJA noted on social media that the organization was proscribed as a terrorist organization in the UK. Then-home secretary James Cleverly said the UK had made the decision because it promoted and encouraged terrorism and praised attacks against Jewish people and the October 7 massacre.

Germany banned the party in 2003 because the group rejected peaceful coexistence with Israel and advocated armed violence against Israel and Jews. According to Rooters, Egypt, Bangladesh, and Pakistain have also banned Hizbut Tahrir.

Only breadwinner of family Latif spending days at hospital with uncertainty
2024-09-14
[DhakaTribune] Abdul Latif, a 48-year-old shopkeeper from Lakshmipur district, is in critical condition at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after being brutally attacked by Chhatra League and Jubo League activists.

The attack occurred during a celebratory procession following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Latif, the sole provider for his family, was severely injured on August 6 in Bhuiyan Haat, Char Ramich Union, Ramgati upazila.

As he participated in the procession, he was targeted by a group from Chhatra League and Jubo League, who attacked him with machetes, sticks, and rods, causing severe injuries including a large wound in his abdomen.

His intestines were exposed due to the continuous assault.

Local residents who witnessed the attack helped to stabilize Latif's injuries with a cloth before he was rushed to a nearby Sadar hospital.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to DMCH and admitted at 11pm on the same day.

He underwent a lengthy surgery from 12:30am to 5:30am on August 7.

Latif's wife, Bibi Asiya, expressed her anguish, stating that the family is struggling to cope with the financial strain caused by her husband's inability to work. With Latif unable to walk and an uncertain recovery timeline, the family faces severe hardship. Their home in Lakshmipur has also been flooded, adding to their difficulties.
But he had time to be in a "procession"
Asiya has appealed for financial support from the community to help her family through this challenging time.

The violence is linked to a larger political crisis involving student protests and violent clashes with political groups and law enforcement.

The recent unrest has led to widespread casualties, with over a thousand people reported killed in various incidents, including police shootings.

Following the "red movement" and "Bangla Spring," which led to significant unrest, Sheikh Hasina's government was dislodged, and a 17-member interim government led by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus was sworn in on August 8.

Hizb ut Tahrir Bangladesh wants withdrawal of its ban
2024-09-12
[NEWAGEBD] Leaders of Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
Bangladesh at a press conference on Monday called on the interim government to withdraw the ban imposed on it by deposed Sheikh Hasina government.

Hizb ut Tahrir organised the press conference at the National Press Club where its central leader Imtiaz Selim said that the Awami League government had imposed the ban on the party unlawfully in 2009.

Imtiaz Selim said that, after the formation of the party in 2007, their party was not involved in any criminal and anti-state activities and Sheikh Hasina government had imposed the ban failing to face us politically.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, situation has changed and the ban on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is already lifted, Imtiaz said.

So, we hope that the interim government will lift the ban on our party immediately, Imtiaz said.

At the press conference, lawyer Nur Mohammad said that on behalf of Hizb ut Tahrir, they had filed a petition with the home ministry on September 5 in 2024 to withdraw the ban.

Awami League government imposed the ban on the party through a press note on October 22 in 2009, which was not valid as it was not acceptable under section 18(1) of anti-terrorism law 2009, Nur Mohammad said.

Nur Mohammad hoped that the interim government would take steps to withdraw the ban imposed on Hizb ut Tahrir.

Tunisia Ups Security as Salafists Vow to Defy Ban
2013-05-19
[Naharnet] Tunisian security forces deployed in strength on Saturday after Salafist movement Ansar al-Sharia
...a Yemeni Islamist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends...
called on its hardline Islamist supporters to defy a government ban on its annual congress.

There was a heavy police presence at tollbooths along the main highway from the capital to the central city of Kairouan where the Salafists
...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them...
have vowed to hold Sunday's gathering, Agence La Belle France Presse correspondents reported.

Police were singling out for checks the private minibuses that ply between Tunisian towns, with special attention paid to men with beards, as sported by Salafists.

Inside the city, helicopters hovered overhead and police checkpoints were set up, while special units were deployed in the square facing the mosque which is the venue for the congress.

A local police officer, declining to be named, said: "We have taken all measures to ensure the meeting does not go ahead... We will not allow those coming for this congress to enter the city."

