[IsraelTimes] The UJA-Federation of New York, a leading Jewish organization in New York City, is buying 20,000 bags of Bamba snacks in response to an anti-Israel boycott at a prominent Brooklyn food co-op.
The Park Slope Food Coop, a major progressive institution in its neighborhood, voted to boycott Israeli products on Tuesday, capping a long-running dispute among its 17,000 members.
Centrist Jews at the co-op viewed the boycott as discriminatory and, ahead of the vote, the campaign involved elected officials, rabbis and leading Jewish groups.
The pro-boycott campaigners said it was meant to “stop genocide.”
The boycott only applies to a handful of products at the co-op. Among them is Bamba, the crunchy peanut-flavored puffy snack that is popular in Israel.
The federation says, “In response to the divisive and hate-driven boycott of Israeli products at the Park Slope Food Coop, UJA is buying those very products, starting with a purchase of 20,000 bags of Bamba.”
The federation tells The Times of Israel it is buying the Bamba from Osem, the Israeli company that produces the snack, which was named by the Park Slope boycotters.
The federation will distribute the snacks at the annual Israel parade in New York City, taking place on Sunday.
“We’re all better with Bamba,” the federation says.
[IsraelTimes] New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch vow a record level of security for Sunday’s annual Israel parade in New York City, despite Mamdani not attending due to his opposition to Israel.
“While I will not be attending, our administration has been preparing for weeks to ensure the parade is safe,” Mamdani says at a press briefing. “I take seriously my responsibility to protect the safety and well-being of every New Yorker and every event, regardless of my attendance.”
“I look forward to this parade occurring seamlessly and peacefully,” Mamdani says.
Tisch, a prominent Jewish centrist, says she will be “honored” to walk with other dignitaries in the parade.
“I’m so excited to march with you,” she says in Hebrew.
She cites the rise in antisemitism and the dozens of recent attacks against Jews in the US, Canada and Europe, saying, “We are not messing around with security at this year’s parade.”
“New Yorkers will see the most extensive security plan that the NYPD has ever put together,” she says, including the “largest number of officers ever assigned to that detail.”
The vast array of law enforcement measures will include heavy weapons teams, camera coverage of the area, screening of everyone entering, checking vehicles, counter-terror teams, “explosive detection canines,” helicopters, drones, horse-mounted units, “hostile surveillance teams” and plainclothes officers.
To prevent possible ramming attacks, streets leading to the parade will be fortified with hardened NYPD vehicles and heavy sanitation trucks.
NYPD intel teams will monitor social media for threats, and response units will be deployed around the city to immediately check on any threats.
Police will be stationed throughout the surrounding public transportation system to protect attendees traveling to the event, Tisch says. Attendees are encouraged to take public transportation due to road closures.
There are no known, credible threats to the event, but “the absence of a specific threat does not mean the absence of risk,” Tisch says.
Regarding protests, she adds, “We will not tolerate any disruptions to the parade. Any unauthorized persons entering the parade route will be arrested.”
The parade tends to see a small group of protesters on the route confined within a police barricade.
Asked about Mamdani not attending, Tisch says, “It’s the mayor’s decision not to march, and it is my decision to march proudly.”
Mark Treyger, the head of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, the group that organizes the parade, thanks Tisch and Mamdani and says, “We are expecting one of the biggest turnouts ever,” numbering in the tens of thousands.

