A raging woman spewing antisemitic hate ripped out a hunk of a Jewish rider’s hair on a Big Apple subway Sunday and screeched, “Jews are eating kids,” according to cops and shocking video.
The suspect, identified by police as Bronx resident Diana Smith, shouted an assortment of vicious remarks against Jews on the crowded C train around 2:15 p.m. in Lower Manhattan before she assaulted a 23-year-old Upper West Side woman, police said.
“I was a ragdoll and I couldn’t defend myself — there should have been a human barricade around me,” the young Orthodox Jewish victim, who asked that her name be withheld, told The Post.
“No one stepped up until it was too late.”
The victim, a nurse and Montreal native, recalled to The Post that she entered the transit system at Jay Street and was riding for one stop when the suspect also hopped on and started speaking to a couple “about the dangers of Jews stealing wealth.”
She then turned to another couple and wildly said, “You could always see the reflection of a Jew,” according to the Jewish woman.
“And then she turned towards me, like very targeted, stared me down, and smiled with this very eerie smile that I’ll never forget,” the nurse said.
“I decided in that moment I really did not want to show fear in the face of that, so I stared at her right back down, and I said, ‘So you see my reflection?’ and she said, ‘Yeah, and I smell it on you too.’”
Part of the encounter was captured on the victim’s phone, which shows Smith’s ugly rhetoric.
“Jews are eating kids,” she shouted.
The tense moment quickly escalated to violence when Smith allegedly placed a hand on the victim’s throat.
A couple of bystanders attempted to defuse the situation, with Smith yelling, “It’s OK for Jews to eat kids, but I can’t choke her down.”
Seconds later, the victim’s phone was knocked to the floor and Smith allegedly had her hands wrapped around her throat, kicking and shoving her to the floor, the 23-year-old said.
Her hair was pulled so forcefully that a clump of it was ripped out.
Once the subway reached the Canal Street stop, the Jewish woman rushed out of the car to get cops’ attention while another straphanger pushed the emergency button, leading to the arrest of Smith.
“When I had to identify her, a ton of people were like, ‘Oh, we saw what happened, are you OK?’ And that was extremely triggering for me, because of course I’m not OK. I kept just thinking, ‘I’m not in Nazi Germany,’” said the woman, who is only 5 feet 3.

“How is this happening, and how is it that you saw what happened, and just were a bystander?”
The victim said she also suffered a concussion from the hateful attack.
Smith is facing charges of hate crime assault, hate crime criminal obstruction of breathing and aggravated harassment, court records show.
“She’s pure evil, but she was lucid enough to know I was Jewish,” the victim said.

There were 41 confirmed hate crimes targeting Jews in the city last month, the data showed.
The figure amounted to 60 percent of all hate crimes in the city in May, marking a slightly higher percentage than normal, and an average of one antisemitic hate crime every 18 hours.
Jews make up about 10% of the city’s population and are targeted in hate crimes in the city more than all other groups combined every month.
Experts say that many or most incidents are likely not reported to police.
Last month, there were three hate crimes targeting Asians, zero against Black people, one against an unspecified ethnicity, one based on gender, one against a Hispanic person, five against Muslims, 10 against unspecified religious groups, five based on sexual orientation, and one against a white person.
The antisemitic hate crimes in May marked a jump of 46% over the average for the previous three months. There were 30 confirmed antisemitic crimes in April, 32 in March, and 21 in February.
The NYPD changed its hate crime reporting in February, shifting from suspected incidents to confirmed incidents, so there is no data on confirmed incidents in January.
After coming under criticism, the police now report both suspected and confirmed incidents.
Suspected antisemitic incidents in the city last month included a rash of swastika graffiti targeting synagogues, Jewish areas, and other sites, vandalism of a kosher bagel shop, and an assault on a subway in Queens.
Police arrested a New York University student on Tuesday for allegedly flying a swastika flag over a university building last month. Alexander Stepnowsky was charged with one count of hate crime burglary, two counts of aggravated harassment, and one count of criminal trespassing as a hate crime, court filings showed. Stepnowsky, who was born in 2002, pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance.
NYU said in a statement that “the symbols that were represented are antisemitic and hateful to every person of conscience; this appalling act violated our sense of community and solidarity.”
“In addition to criminal proceedings, we will immediately pursue our disciplinary procedures, which carry the most severe consequences,” the statement said.
Anti-Jewish crimes last month were up 71% compared to May 2025, as hate crimes against all groups went up 74%.
So far this year, Jews have been targeted in 152 confirmed hate crimes in the city, accounting for 57% of the total — the same percentage as all of 2025.
Hate crimes against all groups increased 8.6% in the first five months of 2025, compared to the same period last year. For Jews, incidents went up 6.3% this year.
The increase in hate crimes is bad news for Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who took office on January 1 and had pledged to combat hatred in the city. The prevalence of hate crimes is affected by a range of factors largely outside of the city government’s control, though, such as broad social trends, national and international news, and the weather. Warmer weather tends to correlate with an increase in hate crimes, for example, as more people come into contact outdoors, which could account for some of the increase last month.
But mostly such crimes correlate to acceptance or rejection by the the mayor and society. When they talk about the Nakhba and shout “Free Palestine”, attacks on Jews increase.
Ahead of Mamdani’s election, Jews in the city expressed fears about his handling of law enforcement due to his past antagonism toward police. Those fears have so far not been borne out. The NYPD in recent months has controlled anti-Zionist protests at synagogues and other locations, and the annual Israel parade on Sunday was one of the most highly-protected events in the city’s history, the NYPD said.

