February 8, 2026 (EL FASHER) – More than 300 detainees have died in a prison in Sudan’s North Darfur state over the past two months due to deteriorating health conditions and a lack of medical care, a local group said on Sunday.
The Popular Resistance in North Darfur said in a statement that it documented the deaths at Shala prison in the state capital, El Fasher. The city has been under the control of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since Oct. 26.
The group said the RSF is holding more than 9,000 civilians at the facility, located southwest of the city. Many of those detained are civilians with serious injuries from shelling who have been denied medical treatment, leading to severe infections, the statement said.
The RSF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

[FoxNews] House Ways and Means Committee set to investigate alleged 'malign foreign influence' in US nonprofits in Tuesday hearing
Late last month, after the killing of local Minneapolis resident Alex Pretti by federal agents working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, MS NOW interviewed a protester identified as "Andrew" who said he flew in from Colorado to help drive the feds out of the city.
Hours later, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) framed the killing as a "murder," identified "Andrew" as "DSA National Political Committee member Andrew, @andrewized who "joined community members in Minneapolis today, to protest the murder of Alex Pretti. ‘We are going to beat the Trump administration.’"
Soon after, in a rhetorical stab at law enforcement officials, the local chapter organized a training on personal protective equipment to use against what "the pigs are using."
A week later, media outlets reported that "demonstrators" were protesting at a Target store in the Dinkytown neighborhood of Minneapolis, demanding the company stop supporting the alleged "campaign of terror that ICE is waging" against area residents and workers.
Soon enough, the official Instagram account of the local DSA chapter published a post, boasting about how its members "hosted an ICE Out of MN action that shut down the Target in Dinkytown!" On camera, Minneapolis City Council member Robin Wonsley proudly described herself as "minority leader of the Democratic Socialists caucus" and said openly she was "joining tons of socialists" to blast Target and ICE.
In Boston, as agitators compared ICE to Hitler's Gestapo, a demonstrator wearing a Democratic Socialists of America hat carried a sign depicting an eagle similar to the logo of the Nazis, only with "ICE" written on it.
Then, this weekend, as students skipped school in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the Los Angeles DSA chapter lauded how its adult members "stood in solidarity with" the students to "demand an end to ICE raids."
The messaging campaign against U.S. federal authorities isn’t coincidental, according to a scathing new report by the Network Contagion Research Institute, a research nonprofit based in Princeton, N.J. The report found the DSA's rhetoric matches the anti-U.S. propaganda of foreign adversaries. The finding is important as the organization amasses more political power in the U.S., with wins like longtime member Zohran Mamdani's election as mayor of New York City.
"The same rhetoric used to attack America abroad gets recycled at home to attack American law enforcement. Different stage, same script," said Adam Sohn, co-founder of the Network Contagion Research Institute, which has a staff of neuroscientists, computer engineers, data analysts, psychologists and open-source analysts doing deep analysis on "malicious narratives," threats and malign foreign influence.
"The language doesn’t stop overseas," Sohn said.
Sohn is scheduled to testify Tuesday at a 10 a.m. hearing before the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, titled, "Foreign Influence in American Non-profits: Unmasking Threats from Beijing and Beyond." The hearing will be broadcast online at the committee’s website. Democratic Socialists of America didn't respond to a request for comment.
The hearing is expected to examine a network of nonprofits, including organizations funded by Neville Roy Singham, an American-born tech tycoon and self-styled Marxist-Leninist, living in Shanghai. Singham has funded nonprofit groups, including the People’s Forum, CodePink, BreakThrough BT Media, the ANSWER Coalition and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, which have worked closely with Democratic Socialists of America in dispatching socialist, Marxist-Leninist and communist foot soldiers into the streets to disrupt federal immigration law enforcement agents and stoke chaos.
According to the Network Contagion Research Institute’s new report, "Democratic Socialists of America: Policy, Advocacy and Narrative Convergence with Hostile Foreign States," the organization has been engaging in a dynamic called "narrative convergence," advancing narratives that stoke domestic unrest and delegitimize state institutions while advancing talking points aligned with "hostile foreign governments."
One of the messages it regularly puts on posters equates the Trump administration to "fascism," declaring, "Socialism Beats Fascism."
Over months of reporting, Fox News Digital has documented how far-left socialist, Marxist and communist networks, aligned with foreign interests, have funded, organized and stage-managed street protests, using carefully coordinated messaging, social media amplification and nonprofit funding streams to allegedly launder ideological narratives into mainstream media coverage as if they are "grassroots" and "organic."
The DSA and allied groups, including the People’s Forum and other groups in the Singham network, have acted as logistical chiefs, field marshals, amplifiers and message disciplinarians, busing members to protests, creating digital tool kits and mass-producing pre-printed signs they hand out to demonstrators, shaping protest narratives for the cause célèbre of the day, according to reporting.