The British Museum in London postponed a lecture on "Ancient Israel and Judah in the British Museum" scheduled for Thursday as part of Jewish Culture Month, citing security concerns.
Paul Collins, Keeper of the Department of the Middle East, was slated to give an hour-long talk on how "the histories of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah can be illuminated by the archaeology and art of the wider ancient Middle East," focusing on the artifacts preserved in the museum.
The museum said in a Wednesday announcement that the event would take place at an unspecified later date.
"In recent days, we were informed that a significant proportion of registered attendees were individuals intending to deliberately disrupt the event, preventing others from participating in good faith and undermining the purpose of the programme," the statement read.
"The British Museum fully recognises the importance of lawful protest and freedom of expression in a democratic society," it added. "Equally, we have a responsibility to ensure that events hosted within the Museum can proceed safely, securely and without intimidation for speakers, staff and visitors alike."
Members of Jewish Artists For Paleostine were reportedly registered for the event, but it was unclear which groups were planning protests.
Jewish Culture Month is the first event of its kind in the United Kingdom, organized by the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The festivities opened on May 15 and run through June 16, and include more than 100 events celebrating Jewish heritage, creativity and culture across the UK.
Major British institutions, including the British Library, Tate Modern, Victoria and Albert Museum and the BBC, are participating.
The museum pledged to continue supporting Jewish Culture Month.
British Museum Assistant Press Officer Lucy McDonald told JTA that the museum could not comment on "operational or security arrangements" and referred to the statement saying that the event would be rescheduled "to a later date when it can take place in an environment that properly safeguards both the audience experience and the integrity of the program itself."
In a statement responding to the lecture postponement, the Board of Deputies umbrella body said, "It is highly regrettable that individuals have sought to deliberately disrupt a Jewish Culture Month event celebrating Jewish cultural heritage at the British Museum."
"We will be working with our partners at the British Museum to reschedule this event as soon as possible," they added.
At the launch earlier this month, Board of Deputies Acting President Adrian Cohen said the events were designed for Jewish and non-Jewish community members alike because "British Jewish culture is not something that exists in isolation."
Board of Deputies Director of Culture, Education and Communities Liat Rosenthal added, "Jewish culture has never been something sealed behind glass. It is a living culture. An argumentative culture. A hospitable culture. A culture of memory and reinvention. Of stories carried across borders and generations, then remade anew."
In recent months, the British Museum has been at the center of a controversy regarding the use of the term Paleostine and Paleostinian in some of its displays.
The museum in February removed some references to "Paleostine" and people of "Paleostinian descent" in some of its displays and is reviewing more cases, deeming them historically inaccurate and no longer neutral, following complaints by a pro-Israel group.
UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) said in a statement that it had raised concerns about using the term in gallery panels and labels describing the ancient Levant and Egypt.

A Sikh man who claimed to have been the victim of a racist attack has been found guilty of murder for the slaying of student Henry Nowak, the death of whom became notorious after it was revealed he was handcuffed by police and ignored while he bled to death.
A murderer who lied to police about having repeatedly stabbed a teenager, and covered for himself by telling a "wicked lie" about his victim having committed racist abuse against him, has been found guilty by a jury at Southampton Crown Court in Hampshire, England this afternoon. Police welcomed the conviction, but also apologised for having believed the knifeman’s lies, meaning Anglo-Polish victim Henry Nowak’s last conscious moments were spent handcuffed explaining that he’d been stabbed, while being told he was making it up.
After the guilty verdict was read out, it was revealed an anti-"two tier policing" protest had been called for Thursday night outside Southampton Central Police Station over the force’s reflexive instinct to believe the racism accusation while ignoring the factual stabbing report.
The jury of eight women and four men started their deliberations at lunchtime on Wednesday and found 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa guilty of murder on Thursday afternoon. Digwa was also found guilty of carrying a knife in a public place. Digwa’s mother, Kiran Kaur was also found guilty on her charge of assisting an offender by removing the murder weapon from the scene and stashing it at their family home.
The BBC reports Digwa showed no emotion as the jury reported, that Kaur was "visibly upset", and that "sobs" could be heard from the public gallery.
Killer Digwa will be sentenced on Monday, the judge said. Mother Kaur’s sentencing is to be delayed until July 17th to allow the preparation of a pre-sentencing report, reports Sky News.
As previously reported, Nowak and Digwa met by chance in the city of Southampton on December 3rd 2025. The court heard that accountancy and finance student Nowak had been out socialising with friends from his student football team and had consumed alcohol that evening but at his time of death was not intoxicated and could have legally driven a car.
Words were exchanged between the men and Digwa chased and stabbed Nowak five times, including twice in the back of the legs and once in the chest. After some time, a delay which apparently gave an opportunity for several members of Digwa’s family to arrive at the scene, police were eventually called and told there had been a racist attack, with no mention of a stabbing.
When officers arrived at the scene they arrested the now-dying Henry Nowak and ignored his protests at having been stabbed until it became impossible to ignore that he was drowning in his own blood. Officers then attempted to resuscitate Nowak and summoned an air ambulance, but he was later declared dead at the scene.
Earlier in the hearings, the court was shown police bodycam footage. As officers arrive at the scene Nowak is seen being held up against a wall by murderer Digwa’s father, who accused the victim of "pretending" to have been injured, while the teen complained of being unable to breathe. Nowak’s chest cavity was at this time filling with blood because one of his knife wounds had cut an artery.
Police were then seen arresting Nowak in the video, who is lying on his side on the ground, and again trying to tell the officers that he had been stabbed, to which an unseen male replies, "I don’t think you have, mate".
A police spokesman apologised for his officers having arrested slain teen Nowak at the scene of the crime, insisting they were doing their best based on the lies they’d been told, and citing the pathologist who said officers wouldn’t have been capable of saving Nowak from the deep wound even if they’d believed him.