I agree with Mike, I just wonder how soon and how much worse.
In a better world one or more of the passengers would have intervened and subdued the attacker. But the world we live in now, doing so in a major urban area will likely result in the person(s) who intervene being charged with a crime or at the very least being sued in a civil case.
Potentially going to jail or losing almost everything is a strong demotivator.

BREAKING: Al-Qaeda-linked Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) terrorists used FPV drones supplied by Ukraine to attack Malian Air Force and Russian Africa Corps personnel at Mopti Airport in Sévaré, targeting L-39 ground attack/trainer aircraft and a Mi-24 attack helicopter.
The strike highlights the growing use of FPV drones by jihadist groups operating in the Sahel and follows longstanding allegations by Mali and Russia that Ukraine's Military Intelligence Directorate (HUR) has provided support to ISIS and Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorist groups fighting Malian government forces and Russia's Africa Corps.
[Rudaw] Bahrain on Wednesday announced the arrest of more than a dozen individuals accused of "acting as field operatives" tasked with influencing citizens to commit incriminating acts, the Manama’s interior ministry said, adding that the case is linked to previous arrests of individuals reportedly connected to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The Bahraini ministry detailed that 15 individuals were arrested "based on the findings of security investigations and reports regarding previously apprehended individuals in the case of Iranian agents in Bahrain," who are allegedly linked to the IRGC.
The latter suspects had acted as "field operatives tasked with executing inciting directives by attempting to influence citizens," specifically targeting teenagers and young adults to encourage them to engage in "legally criminalized acts."
The ministry had in mid-March reported that the affiliated General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science "managed to arrest four Bahraini individuals and identify a fifth suspect who is a runaway abroad" over their involvement in "communicating and coordinating" with the IRGC through "terrorist elements located in Iran."

The US and Israel launched a large-scale aerial campaign against Iran in late February, striking thousands of targets across the country during six weeks of hostilities.
Tehran responded with thousands of missile and drone attacks across the region - particularly Gulf Arab states - targeting what it said were US assets, and carrying out retaliatory strikes against Israel.

Manama’s measures on Wednesday also came hours after the US military reported that Iranian missile attacks that targeted the Gulf kingdom at dawn the same day were either intercepted or failed.
Iran's foreign ministry later condemned what it said were overnight attacks by the US against an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island, which it said were launched from "two countries in the region" that it later identified as Bahrain and Kuwait.
"These aggressive actions not only violate the [Pakistain-mediated] ceasefire agreement" but "also constitute a flagrant violation of the fundamental principle prohibiting the use of force under Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... Charter and international law," the ministry said.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a Wednesday statement on X that Iranian armed forces "are conducting self-defense strikes on sites the U.S. is permitted to use to attack civilian shipping and violate the ceasefire."
He further warned that "any hostile act will be met with an immediate, decisive response."
[Rudaw] At least 63 people were injured after Iranian drones struck Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, according to Kuwait's health ministry.
The ministry said the injured included civilians, airport employees, and travelers. Seven major emergency surgeries had been performed as of Wednesday, while hospitals remained on high alert amid the ongoing emergency response.
“Sixty-three injured individuals were received and distributed among hospitals according to national emergency plans, ensuring the smooth flow of health services and optimal utilization of clinical and specialized capacities,” read the ministry in a statement.
Kuwait activated emergency plans across all health institutions and raised readiness levels immediately after the attack. Medical, nursing, and technical staff were mobilized, while 25 ambulances and emergency teams were dispatched to the airport to conduct triage operations, provide first aid, and transport casualties to hospitals.
According to the ministry, the injuries ranged from severe and multiple trauma cases to smoke inhalation, with victims suffering fractures, head injuries, cerebral hemorrhages, amputations, and wounds caused by explosions.
The attack occurred after several Iranian drones struck Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, causing significant material damage, according to Kuwait's defense ministry. Kuwait condemned the incident as Iranian aggression and said security forces remain on full alert.
Kuwait's civil aviation authorities suspended flights following the strike and diverted air traffic to alternative airports.
The incident came amid renewed exchanges between the United States and Iran. The two sides traded fresh military strikes overnight after US Central Command (CENTCOM) disabled an oil tanker heading toward an Iranian port in the Strait of Hormuz, while negotiations aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire remain stalled.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it launched drones and missiles in response to what it described as American aggression. Tehran later condemned US strikes on the tanker and accused Kuwait of facilitating American operations.

