[CBSnews] A judge on Staten Island has temporarily blocked implementation of New York City's new pied-à-terre tax.
The ruling pauses enforcement on the tax on second properties while a lawsuit brought by a group of homeowners moves forward.
That lawsuit alleges that the city bungled the rollout by including many who live full-time in their homes on a list of 900,000 people who could be subject to the tax [as this first list was unnecessary and allegedly makes recipients of the list into targets of crime], as well as sending letters to 17,000 others [those 17k are the actual potential payers of the tax].

obviously, NYC will appeal, although agreeing to expedite resolution of the homeowner law suit would be appropriate to accompany their appeal

For now, the city has to take down the public tax roll and can't issue any additional notices.

So how does this gobbledygook translate? Shoeless? house with no floor? Earth walkers? hippy foot?
Because it is a term I've never heard of, and it is being sold as a term everyone should have already known since junior high unless you have the education of a pin head.

The French and the Dutch have a version of this.
The French tax aims to control studio apartments for some reason. In the Netherlands, the tax is partly aimed at getting tax money out of the foreign employees in international orgs who only live there a few short times during the year.

#3, I feel your pain. They spring this kind of crap all the time. Remember Obama talking about "single payer"? I never heard any explanation about what that was but I got the distinct impression it was socialized medicine, ie., communism. As for pied-a-terre, as far as I can tell, it literally translates to foot-to-earth. But what does it really mean when Mamdani says it? I think what it really means is communists taxing people out of their homes because they're really just armed robbers.

I'm about tired of hearing taxes tied to "school children". For the most part the kids are fucking idiots these days. The return is not worth the investment.
