PRC wing, Israeli forces clash in central Gaza |

![]() In a statement, the An-Nasser Brigades said a mortar shell was launched at a force of Israeli soldiers as they attempted to penetrate the Gaza Strip east of the Al-Bureij Refugee Camp. An Israeli military official confirmed the incident, saying a mortar shell was launched in the direction of troops patrolling on the Israeli side of the Gaza border near the Kissufim military base. The official said the launch followed clashes with Palestinian gunmen. According to the military, Palestinians in the area fired an anti-tank projectile at the patrol and opened fire on them. The forces responded by firing at their attackers. The official said there were no casualties or damages, but noted that the mortar shell followed the attack by a few minutes. |

PRC: Gaza armed groups must form united front |

Ma'an -- The An-Nasser Salah Ad-Din Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, put out a call on Saturday for Palestinian resistance groups to form a united front to respond to a recent Israeli attack. The group urged resistance groups to put aside their political differences in order to respond to the Israeli airstrike that killed three fighters, members of Islamic Jihad, in Gaza on Friday. In a statement the An-Nasser Brigades also called for the formation of a permanent, central operation room with a unified leadership for all the armed groups in order to coordinate the fight against Israeli forces. The statement also said that the factions are prepared to respond to a possible Israeli escalation in attacks. |

Armed groups continue attacks against Israeli targets |

![]() The launches were the response of Palestinian fighters to the sixth straight day of Israeli shelling and air assaults on the Gaza Strip that hit about 50 sites on Thursday. At 11am the Al-Qassam Brigades launched a projectile that reached as far as the Netsarim airbase on the edge of the Negev, southeast of Beersheva. Other groups claimed responsibility for several attacks on Israeli targets Thursday: Al-Quds Brigades Islamic Jihad's military wing launched two projectiles at Sderot and Kfar Azza early Thrusday morning. Al-Aqsa Brigades Fatah's military wing in Gaza launched two projectiles at Sderot and western Negev shortly after 7am Thursday and another one before dawn. Later, the armed group said it targeted two more Israeli towns near the border with Gaza. It also said that some of its members escaped death in an Israeli airstrike in eastern Gaza City. National Resistance Brigades The armed group affiliated with the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) launched two projectiles just after midnight on Thursday morning. Al-Mujahedin Brigades The armed group linked to Fatah launched two projectiles at the Israeli monitored Sufa crossing point Thursday morning. "Eagles of Palestine" The previously unknown armed group first claimed to have launched projectiles at Sderot on 30 December. On Thursday they claimed the launch of two more projectiles, one at Sderot and one at Kfar Azza. An-Nasser Brigades The Brigades affiliated with the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) launched two projectiles at the Karem Shalom crossing and the Nerim Kibbutz east of Khan Younis in the early hours of Thursday morning. |

Factions refuse Abbas' call for unity meeting amid Gaza massacre |

Ma'an -- Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the An-Nasser Brigades refused to participate in the all-factions meeting called by President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday, while Fatah officials called for wide participation Hamas leader Muhammad Nazzal made the announcement for his party during an interview with Al-Arabiya television Monday evening. Hamas will not try to make any political gains on the backs of the Gaza massacre, he said. Islamic Jihad sent a statement to Ma'an saying "what is required now is resistance," and further stated that it was the party's duty to defend "our land and our people and respond to the massacres committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip." They called for unity in resistance activities, but spurned Abbas' call for national unity. Abu Abeer with the An-Nasser Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, said that all factions should refuse Abbas' invitation and rally all Gazans, encouraging patience in such harsh times. Senior Fatah leader Ibrahim Abu An-Naja, however, insisted that all factions must gather and assess the bloody events in Gaza. Abu An-Naga sent a statement to Ma'an calling the leaders of all security services to stop political arrests immediately and release all political detainees. He said that now is the time when parties can prepare the political climate for a national reconciliation and save the people of the Gaza Strip. He further called for an end to all media campaigns that further divide the Palestinian people, and asserted the importance of unity in crisis. |