[FoxNews] State Department says PCC and Red Command 'command thousands of members' with networks extending into the US
The Trump administration increased pressure on crime cartels operating out of Brazil on Thursday by moving to classify two of the country’s biggest drug gangs as foreign terrorist organizations.
The two syndicates — First Command of the Capital (PCC) and Red Command (CV) — likely have more than 50,000 members combined, according to The Associated Press.
"Today, the U.S. Department of State is designating Comando Vermelho (CV) and Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) and intends to designate both groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), effective June 5, 2026," the State Department said in a statement.
"CV and PCC are two of the most violent criminal organizations in Brazil. Together, they command thousands of members and have orchestrated brutal attacks against Brazilian police officers, public officials and civilians. Their influence and illicit networks extend far beyond Brazil’s borders, across our region and into our country," the statement said.
The Trump administration, the department added, will continue to utilize all available tools to protect the nation and U.S. national security interests by keeping illicit drugs off American streets and disrupting the revenue streams funding violent narco-terrorists.
"Today’s action taken by the State Department further demonstrates the Trump Administration’s unwavering commitment to dismantling cartels and criminal organizations in our region and ensuring the safety of the American people," the department said in a statement.
The new designation also came after conservative Brazilian Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro met with President Donald Trump in Washington to urge the administration to formally designate the gangs as terrorist entities.
The 45-year-old senator and presidential hopeful shared a photo Tuesday standing by Trump’s side in the Oval Office, flashing a thumbs-up sign as he seeks to bolster his image amid a political scandal at home.
"I went specifically to ask him to designate the CV and PCC as terrorist organizations, because that’s what they are," he told reporters in Washington.
With Brazil’s presidential election slated for October, supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro have campaigned for the U.S. designation to target the public security failures of current leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Proponents argue that the PCC and CV operate across international borders through drug trafficking, money laundering, weapons smuggling and territorial control, making them comparable to other transnational groups already labeled as terrorist organizations by the U.S.
Lula da Silva’s government strongly opposes the designation, arguing the gangs are heavily armed criminal enterprises rather than ideologically motivated terrorist groups. Lula is also seeking re-election.
Brazilian authorities launched a major anti-gang financial crackdown this week targeting fraud and money-laundering networks allegedly linked to PCC operations, The Associated Press reported.
Prosecutors revealed that the investigation uncovered billions of reais moved through fintech firms and shell structures.
Last year, Brazilian authorities also uncovered a sprawling criminal network that had infiltrated parts of the fuel industry and connected to the financial sector through money-laundering schemes involving members of the PCC.
At the time, authorities seized 1.2 billion reais (approximately $220 million) in assets, the outlet said.

While discussing the situation in Newark, Mullin said that if local law enforcement isn’t allowed to protect the streets around facilities, “then we’ve got to prioritize federal police officers, and that may affect international flights coming in and out of their airport, because I’m going to have to pull Custom[s] and Border Protection officers out of being to able process international flights and put them helping our ICE agents. And, by the way, if you can’t process international flights because customs is closed, you can’t, obviously, process international flights coming in from out of the country.”
Co-host Brian Kilmeade then asked, “You’re drawing up plans to halt international flights to anywhere there are sanctuary cities, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. So, no more international flights to those airports?”
Mullin answered, “No. I wouldn’t say all of them. I’m saying when we have situations [like] what’s happening in New Jersey right now, when we have to prioritize where we put federal employees because local law enforcement won’t help protect their streets, not federal streets, city streets, and keep them from barricading and causing harm to our employees, then we have to decide where we’re going to prioritize our federal employees. So, we’re not going to halt the flights. What we’re saying is, we just won’t be able to process them because we don’t have officers there, we’re going to pull out our Custom[s] and Border Patrol officers that process these flights and put them in these facilities to help protect our employees coming in and out of work. And, by the way, that’s not their job. Their job is to do just what they said, Custom[s] and Border Protection. However, since local law enforcement isn’t able to do their job, because they said, quote, they don’t have the resources, well, we have to prioritize our resources as well.”