From Israel to Tesla, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), ICE, police, Venezuela or other headlines, researchers say these street protests and propaganda cast the U.S. as "terrorists," "genocide" enablers, the "Gestapo," "Nazi" and other smears that echo language used by anti-U.S. authoritarian regimes abroad to delegitimize the U.S. as "imperialist" "colonizers" that must be dismantled through a "resistance."
To assess whether this overlap was incidental, analysts at the Network Contagion Research Institute conducted a large-scale analysis of DSA communications using classifications based on "large language model."
The institute coded domestic anti-ICE activism and foreign-policy advocacy to assess "blame attribution," "legitimacy framing" and policy prescriptions, finding a "consistent pattern of blame convergence on U.S. institutions across all contexts."
It described it as evidence of a "shared narrative structure rather than issue-specific framing."
In its assessment, that convergence carries broader implications.
The report concludes that "the anti-ICE movement, much of it under DSA direction, serves as a domestic front in a global conflict between states," and that the organization promotes a narrative vision that "absolutely converges with the interests of Venezuela, Cuba and China."
The Network Contagion Research Institute emphasized that its findings don’t allege criminal wrongdoing but state that the pattern of conduct, narrative alignment and foreign engagement "warrants further scrutiny," particularly as protests continue, and congressional investigators investigate a phenomenon known as "malign foreign influence" operating inside the United States.
The Tuesday hearing will feature testimony from multiple experts focused on malign foreign influence and nonprofit transparency.
With a majority of the seats in the House of Representatives, Republican lawmakers have five witnesses: Sohn; Scott Walter, president of Capital Research Center; Caitlin Sutherland, executive director of Americans for Public Trust; and Bruce Dubinsky, founder of Dubinsky Consulting. Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, is scheduled to speak as a witness on behalf of Democratic lawmakers.
Illustrating its synchronicity with foreign adversaries questioning the legitimacy of the U.S. government, the DSA's local chapter in Minneapolis bragged in a new Facebook post on Sunday that "ICE’s legitimacy is dwindling" but cautioned "their terror continues."
It’s promoting a digital toolkit among members with pre-scripted messages, signs and "community letter" for another anti-ICE action on Feb. 11 against the "violent federal immigration enforcement surge" that has been "destabilizing communities, and is violating our freedom across the country."

[Combating Terrorism] Abstract: As early as the 1980s, the U.S. intelligence community documented the ways in which Iran deployed chemical weapons for tactical delivery on the battlefield. Nearly 40 years later, U.S. officials formally assessed that Iran was in non-compliance with its Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) obligations, pointing specifically to Tehran’s development of pharmaceutical-based agents (PBAs) that attack a person’s central nervous system as part of a chemical weapons program. Over time, concern about this program has increased, with reports to the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), statements by multilateral groups such as the G7, and a variety of U.S. government reports and sanctions. Today, with Iran’s proxies wreaking havoc throughout the region, officials worry Tehran may have already provided weaponized PBAs to several of its partners and proxies. Such a capability, tactically deployed on the battlefield, could enable further October 7-style cross-border raids or kidnapping operations. With the region on edge following the targeted killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, followed by an Israeli ground campaign targeting Hezbollah infrastructure along the border, and the Iranian ballistic missile attack on Israel, concern about the use of such tactical chemical weapons is high.
Since at least 2005, U.S. authorities contend, Iran has conducted extensive research and development of pharmaceutical-based chemical agents (PBAs), primarily anesthetics used to incapacitate victims by targeting the central nervous system, in violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.1 While Tehran contends its PBA program is allowed under an exception for developing crowd control tools for law enforcement, Iran has been called out—along with Russia and Syria—for developing these dual-use chemical agents by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).2 While the issue has received scant public attention, the U.S. State,3 Treasury,4 and Defense5 departments, as well as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence6 and the G7,7 have highlighted the issue and begun taking action against Iranian entities tied to this activity.
Iran’s weaponization of PBAs, however, is no longer just a matter of research and development. Beyond its R&D program, Iran now appears to have produced fentanyl-based or other types of weaponized PBAs and provided these to partners and proxy groups that may have already used them in several cases in Iraq and Syria.8 At home, Iranian journalists have investigated the poisoning of thousands of school-aged girls with some suspecting the symptoms displayed suggest the involvement of PBAs (some believe this was an Iranian government response to a protest movement, while the Iranian government claims it was an attack by unspecified ’enemies’).9 Now, after a year of near-daily rocket fire by Hezbollah into northern Israel, Israeli authorities fear Hezbollah may attempt an October 7-style cross border raid into Israel from Lebanon in which the group could use Iranian-manufactured PBAs to incapacitate and kidnap Israeli soldiers deployed along the border, and enable fighters to penetrate farther into Israel to attack civilian communities.10 In the post-October 7 security environment, U.S. officials have prioritized the issue of Iran’s weaponization of PBAs in their diplomatic engagement at multinational fora like the OPCW and in bilateral engagements with allies around the world. The stakes are now higher still after the targeted killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and the Israeli military maneuvers in southern Lebanon aimed at rooting out Hezbollah military infrastructure there.