PRC, Islamic Jihad to attend Hamas-sponsored conference in Syria | |

Ma'an A Hamas-sponsored conference of Palestinian factions to be held in Damascus at the end of January is sparking speculation that Hamas is intending to create Palestinian institutions external to the historically hegemonic Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). A leader in the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) called Abu Abeer said on Monday that he received a formal invitation to the three-day meeting, which is to begin on January 23rd. The announcement comes one day after the PLO's Central Council met in the West Bank city of Ramallah. Groups such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad are not members of the PLO.
The An-Nasser Brigades, PRC's armed wing, said they will send a delegation of exiled leaders to take part in the conference, which is meant to reaffirm the struggle for 'inalienable Palestinian rights.' The Popular and the Democratic Fronts for the Liberation of Palestine have decided to boycott the conference while Islamic Jihad is planning to attend. A leader in the Islamic Jihad movement, Khalid Al-Batsh, told Ma'an that his movement would participate because of its emphasis on Palestinian rights. | |

An-Nasser Salah Addin Brigades leader injured in Gaza City |

Ma'an A prominent leader from the An-Nasser Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), was injured on Wednesday evening when Israeli fighter jets launched a missile at a car carrying a group of combatants in the As-Saftawi neighbourhood of northern Gaza City, eyewitnesses told Ma'an's reporter. The spokesperson of the An-Nasser Brigades, Abu Mujahid, said that the outstanding leader "Abu Sha'ban" was moderately injured in an Israeli air raid on his car. "Israeli assassination will not discourage resistance fighters; it will only strengthen their will," Abu Mujahid added. Mu'awiya Hassanain, the director of ambulance and emergency services in the Palestinian health ministry affirmed that ambulances two bystanders were also slightly injured passersby. An Israeli air missile also targeted a car carrying another group of An-Nasser Brigades. No casualties have been reported. |

An-Nasser Brigades: international forces would be "a new occupation" |

Ma'an The military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, the An-Nasser Salah Addin Brigades rejected the idea of deploying international forces in the Palestinian territories on Tuesday. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he agreed with the idea of an international force, which was proposed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Paris donors' conference on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the An-Nasser Salah Addin Brigades, Abu Abeer said, "We will not receive any international forces with flowers; instead we will be ready to blow our bodies in these forces as we will consider them a new occupation which we must get rid of by any means." Consequently, the An-Nasser Brigades also called on President Abbas to resume dialogue with the rival Hamas movement, "before it is too late." |

An-Nasser Brigades leader: 'abduct Israeli soldiers, bomb Israeli cities' |

The Deputy Secretary General of the Popular Resistance Committees' military wing, the An-Nasser Salah Addin Brigades, Abu Ahmad Al-Jad said on Wednesday that "abduction of Israeli soldiers and bombing Israeli cities are the best means to exert pressure on the Israeli government to force them release Palestinian prisoners." Abu Ahmad described Tuesdays massive Israeli incursion in Gaza Strip as the outcome of the Annapolis peace summit held in the US in November. He called on all An-Nasser Brigades' groups to block any Israeli assaults. |

Two killed and nine injured by Israeli forces in Gaza Strip |

Palestinian medical sources also announced on Sunday that nine Palestinian citizens were injured, including two children, near the An-Nada towers in the northern Gaza Strip by an Israeli artillery shell, another citizen is feared dead. Muawiya Hassanein, the director of the Ambulance and Emergency Department of the Palestinian health ministry named five of the injured as twenty-five-year-old Azzam Al-Ajrami, twenty-one-year-old Nidal Abu Rukba, thirty-year-old Jihad Deifallah, ten-year-old Saed Abu Al-Qumsan and seven-year-old Muna Abu Nahil. He said they were sent to Kamal Udwan hospital describing their injuries as serious. Hassanein added that three others were taken to Al-Awda hospital. Cooperation is ongoing with the Israelis to search for the ninth Palestinian believed to have been killed. On Saturday, Israeli forces killed two brothers from Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip as they came close to the Erez crossing at Beit Hanoun. There has been an escalation in Israeli military operations on the Gaza border in the lead up to the Annapolis summit in the US, due to begin on Tuesday. |