Alleged violators included the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Prison Service and police, according to the UN report, which claimed violations were recorded in prisons, West Bank checkpoints and the Gush Etzion cop shoppe, as well as during military operations.
Though the UN Special Representative for Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten, has "continued to engage with the Government of Israel and civil society," Israel has failed to comply with demands in last year’s report for greater accountability and transparency, the UN chief said.
As an example of the alleged "systematic lack of accountability," Guterres cited the case of a detainee at the military’s Sde Teiman facility who reportedly suffered severe rectal injuries following the "insertion of an object in the anus" by guards in July 2024.
Guterres noted that, despite "video and medical reports and a detailed description of the assault," five reservists indicted in the case were not charged with rape, and the charges were dropped entirely earlier this year, after top army prosecutors admitted leaking the footage and lying about it.
’LOST ALL MORAL AUTHORITY’
Guterres’s report, dated April 21, was shared with The Times of Israel by a spokesperson for Danny Danon, the Israeli Ambassador to the UN.
Danon was informed of the decision in a letter from Guterres on Thursday, which was also shared with The Times of Israel.
In a statement, Danon said whoever puts Israel on the same list as Hamas "has lost all moral authority."
"The Secretary-General has once again chosen to conduct a political and false campaign against Israel," Danon said. "We are done with this Secretary-General."
In a phone interview with The Times of Israel earlier Thursday, Danon asserted that Israel had done its utmost to comply with the steps Guterres outlined in last year’s report to avoid being placed on the blacklist.
Those steps included issuing directives against sexual violence, creating enforcement and disciplinary systems, investigating credible complaints and granting the UN free access for monitoring and humanitarian work.
Israel shared its full legal and oversight framework with the UN, including regulations, complaint mechanisms, and its practice of filing indictments where warranted, Danon said, adding that he personally held multiple meetings with Patten and her team.
According to Danon, Israel had also arranged for bigwigs from the Prison Service, the military and the Justice Ministry to meet with Patten’s delegation, but she canceled trips to Israel due to technical issues and the security situation in the region, though Israel never blocked the visits.
"They never really gave us the basis" for the decision to put Israel on the blacklist... they never clarified any specific cases to us," Danon claimed. "They don’t have any real basis to rely on. It could have been media reports or things like that."
Diplomatic sources cited by the network also claimed Guterres pushed to include Israel on this year’s blacklist over Patten’s objections.
Patten is the author of a 2024 UN report that found "clear and convincing" evidence that Hamas committed rape and sexual violence during the October 7 attack, and continued during the ensuing Gaza war to do so against hostages kidnapped in the onslaught.
Relations between the UN and Israel have reached an all-time low since Hamas’s October 7 attack.
Israeli authorities have reproached Guterres and other UN officials for Israeli strikes against Gaza. The UN chief was declared "persona non grata" in Israel in 2024.
Israel has also accused employees of the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees, known as UNRWA, of participating in the October 7 attack.