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia had made her point with her knee to Jane's stomach...
maps were posted on Facebook pages close to the Salafist movement locating the checkpoints and possible routes to avoid them.

Ansar al-Sharia had urged its supporters to travel to the venue in groups in a bid to get past police.

"We advise our brothers coming to Kairouan to travel in groups and not to be separated because the agents of the tyrant are blocking most intersections and provoking our brothers by showing their weapons," it said on its Facebook page.

In Tunis, large numbers of police vans and army trucks were visible both in the city center and in neighborhoods regarded as Salafist strongholds.

As tensions mounted, a U.S. embassy travel advisory warned Americans against travelling to Kairouan, saying "large rallies and demonstrations are possible" if the congress goes ahead.

"There is the potential for disruption to traffic in the area of Kairouan and possible confrontations with security forces. The embassy recommends against all travel to Kairouan during this period."

The Salafists have been blamed for a wave of violence across Tunisia, including an attack on the U.S. embassy in September that left four assailants dead.

Ansar al-Sharia is considered the most radical of the bully boy groups that emerged after the 2011 revolution that ousted veteran strongman Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

The group's runaway leader, Saif Allah Bin Hussein, a former al-Qaeda fighter in Afghanistan, warned last week he would wage war against the government led by moderate Islamist party Ennahda, accusing it of policies in breach of Islam.

The interior ministry on Friday said Ansar al-Sharia posed a threat to public order as it confirmed the ban on the planned congress.

"We have decided to prohibit this gathering, which would be in violation of the law and because of the threat it represents to public order," it announced.

Ahead of the ministry's announcement, Ansar al-Sharia, which does not recognize the authority of the state, warned that it would hold the government responsible for any violence.

"We are not asking permission from the government to preach the word of God and we warn against any police intervention to prevent the congress from taking place," front man Seifeddine Rais said.

Rais said more than 40,000 people were expected to attend.

The interior ministry retorted that "all those who defy the authority of the state and its institutions, who try to sow chaos, who incite violence and hatred will bear all the responsibility".

It promised a tough response to "anyone who tries to attack the forces of order" and said the police and army are on "high alert to protect the security of citizens and their property".

Salafist group Hizb ut Tahrir condemned the interior ministry ban but also appealed to Ansar al-Sharia to postpone the congress to avoid bloodshed.

"We say to Ansar al-Sharia that we consider it wise and a priority to announce the postponement of the congress, placing the whole responsibility for it on the government," the group said in a statement.

Otherwise, "Sunday will be a day of bloody confrontation."

The Salafists, who advocate an ultra-conservative brand of Sunni Islam, have been blamed for a spate of attacks on police in recent months.

Hizbut Tahrir hoodwinks police to hold demo
2011-04-19
RAWALPINDI: Activists of banned Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
on Sunday managed to stage a demonstration in front of Liaquat Bagh at Benazir Bhutto Road by hoodwinking police.

The outfit announced to hold a protest at Landa Bazaar near Iqbal Road. As only a few activists reached Iqbal Road, they were easily dispersed by police. One of them, Mohammad Waqas, was tossed in the clink.

In the meantime, more than 100 Hizbut Tahrir activists gathered at Liaquat Bagh. Between the ages of 22 to 28 years, most of the young men were wearing trousers and shirts. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans demanding Khilafaat in the country.

They blocked the road for half an hour, creating traffic jams at adjoining roads, including Liaquat Road, College Road, Tipu Road, and Iqbal Road. They rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the US and the government.

"We held a dummy demonstration to keep the police away," Imran Yousafzai, a front man for Hizbut Tahrir, told Dawn .
It's a "funny once". Next time they'll have to do it somewhere else.
He said as they tried to hold an exhibition in front of the Islamabad Press Club, police tossed in the clink Osama Hanif, Mohammad Naeem and Dr Tahir Banori. The three were released on bail on Saturday.

"We deceived police to save our workers from arrest."

Earlier addressing the gathering, Engineer Junaid Khan, a member of Hizb ut Tahrir, termed Khilafaat as the panacea of all problems faced by the people of Pakistain. He said the American and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the style of the American pants...
forces were killing the innocent people in Pakistain.

He said the wave of change has spread throughout the Mohammedan world. "Under the current system, the rich are becoming richer and the poor only becoming poorer."

