Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the army regained control of the town of Khor Hassan in the southeastern part of the Blue Nile region.
The sources added that the movements of the army and its allied forces are part of a strategic plan to advance toward the border town of Kurmuk.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) coalition had seized Kurmuk, which borders Ethiopia, last March.
The SPLM-N, which is allied with the RSF, announced in a statement on May 8 that its forces had taken control of the Khor Hassan garrison as a precursor to advancing toward other areas.
A field commander revealed at the time that the SPLM-N forces had surrounded vital areas around Ed Damazin, the capital of the Blue Nile region.
The frontline in the Blue Nile region, which borders both Ethiopia and South Sudan, flared up in February. The Sudanese government has accused Ethiopia of providing logistical support to the SPLM-N and RSF coalition.
Active combat continues across the localities of Kurmuk, Geissan, and Bau.

Tens of thousands of people rallied Saturday in London at a march organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson and at a smaller counter-demonstration fused with a pro-Paleostinian, anti-Israel protest. London’s Metropolitan Police said in the afternoon that they had arrested 31 people in total from both demonstrations.
Police deployed 4,000 officers, including reinforcements from outside the capital, and pledged "the most assertive possible use of our powers" in what they called their biggest public order operation in years. They had earlier forecast turnout of at least 80,000 for Saturday’s rallies.
The force also deployed horses, dogs, drones and helicopters to manage Robinson’s so-called Unite the Kingdom march and the rival rally marking Nakba Day, an annual Paleostinian event commemorating the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Paleostinians during Israel’s 1948 War of Independence, when the nascent state came under attack by multiple Arab armies.

"We’re an island. We’ve got a clear border that they’re not protecting. Something needs to be done. It’s gone on too long."

"Illegal immigration is really taking a toll on the country," she said of the UK.
Heather Booker was among those to turn out at the combined pro-Paleostine and Stand Up to Racism event.
"It’s very worrying that there’s a real rise in racism and fascism in Britannia and across Europe," she told AFP.
Robinson — real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon — is an anti-Islam activist whose profile has soared in recent years, in particular online.
He has tapped into growing public anger over tens of thousands of migrants colonists crossing the English Channel each year in small boats, wider immigration policies, alleged free speech curbs and other issues.
Last September, he drew up to 150,000 people into central London for a similarly themed rally proclaiming "national unity, free speech and Christian values" — an unprecedented turnout for an event organized by a far-right figure.
X owner Elon Musk addressed that gathering via video-link. The rally shocked mainstream Britannia for its scale and raw messaging, as well as festivities between some participants and police, which injured dozens of officers.
’HATRED AND DIVISION’
The Met imposed conditions on Saturday’s two rallies in a bid to keep rival attendees apart, and for the first time, organizers were made legally responsible for ensuring invited speakers did not break hate speech laws.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned Friday that "anyone who sets out to wreak havoc on our streets, to intimidate or threaten anyone... can expect to face the full force of the law."
He accused the organizers of Robinson’s rally of "peddling hatred and division."
Robinson — who had urged his attendees not to wear masks or drink excessive alcohol, and to be "peaceful and courteous" — told those gathered he was spearheading a "cultural revolution."

A man drove a car into a crowd in the northern Italian city of Modena on Saturday, injuring at least eight people, four of whom were at death's door, police said.
The driver — a 30-year-old born in Bergamo and of North African origin, who had moved to the province that includes Modena — attempted to flee after the car crashed into a shop window, Modena’s mayor told broadcaster RaiNews24.
As he attempted to flee, the driver was stopped by some pedestrians, one of whom he attacked with a knife and slightly injured. The driver was later arrested by police.
The driver was receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders, a source in the Interior Ministry said, without elaborating on the man’s motivations or whether terrorism was a factor.
Among the injured, four were at death's door and two were airlifted to a hospital in Bologna, around 40 kilometers from Modena, the city’s mayor, Massimo Mezzetti, told RaiNews24.

Activists in Hamburg are commemorating the displacement of Paleostinians this week in a park where Jews were deported during World War II, following a legal fight that ended in their favor.
A German court allowed the "Bridges of Resistance®" encampment to be set up from May 9 until Saturday in Moorweide, a public park where, according to the Hamburg Memorials Foundation, the Nazis rounded up more than 1,000 local Jews for deportation to the Łódź ghetto in October 1941.
The encampment will culminate on Saturday with a march from the park to Hamburg’s port, the organizers announced. The demonstration will be part of nationwide protests marking 78 years since the Nakba, the Arabic word for "catastrophe" used by Paleostinians to describe their flight and expulsion from their homes when Israel was established in 1948.

Had Israel intended genocide, within days of the 10/7/2023 invasion Gaza would have contained not a single living soul. But since the population of Gaza is higher now than it was before, according to official Hamas statistics, it seems self-evident that genocide was not Israel’s goal.
Israel rejects all claims of genocide, maintaining that its military goes to extreme measures to avoid civilian casualties, while Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... and other terror groups use the local population as human shields and operate out of mosques, hospitals and schools.
The organizers also said Hamburg was a key location for protesting because its port was a "prime example of Germany’s role in the global arms trade." Pro-Paleostinian activists have previously targeted Hamburg’s port to protest arms shipments to Israel.

About 150 counterprotesters rallied against the encampment on Sunday, local media reported. Some held a sign that read, "There is no place for antisemitism and hatred of Israel in Hamburg."
Stefan Hensel, Hamburg’s former antisemitism commissioner, said on Facebook that "many in Hamburg consider the anti-Israel agitation again taking place there, of all places, as political and moral bankruptcy."
Hensel added that some of the activists were "accused of holding antisemitic and bully boy positions." One group involved in the encampment, Thawra Hamburg, is under surveillance by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, according to attorneys working on the group’s behalf.

The Hamburg court’s ruling likely rested on the fact that only part of Moorweide is designated as a memorial site, according to William Nevin, a German history professor emeritus of Nottingham Trent University.
"If one accepts that the protestors were not intending to demonstrate in the section of the park dedicated to the memory of those deported, or otherwise act in a disrespectful or antisemitic manner, then the court’s ruling can be understood," Nevin told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

In a statement Saturday, the military said Haddad had recently "acted to rebuild the capabilities of the terrorist organization’s military wing and to plan numerous terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops," despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement in October.

Nicknamed "The Ghost," Haddad had survived multiple liquidation attempts by Israel, according to Hamas sources. Israel confirmed on Friday that it had targeted Haddad, without saying whether the strike had succeeded.