"We had just established the startup in early 2023 around lessons that we saw emerging from the war in Ukraine, which exposed that the world of intelligence was rapidly transitioning from text to video, while existing intelligence platforms weren’t keeping pace."
"We saw analysts drowning in data to extract the needle from the haystack while critical signals and intelligence were being missed," said Friedman.
Since April 2023, the startup’s founders — Friedman; Rotem Abeles, a former Palantir Technologies strategist; and Amos Lahav — have been operating under the radar to develop an idea into an AI platform designed to connect and analyze large volumes of raw visual data from multiple sources and different formats and turn them into actionable intelligence for national security and law enforcement agencies.
"We focus on turning videos from different sources into intelligence for operational insights that national security analysts can act on at the speed needed to prevent the next catastrophic terror attack," said Friedman. "We did not have the luxury of spending years inside the lab building the technology."
"We developed the AI platform in a real-time operational environment during a war and under real pressure and urgency of a warzone rather than based on synthetic data or generic models, which is what sets us apart from competitors," Friedman added.
Friedman said that the platform can narrow down and extract relevant information using AI models within minutes, instead of days or months.
Israel’s Defense Ministry declined to comment on the deployment of the startup’s AI intelligence platform when contacted by The Times of Israel.
Airis Labs has already been deployed by several government organizations worldwide, it said. Friedman noted that the startup participated last year in a US Army accelerator program tailored to integrate new technologies, while also working with law enforcement and national security and intelligence organizations.
The company emerged from stealth on Wednesday, announcing it has secured a total of $60 million in funding to date from investors, including PSQ Equity, TLV Partners, Stepstone Group, and Redseed Ventures. Among its angel investors are Mellanox Technologies founder Eyal Waldman, whose daughter was murdered by Hamas snuffies at the Supernova music festival near the Gaza border on October 7, as well as Jeff Horing, co-founder of New York-based venture capital firm Insight Partners.
Airis Labs said it will use the funds to hire more staff and expand its US operations. The startup, which employs 50 employees, mostly at its R&D center in Tel Aviv, also has an office in Washington, DC.
"Airis Labs is the rare company that was born from a deep understanding of the problem," said Waldman. "The founders understand the mission because they’ve lived it. That’s not something you can replicate."

As such, it is traditionally considered one of the peak consumer periods of the year, with Paleostinians typically spending the days beforehand shopping, preparing large family meals and buying gifts for relatives.
This year, however, the holiday — which runs from Wednesday through Saturday — arrived in the midst of a salary crisis that has developed against the backdrop of a broader economic downturn in the West Bank since October 7, 2023.

According to the Paleostinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the decline erased 84% of Paleostinians’ income from work in Israel, compared to 2022. The fall in income also led to a 34% drop in imports of goods and services and a 16% drop in exports, as less money circulated throughout the Paleostinian economy overall.
The broader economic losses were compounded over the past year by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s decision to withhold significant portions of the Paleostinian Authority’s clearance revenues — taxes collected by Israel on the PA’s behalf under the Oslo Accords.
Those revenues amount to hundreds of millions of shekels each month and make up roughly 60% of the Paleostinian Authority’s budget.
The Paleostinian Authority has struggled with budgetary problems for years, amid low economic productivity and longstanding allegations of corruption and waste. Since 2021, it has paid delayed and partial salaries to roughly 100,000 public sector employees in the West Bank, including members of the Paleostinian security forces.
Still, a new low was reached in the most recent salary payment: The wages paid in April for the month of January (the PA is routinely months behind) amounted to no more than NIS 2,000 ($700) per employee, despite the fact that some bigwigs formally earn salaries of up to NIS 10,000 a month, not including additional benefits.
In recent years, the PA has generally paid its employees either NIS 2,000 or between 50% and 70% of salaries — whichever sum was higher.
On May 21, the Paleostinian Finance Ministry promised that the next salaries would be paid during this week, just ahead of the holiday, apparently in an attempt to provide temporary relief to employees. As of this writing, however, no payments had been made.
Merchants interviewed by Paleostinian media in recent days said "there is a holiday, but there is no holiday atmosphere" in the West Bank.
One merchant told a Paleostinian television channel: "The markets are empty, people are exhausted, there is no buying and no selling. The PA clerks have no money, and there are no outsiders coming into the city to shop."
Another added: "People are trying to create joy, to achieve a moment of happiness, but the economic situation is severely affecting people’s mental state."
’DECLINE ALONGSIDE STABILITY’
Dr. Sameh al-Atout, an economics expert at An-Najah National University, told The Times of Israel that, relatively speaking, the city of Nablus and its surrounding area are in better condition than other districts in the West Bank because of the differing economic characteristics of each region.
The areas hardest hit in recent years, he explained, were those that relied most heavily on employment within Israel, such as Jenin and Tulkarem.
Ramallah, meanwhile, where the PA is headquartered, "has the largest number of Paleostinian Authority employees whose income has been affected," he said.
Nablus, by contrast, still benefits from visits by Arab Israelis. "They come frequently, not only to buy and sell food and other goods, but also for financial investments such as purchasing apartments," al-Atout said.
Al-Atout presented economic figures showing a major decline in the West Bank economy over the past five years, including a drop in GDP per capita from $3,000 to $2,100 in 2025.
Alongside such figures, however, he pointed to indicators suggesting a degree of economic stability.
Deposits in the Paleostinian banking sector in the West Bank, for example, rose over the past five years from NIS 16 billion to NIS 22 billion.
"In other words, people are still earning money overall, and as a result the banking sector is continuing to grow, relatively," he said. "That is a good number, one that indicates stability."
One source of that stability is the private sector, which depends heavily on imports and exports, primarily with Israel. Trade volumes between Israel and the West Bank recovered after falling at the beginning of the Gaza war in late 2023, or in some sectors barely changed at all.
According to data from Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, imports from Israel accounted for roughly 55% to 60% of total imports to the West Bank over the past two years — a proportion largely unchanged compared to the period before the war.
In addition, Israeli exports to the West Bank, which fell by around 30% at the end of 2023 following the Hamas-led invasion and massacre, partially recovered within about six months. By the second half of 2024, export volumes were only 15% lower than before the war.
In practice, the relatively stable economic relationship between Israel and the West Bank in terms of imports and exports has largely been maintained.
FINANCIAL FRICTIONS WITH ISRAEL
The Paleostinian Authority’s finances have become particularly strained given Israel’s yearlong withholding of clearance revenues.
Israel had already reduced the transfers in recent years, because of the PA’s policy of making payments to security prisoners convicted of terror offenses and its payments to officials in Gaza who worked under the PA before Hamas seized control of the Strip in 2007.
In an April letter officially announcing the continued total freeze, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the money "has been frozen... in light of [the PA’s] actions against the State of Israel in the international arena and its support for encouraging terrorism."
PA Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa described the situation during a presser in late April. "We are living without tax revenues, in an attempt [by Israel] to destroy the institutions of the State of Paleostine. All residents are suffering, especially Paleostinian Authority employees," he said.
Al-Atout added that the Paleostinian Authority now owes its employees a total of NIS 7 billion (almost $2.5 billion) in accumulated backpay.
The ongoing financial crisis, he said, prevented the PA from paying salaries ahead of the holiday as promised.
It also appears to have caused the PA to break another promise.
Over the past two weeks, former Paleostinian prisoners, maimed Paleostinians and families of those killed in the conflict with Israel have staged protests demanding payments and salaries.