He said the West always backed the dictators and exploited the democratic leaders in countries like Pakistain. "People don`t want American and western Raj to continue in the country."

Later, the participants dispersed peacefully.

Britain
Extremist to address Detroit bomber's former student group
2010-01-18
Hamza Andreas Tzortzis will address the University College London Islamic Society on 28 January in a talk entitled "21st century misconceptions of Islam answered."

Mr Tzortzis, a Greek convert, was a trustee of Green Crescent, a British charity placed under investigation by the Charity Commission for links with Islamist terrorism. He resigned his trusteeship after Green Crescent's head, Faisal Mostafa, was arrested and charged with terrorism offences in Bangladesh following the discovery of arms caches at a school run by the charity.

Dr Mostafa has twice stood trial - and been cleared - on terrorism charges in Britain. In 2008, however, he was given a two-year suspended sentence after attempting to board an aeroplane at Manchester airport with a pistol in his suitcase.
How is it he was permitted a pistol, never mind that he was carrying it aboard an airplane?
Mr Tzortzis, although never personally accused of terrorist offences, has called for an Islamic state, expressed his hostility towards Western values and stated that: "We as Muslims reject the idea of freedom of speech, and even of freedom."
Then do shut up, please.
He is rather asking for it, isn't he ...
He is a former researcher for the hardline Hittin Institute and chaired the launch event of iERA, an umbrella organisation hosting many well-known British Muslim extremists who preach opposition to democracy and hatred against homosexuals and Jews. He also has links to the extremist and separatist group Hizb ut Tahrir>Hizb ut Tahrir, which advertises some of his talks on its website.

The UCL Islamic Society was previously chaired by the Detroit bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who security sources say began his journey to radicalisation during his time as a student in London.
Yes, well, we've all been struggling to figure out how that happened.
Among the other radical speakers being hosted by the society next week are Saleem Chagtai, whose blog has called for "offensive jihad" to bring about the "glorious sharia," and Haitham al-Haddad, who has described music as a "prohibited and fake message of love and peace." The week of events, entitled "Islam Awareness Week," is a successor to the "War on Terror Week" organised by Abdulmutallab during his time at UCL.

Last week, The Daily Telegraph reported that senior US government officials accused Britain of not doing enough to tackle extremism, saying the UK has the West's "greatest concentration of active al-Qaeda supporters."

Mr Tzortzis said that he was "shocked" by Dr Mostafa's arrest and said while he was involved with it, Green Crescent had had nothing to do with terrorism. He added: "As can be seen from my work, I am all for positive discussion and dialogue and instead of having a form of soundbite journalism we need a more nuanced debate."
Nuance -- that's what was missing.

Olde Tyme Religion
Barack Obama adviser says Sharia Law is misunderstood
2009-10-10
President Barack Obama's adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, has provoked controversy by appearing on a British television show hosted by a member of an extremist group to talk about Sharia Law. Miss Mogahed, appointed to the President's Council on Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships, said the Western view of Sharia was "oversimplified" and the majority of women around the world associate it with "gender justice".

The White House adviser made the remarks on a London-based TV discussion programme hosted by Ibtihal Bsis, a member of the extremist Hizb ut Tahrir party.

The group believes in the non-violent destruction of Western democracy and the creation of an Islamic state under Sharia Law across the world.

Miss Mogahed appeared alongside Hizb ut Tahrir's national women's officer, Nazreen Nawaz. During the 45-minute discussion, on the Islam Channel programme Muslimah Dilemma earlier this week, the two members of the group made repeated attacks on secular "man-made law" and the West's "lethal cocktail of liberty and capitalism". They called for Sharia Law to be "the source of legislation" and said that women should not be "permitted to hold a position of leadership in government".

Miss Mogahed made no challenge to these demands and said that "promiscuity" and the "breakdown of traditional values" were what Muslims admired least about the West. She said: "I think the reason so many women support Sharia is because they have a very different understanding of sharia than the common perception in Western media.

"The majority of women around the world associate gender justice, or justice for women, with sharia compliance. The portrayal of Sharia has been oversimplified in many cases."

Sharia in its broadest sense is a religious code for living, which decrees such matters as fasting and dressing modestly. However, it has also been interpreted as requiring the separation of men and women.