“This decision comes in the wake of ongoing and brutal Iranian attacks using ballistic missiles and drones,” the ministry said, pointing to the assaults that “were renewed at dawn today [Wednesday], targeting several civilian facilities and vital installations, including Kuwait International Airport, which resulted in the death of one person and the injury of dozens of civilians, as well as material damage to vital infrastructure and diplomatic premises.”

The Kuwaiti foreign ministry also affirmed the Sheikhdom’s “full and inherent right to take appropriate measures to respond” to the “repeated Iranian attacks, in accordance with international law.”
Of note, the Iranian attacks on facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain on Wednesday prompted widespread condemnation from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its member states, which, alongside Kuwait and Bahrain include Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi denounced the assaults, saying they are indicative of “Iran’s continued pursuit of hostile policies aimed at undermining regional security, in blatant defiance of international law.” He stressed that this requires a “firm international stance” to put an end to these “dangerous Iranian aggressive practices.”

Britannia’s interior minister accused activists of hijacking a tragedy to stir up violence after police were attacked at a protest over the death of a teenager who was handcuffed as he lay dying while his killer stood nearby.
Police were pelted with chairs, cans, rocks, and flares on Tuesday by some of the hundreds of people who attended a protest in the English southern coastal city of Southampton, where Henry Nowak was killed in December. Two people were arrested, and 11 officers and a police dog were maimed, police said.
Nowak’s death has triggered debates about policing and knife crime and has spurred claims by far-right activists and politicians that there is bias against white people in the justice system.
Nowak’s killer, Vickrum Digwa, who is Sikh, falsely claimed he was the victim of a racist assault by 18-year-old Nowak, who was white. When coppers arrived, they initially treated the maimed man as a suspect before noticing his injury and trying to resuscitate him.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Wednesday that the case had left "serious questions to answer, including how accusations of racism informed police thinking." But he called the street violence "disgraceful and completely unacceptable."
For the right, nowadays, street violence is the last resort after popular anger about completely avoidable tragedy is blown off as an overreaction by stupid bigots instead of acted on as a longstanding and legitimate concern. Contrast with the modern left, who choose violence as an opening move to intimidate the populace into silent acquiescence.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said Nowak’s family had "made a powerful call to us all yesterday to not let Henry’s death be used to create further division, hatred or tension."
"There can be no justification for hijacking this tragedy to stir up violence and disorder. Those responsible can expect to face the full force of the law," she said.
Digwa, 23, was convicted of murder and sentenced Monday to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years. The judge said he didn’t believe Nowak had said anything racist to his attacker.
After the sentencing, police released video showing officers dismissing Nowak when he told them he had been stabbed and repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct, which investigates allegations of police wrongdoing, is probing the actions of the officers from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. The National Police Chiefs’ Council said it will review its anti-racism guidance in the wake of the killing.
After the sentencing hearing, the victim’s father, Mark Nowak, said the case was not about racism or religion, and that he wanted his son’s death to lead to safer streets and not to be used to create "further division, hatred or tension."
But Nigel Farage, leader of the anti-immigration Reform UK party, said on Tuesday that it was an example of so-called two-tier policing — a popular far-right talking point that claims ethnic minorities are better treated than white people.
Farage urged people to respond to the incident with "pure cold rage," and said, "white lives matter just as much as Black lives." X owner Elon Musk and British far-right activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, known as Tommy Robinson, have also expressed outrage at the crime.
Starmer said Farage’s "appeal for rage" was "unforgivable."
"I don’t believe there’s two-tier policing in this country," he said Wednesday in the House of Commons. "I’m really shocked that he pretends to have respect for Henry’s family and then acts in this way."
In the wake of the killing, some politicians have called for Sikhs to be banned from carrying ceremonial knives, known as kirpans. The judge said Digwa had a small kirpan but also had an 8-inch (21-centimeter) sheathed Sikh dagger that was used as the weapon to kill Nowak.
Hampshire Police chief constable Alexis Boon said he understood the "desire for answers and accountability."
"But that must be done in the right way and not used as an excuse to threaten and intimidate my officers and bring violence to our streets, causing fear and harm to those living and working in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight," he said.