Some 1,600 former prisoners stopped receiving salaries in May last year, out of several thousand beneficiaries overall.
Claims have recently emerged in Paleostinian society that additional beneficiaries have also stopped receiving salaries as part of the PA’s reform, under which responsibility for the payments was transferred to an external body meant to distribute stipends based on economic need. The PA has not commented.
At the same time, the US State Department informed Congress at the end of April that the PA has not, in fact, ceased making payments to the families of security prisoners and slain terrorists, despite reforming and ostensibly ending its system of cash transfers awarded in accordance with the length of time served behind Israeli bars.
Contradictorily, two weeks ago, a Ramallah court ordered the PA to resume stipend payments to the family of a man held since 2024 in an Israeli prison for reasons not made public.
Earlier this month, several dozen protesters demonstrated outside PA headquarters, demanding that the canceled payments be restored.
Maher Hdaideh, one of the protest leaders, announced on May 20 that the strike had been suspended after the Paleostinian Interior Ministry promised that every maimed Paleostinian and every family of a prisoner or person killed in the conflict would receive a one-time grant of NIS 1,500 before Eid al-Adha. Again, the PA did not comment, and payments were not made.
On Monday, a small number of protesters returned to demonstrate outside the PA government building.
SHEEP THEFTS
Eid al-Adha, in Arabic the "Festival of Sacrifice," commemorates the Koranic account of Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail — the parallel to the biblical story of the Binding of Isaac — before God sends a sheep to be sacrificed instead.
As a result, one of the central traditions of the holiday is the slaughter of a sheep or cow and the distribution of the meat among family members.
The custom traditionally marks the peak sales season for livestock breeders and traders across the West Bank.
Mohammad al-Lib, a livestock trader from the Hebron area, told Al Jazeera channel on Saturday, "I used to sell just under 50 animals every Eid al-Adha. This year I haven’t even sold five." He cited the economic crisis, which has left many Paleostinians unable to afford meat.
Some herders say they are facing another growing problem: sheep thefts allegedly carried out by settlers.
Most livestock breeders in the West Bank live in Area C — the 61% of the territory fully controlled by Israel — particularly in the South Hebron Hills and the Jordan Valley, where there are open grazing areas for sheep and cattle. Those regions are also among the areas most exposed to settler violence, including thefts.
On May 21, for instance, masked individuals identified in Paleostinian reports as settlers were filmed allegedly stealing around 45 sheep from the pen of Ali Abu Ali in Khirbet Hirbet al-Nabi in the South Hebron Hills.
Aqef Ashtiyeh, a sheep breeder in the northern Jordan Valley, told Al Jazeera that he has been forced to keep his flock inside enclosed areas. "The settlers take sheep and confiscate equipment related to grazing and feeding," he said. "Now we are raising them inside tin shacks."
Despite the worsening economic situation, al-Atout predicted that the PA would not collapse financially altogether, arguing that such a collapse would trigger a deterioration in regional security and therefore run contrary to the interests of neighboring states, notably including Israel.
Even when PA’s finances hit low points, donor money periodically arrives to ease the crises, he said, apparently referring to EU and regional financial support.
"When people ask me about the economic situation in the West Bank, I answer like this: It cannot improve dramatically, but it also cannot deteriorate dramatically," al-Atout summarized. "I have been saying for 15 years that the Israeli side may be interested in a sharp economic decline, but not in total economic collapse."

