Woman crushed to death by suicidal jumper from 11th floor in Japan - but he survives: Father demands murder charge
[DM] A father has called for a man to face a murder charge in Japan for allegedly crushing his daughter to death while attempting to take his own life.
Surely that could not possibly be more than manslaughter, as there was no intent to kill anyone but himself.
Tomoki Inaba, 23, was walking home with a friend in Nagoya's Sakae district at around 1am on July 19 when Shinsei Taguchi jumped from the 11th floor of the apartment building.

Ms Inaba was crushed by the 29-year-old and was pronounced dead in hospital hours later after suffering a haemorrhagic shock.

But Mr Taguchi survived, according to local news outlet Tokyo Reporter.

After being discharged from hospital in August, he was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence resulting in death.

Mr Taguchi is being assessed by psychiatrists to establish whether he can be held criminally responsible for his actions, according to TBS News.

But the victim's father Kenji Inaba has demanded Mr Taguchi is charged with the murder of his daughter.

Mr Inaba said he has visited the suspect three times in detention, where he claims Mr Taguchi admitted he knew his jump could have cost someone their life.

South Korean police detain man over stabbing of eight people at shopping mall
[Reuters] South Korean police said they had detained a man suspected of stabbing eight people on Tuesday at a shopping mall in the city of Incheon, and the Yonhap news agency said one of the ‌victims was in a life-threatening condition.

Officers are investigating the motive and circumstances of the attack, a police spokesperson said by telephone.

A witness cited by Yonhap said the suspect appeared to have knives tied to both hands and moved through several floors of the shopping mall, attacking people as he went before being subdued by bystanders and handed over to police.

The victims included six women and two men, Yonhap reported. One woman in her 20s underwent surgery at a nearby hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries, it added.

Yonhap said the 59-year-old suspect had previously served a four-year prison sentence for attempted murder.

The suspect has been fitted with ‌an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet since his release in 2019, and had been receiving treatment for mental health issues and alcohol addiction, the Justice Ministry said in a statement.

Incheon, west of Seoul, is home to South Korea's main airport and forms part of the wider Seoul metropolitan area.

South Korea was shaken by a series of stabbing rampages in 2023, including attacks that left multiple people dead and injured.

US soldiers can't be protected from all bioweapons, Army admits amid troubling surge in threats
[FoxNews] A newly signed plan brings biological warfare scenarios into routine combat exercises for the first time

The U.S. Army unveiled its plan to prepare soldiers to fight through biological attacks rather than assume every threat can be stopped.

The newly signed plan bringing biological warfare scenarios into routine combat training as artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology raise new concerns about the weapons America's adversaries could develop in the near future.

"Can we protect every soldier from every possible bio threat? Probably not," Dr. Alison Tamasi, a senior official at the Army's Nuclear and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Agency, told reporters on Monday.

"We can't put them in a bubble," she added.

The shift comes as U.S. officials continue to assess whether Moscow maintains an offensive biological weapons program after a mysterious death in Russia was linked to an anti-plague facility — reviving questions of biological safety and transparency.

Still, the Army hopes their implemented plan will help prepare the force to deploy and fight in biologically contested environments by 2035.

Rather than treating outbreaks primarily as medical emergencies, the military wants commanders, intelligence officers and logistics personnel to prepare for biological threats while continuing to carry out their combat missions.

One of the biggest changes will be bringing biological incidents into major Army combat exercises, forcing commanders to respond to potential outbreaks while continuing their other missions.

Rather than relying on specialized biological exercises, the Army wants troops across different military functions to confront biological threats as part of their regular training.

Tamasi described one scenario involving a simulated norovirus outbreak at a military port. While medical personnel worked to contain the outbreak, logistics officers would have to determine how to keep critical supplies moving.

The example illustrates a broader shift in the Army's approach: Biological threats are no longer being treated solely as medical problems but as potential disruptions to military operations that commanders must be prepared to manage.

"We need to make sure that doctrine is aligned," Tamasi said, explaining that the Army is working to establish how biodefense readiness should be assessed across the force.

The new plan, signed last week, puts into motion the Army's updated biodefense strategy released in September, which sets a goal of preparing soldiers to deploy and fight in biologically contested environments by 2035.

The first two-year implementation cycle will focus on establishing policies, improving coordination across Army organizations and developing personnel with specialized biological expertise. More advanced technologies and acquisition efforts are expected in later phases.

The effort comes amid growing concerns about the potential for artificial intelligence and biotechnology to accelerate the development of biological threats.