It also includes the controversial "Hadd offences", crimes with specific penalties set by the Koran and the sayings of the prophet Mohammed. These include death by stoning for adultery and homosexuality and the removal of a hand for theft.

Miss Mogahed admitted that even many Muslims associated Sharia with "maximum criminal punishments" and "laws that... to many people seem unequal to women," but added: "Part of the reason that there is this perception of Sharia is because Sharia is not well understood and Islam as a faith is not well understood."

The video of the broadcast has now been prominently posted on the front page of Hizb ut Tahrir's website.

Miss Mogahed, who was born in Egypt and moved to America at the age of five, is the first veiled Muslim woman to serve in the White House. Her appointment was seen as a sign of the Obama administration's determination to reach out to the Muslim world.

She is also the executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, a project which aims to scientifically sample public opinion in the Muslim world.

During this week's broadcast, she described her White House role as "to convey... to the President and other public officials what it is Muslims want."
What do we want?
Sharia and the caliphate!!
When do we want it?
Now!!!
Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said Miss Mogahed was "downplaying" Sharia Law. "There is a reason sharia has got a bad name and it is how it has been exercised. Regrettably in the US there have been acts of injustice perpetrated against women that are driven by the Sharia-type mindset that women are objects not human beings," she said.

She cited the example of Muzzammil Hassan, a Buffalo man who ran a cable channel aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes and was charged earlier this year with beheading his wife after she filed for divorce. "Americans understand by example, it's not as if we are an ignorant mass of people. Just as we don't broad brush all Muslims, so should Dalia not downplay the serious nature of sharia law."

Fifth Column
Hizb ut-Tahrir America Enters Public Stage
2009-06-24
Hizb ut-Tahrir America (HTA)
A feeder organization to islamic jihad and terrorist groups
has indicated that it has transitioned from its covert status to a public phase of operations by issuing an announcement, signed in its own name, that it will host a conference in July 2009 to support the establishment of a Caliphate. The promotional video can be viewed on YouTube. The event, titled "The Fall of Capitalism and Rise of Islam," is scheduled for Sunday, July 19th, 2009, at the Aqsa School in Bridgeview, Illinois.

Bridgeview is a suburb of Chicago. Chicago has been a major hub of HTA's activities for the past ten years, approximately. According to information available on the internet, the Aqsa School is a private Islamic primary and secondary school. Although HTA's Khilafah conference will be held at the school, there is no public indication that the school, its staff, or its board members are directly involved with HTA.

Last fall, after HTA issued a leaflet in its own name calling for Muslims not to participate in the U.S. elections, I wrote a brief post on CTB about the possible transition of HTA to the second stage of its development. According to party doctrine, Hizb ut Tahrir (HT) implements its strategy in three stages--The first stage is the covert level of development in which members are recruited and trained. In the second stage, members promote the party's methods and objectives publicly in order to win the support of the Muslim population. The final stage is the establishment of an Islamic government and military, in order to carry HT's "message to the world."

Indeed, HTA's announcement that it will host the Khilafah conference in July indicates that the U.S.-based branch now perceives itself as solidly prepared to emerge from its covert status into the second stage. HTA has held Khilafah conferences, and other major conferences, in the past, but has only done so from behind fronts and covers.

Radical PvdA Councillor Refusing to Resign
2008-01-27
Follow up to that story.
ROTTERDAM - Labour (PvdA) politician Bouchra Ismaili is refusing to resign. She is ignoring requests from her party to step down because she lied about signing a petition of the radical Muslim organisation Hizb Ut Tahrir.

Ismaili, a Muslim immigrant of Moroccan origin, is a PvdA member of Rotterdam's Charlois district council. Last week, she wrote in an e-mail to a citizen: "You filthy idiot. WE ARE HERE TO STAY hahahahahahhahah DROP DEAD". The email contained reams more similar remarks and urged the man to convert to Islam.

Ismaili's email was a reply to an email in which the citizen, Jos Parbleu, had confronted the council member with statements by Okay Pala, a spokesman for Hizb ut-Tahrir Nederland. Pala had said in newspaper De Telegraaf: 'We do not agree with freedom of expression, as we reject democracy' and 'what you need is a big bomb attack!'