Efforts to shore up the fragile ceasefire have stalled as Hamas has refused to disarm and Israel has seized more territory while continuing to strike terror targets.

INDONESIAN COMMITMENT OF 8,000 TROOPS ON INDEFINITE HOLD
The biggest blow to the planned force came about a week after the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, when Indonesia put its commitment of 8,000 troops on indefinite hold. Some 1,000 were to be sent in April, with the remainder in June.
Indonesia’s pledge was by far the largest of the group, which also includes Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania. US Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers, who spoke at the Board of Peace event, was to command the force.
Indonesia suspended its plans over what Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said last week seemed a lack of commitment from a distracted Washington, saying "we have not yet received any implementation guidelines."
"New dynamics have emerged," he told parliament. "Because the intensity of the conflict between US and Iranian forces remains very high, the BoP has tended to be left behind. Since the BoP has been left behind, the ISF has also been left behind."
US ATTACK ON IRAN INFLUENCED INDONESIA’S DECISION
Domestic issues may have factored into Indonesia’s decision, said Muhammad Zulfikar Rakhmat, director of the Indonesia-Middle East/North Africa desk at Jakarta’s Center for Economic and Law Studies.
The Iran war is extremely unpopular in Indonesia, the most populous Moslem country. The economy is suffering from soaring prices because of the conflict, and there is widespread skepticism of the Board of Peace.
"If you talk to the people on the street, I don’t think they believe that the Board of Peace will actually help the people of Gaza," Rakhmat said. There are also concerns about sending troops to the Middle East when the economy is faltering, he added.
Indonesia lost four peacekeepers who were part of the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... mission in Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... during fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group. That has further soured public opinion on such international commitments, he said.
BOARD OF PEACE BLAMES STALLED CEASEFIRE ON HAMAS
The US military’s Central Command declined to comment or make Jeffers available for an interview, referring all queries to the Board of Peace.
Board of Peace front man Brad Klapper also declined to comment on Indonesia’s decision or the future of the stabilization force, pointing instead to May 21 remarks made at the UN by Nickolay Mladenov, a former Bulgarian defense minister who Trump appointed director of the Board of Peace.
Mladenov said the international force would not be able to begin operations until there was agreement and implementation of a second phase of the ceasefire, which would see Hamas disarm and Israel begin to withdraw. Israeli troops control some 60 percent of Gaza.
Mladenov has blamed the deadlock on Hamas, saying its disarmament is "non-negotiable" and is holding up progress on other fronts, including Israel’s withdrawal and reconstruction.
"You cannot build a future with gangs running the streets, hiding in tunnels and stockpiling weapons," Mladenov said in Jerusalem this month. "You cannot deliver reconstruction with militias on every corner."
HAMAS BLAMES DELAYS ON ISRAEL
Hamas says Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire, holding up its further implementation, and has accused Mladenov of siding with Israel.
Israeli strikes have killed more than 880 Paleostinians since the ceasefire, according to a tally by Gazook health officials, which does not distinguish between combatant and civilian. Israel says it was responding to violations of the truce.
Hamas is also demanding Israel withdraw from areas seized since the start of the ceasefire, according to an Egyptian official with knowledge of the discussions, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered... to discuss closed-door talks. Egypt has long served as a mediator with Hamas.
Many of the countries that have pledged forces have refused to send troops without a deal on Hamas disarmament, the official said.
TOKEN FORCES ARE COMMITTED
Kazakhstan has said its support for the stabilization force would be limited to "the humanitarian component," including sending medical units with a field hospital. Its foreign ministry did not respond to a request for comment.
Albania’s defense ministry also declined to comment on its troop commitment, saying it was a "dynamic and ongoing process."
Earlier this month, its chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Arben Kingji, told news hounds that while the military had "participated in reconnaissance activities," no troops had yet been sent. He said only a few would be dispatched as part of the stabilization force headquarters, without giving numbers, adding that further contributions would be considered.
Kosovo, which is expected to send 20 troops, said in April that it was in the "final phase of preparations." The defense ministry did not reply to a request for an update.
Morocco’s Foreign Ministry also did not reply. At the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said it would deploy "high-level military officers to the joint military command of the ISF."
INDONESIAN TURNAROUND CAN’T BE RULED OUT
Despite the delays from Indonesia, Rakhmat said it was too early to rule out eventual participation in the stabilization force.
President Prabowo Subianto is a former army general who is keen to raise Indonesia’s profile on the world stage and wants to avoid jeopardizing economic ties with the US, Rakhmat said.
"Prabowo wants to strengthen ties to Washington and sign different agreements with the US, so to completely withdraw and completely cancel the plan, I don’t think it’s on the table," he said.

