Actor Patrick Dempsey says he will not run for U.S. Senate in Maine after being floated as a possible candidate amid uncertainty over Graham Platner’s campaign.
Dempsey, a Maine native, addressed the speculation in an op-ed for the Portland Press Herald, writing that he had been asked several times in recent days whether he would consider running.
"It’s flattering, and I don’t take it lightly," Dempsey wrote. "I love my home state of Maine. I care deeply about the people who live there and, like so many Americans, I’m concerned about the direction our country is heading."
Dempsey, who is best known for playing Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd on "Grey’s Anatomy," said he gave the idea "real thought," but ultimately decided against seeking office So he's still out of work.
"After a lot of thought, I realized the answer is no," he wrote. "Not because public service isn’t honorable — it absolutely is. But because I believe I can contribute more effectively through the life I’ve already built."
Platner said on Monday that he is weighing his next steps after a woman came forward and said he raped her. Platner denied the allegation.
In the op-ed, Dempsey said Maine deserves a Senate candidate who leads with empathy, integrity and humility. So, not a Democrat?

It would have been the role of a lifetime. Murkowski could have been his costar. He could have delivered lines that would have cut his residual checks in half but his stock portfolio would have been to die for.

[MSN] The View co-host Sunny Hostin proved to be an outlier Tuesday morning when it comes to Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, who faces new allegations of rape and assault. Hostin insisted that despite the evidence against him, she would still "have plugged my nose and would have voted for him anyway" if she was a Maine resident.

@3 Felony conviction and lost her cushy job. I'm ok with her not going to jail. Let her pay for her room & board and medical instead of using tax payer dollars. Given her weight and age, she is at least a Type 2 diabetic and has high blood pressure,so she is is on meds for both.

the fact that Hannah Dugan did not show remorse for her crime should have meant at least some time in prison (I would have thought a month or so)
that argument was made by the prosecution, the Judge thought otherwise

[Reuters] WASHINGTON, July 8 (Reuters) - Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner of Maine suspended his campaign on Wednesday following a string of controversies, including an accusation of sexual assault, that have plunged one of the most competitive races in the 2026 midterm elections into turmoil.
The suspension by the former U.S. Marine and oysterman, in a video posted on social media, is likely to complicate Democrats' efforts to win control of the Senate in the November 3 elections. Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority.
The race in Maine, considered one of the Democrats' best pickup opportunities, will now focus on how the Democrats go about choosing a replacement candidate to take on incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins.
Many Democrats had already questioned Platner's fitness for office before Politico reported on Monday that a woman accused him of forcing her to have sex with him nearly five years ago. CNN followed with a report that the woman accused him of entering her home without permission and raping her while he was intoxicated. Platner flatly denied the allegations.
On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that a former girlfriend of Platner's said he repeatedly removed condoms during sex without her consent, an allegation that Platner's campaign called "categorically false and politically motivated."

Maybe they will swap in Kamala Harris. She has a lot of experience that is relevant to getting things done in DC. Also she was a politician previously.

So the dems saw a weakness in the candidate, albeit their own. They drug up some women from 20 years ago to destroy him. It smells like dead fish.
They did it to Trump and we screamed foul. They did it to Roberts and we screamed foul. As much of a dirtbag this guy is, he deserves to be innocent until proven guilty. This will all go away not that he resigned, no charges, no truth, no justice for either side.