The PvdA leadership in Charlois did not consider it necessary to boot Ismaili out. But meanwhile, during a meeting of Charlois district council, it has become clear that Ismaili also signed a petition from Hizb Ut Tahrir and lied about it. The Hizb ut Tahrir petition stated: "It is time to rid ourselves of a culture that damages our Islam." Initially, Ismaili denied emphatically that she signed the petition. But when opposition party Liveable Rotterdam (LR) produced a printout of the Internet page with her signature, she had to admit it.

Ismaili said after being unmasked by Liveable Rotterdam that she felt ashamed because she had "embarrassed the Muslim community in the Netherlands." Both Ismaili and her PvdA colleagues rushed out of the building after the meeting and declined to comment further.

Yesterday, the PvdA decided after all that Ismaili should resign because she lied. But a spokesperson for Ismaili stated she was not prepared to leave the Charlois council. The PvdA cannot force her to resign.

Hizb Ut Tahrir is banned in Germany due to its extremist and anti-Semitic character, but not in the Netherlands. The national PvdA did not want to comment.

Copenhagen: Hizb ut-Tahrir "celebrates" at annual congress
2007-08-28
Sunday’s national meeting for the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir included incitement to destroy Israel and a re-establishment of the Caliphate Islamic empire

Controversial Islamic organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir celebrated its annual congress in Copenhagen on Sunday with words of anger against Jews and the West, reported daily free newspaper Nyhedsavisen.
Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the muuuusic!
Nearly 600 Muslims attended the meeting at KB Hallen in the city’s enclave of Frederiksberg, where religious leaders spoke of the rise of an new Islamic Caliphate and the fall of Western powers.
... including Denmark
‘The Caliphate can arrive in an hour, two months or two years from now,’ said Fadi Abdullatif, Hizb ut-Tahrir’s president, who owns a previous conviction for publicly urging his members to kill Jews. ‘We are working for a Caliphate from Morocco to Indonesia and from Khazakhstan to Saudi Arabia.’

The union of nations under a common Islamic law could be created by force if necessary, according to another of Hizb ut Tahrir’s leaders, Atta bin Khalil. Khalil also told those in attendance to ‘continue their state of war against the Jewish nation’.

A third speaker at the congress, Emir Shamil, said that ‘heads may roll’ in the recreation of the Caliphate.
Thanks, Denmark!
Many politicians have unsuccessfully attempted to dissolve the organisation in the past, but Sunday’s congress may have been the straw that breaks its back. Nearly all political parties are in agreement that some type of action must be taken against the organisation.

‘The sooner the organisation is broken up the better,’ said Tom Behnke, the Conservative judicial spokesperson.

The Social Liberals cultural spokesperson, Simon Emil Ammitzbøll, is now requesting the Justice Ministry to conduct surveillance on Hizb ut-Tahrir, saying the congress proved that it is not merely individual members inciting racial and religious violence but the organisation as a whole.

Hizb ut-Tahrir has more than one million members worldwide and an estimated 200 full-time members within Denmark.

Ameer Ali: Banning Muslim group 'would be dangerous'
2007-01-28
A leading Muslim says the Federal Government is right to allow the controversial Islamic group, Hizb ut Tahrir, to practice in Australia.

There have been calls for the group to be banned following a conference in Sydney's south-west yesterday, which focused on creating an Islamic super state with sharia law somewhere in the world.

But former chairman of the Federal Government's Muslim Community Reference Group, Dr Ameer Ali, says banning the group and its controversial teachings could do more harm than good.

"That call may be appropriate in a Muslim country, but it is totally inappropriate to Australia," he said.

"Therefore they have to be monitored in what they are saying, but to ban them is not a wise move, because once you ban them, they go underground. That is much more dangerous."

However, Dr Ali is concerned the conference held by the group may further damage the community's perceptions of the faith.

He says the best way to deal with the group is to engage moderate Muslims to counter its views.

"These youngsters don't realise the damage they are doing to the mainstream Muslim community in this country," he said.

"So I'd say let them do whatever they want to do, but there must be some line - we draw a line beyond which they have to be monitored very closely.

"And I think the law enforcement authorities must monitor them."

Federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock says there is insufficient evidence to ban the group.

But chair of the Community Relations Commission, Stepan Kerkyasharian, says Hizb ut Tahrir is overstepping the mark.