Unless he wants to take over the whole country, because that actually would achieve regime change, it would end their nuclear program, it would reopen the strait. But you’re talking about using 300,000 Americans for a country that’s twice the size and population of Iraq. I don’t think even Ranger Pete Hegseth wants that. So the only other option is to sit down at the table and actually have a negotiation. Let’s just be honest, though, he’s not only lost the war, he’s losing the negotiation as well.”
Later, Moulton said that Trump “has a hope and a prayer that he might get some semblance of the nuclear deal that Obama handed to him.”

I have been suspicious that part of the 'negotiations' was Iran Prime* stalling for time as it worked to pay USA politicians and influencers to push a domestic origin cease fire.
*I use this term to describe the Iran power brokers who were in charge before the fight, as opposed to what may be multiple other contestants at the moment.
[IsraelTimes] US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says that the United States will halt Iranian airlines’ access to landing spots, among other measures, as Washington pushes to intensify pressure on Tehran and open the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, Bessent says Washington will “be shutting down both Iranian airlines’ access to landing spots, refueling, and ticket sales,” without providing further details.
“Only a satisfactory outcome in negotiations will end the downward spiral,” he warns.
Bessent does not specify which airlines he was referring to, although Tehran’s flag carrier Iran Air has previously been designated by the US State Department, while Iran’s Mahan Air has also been targeted by sanctions.

I'm not privy to what is going on behind the scenes, but a 60 day cease fire seems to give Iran too much time. I still think the Iranians are trying to string this out until the mid terms in the hopes that the Demoncrats gain control of one or both branches of Congress. I don't see an active conflict in Iran during the mid terms to be a good idea.

I can’t tell how Iran is currently doing with regard to paying their military and where the actual majority of popular support is for the regime. I am OK with this type of settlement as long as there aren’t cash payments to them or significant unfrozen assets.

Does the Mullants even know what a MoU is?
It's just and understanding of maybe terms, not a real agreement.
I seriously doubt that the current Iranan leadership have any intention of sticking with a worthless "MoU".

Intercommunal fighting erupted between Druze factions and Bedouin tribes in Suwayda in mid-July, later escalating with the involvement of Damascus forces and Israel.
More than 1,340 members from the Druze community - including 99 women and 53 children - were killed, according to a March report by UN Sherlocks.