A Fox News Digital investigation, gathering information on the ground in Newark, in secret chat groups on Signal and from scores of tax filings, strategy documents and social media posts, reveals the protests outside Delaney Hall are no organic outpouring of spontaneous rage. They are the result of years of strategic planning by a network of well-funded, well-organized groups that have once again exploited a local controversy to wage a wider attack on federal immigration policies and the U.S. in general.
The activities of this network have motivated a group of tech sleuths on the X — @DataRepublican, @Astrarce, @bitchuneedsoap and @gunshymartyr — to penetrate these groups, their Signal chats and their operations like a digital Avengers squad.
According to Fox News Digital's analysis, the network behind the Delaney Hall protests includes about 100 groups, some of them big names like the ACLU, Indivisible and Democratic Socialists of America. Together, these organizations report collective annual revenues of about $825 million, approximately equal to the annual budget of Newark. The groups didn't respond to requests for comment.
About 70 of the groups have received special designations as charities by the IRS, have status as regular 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofits, as well as labor union 501(c)(5) and 501(c)(6) nonprofits, enjoying tax-deductible donations and certain tax-free benefits. In recent months, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and lawmakers on the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight Committee have launched investigations into the alleged abuse of nonprofit laws to instigate conflict, sow discord and even inspire political violence.
The Delaneny network — which one expert calls the "Delaney Hall 100" — message around shared language assembled in a strategic communications document, called the "Delaney Hall Creator Brief," which Fox News Digital obtained from X user @b----uneedsoap. The strategy document directs content creators to call the detention center a "concentration camp" and label detainees "imprisoned prisoners" and "captives." It tells activists to eschew saying detainees were arrested, but rather assert they were "kidnapped/abducted/taken."
Their tactics mirror the system deployed in Minneapolis earlier this year to protest ICE actions, and military experts say the operations resemble the tactics of an insurgency.
"We should be very concerned about the Delaney Hall 100," said Chuck Flint, a nonprofit expert and former U.S. Senate chief of staff. "Protests like the kind we're seeing outside Delaney Hall are not organic protests. These are manufactured strategic, calculated endeavors by an army of nonprofits meant to push subversive activity. These groups generate annual revenues greater than many of the cities in which they protest. They act like military battalions with the ability to overwhelm a city's public safety resources."
"It's David vs. Goliath," said Flint, who is also a former state prosecutor.
Last weekend, Fox News Digital spotlighted a series of far-left groups that self-identify as socialist, Marxist and communist blending in with immigrant groups. They included Democratic Socialists of America, the U.S. Revolutionary Communist Party, Speak Out Socialist, Refuse Fascism, Freedom Road Socialists Organization, Freedom Socialist Party and the Black Panthers.
Fox News Digital observed tents stocked with respirators, goggles, protective pads, decontamination supplies and other protest-support equipment.
Late last Saturday, controversial Marxist influencer Hasan Piker arrived at the protests for a quick walk-through, wearing a pink gas mask. He told Fox News Digital that he was there to advocate for the demands of the detainees inside, remaining on the scene for less than 30 minutes before driving off.
Later, he responded to Fox News Digital's images of the tents filled with riot-gear provisions and called the supplies "mutual aid."
The preparations for protests Wednesday night offer a window into how the organizations motivate, coordinate, mobilize, focus and discipline their foot soldiers.
By 1:17 p.m., a user, "Pete InDC," shared a video outside the detention facility, with a car honking nonstop and "ICE OUT" drawn in chalk on Doremus Avenue.

Toronto police said Wednesday they have charged four more people over two drive-by shooting incidents involving fake guns fired at Jewish people earlier this year.
The suspects are 20-year-old Luka Chokheli and 23-year-old Alishahin Isayev, both from Toronto, a 16-year-old boy also from Toronto, and a 17-year-old girl from Thornhill, police said. They were arrested on May 22.

All have been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon.
"While the weapon involved was an imitation firearm, the victims did not know that at the time," Toronto police Chief Supt. Katherine Stephenson said at a news conference. "They believed they were being shot at, and they experienced the fear and shock that comes with believing that someone is shooting at you."
Isayev and the teenage girl were additionally charged with mischievous interference with property.
The attacks were on April 30 and May 7 and involved victims "visibly identifiable as Jewish," Stephenson said.