Tamasi described those advances as a dual-use challenge, with technologies that can accelerate medical discoveries also potentially enabling new biological threats to emerge more quickly.

Russia remains a particular concern for U.S. national security officials. Washington has long assessed that Moscow maintains an offensive biological weapons program inherited from the Soviet Union, despite Russia's obligations under the Biological Weapons Convention.

The United States renounced offensive biological weapons in 1969 and is also a party to the convention, which prohibits the development, production and stockpiling of biological weapons.

Saudi national accused of planting recording device in OpenAI executive conference room
[FoxBusinessNews] Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, was arrested Oct. 9 and faces federal charges

A Saudi national working as an OpenAI engineer was arrested after allegedly planting a covert recording device inside an executive conference room at the company's San Francisco office, federal authorities announced Tuesday.

Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, was arrested Oct. 9 and charged with using or attempting to use a device to intercept oral communications, according to the Department of Justice.

"FBI and partners arrested this individual after he allegedly concealed a recording device inside his employer's executive conference room to secretly capture sensitive communications about the company’s super intelligence tech," FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X on Tuesday.

"Protecting American SI innovation is critically important and FBI views it as one of our highest counterintelligence priorities," Patel added.

Attorney General Todd Blanche said the alleged attempt was taken "extremely seriously."

"This alleged attempt by a Saudi national to steal sensitive communications from OpenAI was taken extremely seriously," Blanche wrote on X.

"Theft of intellectual property involving cutting-edge super intelligence technology poses a serious threat to our national security," he continued. "[The Justice Department] will continue to take swift action alongside federal law enforcement and our partners at [The Office of the Director of National Intelligence] to protect American innovation and safeguard our nation."

OpenAI discovered the encrypted device Sept. 30 plugged into a USB port on the back of a television in a conference room used for "highly confidential" discussions involving proprietary research, product plans and business opportunities, prosecutors said.

The device, concealed in toilet paper, had allegedly been installed two days earlier.

OpenAI told FOX Business its technical surveillance countermeasures team discovered the device during a Sept. 30 sweep of the conference room.

The company said it has evidence Alfozan intended to deploy additional recording devices in sensitive areas of its offices to secretly record meetings.

Security footage showed Alfozan, who had worked as an OpenAI engineer since July 2025, near the conference room multiple times before the device was discovered, despite lacking authorization to access the room, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors said Alfozan had also searched for information about OpenAI's buildings, meeting rooms, calendars, executive locations and external partner meetings.

A chatbot account associated with Alfozan's spouse that shared identifiers with his account submitted prompts about building and concealing equipment, including a continuous audio recorder, Wi-Fi connectivity, live listening and encrypted storage, authorities said.

The account also allegedly submitted prompts with details matching the device later found at OpenAI.

On Oct. 5, surveillance footage captured Alfozan entering the conference room and appearing to look behind the television where the device had been hidden, according to prosecutors.

That same day, OpenAI security found a second, similar recording device inside a bag Alfozan left unattended in another room, along with his wallet and identification, the DOJ said.

"We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier," OpenAI said in a statement.

The company said it referred the matter to the FBI and found no indication Alfozan improperly accessed or exfiltrated model weights, source code or customer data. He has since been terminated.

OpenAI told FOX Business it coordinated with the FBI on the timing of Alfozan's termination to avoid disrupting the investigation. Between the device's discovery Sept. 30 and his arrest Oct. 9, the company said it gradually restricted his access to systems and offices before placing him on leave and securing his company-issued equipment.

Alfozan was terminated the day of his arrest.

Alfozan made his initial federal court appearance Tuesday. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

The [AI] Emperor has no Clothes
[Reuters] Anthropic and OpenAI have sought significant control over what outside evaluators can publish, concerned that findings could reveal trade secrets, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said last month that external evaluators should have the right to publish key findings "without editorial control.” OpenAI agreed days later, saying assessors should have “editorial independence.”

The AI companies are worried that evaluator staff working inside the companies' walls as part of so-called embedded evaluation ‌could take proprietary information to rivals, according to the people, who declined to be named as the matter was private.

Measures under discussion to prevent intellectual-property leaks include having lab employees observe embedded teams as they work and preventing evaluators embedded at one lab from working at another simultaneously, one of the people added.

But what labs consider crucial intellectual property can overlap with information relevant to judging a model's risk, which can lead to arguments and redactions, said a separate person with knowledge of past dealings with the labs.

Experts have said independence of evaluators is a concern as Anthropic and OpenAI choose who gets to carry out the reviews. Reuters is reporting details of these negotiations between the evaluators and the AI labs for the first time.