"If people are going to hold public meetings calling for a way of life and our institutions to be replaced by some other system, then they are definitely crossing the line," he said.

"It's not acceptable in our society and it's tantamount to calling for a revolution."

Radical Group May Declare Islamic Caliphate in Gaza
2006-08-26
Encouraged by Hizballah's perceived victory in Lebanon, another radical Islamic party may declare an Islamic caliphate in the Gaza Strip on Friday, another step in its effort to see Islam rule the world.

The Hizb ut-Tahrir (Liberation Party) advocates replacing all Muslim governments in the world with one Islamic leader who would then declare the establishment of a worldwide Islamic caliphate.

Although the move has been described as largely symbolic, it highlights a growing trend among Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, analysts say.

Hizb ut-Tahrir, an international Sunni Islamic movement, has gained popularity with Palestinians since Hizballah put up more of a fight in southern Lebanon than Israel and the world expected.

The group rallied thousands of Palestinians to take part in a demonstration in Gaza City on Tuesday, which marked the anniversary of the collapse of the Ottoman Empire (the Islamic Turkish Empire that ruled the Middle East for some 400 years).

According to the Jerusalem Post, protesters called for Israel to be wiped off the map and they called for the establishment of an Islamic caliphate to rule the Palestinian Authority.

One observer, who asked not to be named, said the idea of declaring a caliphate is more symbolic than substantial - a sign of increasing support for Hizb ut-Tahrir, which few people took seriously before this. Many people were surprised at the turnout for the rally, he said.

Jordanian officials recently arrested members of the group in Jordan, after their leader, Ramzi Sawalhah, called for the Jordanian monarchy to be replaced by an Islamic caliphate.

Founded in Jordanian-controlled East Jerusalem in the early 1950s, Hizb ut-Tahrir has now spread to some 40 countries, including the U.S. Because the group believes in one Islamic leader, it has tended to shun the idea of becoming involved in local politics.

Islamic expert Dr. Yoram Kahati of the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism said that although the group operates worldwide, Arab states and others have outlawed the group.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair, however, was unsuccessful in banning the group in England, where it is believed to have its headquarters.

"They are not very active," said Kahati. During the years of the Palestinian Authority they opposed the peace process, he said.

Kahati downplayed the significance of a caliphate declaration in the Gaza Strip, saying it would be "meaningless" since most people there are more worried about being able to buy food for their families.

The Hamas government there could have two reactions: either seize the opportunity or dismiss it as irresponsible, he said.

Hizb ut-Tahrir was one of the first groups to develop the radical Islamic ideology that affected many other better-known groups that are active today, said Kahati. Recently, the group did declare itself an official political party in Lebanon, he said.

The group believes in bringing about change through indoctrination and not necessarily through force, said Kahati, though it is not opposed to force. "Only once they come to the conclusion that they have enough power, then they support taking [over] by force," he said.

In May 2003, Dr. Ariel Cohen described Hizb ut-Tahrir as "an emerging threat to American interests in Central and South Asia and the Middle East" in an article on the Heritage Foundation Website.

"Its proclaimed goal is jihad against America and the overthrow of existing political regimes and their replacement with a caliphate, a theocratic dictatorship based on the shari'a (religious Islamic law). The model for Hizb ut Tahrir is the "righteous" caliphate, a militaristic Islamic state that existed in the 7th and 8th centuries under Mohammad and his first four successors, known as the "righteous Caliphs," said Cohen.

On what is described as the official website of Hizb ut-Tahrir the group said it was founded "in order to resume the Islamic way of life and carry the Islamic call to the world."

A commentary on the site described as "political" and dated July 25, 2006 (while the Hizballah-Israel war was in full swing and Hizballah rockets were raining down on Israel) says that weapons should be acquired to vanquish Israel and its allies.

"If 'Israel' is capable of hitting targets through its air force, then the intensive acquisition of missiles, especially if their delivery systems are upgraded to help them track their targets accurately, will paralyze and deter the entity of the Jews. Then they can be confronted and vanquished together with those who stand behind them...

"It has become apparent to anyone with eyesight that the armies of the Muslims are capable of curbing the freak entity of "Israel" and even wiping it out of existence if they had the true resolve and if they acquired the willpower and the effective weapons to fight their battle against the enemies of the [the people]," it said.