“These incidents were not random," Stephenson said. "Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, we allege that members of the Jewish community were deliberately targeted. These incidents appear to have been organized and planned with more than individual involved in the coordination."
Stephenson said the attacks have a "profound effect" on the Jewish community.
"Beyond the individuals directly involved, they create fear, anxiety, and uncertainty for countless others who see themselves reflected in the victims," she said.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs said in a statement that "when Jewish Canadians cannot safely walk the streets of one of the country’s most diverse cities, it is a warning sign for all Canadians."
"The involvement of youth in many of these attacks should serve as a wake-up call," the organization said. "We are witnessing the consequences of radicalization and the normalization of hate. Governments, institutions, and authorities at every level must confront the forces driving this hatred and violence before more Canadians are put at risk."
Last month, 18-year-old Ruslan Novruzov was also arrested in connection with the cases. He was charged with four counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in the wake of the attacks.
Three people standing outside of Chasidei Bobov synagogue in North York in Toronto on May 7 were shot at with a replica firearm.
One person was struck and sustained minor injuries from what apparently was a pellet gun fired from a passing vehicle, police said at the time.
Additionally, Novruzov is alleged to have fired a gel pellet gun at visibly Jewish residents in a drive-by attack a week earlier in the northern part of the city, an area with several synagogues and Jewish schools.
The victims sustained minor injuries.
On Monday, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney said the country is failing Jewish Canadians and the community is being brutally targeted by hate.
Speaking at Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, he announced a new Ministerial Advisory Council on Rights, Equality and Inclusion that will examine the nature, scale and drivers of antisemitism. It will measure its impacts and investments in education, prevention and community safety will follow, his office said.
Carney noted that last year over two-thirds of all religion-motivated hate crimes were directed at Jewish Canadians. Jews make up only one percent of the population.

He added that on Tuesday, "three ISIS murderous Moslems who were locals of the area were killed in a confrontation."
Kakayi said the operation was launched following an attack on May 24, when four members of Iraq’s Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) were killed after an improvised bomb (IED) detonated during an operation.
According to Kakayi, the bomb used in the earlier attack was not an old remnant from ISIS, but a newly planted bomb manufactured by the group.
The PMF said in a statement that a "prominent leader of the remnants of the ISIS terrorist group" and two other members were killed in Nineveh.
The announcement comes days after the Iraqi defense ministry said several alleged ISIS members were killed and their hideouts destroyed during a security operation in Kirkuk.

According to health officials in Gaza, at least nine Paleostinians were killed in strikes on four apartments early on Thursday.
Hassan Labad, the deputy head of the security mechanism, along with bigwigs Asem Shabir, Abdullah Abu Kaloub, and Mohammed Abu Marek, were killed in the strikes, the Israel Defense Forces said.

Gaza health officials said five members of the same family were among the dead. Medics said four apartments were hit, including the family’s home, before dawn. At least 15 other people were maimed.
The fatalities were the latest in the coastal enclave since an October ceasefire deal attempted to halt a more than two-year war between Israel and the Paleostinian terrorist group Hamas in Gaza.
Some 930 Paleostinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the truce began, according to figures from Gaza health officials, who do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. Hamas rarely publishes information about deaths among its fighters.

Ahead of the outbreak of war in February, US Ambassador Mike Huckabee warned citizens to leave the region and similar advisories were issued.
On February 27, the embassy issued a security alert authorizing the embassy’s non-emergency personnel and the family members of those stationed in Israel to leave the country due to "safety risks." The joint Israel and US strikes on Iran began the next morning. Two days later, on March 2, the US State Department urged Americans to immediately leave all of the Middle East from Egypt eastward, including Israel.
On March 3, Huckabee advised US citizens in Israel wishing to leave the country to do so via Egypt, while acknowledging that "the options are fairly limited" for those seeking to get out of Israel.
Trump is under pressure to find a way out of the war, which has delivered a shock to markets and proven unpopular at home as the November midterm elections loom. But in spite of a ceasefire that has largely held since April, progress towards a final deal has been halting and punctuated by sporadic episodes of violence.
The UN’s nuclear agency, meanwhile, said in a confidential report seen by AFP on Thursday that a lack of access to verify nuclear material in Iran posed a "proliferation concern," calling on the Islamic Theocratic Republic to "engage the agency constructively."
"While the agency acknowledged that the military attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities and sites have created an unprecedented situation, it is critical for the agency to conduct verification activities in Iran without delay," the IAEA said in the report.
Washington insists Tehran must turn over its stockpile of near-weapons-grade enriched uranium, agree to curb its nuclear activities and reopen Hormuz. Iran has blocked the strait since the beginning of the war, and the US imposed a blockade of Iranian ports in response.
FOUR IRANIAN TANKERS TRANSIT HORMUZ
On Monday, however, four Iranian-flagged oil tankers passed through the strait, a first since April 15 and the US blockade, according to maritime tracking firm Kpler.
In data published on Thursday, the firm detected the passage of the Hilda I, the Amber, the Silvia 1, and the Happiness I, which were carrying a total of seven million barrels of oil. They all loaded their cargo in mid-April on Kharg Island, the country’s main oil terminal, through which 90 percent of the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s crude oil normally transits. The ships crossed the strait on Monday with their AIS transponders turned off. Kpler relies primarily on satellite imagery to track ships transporting raw materials.
Three other oil tankers linked to Iran had already defied the blockade on April 15, according to Kpler. None had attempted to do so since.