The discussions highlight the tension between a need to make the world aware of powerful and potentially dangerous AI and demands to safeguard trade secrets by AI companies seeking trillion-dollar valuations in what could be major IPOs.

The outcome of the talks will help determine how the world scrutinizes a technology that some of its creators warn may be advancing beyond humanity's ability to manage.

Without agreed standards and legislation for independent reviews, some experts said the companies building the most powerful AI models could dictate how their systems are examined, leaving evaluators at the mercy of the labs themselves.

Energy company was warned data centers risked power crisis that now threatens blackouts in 13 states
[DM] America's largest power grid was warned that new data centers were exacerbating an energy crisis that is now risking blackouts in 13 states.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) declared an emergency on Tuesday as it temporarily relaxed pollution rules in a desperate scramble to keep the lights on for millions of Americans.

It comes as PJM Interconnection has faced an onslaught of electricity demand from data centers, which the grid operator forecasts will triple by 2030 to about 29 gigawatts in its Midwest and Mid-Atlantic territory.

The utility firm manages electricity for residents in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC, serving 67 million people.

The rising demand has butted up against years of dwindling net electricity supplies in the region, contributing to a more than 1,000 percent increase in capacity costs since 2024 and a 6.8 gigawatt shortfall that could lead to blackouts.

By 2030, the utility is likely to face a 'loss of load expectation' – the anticipated number of days or hours per year when a power grid's electricity demand exceeds its available generation capacity – between six and 100 times worse than the grid operator had planned for, according to a study commissioned by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.

Only under a scenario with no new data centers would PJM be able to meet its expectations, the study found.

'This analysis sends a clear warning: electricity demand and supply are moving out of balance and the status quo is not sustainable,' Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Chairman Steve DeFrank told Utility Drive, as he urged the power supplier to take immediate action.

#1  Trump Energy Department issues emergency order to prevent blackouts across 13 states amid unusual October heat

The Trump administration has issued an emergency order aimed at preventing potential blackouts across 13 states as unseasonably warm October temperatures strain the electrical grid serving more than 60 million Americans.

The Department of Energy authorized PJM Interconnection, a regional grid operator, to use additional power generation resources as rising electricity demand coincides with scheduled maintenance at power plants and transmission facilities.

The order, issued Monday under Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act, takes effect Tuesday and remains in place through Friday, Oct. 16. It allows certain generating facilities to operate beyond normal restrictions if needed to maintain electricity supplies.

FACTS FOR THOUGHT
Say in 5 years when many of these Data Spy Centers are online. Will there be enough electrical power and water supplied to handle their demands? Without impacting the common citizens?

A typical 1 Gigawatt Nuke or Hydro power plant generally takes 10+ years to plan, approve, build and activate for production. Then there are the issues of water to cool, or power the electrical plants. Then the issues of dealing with a tsunami of Law-Fare, Environmental issues, Eco-System protesters, then the voters feeling the impact the centers and power plants will cause.

BTW: A typical US family house uses about 850+ kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month. A typical American family uses about 300 gallons of water per day.

Some of these data spy centers will use enough, to power 200,000+ homes, and will use 15 Million to 48 Million PLUS gal/day as coolant.

So doing some quick basic math, should the US Home Renters/Owners and voters get use to brown-outs and being told NOT to use their water for outside things lawns, pools, car washing, limit showers, toilet flushes and etc...?
Posted by: NN2N1 || 10/14/2026 6:38 Comments || Top||

#4  They manufactured a crisis over 2 decades by systemstically overloading the grid through legislation, innovation, development and political manipulation. The end goal is to get the mini nukes fast tracked. Prototypes are already in the field. Corporate utilities will be set up to provide power and backfeed the grid, slowly public utilities will wither and die. So the same corp’s that built the DC’s to support the AI running your thermostat and all the other tech in your life, will also be the sole provider if it’s power.

Water for cooling they are already solving for, that was simply a forced error. They went cheap until someone cared to complain and then began investing in solutions.

Notice 2028 as the dates. Remember some states set electric car goals on the early 2030’s s few years ago. Prior to that decksration Seattle stopped permitting new gas stations and renewing existing ones. Concurrently in Seattle 5/2 housing begsn being built with ev chargers in every stall. At full capacity the garage would consume more electricity charging than all condos. using all power combined. But they required so much demand, there was no power source for the garage ev chargers. And that’s one of many. There is and has been a plan.

#6  Why not work on developing low powered processors and peripherals?

For example, AMD processors use far less power than Intel processors for the same amount of work!