This article briefly explains what pharmaceutical-based agents are, and explores the dangers posed by weaponized PBA’s as tactical battlefield weapons developed by Iran. Based on declassified CIA reports, the article explores the history of Iraq’s use of chemical weapons against Iran, Iran’s own development and deployment of chemical weapons, and concerns that Iran has provided weaponized PBAs to its partners and proxies. This led the United States to take a leading role calling out Iran’s weaponized PBA program, which became a more immediate national security concern for Israeli in particular in light of Lebanese Hezbollah’s ’Plan to Conquer the Galilee.’ This year, the U.S. intelligence community inserted a warning about Iran’s chemical weapons program, including incapacitating agents, in its 2024 annual threat assessment. All of which means far more multilateral and national-level actions are needed to counter Iran’s development of PBAs and its transfer of these dangerous agents to partners and proxies.
THE DANGER OF WEAPONIZED PBAS
According to the Government Accountability Office, PBAs are "chemicals based on pharmaceutical compounds, which may or may not have legitimate medical uses, and can cause severe illness or death when misused."11 PBAs present not only a national security concern, but can also have severe and even fatal health effects. These dual-purpose chemicals are often used for medical and veterinary purposes, but can also be weaponized for offensive goals.12 For example, the U.S. State Department has highlighted a case in which the chemistry department at Iran’s Imam Hossein University sought large quantities of medetomidine, a veterinary anesthetic drug with potent sedative effects, even though the department had little history of veterinary or other medical research. The university specifically researched the drug as an aerosolized incapacitant, and the quantities it sought (over 10,000 effective doses) were inconsistent with the reported research purposes.13

As far as I can tell, the entire Muslim Middle East was researching weaponizing biologicals and chemicals. One assumes they remain frustrated, mostly because nobody has done a mass attack with the stuff, though there was that situation probably with chlorine gas in Syria during the Arab Spring years, if I recall, where it eas unclear whether it was an Assad government action or a false flag thingy by one of the rebel groups trying to get the Assad government blamed. FRANCE
In addition to the extensive support detailed in the previous report from December 2025, France, over the years, has provided a critical qualitative edge to the LAF’s anti-tank capabilities, a specific contribution that complements broader American aid packages and addresses the army’s need for mobile direct fire. In November 2018, Paris transferred ten VAB Mephisto APCs to the Lebanese Army, platforms specializing in anti-tank warfare and equipped with launch turrets for HOT guided anti-tank missiles.
Together with the vehicles, the French government supplied 95 HOT missiles, granting the Lebanese Army a long-range mobile capability to strike armored targets or fortified positions at ranges of up to 4,000 meters.
This shipment included 2 simulators to train soldiers in operating the system.
This shipment was part of a broader effort to strengthen the LAF’s anti-tank array by France. In April 2015, the Lebanese Army received 48 Milan anti-tank missiles from France, funded by a Saudi grant intended to strengthen the country’s army against “non-state actors.”

In a sign of how fragile the situation remains, instead of permanently appointing the SDF-nominated governor of Hasakah, the Syrian government appears to have given him a “caretaker” role until the agreement’s implementation reaches more advanced stages.
Although Syrian internal security forces have visited Qamishli airport and are set to take it over, the main implementation of the agreement has not yet reached its critical points.
The SDF is set to redeploy from Hasakah and Qamishli to three allocated bases (mapped): two previously used by US-coalition forces and one former Assad-era Syrian army base. However, heavy weapons remain a point of dispute. The Syrian government is pushing for the SDF to be stripped of heavy weapons, while the SDF insists on keeping them, wanting to settle this matter only once the Hasakah division is formalized.
Meanwhile, US forces are quietly continuing to vacate bases in the region as more convoys enter the Kurdistan Region, where troops and equipment are being redeployed to Erbil. The US administration appears to prefer conducting the redeployment quietly so as not to trigger Congress, which has been unreceptive to leaving the region. Some reports suggest one US base might remain in the area, but given the chaotic developments, the final outlook remains unclear. The relocation of ISIS prisons continues, with some 3,000 prisoners believed to have been moved to Iraq, though the final number is believed to be over 7,000.