[Rudaw] Iranian authorities have sentenced a young woman detained during January protests to 32 years in prison, amid what rights groups describe as a sharp increase in the execution of political prisoners since the US and Israel launched an aerial bombing campaign in late February.
Maryam Babajani, who was detained during the January protests in the southern city of Izeh, was recently sentenced to 32 years in prison, reported Hengaw, a Norway-based human rights organization that monitors rights violations across Iran, on Wednesday.
The sentence comes as Iran has executed around 30 protesters since February, including two Kurdish protesters - Mehrdad Mohammadinia and Ashkan Maleki - who were hanged over the past two days.
The death penalty remains one of Iran’s most powerful tools of state repression, used to stifle political dissent, intimidate the public, and deter further protests.
Iran has long been accused of using systemic abuse to extract false confessions to charges punishable by death. Detained protesters are often subjected to unfair trials lacking due process. Alleged offenses frequently include posting photos or videos of explosion sites, committing violence against security forces, colluding with foreign powers, owning or operating a Starlink device, or even following “anti-regime” social media accounts.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) routinely refers to anti-government protesters as “opponents,” while threatening deadly crackdowns and mass killings. Authorities have also imposed measures including an 88-day nationwide internet blackout.
According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), more than 41,000 protesters were arrested and thousands were killed during the latest nationwide anti-government protests.
Multiple calls for action have been issued following an Amnesty International report documenting photographic and video evidence since January 8 showing security forces repeatedly firing rifles and shotguns loaded with metal pellets and targeting unarmed protesters in the head and torso from strategic positions on streets, rooftops, residential buildings, mosques, and police stations.
[Rudaw] Iranian authorities have executed another protester detained during the January anti-government demonstrations, the judiciary said, accusing him of killing a security forces member during the unrest.
Fathaoolah Avari, who was detained in Hamedan city during the January protests, was accused of stabbing police officer Major Mahmoudjavad Bakhshian on January 8 at the height of the demonstrations.
The Iranian judiciary said that Avari was hanged without specifying when the execution took place. The Hengaw Human Rights Organization said Avari was executed on Tuesday and was not allowed to see his family for the last time.
Thousands of protesters were gunned down by security forces on January 8 and 9 across Iran, including in Hamedan. At least 30 protesters and political prisoners have also been hanged since February 28, when the US and Israel launched an extensive aerial campaign against Tehran, targeting over 17,000 locations across the country.
“While Major Mohammadjavad Bakhshian was lying on the ground, someone in the crowd used a knife to stab him in the side, causing severe bleeding,” Mizan, the judiciary’s media outlet, said. “After Fathollah Avari was arrested and his residence searched, the murder weapon — a knife, a bloodstained black hoodie, and the same white sneakers seen in CCTV footage from the scene were found.”
Iran has repeatedly used executions as a tool of state repression to stifle dissent.
Thousands of protesters were detained during the anti-government protests across the country, with at least 70 protesters awaiting execution, according to Amnesty International.
At least 32 political prisoners, including protesters, have been executed in recent weeks, with authorities stating they will not refrain from executing those who assisted Israel and the US during the protests and the six-week war that began on February 28.

During the battle near Beaufort Castle, Golani Brigade troops identified two armed Hezbollah terrorists roughly 150 meters from their position. In a rapid response, a tank struck the terrorists before an Israeli Air Force drone completed the elimination.
The operation was part of ongoing efforts to remove Iran-backed Hezbollah threats and prevent further attacks on Israeli civilians and troops.