Less power required, less energy needed, also less cooling issues.
Posted by: Seeking Cure For Ignorance || 10/14/2026 8:33 Comments || Top||

#7  Once they get the necessary legislation for the reactors I suspect you will see that appear. Look at the the legal framework. They started in states where they exercise tremendous power, like CA, OR and WA. State and local legislation began strangling cost effective power production with major utilities; PSE is forced to sell its MT coal mines to replace with less efficient more expensive renewables, wind and solar. Then develop and build out that infrastructure. At the same time LNG restriction legislation lands. In WA PSE has LNG as a power source. Dams are being attacked, Seattle city light has 40 dams in addition to PSE’s. Mind you PSE currently has a net surplus of power they sell outside of West Wa and even to Canada. Now PSE users will see a 25% increase in their piwer bills over the next 3 years to pay for all this. Only because of state green legislation. First they get the states inline, then work the Federsl legislation. Then you’ll see your energy efficient chips, because then it will be best for them, not now. They like WY, guess why… it’s not because of all the water..,overbuilt power infrastructure to support more power flow through. WY’s existing grid can handle 2x or more its currently demand. Only a few States halve this. The rest must be built out.

#11  - most of the new data centers have their own electrical gas powered generators;

- the grid potential was threatened because a number of baseload plants were out for maintenance

- these were scheduled months ago based on the expected demand but today 14 Oct. was unusually and unexpectedly (at least back in Aug when the scheduling occurred) hot over a wide area within the mid west and mid atlantic thus increasing the demand for air conditioning.

[Breitbart] German police have impounded a humanoid robot and are investigating who, if anyone, was in charge of it when it sexually molested a 16-year-old girl.

A 16-year-old girl was molested and harassed by a humanoid-type robot in the German city of Cologne — which notoriously already has enough of a sex assault problem without introducing Chinese-made robots to the equation — leading police to confiscate the four-foot-tall machine.

The girl was standing outside a burger joint in the German city a little after midnight on Sunday morning when the robot approached her from behind, grabbed her buttocks, and thrusted on her, police said.

The victim alerted police to the attack and officers quickly confiscated the robot, and two cell phones, as evidence. It is said males aged 19 and 16-years-old were controlling the robot and livestreaming it to social media, reports Die Welt.

Part of the police investigation will be to determine whether the robot was under the direct control of one of the boys at the time of the assault or whether it had been operating autonomously, which may influence whether police decide to press ahead with any arrests.

German broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk states whether the robot was under human control or not introduces a novel legal situation, a “legal gray zone”. Their report cited academic Dr Martin Ebers, “resident of the Robotics & AI Law Society (RAILS), Germany, and a Professor of IT Law at the University of Tartu, Estonia”, who said: “If, due to the high degree of autonomy, the consequences of one’s own actions are unpredictable, then current law has a problem. This creates gaps in liability”

Trump moves to strip noncitizens from 2030 census in explosive plan that could redraw America's political map
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The Trump administration is moving to finalize a proposed rule that would exclude millions of noncitizens without a green card from being counted in the 2030 census - a seismic shift that threatens to upend congressional maps and policies for millions.

The proposed rule, if finalized, seeks to exclude individuals living in the US legally with student visas, under Temporary Protected Status designations, or who are here as asylum seekers or refugees.

And it would prohibit the collection of demographic information on race and ethnicity on the questionnaire - information that has long helped lawmakers understand and implement policies aimed at addressing systemic disparities.

Critics have warned that the rule appears to be at odds with the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, and might not survive what is certain to be a raft of swift legal challenges.

More practically, they have warned the chilling effect Trump's proposed rule could have on participation in the census.
Eh? The point is to not count the illegals. If the illegals choose not to participate, that goal is accomplished without any effort whatsoever.
The short, once-per-decade questionnaire impacts the drawing of congressional maps.

And it also impacts the distribution of trillions of dollars in federal funding for low-income populations - including programs aimed at funding education, health care, and food assistance programs, among other things.

The Trump administration's proposed rule was posted to the Federal Register by the Commerce Department last month, and is open for public comment through November 2 - one day before Election Day.

The administration said in posting it that it is reassessing how it collects race and ethnicity data, citing 'substantial doubts about the meaning, significance, and impact of attempting to categorize persons by race and ethnicity' in the national conversation.

They also cited efforts to strip the government of diversity, equity, and inclusion - or so-called 'DEI' efforts.

This is not the first time Trump as president has pushed to revamp the US census.

During his first term, he tried to implement a similar plan for the 2020 census - an effort that was later blocked by the federal courts. The Supreme Court declined to intervene.

