[RedState] One of the many idiotic stunts Democrats pulled during the State of the Union address in late February was to proudly announce they were inviting illegal immigrants to President Trump's speech.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called out three of them on X shortly before the event started: Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Rep. Seth Moulton (MA-06).
Regarding Moulton's "guest," DHS wrote that "@RepMoulton plans to bring illegal alien Marcelo Gomes DaSilva. Gomes DaSilva is an illegal alien who has no right to be in our nation. We are committed to enforcing the law and fighting for the arrest, detention, and removal of aliens like him."

...but Moulton ended up hiding him in his congressional office after seeing that tweet from DHS. Moulton posted this explanation on X at the time:
Marcelo has been in the U.S. since he was 6 years old. Zero criminal record.
You're not making anyone safer by targeting him. You're just proving how far you'll go to terrorize young people trying to build a future in this country. -SWM https://t.co/3QtrBOrgXI
In an update to this story, the Boston Herald did some digging into Gomes da Silva, who, over the summer of 2025, became an activist and celebrity of sorts among Democrats, including Moulton and Gov. Maura Healey, after ICE detained him for several days when they were looking for his father (read the background on that story and why Gomes da Silva was released here).
The information the Herald found, while incomplete, is disturbing:
Congressman Seth Moulton’s illegal immigrant guest during the State of the Union address is referenced in police reports involving sexual assault and juveniles, police say.
The Herald submitted a public records request to the Secretary of State’s Office and the Milford Police Department regarding two reports, one from June and the other from September of 2021, where Marcelo Gomes da Silva was apparently named as the person of interest.
The Herald sought the police report numbered 21-23101 dated 9/15/2021 featuring Marcelo Gomes da Silva and 1-16254 dated 6/30/21 also featuring the 19-year-old.
Milford Deputy Chief John Sanchioni denied both of those requests, indicating that the police report from June 2021 "involves a sexual assault and juveniles," and that the report from September 2021 "involves juveniles." He did not elaborate.
"The Herald is appealing both the Milford Juvenile Court and the Milford Police’s denial of releasing Gomes da Silva’s background on the ground Moulton has turned the teen’s story into a public debate on ICE enforcement," the paper also noted.

As of this writing, Moulton has not publicly commented on the story, which is kind of interesting considering he repeatedly bragged about inviting Gomes da Silva to the SOTU and sharing his story.

@1 Which means his criminal record would have been sealed and Moulton could not have known his guest was charged. Certainly not a fan of Moulton, but I also dislike 'news' from either side which leaves out facts that would significantly change the story.

Criminal records, including juvenile records are only sealed from the public and potential employers. Law enforcement can see them when doing records checks. Moulton could have asked for a check and any number of police chiefs in his district would have been more than happy to comply.

A petition to require voter ID and allow only U.S. citizens to vote has gained momentum in California and surpassed the required 875,000-signature threshold to qualify for the November ballot, the group leading the effort said.
According to Reform California, a nonpartisan political activism group, organizers submitted the "California Voter ID Initiative" petition to county authorities with 1.3 million signatures. The group says the petition has garnered bipartisan support, with signatures from Californians representing all walks of life and political persuasions across all 58 of the state’s counties.
Reform California believes the measure has a solid path to passage in November, citing polls showing 71% of Californians favor the initiative. If passed, the measure would bypass the Democratic legislative supermajority and amend the state constitution to require voter ID when casting a ballot, require election officials to verify the citizenship of registered voters and require the state to maintain accurate voter rolls.

"I think everybody in this country understands we live in a country that's unaffordable for working people," Michael D. Tubbs told Fox News Digital.
Mayors for a Guaranteed Income touted in February that more than 60 bills that would implement cash-based policies similar to guaranteed income have been floated in 15 states.
Tubbs also founded the Counties for a Guaranteed Income and Legislators for a Guaranteed Income. He served as mayor of Stockton, Calif., from 2017 to 2021.
Legislators for a Guaranteed Income reported more than 20 bills in 11 states being proposed to establish some form of statewide guaranteed income program.
The affordability crisis has plagued many Americans amid rising costs of groceries, housing, and healthcare. The House passed legislation — showing a rare display of bipartisanship last month with a 390-9 vote — to deliver policies aimed at growing the supply of affordable housing in the U.S.
"I see the overarching strategy is that we know we're in the affordability crisis. We know that people are looking for solutions to put money in their pockets. We know people want to be able to afford rent and childcare and food in the U.S.," Tubbs said.
Guaranteed basic income programs have become a trend across the U.S. in recent years, with more than 100 pilot programs launched since 2018. Mayors for a Guaranteed Income grew into a coalition of over 150 mayors pushing pilot programs, offering low-income participants up to $1,000 a month with no strings attached. The group has pushed pilot programs that have been adopted by municipalities across the country.
Most notably, Cook County, Ill., the second-largest county in the U.S., established a permanent guaranteed basic income program after the success of a previous pilot version. The program launched in 2022 with the aid of federal COVID-19 relief funds.
Tubbs, a Democrat, wants the federal government to follow suit by providing guaranteed income programs or something similar to provide cash assistance.
"We have wars in Iran, regime change in Venezuela. We get it, the healthcare system and the big, ugly bill," he said. "So people are saying that social safety is being frayed."
"That wealth is further being taken from the many and given to the few, and there has to be a government solution because this is a government-caused problem… inflation, unaffordability, this is all a direct result of government policy," Tubbs told Fox News Digital.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“What idiots! If they want it that badly, let them increase their own taxes to pay for it or beg charity from some of their pet centibillionaires. We’ll just continue freeing up the national economy instead, so the rising tide lifts all boats.”
President Donald Trump took a shot at Democrats over affordability issues in the country during his State of the Union address last month, saying they had brought about inflation and open borders.
"Now the same people in this chamber who voted for those disasters suddenly use the word 'affordability,'" he said. "A word, they just used it. Somebody gave it to them, knowing full well that they caused and created the increased prices that all of our citizens had to endure. You caused that problem."

Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of former president John F. Kennedy who is running in the Democratic primary for New York's 12th Congressional District, received no "earned income" in 2025 but holds millions of dollars worth of assets in four trust funds, a Washington Free Beacon review of his financial disclosures found.
The total value of Schlossberg’s disclosed assets ranges from $10.5 million to $31.9 million, according to the disclosures, which cover the period between January 2025 and February 2026. His assets include lucrative investment portfolios parked in four trust funds worth between $4.1 million and $11.7 million, the 25-page document shows. The documents indicate Schlossberg owns a stake of up to $5 million in Red Gate Farm LLC, the corporation that manages the remainder of a vast Martha's Vineyard estate once owned by his grandmother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Schlossberg generated plenty of income from his financial holdings: He reported receiving up to $1,000,000 in dividends and capital gains from an investment in chipmaker Nvidia in 2025 alone. But he disclosed no "earned income"—that is, money earned from working a job.
Schlossberg also disclosed a number of "positions." He listed himself as the "managing member" of Squid Island LLC, a "social media political commentary" company worth up to $100,000; as a "member" of Red Gate Farm LLC, the corporation that controls the Martha's Vineyard estate; as a "member" of Rory's Place LLC, a restaurant in California; and as a "political correspondent" for Vogue. A Vogue representative, however, said Schlossberg "was Vogue's election correspondent through the 2024 election, so he did not work with us in 2025."
The disclosures tell the story of a 33-year-old loaded with family money who does little besides post commentary online. Schlossberg has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and TikTok, where he posts bizarre political content. In one since-deleted video, he filmed himself performing a Nazi salute that was likely intended to mock Tesla billionaire Elon Musk, the Free Beacon reported.
In addition to his short-lived stint at Vogue, Schlossberg, who holds degrees from Harvard and Yale universities, briefly worked as a staff assistant in the State Department's Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs in 2016. His longest-running position appears to be his role as chairman of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s New Frontier Award, which he held from 2013 to 2023.

[NY Post] Embattled Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) announced Thursday night he will no longer seek re-election – one day after he admitted he had an extramarital affair with a staffer who later fatally set herself on fire.
“After deep reflection and with the support of my loving family, I have decided not to seek re-election while serving out the rest of this Congress with the same commitment I’ve always had to my district,” Gonzales said in a statement announcing he was dropping out of his upcoming runoff race.
“Through the rest of my term, I will continue fighting for my constituents, for whom I am eternally grateful,” the congressman added.
Gonzales, 45, has faced mounting calls to resign from Congress, even from within his own party, since text messages surfaced last month showing the married father of six pressed staffer Regina Santos-Aviles for “sexy” images.
Gonzales took “full responsibility” on Wednesday for “a lack of faith,” in an interview on “The Joe Pags Show.”
“I made a mistake, and I had a lapse in judgment,” Gonzales said a day after Tuesday’s Republican House primary election.
Gonzales failed to receive a majority of the votes in Texas’ 23rd District GOP primary. He was slated to face fellow Republican Brandon Herrera in a May 26 runoff election.
Herrera, who nearly beat Gonzales in the 2024 GOP primary, received nearly 1,000 more votes than the incumbent Tuesday night.
About two hours after Gonzales’ late-night announcement, Herrera declared victory in the Texas race.
“I appreciate Tony Gonzales for making the appropriate decision,” he wrote on X.
“I look forward to being the voice of TX23 that our district deserves. From the border, to oil theft, water rights, data centers, and many other issues. It’s an honor to be chosen and together we will make Texas proud.”
The House Ethics Committee is also investigating Gonzales over the claims that he “engaged in sexual misconduct” with a staffer and “discriminated unfairly” by “dispensing special favors or privileges.”
Santos-Aviles, a 35-year-old married mom of one, set herself on fire in the backyard of her Uvalde home on Sept. 13, 2025. She died the following day of the severe burns she suffered.
Her widower, Adrian Aviles, has charged that Gonzales “abused his power” by engaging in the affair with his subordinate.