Soldier killed in anti-tank missile attack as Hezbollah rejects Lebanon ceasefire proposal
[IsraelTimes] An IDF officer was killed in a Hezbollah anti-tank guided missile attack in southern Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... on Thursday, as the Iran-backed terror group rejected a ceasefire plan agreed to by the Lebanese and Israeli governments in US-mediated talks.
The military named the slain officer as Cpt. Eitan Shmuel Lemberg, 21, of the 7th Armored Brigade’s 75th Battalion, from Mishmar HaShiv’a.
At around 4 p.m., a Hezbollah operative fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli tank operating north of the Litani River, killing Lemberg.
Immediately after the attack, the Israel Defense Forces said that it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the area from the air and with artillery.
The deadly incident came a day after Jerusalem and Beirut agreed on a ceasefire contingent on Hezbollah halting attacks, and planned for the Lebanese army to deploy to "pilot" zones in southern Lebanon free from both Hezbollah operatives and IDF troops.
But the terror group’s chief, Naim Qassem ... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies... , rejected the deal as "surrender." Qassem said that his group would keep bombarding northern Israel as long as strikes continue in Lebanon. Qassem also urged the Lebanese government to quit the "farce" of direct talks with Israel. In a written statement read on Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV on Thursday, Qassem said the agreement’s demand that Hezbollah fighters leave southern Lebanon under fire would mean "surrender, defeat and achieving the enemy’s goals."
As long as Lebanese villages are being bombed and people are being killed, northern Israel will not be safe, he said. Israel says it is striking terror operatives plotting attacks against troops and Israeli communities.
"What we are concerned about is an end to the aggression, ceasefire and Israel’s withdrawal," Qassem said. "We did not make any commitment to any party to stop resisting as long as there is occupation."
Despite Qassem’s remarks, US President Donald Trump ...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election. Then he beat Kamala while dodging bullets... later in the day insisted Hezbollah did not reject the ceasefire proposal.
"They didn’t reject me," he said. "They called us, and they said, ’How about stopping.’ And I think you’re going to see things happen over there."
"It would be really nice if Lebanon could have some peace," added Trump, addressing news hounds from the Oval Office. "I spoke to Bibi Netanyahu about that, and I speak to [Lebanon] about it and I actually spoke to Hezbollah about it. And I think progress is made."
He spoke after fighting continued Thursday, with sirens sounding across northern Israel. Hezbollah launched two rockets at IDF troops in Lebanon, causing no injuries.
In the afternoon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was visiting the northern town of Shlomi some 30 minutes before drone warning sirens sounded in the community, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed to The Times of Israel. The premier was unharmed and later left the area. In a meeting with northern leaders in Shlomi, Netanyahu said Israel was "committed to northerners’ security," promising to invest in their recovery, "just as we did in the south," according to the Ynet news site.
"We will continue to act decisively against all threats," Netanyahu was quoted as saying.
Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday said Israel "will, for the time being, continue its fire and operations on the ground." Lebanese state media reported more than a dozen Israeli strikes on Thursday, and said five people were killed. The IDF did not immediately comment.
AOUN SPEAKS OF ’LAST CHANCE’ FOR TRUCE
Israel and Lebanon have formally been at war since the Jewish state’s establishment in 1948.
On Wednesday, Israeli and Lebanese envoys held a fourth round of talks in Washington, agreeing to create a number of "pilot" security zones inside Lebanon from which Hezbollah Lions of Islam would be banned. It was not immediately clear how the security zones would be established, but the agreement calls for the Lebanese army to take full control of those areas.

For its part, Beirut hailed the deal, with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun saying Thursday that an agreement with Israel was the "last chance" to reach a comprehensive truce.
"The results of the fourth round of negotiations, and the statement issued from it, which included very important points in Lebanon’s favor, represent the last chance to enter into a final, comprehensive ceasefire," he said, adding that "each party bears responsibility" if it fails to respond positively.
Aoun said Lebanon would inform the US of its position "as soon as responses are received from the concerned internal parties, particularly Hezbollah," adding that the US would determine the ceasefire’s start date and "Trump will be the direct guarantor of its implementation."