And last summer, Trump again ordered the Commerce Department to exclude undocumented immigrants from being counted in the 2030 census

'People who are in our Country illegally will not be counted in the census,' Trump said on social media.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said last month the her office is weighing efforts to challenge the proposed overhaul.

'The Constitution is clear,' James said in a post on social media. 'Every person living in the United States, regardless of immigration status, must be counted in the census.'
Then they need to be marked as illegal, because the Constitution does only gives citizens the right to vote.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
More young Haredim leaving the fold than previously thought, study finds
Similar to the ratio of Jews who leave the faith altogether, whether to conversion or just disconnecting from all Jewish contact. Historically it’s a ratio that waxes and wanes, depending on overall societal conditions — higher when times are either particularly good or particularly bad. It’ll be interesting to learn if the movement from Haredi to regular Israeli society is similarly changeable.
[IsraelTimes] Some 15.3% of ultra-Orthodox men and 11.9% of women secularize by age 30, according to a nonprofit helping Haredim integrate into broader society

Young ultra-Orthodox people are leaving Haredi society at a faster rate than expected, according to data published by the research and strategy division of the nonprofit Yotzim L’shinui.

An estimated 15.3 percent of young Haredi men and 11.9% of young Haredi women leave ultra-Orthodox society by the age of 30, the figures, based on data from Israel’s latest population census, showed.

Several months ago, Yotzim L’shinui, which provides resources for Haredim seeking to integrate into broader society, said in its annual report that the departure rate stood at 13.5% for men and 9.6% for women.

The earlier figure was based on an annual Social Survey conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics based on a sample of several thousand people, while the updated number comes from more detailed data published in the national census, conducted once a decade and covering a sample of over 15% of the population, the organization said.

The data "serves as a wake-up call to all decision-makers regarding the scope of the phenomenon and the urgent need for a national program that will help this population integrate into society in the best possible way," said Adar Anisman, head of Strategy and Research at Yotzim L’Shinui.

Yotzim L’Shinui, along with several other organizations, is calling on the government to adopt a comprehensive national program to help those leaving the community obtain education, enter the workforce, serve in the military and contribute to society.

Those who leave ultra-Orthodox society, often referred to in Hebrew as yotzim (those who leave), can face significant challenges as they seek to build lives outside the community. The coalition says many former Haredim fall between existing government programs because they are not recognized as a distinct population.

Other obstacles include a lack of support in the community for those serving in the military, gaps in education and professional training, the cost of housing and education without family financial support, lower wages and the lack of a single government body coordinating assistance.

Studies, including those published by Yotzim L’Shinui, have found that leaving the ultra-Orthodox world is a complicated process, and that many former Haredim preserve some aspects of their former lives, including relationships with family members. About 66% of those leaving the community still identify as being on the spectrum of Haredi society, the organization said.

The issue has taken on added significance as Israel debates the ultra-Orthodox community’s integration into the broader economy and society, including military service, ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections. A new political party, The Haredi Public, is advocating for secular studies, greater workforce participation and military service for Haredim who are not studying full-time in yeshiva, positions that are at odds with those of established ultra-Orthodox factions. That slate is not expected to pass the electoral threshold.

In the coming days, Yotzim L’Shinui plans to approach political parties running for the Knesset and ask them to publicly support the development of a national program. Such a program would be supported by some 73% of the non-Haredi public, according to a survey of 500 non-Haredi Jewish respondents conducted in August.

"Investing in those who leave is first and foremost an investment in Israeli society," said Nachi Pasikov, CEO of Yotzim L’shinui. "It is time for the State of Israel to see those leaving not simply as a population in need of assistance, but as young people who want to integrate, gain an education, work, serve and contribute."

Nurse: Stillbirths EXPLODED After COVID Shots Hit Maternity Wards
[Modernity] A California labor-and-delivery nurse says her Fresno hospital went from a handful of stillbirths a year to more than 20 in a single month once COVID shots were pushed on pregnant women, then answered the pile-up with an email on how to handle the dead.

The same product is now sitting in a federal file parents were told not to worry about. An analysis of the National Health Interview Survey, published yesterday, finds COVID-vaccinated children had higher odds of autism, ADHD, anxiety and special-education use than children who never received the shot, and the authors say the shots in children should stop.

Michelle Spencer has worked the antepartum, postpartum and labor-and-delivery floor at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno since 2017. In interviews that Children’s Health Defense aired, she described the unit before the pregnancy rollout as a place that saw about four stillbirths a year. After the shots started going into pregnant women, she said, it became four a week, and it did not stop.

Back when they took pride in being a wife and mother, yes. Nowdays, they celebrate killing their children... if they have them.