"The latest ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon offers a chance to prevent a return to full-scale hostilities," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas wrote online.
FIVE SAID KILLED IN EASTERN LEBANON
The IDF said "the fighting in southern Lebanon is ongoing," with army front man Col. Avichay Adraee warning residents that "the IDF continues to target Hezbollah facilities and infrastructure located in and near your villages."
He warned residents of southern Lebanon not to travel south of the Zahrani River "until further notice."
"Anyone traveling south is putting their life at risk," Adraee added.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported some 20 strikes in Lebanon’s south and east on Thursday, some causing casualties, including a couple and their daughter who were maimed in an attack on their car.
It also reported that five people were killed in an IDF strike in the eastern Lebanon town of Sohmor, outside of the warned evacuation zone. The strike in the Beqaa Valley town reportedly maimed several others.
The IDF did not immediately issue statements on the targets of Thursday’s strikes.
The military said that on Wednesday, Israeli troops killed a Hezbollah operative in an exchange of fire during ground operations north of the Litani River in southern Lebanon. According to the IDF, the Hezbollah gunman was armed with an AK-47 rifle. Troops of the Givati Brigade’s Reconnaissance Unit identified and then killed him in a close-quarters fight.
PM REPORTEDLY BALKS AT EXPANDED GROUND OP
Netanyahu convened a security consultation late Wednesday night to discuss the situation in Lebanon, where he reportedly balked at plans for a large-scale ground maneuver in the country, citing US pressure against such moves.
During the meeting, the IDF presented the premier and other ministers with a proposal for a large-scale operation in Lebanon, but Netanyahu expressed reservations, Army Radio reported. The report came after Trump intervened earlier this week to stop planned strikes on Beirut and castigated Netanyahu for looking to expand operations against Hezbollah, which the US feels could jeopardize its talks with Iran.
Katz and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir supported the proposal, the report said.
The Prime Minister’s Office did not immediately comment on the Army Radio report or further clarify the ceasefire understandings.
Ben Gvir said a truce was a "grave mistake."
"The state of Lebanon is a partner of Hezbollah," he said. "There are ministers in its government representing Hezbollah, and the families of Hezbollah members serve in the Lebanese army."
"There are moments when you must say ’no,’ even to the president of the United States, and when we don’t do that — we’ll meet Hezbollah next time, when it’s stronger and more dangerous," he warned, calling for a full cabinet meeting and vote on the ceasefire.
UN PEACEKEEPER KILLED BY MORTAR; IDF BLAMES HEZBOLLAH
On the ground, a Serbian peacekeeper stationed with the United Nations ...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships... Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), was killed late Wednesday after mortars hit a UN base in southern Lebanon.
The UN did not issue blame for the strike, though the IDF said its launch trajectory proved it came from Hezbollah.
UNIFIL said mortar shells struck one of its positions near Marjayoun, critically injuring one member of the observer force, who was flown to a hospital in Beirut, where he succumbed to his wounds Thursday morning.
"Two other peacekeepers, who also sustained injuries, are being treated at a medical facility in the UNIFIL base," it said.
UNIFIL said it launched an investigation "to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to this tragic incident." The statement did not mention either Hezbollah or the IDF.
Serbia’s defense ministry said in a statement that "Senior Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic was given emergency medical care at a hospital inside the base after being maimed and then transported by helicopter to the University Medical Centre in Beirut, where he died."
Commenting on the incident, the IDF said it identified several mortar launches "from the Qotrani area, carried out by the Hezbollah terror organization, which fell inside a UNIFIL outpost in the Dibbin area in southern Lebanon."
"An examination of the launch trajectory clearly indicates that the fire was carried out by the Hezbollah terror organization," the IDF said.
In late March, an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed and another later died of his wounds after a projectile hit their base, with a preliminary UN investigation blaming an Israeli tank shell. Shortly after, two more Indonesian Blue Helmets were killed by an improvised bomb, which the same UN investigation found was likely planted by Hezbollah. In April, two French peacekeepers were killed in an ambush that French authorities and the UN attributed to Hezbollah, which denied involvement.

IDF SAYS HEZBOLLAH DRONE NEARLY HIT TOP OFFICER
Separately, the IDF revealed Thursday that an explosive-laden first-person view (FPV) drone launched by Hezbollah struck near IDF Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo as he was visiting southern Lebanon several weeks ago.
The IDF said that "no damage was caused and there were no casualties" in the incident. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits... reports indicated that the drone hit Milo’s vehicle shortly after he exited his car.
Since the incident, the IDF has changed its protocols for visits by senior officers to southern Lebanon.
The latest round of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah began on March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel two days after the US and Israel attacked its main backer, Iran.
Since then, 26 IDF soldiers and one Defense Ministry civilian contractor have been killed in southern Lebanon, 14 of them since a ceasefire was introduced on April 16. Two civilians were also killed by Hezbollah rockets, and an Israeli civilian was mistakenly killed in the north by Israeli artillery shelling.
In Lebanon, the Israeli military has said that it has killed over 2,500 Hezbollah operatives, including hundreds of members of the terror group’s elite Radwan Force, since early March.
